Changing WM5 notification settings - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hello Everyone,
I am new to the board and I have been searching for an answer to a problem with WM5 that I cannot find. We use our devices, I-Mate JasJar's and I-Mate K-Jam's, to receive Pushed email, Text messages, phone calls...etc.
One of the main featues that I need, although small, is to be able to set WM5 notifications for new text messages or emails to repeat. The setting is subdued, whereas some other notifications give you the option to repeat the alert. I feel like this should be up to the user to decide whether to use it or not...no microsoft...:x
Anyway, is this a possible registry hack or an update that i don't know about?
Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

this is killing me
I have tried everything I can think of...i downloaded a registry editor and modified the registry under notifications under HKCU...i was able to make the "Repeat" function available for use for a NEw Text Message...but it wouldn't repeat...nothing i did would make it repeat...this sux..
Anybody have any ideas yet....thanks...

Yes! It's crazy that you can't set notifications to repeat and "bug" you! My wife's Motorola V3 RAZR phone does this for every text message / voice mail. Very annoying - but also very useful!
PocketMax "phoneAlarm does exactly what you want. An official version for WM5 is not quite ready, but there is a beta version which seems to work, hidden away in the support forums:
http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?board=22.0
Hope this helps!

Custom Email notifications - possible?

Our Blackberry's have a way called "Level 1 Messages" to react differently to incoming emails based upon Sender and/or Subject text. This can include playing a different notification alarm and/or vibrating.
I'm trying to implement the same functionality into our new Cingular 8525 devices (WM5) and I'm not having much luck.
I've tried working with the POOM (Pocket Outlook Object Model) and it seems that doesn't cover incoming emails.
I then tried looking into MAPI and it seems that Messaging related issues only deal with SMS messages. We receive our Exchange email via Activesync over OWA (I think) and so that leaves MAPI out.
I am both amazed that this is that difficult and amazed that there aren't 500 questions related to this already here as I thought this would be a VERY common need.
If I can't figure this out, we'll have to go back to Blackberry and that's not what I want to do.
I looked at the software phoneAlarm and it supposedly has this functionality but it is very unstable and we could never get the Custom Email alerts working.
TIA - any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
Yes, I searched first and followed all those goose chases but I still have not found a working solution.
try the new phonealarm from pocketmax.net. it offers custom email and smsalarms by sender or content

Well, as I stated in my post:

I actually got the Custom Email alerts working. The problem I was having is that his "Contains" process only works if the searched for word is bounded by spaces... which is a very poor method. For example, we have an established procedure at our work for proceeding all mission critical messages with the word "critical -" and then the subject. But, since that first word isn't proceeded by a space, he doesn't trigger on that. I would have to get my work to agree to change to " critical -" (note the all important proceeding space).
That's just stupid, IMO.
And until he fleshes out his program a bit more, I'm going to have to find an alternative.

Custom Email Notifications?

I originally posted this in the Hermes section but I now realize it should have been posted here. Please excuse the crosspost though.

I'm interested in such an app as well and have been unable to find one. I'm reviving this thread in case something new has developed.
Phonealarm provides such functionality, as well as an application from Quore fucntions called "inboxtones". Google it

O2 SMS Plus & HTC Home Plugin

After searching the forums I am unable to find an answer to this one.
How do I set HTC Home middle button (SMS) to open O2 SMS Plus instead of tmail when I press it. I searched the registry and came up dry and there is no setting I see in HHC. Actually if there is a way to set O2 SMS Plus as the default SMS/MMS application for the entire BA I would prefer that. I use Gmail for email and that requires tmail so I was afraid to change it in HKLM/software/microsoft/shell/rai/MSINBOX as I presumed I would lose access to Gmail.
Thanks in advance to all who answer.
Nobody knows
Well 2 days and 118 views with no responses pretty much implies that either I was not very clear or nobody has an answer.
In case I was unclear I am looking for a way to make O2 SMS Plus the default sms reader/composer instead of the MS one (tmail). But I must still use tmail for regular email such as Gmail.
Thanks again. Even if nobody knows this I have gleaned so much information from this forum/wiki that it won't hurt my feelings any.
You've probably had this answered long ago, but I thought I'd write in for anyone else who finds this thread.
The way to edit which program gets called through HTC Home is to edit the file HTCHome.dll with a hex editor, and then re-signing the dll. Unfortunately, HTCHome.dll only uses one reference to tmail.exe for both SMS and email, so if you change one it changes both of them. So the above isn't possible, I believe...

