Im sorry if this has already been discussed but i couldnt put into words really for a search criteria, im sure im not the only person with this problem.
When an SMS arrives a little green 1 will show by the "letter" on touchFLO 3d, sometimes when you scroll to read the message the little green 1 (or 2 or whatever) doesnt disappear and i have to keep clicking the mail icon, or go into the WM6 message inbox to change it from "New" to "Read".
I think it happens with the email part too, not just SMS.
Anyone know how to solve this, it's as annoying as thrush.
Sorry about my punctuation, i'm from Wales, hehe

Thrush !
It's annoyingly slow to register as read... there may be a registry tweak but a search revealed nothing yet
Thats a Shame I really thought someone else would have susses this with all the tweaks and tidbits.
I am having the same problem but with the email notification. Anyone have any ideas?
I have the same pb any suggestion?
Just try to click on the message and it will be open in the text mode and then close it.
I guess what the last post suggests doesn't work for the OP, at least it doesn't work for me. None of my messages are highlighted as 'unread', yet the 'unread SMS' notification at in TouchFlo doesn't disappear.
Anyone has any idea how to get rid of it ?
Thanks
Have the same problem with email...stuck at 2 even thouch all mails have been deleted or read.
Thanks

May I ask if deleting the account itself remove the erroneous counter?

Guys,
Check your Outlook inbox to make sure there is no unread mails there. The TF3D does not show the Outlook account but the counter in the mail tab does.
I solved my problem that way.

excellent, that worked. many thanks !
You're welcome, this place is a plethora of knowledge.
unfortunately it turns out the cab works only until i recieve a new message, after that the '1 unread message' notification appears again and stays even after i've read the new message.... so i'm back to where I started.
still thanks for the help. any other ideas ?
came across this bit of software but don't know whether it'll act any different from the cab.
Have you looked through every folder in the account-tree yet? Make sure they're all being synchronised as some Imap\webmail accounts can act funny (Inbox\Menu\Tools\Manage folders).
But perhaps the only thing left is to backup and hard reset (without backing up the mailfolders of course)? And otherwise it means executing the cab every time it happens again..
Anybody have this happen to them all the time?
When I exit a mesage, the message list will usually freeze for maybe 3-5 minutes
Very annoying.
Fix anywhere?
Anyone?
Can't say I've had this problem, sorrry.

yeah, that happens to me too--my best guess root-cause is that it's due to the fact that I have TONS of text messages that I've been keeping over the years.
I always notice that it's worse right after I've flashed my phone and restored my data. I think this is because it's re-threading my messages.
I don't have any fixes or work-arounds, but perhaps my theory might inspire one!

Yes, annoying. I delete the thread of messages I have with someone that I notice takes a while to close and then it's speedy again. This is a frustrating solution because you can't keep much of a history, but at least it speeds thigns up a bit.
I have the same problem, though it doesn't last for 3-5 minutes, thankfully. According to my MyPhone page, I have 1174 messages. This doesn't sound like very many to me.
I notice in Task Manager that SMS takes over 2 MB. Maybe this is part of the reason for the sluggishness?
Another (minor) annoyance is that, in the Windows SMS app (I don't use Touch Flow), when I tap "reply" to a text, the program will take time to thread the messages from that sender and then load the SIP (I use Swype currently). Next, the SIP goes away and I'm left with the cursor at the bottom of the screen in a blank area for my reply. I have to reactivate the SIP and wait for the screen to redraw again before I can begin typing. Seems like weird behavior.
I had this issue and identified it to the threader feature in 6.5 when you have large amounts of messages, just disable threader feature under settings menu and issue will go away..

or you can just use MyPhone to archive some messages... again, when you add or subtract a large amount of data from your sms database, your phone will take some time to re-thread all your messages.
Eventually, when all the messages are threaded, you won't experience the slow-down.
I think this is LESS about WinMo, and MORE due to the fact that we really, really need Snapdragon processors
Newest ROM fixes this problem. At least thus far! Yay.

