I have been looking, and thus far unsuccessful , for software that allows me to specify certain ringtones or alarms for SMS / text messages from certain senders. Does anyone know of any such software or way to do this? Any info on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Found it. MortRing. Works VERY well!

is it possible to lock the SMS inbox to prevent unauthorised access at all?
Thoughts and solutions as always welcome.
Thanks
Pete
suppose it could be possible with 3th party software
but why not just put a password on the whole pda ?
it's already supported and would protect your data much more
should anybody steal the pda
hear hear
password protecting the Inbox would be very useful - and other folders for that matter.
The scenario in my case is not resolved by password protecting the whole PDA since you may wish to give someone access to the PDA - to play a game for instance. If there is no way of protecting your data beyond that then there's nothing stopping them having a nose around or doing damage (accidental or mallicous) whilst 'playing'.
I'd be interested to hear more on this. I'll have a look for 3rd party stuff in the meantime.

This is a must have 3rd party tools but still have some bug and errors
getting it to work
this is brilliant!! ...but it doesn't work.
Has anyone been able to get this program working?
I've installed the two files into: \Windows on my phone
I then run the .exe file and the program starts. I've been able to set up a password.
I've set up a new Category for contacts: Hide
and set the contact's category (whose messages are to be hidden) to: Hide
I then go to SMSHide 1.0 and select "Hide Messages" from the Messages menu and a msgbox reports that "0 messages hided succussfully".
For what it's worth, a test to see if any of my messages have been protected goes to show that they haven't. No password is required, the messages can just be accessed as normal.
Also when I turn Autohide ON, the program interface becomes inaccesible - it just shows "SMSHide v.10 " in the title bar.
You kind of worry that, being this buggy, it'll go and lock all your messages and they'll be locked out for good!!
Pity cos we really need something like this.
anyway I've posted these comments to the developer and wait on them or anyone else here who's had success getting back to me.
me either.. its not working.
Hope somebody out there who can help our predicament. this is a very important utility and I know most of PDA users are needing this. In this way we can share our PDA to our friends without fear of letting them snoop in our small secrets...
possible solution
hi there:
have you seen the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23057
somebody else started it up and I found at least one answer to the problems I mentioned. have a look
You guys must be doing some serious adultry!!! I just have another fone for the ladies! Seriously, finding sms messages from other women seems to be no 1 reason for relationship breakdown these days!
I'd like a whole seperate hidden area of files and sms on my xda, away from prying eyes?
that site was already posted. I tried it and it seems to work. The problem is, if you happen not to hear the message tone, you will not know that you have a message so you have to hide and unhide all the time for checking. You also have to set all your contacts to private and hide category.
Maybe in the future, there will be a new software that will just hide the whole things easily.
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the board and I have been searching for an answer to a problem with WM5 that I cannot find. We use our devices, I-Mate JasJar's and I-Mate K-Jam's, to receive Pushed email, Text messages, phone calls...etc.
One of the main featues that I need, although small, is to be able to set WM5 notifications for new text messages or emails to repeat. The setting is subdued, whereas some other notifications give you the option to repeat the alert. I feel like this should be up to the user to decide whether to use it or not...no microsoft...:x
Anyway, is this a possible registry hack or an update that i don't know about?
Thanks for any help you may be able to give.
this is killing me
I have tried everything I can think of...i downloaded a registry editor and modified the registry under notifications under HKCU...i was able to make the "Repeat" function available for use for a NEw Text Message...but it wouldn't repeat...nothing i did would make it repeat...this sux..
Anybody have any ideas yet....thanks...
Yes! It's crazy that you can't set notifications to repeat and "bug" you! My wife's Motorola V3 RAZR phone does this for every text message / voice mail. Very annoying - but also very useful!
PocketMax "phoneAlarm does exactly what you want. An official version for WM5 is not quite ready, but there is a beta version which seems to work, hidden away in the support forums:
http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?board=22.0
Hope this helps!
Hi People!
I simply don't know what to do. Somehow, my SMS sound disappeared -- too, there is no blinking, no vibration, nothing. can please somebody help me and somehow tell me where the error could be. it's set right in the alerts dialog, when i do a preview there, it works. but a new sms seems not to launch the alert. i remember fiddling around with the regkeys that manage the messaging accounts - maybe there is a naming error?
any help is greatly appreciated...
thanks a lot,
keep posting

Try to go through:
Start - Settings - Sounds and Notifications and then set the sound/vibartion as you like.
thanks, but ..
.. i already tried that, like a hundred times ..
the problem seems to lie elsewhere, as for example in the SMS account name.. fiddling around there may have caused this problem..
BUT i am planning doing a rom upgrade, so the problem will be gone, i think..
btw, is there a generic (HTC, german) ROM version that includes the internal gps-chip? my version: 1.16.407.2 and external rom: 1.16.407.101
Solution found on www.pocketpctweaks.com
as i pointed out the problem started after tweaking my messaging accounts. i now restored them (from a backup i intelligently did) and my sms sound is here again. the "ActiveSync" and "Hotmail" Accounts need to be there in order to have a sms notification ......
\\HKLM\\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\
this is _not_ what i call good programming ..
I originally posted this in the Hermes section but I now realize it should have been posted here. Please excuse the crosspost though.
Our Blackberry's have a way called "Level 1 Messages" to react differently to incoming emails based upon Sender and/or Subject text. This can include playing a different notification alarm and/or vibrating.
I'm trying to implement the same functionality into our new Cingular 8525 devices (WM5) and I'm not having much luck.
I've tried working with the POOM (Pocket Outlook Object Model) and it seems that doesn't cover incoming emails.
I then tried looking into MAPI and it seems that Messaging related issues only deal with SMS messages. We receive our Exchange email via Activesync over OWA (I think) and so that leaves MAPI out.
I am both amazed that this is that difficult and amazed that there aren't 500 questions related to this already here as I thought this would be a VERY common need.
If I can't figure this out, we'll have to go back to Blackberry and that's not what I want to do.
I looked at the software phoneAlarm and it supposedly has this functionality but it is very unstable and we could never get the Custom Email alerts working.
TIA - any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
Yes, I searched first and followed all those goose chases but I still have not found a working solution.
I'm interested in such an app as well and have been unable to find one. I'm reviving this thread in case something new has developed.
Phonealarm provides such functionality, as well as an application from Quore fucntions called "inboxtones". Google it
Hi,
I'm searching for a piece of free or paid software, which can make some of my SMS private, but still will be fully integrated into WM Outlook. It should work with threaded SMS model, known from WM6.1 and should be able to suppress new SMS notifications for selected contacts. Also ability of importing SMS threads from common inbox will be great.
Do you know about anything that can help me and also others with the same problem? Please, tell us ,-)
Thanks in advance for replies
there is a program called Ez Secret SMS by CelSoft that has privacy features for sms... like password protect sms inbox, etc.. i think it's commercial though... search around and it's on the net for free as with anything else.
thanks for reply,
EZ Secret SMS is not the thing i'm looking for.
Its integration into pocket outlook is - none. It uses separate "mailbox", program itself acts like calculator for users that don't know about it. It cannot handle threaded sms and you cannot use strong passwords, just numbers (!). There's no information about strength of internal database encryption mechanisms. It's a kind of "security through obscurity", not a real security product...
but again, thanks at least for an idea ,-)