Repeat notification sound- HTC Pure

How to enable "play sound/repeat" in Sound & Notifications audio settings?
If I missed a notification (email or reminder) I'd like to hear a beep or other sound at selected intervals.
Thanks,
Andy
SMS Notification repeat
Since we are noobs and not real, I thought I might share my searching results. First the search only returns results with "sms repeat", and not much with the Topaz. I had the same problem with my old Kaiser, and there was a great little program on Modaco (http://www.modaco.com/downloads-file2400.html) that I think was more about led notification but worked for my need to get repeat SMS notification. (I am a network engineer that is on call a lot)
I did a bunch of registry hacks on the Kaiser but nothing that worked very well and ended up using Phils program above, but not on my Topaz yet. It is still stock ATT rom.
I did find references to 3 other programs:
MissedCallReminder
PhoneAlarm
spb phone suite
The Phone Alarm (http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html) has a couple of varients, and looks like it might be easy to install, and has a small footprint piece called AlarmPal that has a feature of turning on and off bluetooth that might be helpful if battery life is an issue.
Phone Alarm supposedly works on 6.5. AlarmPal looks like just 6.1 and below, but there are posts about Diamond with a WM 6.5 ROM.(less than $12.00US)
Missed Call Reminder is from here (xda-developers) and looks like one of the moderators might be using it but the post is from Nov, 2008. He has updated it and the files in the cab are from April of 2009. It uses 236K of memory. Not sure if that is alot or little.
I do not have time today to try these out, but should have a little time later in the week.
I too would like this feature enabled. There has got to be reg tweak that will enable the "repeat" box to be checked under sounds & notifications. I will search around as well.
I found this in another forum so I will post it here too. It is over a year old post so I'm not sure if it works yet but I will try it out and post my findings if you all want to wait for confirmation if it works or not on WM6.5. Thanks to Jackalz for this find (http://forums.techarena.in/tips-tweaks/992968.htm).
In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications
There is a lot of registry sub-key inside the Notifications folder. Search through one by one to find and locate a registry entry that has its Default (REG_SZ) value as the name of the event. For example, Messaging: New e-mail message, Messaging: New text message, Messaging: New MMS message, Phone: Missed call and etc.
Once found the correct registry sub-key that represents the event that you want to enable the “Repeat” option, edit the value data for Options value name. Change the value to 1073741835 (in Decimal base) or 4000000B (in Hexadecimal HEX base format). Save and exit from registry editor.
Now the Repeat check box is enabled, and user should be able to set repetitive and recurring event notifications.
EDIT: I have just verified that these registry settings worked. I was able to enable the repeat option for New emails, new text and new mms message. CHEERS!
Edited post: I did the above registry tweak and as in the kaiser, It would not stop repeating after reading the sms. I deselected the repeat option and set the registry key back to 0000000b. back happy again..
Old post:
I will try that one.. On the old Kaiser, it would repeat, but unable to turn it off. It kept repeating, no matter what I did to turn it off.. Thanks,
Jack
SMS repeat notification
AlarmPal worked... and even quit "reminding" me after I turned it off..
SMS repeat notification program testing results
Missed Call Reminder: looks like low footprint but repeated Voicemail notification even when I did not have voice or voicemail notification on. Only way to turn off the voicemail notification was to actually listen to the voicemail, just acknowledging it would not turn off the alert. Also after opening it up once, have to reboot the phone to get back into the configuration. Not a problem if I was able to turn off the voicemail alerts.
Alarm Pal worked as advertised but memory usage climbed from 72% to 82% in 14hrs. Will reinstall and continue monitoring.

ah, maybe that's why they disabled it in the first place. haven't experienced that issue with email's or text messages on mine.
Repeat Notification SMS
Have been using Alarm Pal for a few weeks, and it works quite well. I still have the memory usage pump up to above 80% pretty quickly (8-16hrs) but I am a real heavy user of both email, text, alarms and phone. Any others using something different with a smaller memory footprint?

I used MSentinel, you could try that! (after installing you should check the settings - mine checked the status every 1s and drained the battery very fast)

On my Typhoon I used an modified version of MortScript-based reminder - it does not stay in memory, uses wm-s notifications system and executes itself after given time (made also a full hour bell from it ). Its even possible to create a custom scheduled task with it - for example run pim backup every saturday night.. The original script came with a rom from xda-dev. - dont remember the name of it

Text Message Tones

Hi there, anyone know of a program that works on HD2 that allows you to assign different sms tones to different ppl? Did have Text Message Secatary from openmarket, and was working, but since I updated to new T-Mobile (UK) Stock rom, it not longer does, despite what rules i apply. Found PhotoContacts Pro but this seems abit overkill for what I want, Sure others want this as well, and despite contacting the author of Text Message Secatary, had no help from him. Also tried Justtones but that didn't work! Any help would be magic!
take a SD card... insert it and make a folder called "audio"--> open it and then make three new folders, called "alarms" "notifications" and "ringtones" then you copy the new sms tone to the notifications folder.
cheers, stephan1
edit:
ok... this is not what mobile secretary is doing... I´m sorry
sms tones
wrong post my badd
re tones
I know where to store the tones, think you misunderstand the point, I actually want to have a different sms tone for different ppl, i.e 1 for wife, 1 for work, 1 for best mate, so just by hearing the tone i would know who the sms is from. As i said Text message secatary used to work, til i updated the stock rom, but now doesn't.
Any more Idea's?
people>all people>(pick person)>edit contact>(scroll down)ringtone is this what yuo were looking for?
Only commercial software can achieve that. Don't recall seeing any freeware capable of that.
Photo Contacts Pro

the above statement is true fully though those programs just Change registry keys to achieve that