What newest ROM are you referring to???
Well, the "new" rom from VZW. It's now official from VZW. http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=136&cid=1&mid=364&carrier=Verizon Wireless
has anyone tried this "new" rom from VZW?
Hi all,
I've just got my HD2 this morning. I'm having a problem when trying to create an SMS by replying from the text messages tab.
This particular contact has around 500 messages and pressing 'reply' takes more than 20 seconds before even the onscreen keyboard to load for me to type the reply. I've tried other contacts with less messages, whilst it is quick, there is still a noticeable lag to load all of the previous messages.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Yes. The contacts/text messaging app seems to suffer from a lot of slowdown. I also have the feeling it's linked to the number of messages for each contact.
Saving a contact after editing can be slow as well.
I did a bit of a search...looks like this is a problem with the HTC messaging app in Manila 2.5 ..... sigh........ such a fundamental problem!
Too many people complain about SMS issues. SMS functionality should be one of the very first tests you do to a modern mobile device during Q.A.
At least its still good to know that I'll be able to speak with it.
Same here. Too slow..
Here the same problem. Can somebody make a fix for it please?
Delete all the SMS history with the contact who is taking long for the keyboard to load up.
The reason for this slowdown is that it is loading all your SMS messages with that contact, both sent and received. Hence it takes ages to load up.
1. Go to the SMS screen for your slow-loading contact, wait for it to load
2. Press 'Menu'
3. Press 'Delete Messages'
4. Press 'Menu'
5. Press 'Select All'
6. Press 'Done'
Where is the snapdragon?
man I need to get this Phone, but this seems to be the first real let down ,I use lots of SMS and to me deleting is not an option.
Must be found a work around.
HTC definately rushed this ROM.
The calendar bug, the spelling mistake in the connections settings, apparently the speed is slower than the test ROMs, and now this.
Well the only thing that lags with Touch HD on wm6.5 with Manila 2.5 is the HTC SMS.. That what made be believe I should upgrade my device to HD2. Now that I see that the device is also lagging with a dozen of SMSs... Thanks but I will not buy it unless a solution is found. I have more than 2500 work SMS all business related and I CANT FIND A REASON TO DELETE IT.
DIDNT THEY TRY THE DEVICE BEFORE SELLING IT??
EVEN A NOKIA 3310 CAN STORE 500+ SMS !!
Yes a nokia can store that many text, but they arent in a chat type session, thats why it takes so long because it loads all of them in one hit.

Even with Thread mode off and normal SMS display, it is very slow. Try restoring 200 SMS, it will takes 10 mins. Re-access your SMS menu, you will still lag as hell.
Cannot forgive them for making such a mistake.
was going to get it today
My non HTC device loaded with + 250 messages opens the SMS app.in 2 sec. Replying and bringing up the keyboard is almost from instantaneous to 1 sec,but I need to get a WM phone.
Just one question though:
Will this lag still happen if you Disable the HTC Sence UI and went with the WM 6.5 interface?
I've found a workaround for now..
Use the HTC Messaging app in traditional mode. From there, you could reply SMSes using the non-threaded mode. Once it loads, it's pretty quick to open again.
Still..the major lag is still there when you open a contact with many text messages....this is very dissapointing and could even be a dealbreaker for a few people.
Even my TD1 with Manila 2.1 doesn't have this problem.

NO! the problem it's just in senseUI
In the meantime, let your providers and htc know (mail). htc need to release a proper fix for this.
Manila 2.1 on my TP2 did`t have this problem at all.
To be honest .... 2.5 Manila messaging is crap!
I know this isn't an ideal solution, but it'll do for me (for now), and I'm sure some others will be happy enough with it as a temporary fix.
Use Microsoft MyPhone to get all your texts uploaded and then archive them using the web interface. You can then delete as many as you like off the phone and still be happy that you've got a backup online.
Not a solution, but a reasonable workround for now.
Edit: I can confirm that this works. I went to the MyPhone web interface and archived all my text messages. Then I synched from my mobile and it deleted all the local texts that I had archived (in this case, all of them). I can now edit and select contacts with only a slight lag. It's still a crap amount of lag for such a fast phone, but it's a lot better.
They should do like on the iPhone: when you chat with a contact, you get the last 10-15 messages of the thread. If you want to read older messages you press a button on top of the thread that will then show all the others.
+1!! I do think too that it's the obvious solution!!!! Why the hello do HTC's SMS apps display the full thread of SMS's on their app, it's pretty much useless, and causes lags!!! The last 10 sms's like in Outlokk or on the iPhone is enough!
I don't know what the hell HTC's devs are thinking sometimes....
In my HTC threaded messaging, the display is not in order such that all SMS sent by me is displayed at the top while messages of my recipient's are displayed below, regardless of the order they are sent, that isn't threaded messaging isn't it. Have any of you faced this problem? And how can i go about solving it? I just purchased my LEO today and it's running on 1.66 by default.
Another problem which have already been mentioned by other threads i faced is the shaking screen problem when trying to select text in htc messages or cropping of images, this is especially annoying as it prevents me from copying and selecting text accurately.
I'd appreciate all the help i can get since i am relatively new to the community. Thanks guys!
Search timestamp fix...has worked for me so far.

Thanks
Hey! Thanks so much for you response. Will install the cab and see how it goes!
Thanks thanks!!
Failing that, assuming all your messages are from a backed up PIM?
1)Backup messages.
2)Disable threaded SMS
3)Delete all messages
4)Close / kill the messaging app
5)Restore messages
6)Enable threaded SMS and wait (maybe a long time depending on how many messages) while it re-threads them for you.
nope, my messages were all 'new' messages meaning they were sent and received on while using the phone after unboxing. i didn't store any backup messages on it. But it's working alright so far, but the screen is pretty annoying as i'm making plenty of typo errors, either i type "too fast" (which is slow in my opinion) and then it somehow register other key presses or not even registering any. I've already installed the cab V3.3 for reduced sensitivity and it doesn't seem to be working?
messaging problem still need help
hey guys, the whole display and layout of my threaded messaging is still screwed. it makes things really inconvenient and i have to do alot of scrolling when i have a considerably large amount of history of texts. i need help and the timestamp cab didn't work. is there a registry fix for this? the reason why my messages are sometimes positioned below my recipient i suspect is the difference in time. i believe it is due to either mine is faster or slower and that determines the position of the messages. isn't it supposed to be all according to my phone's time? i am puzzled and dismayed that a core function of the phone is screwed up.
pls help me with this guys. thanks so much.
I'm sure I'm not the only one having this issue and just wanted to know you thoughts...
My SMS threads with 400+ are really starting to take a while to open, one of my threads with 600+ takes over 8 seconds before it shows up after I select it (just shows the loading message) and then another 3 - 6 seconds before I can click on the message to reply... Other than deleting the thread, does anyone else know how to resolve this? I find it hard to believe that a 1GHz processor can't handle a thread of 600 messages...
By the way, I have HTX Sense turnes off, I'm running a stock HTC non animated background, only 3 widgets that don't do much, and nothing running in the background (by using Advanced Task Killer @ Fast Reboot).
Thanks You'all for your help!
Rob
Try Handcent SMS, it is almost never slow for me, I have over 2000 messages between me and my wife.

I just want to say thanks- I've used this program before, but never noticed its superiority until now... it really is much faster and better in every way- now I just gotta figure out how to remove the stock SMS notification so I'm not clearing two notifications for each SMS...
Thanks Again,
Rob

Just open the stock messaging app, hit menu, settings, disable notifications.
Don't take this wrong - but why would you need/want/desire to keep 2000 text messages. Are you in a legal battle and need to document everything?
Keeping messages can come in handy, but I prefer to clear out occasionally, so I use SMSBackup (free app) and it copies all my messages to a folder in my GMail account, so I can still search them if I need to get a hold of something in the history. Not to mention the added plus of looking through my messages from a desktop when I want to find a number or address..
