is it possible to lock the SMS inbox to prevent unauthorised access at all?
Thoughts and solutions as always welcome.
Thanks
Pete
suppose it could be possible with 3th party software
but why not just put a password on the whole pda ?
it's already supported and would protect your data much more
should anybody steal the pda
hear hear
password protecting the Inbox would be very useful - and other folders for that matter.
The scenario in my case is not resolved by password protecting the whole PDA since you may wish to give someone access to the PDA - to play a game for instance. If there is no way of protecting your data beyond that then there's nothing stopping them having a nose around or doing damage (accidental or mallicous) whilst 'playing'.
I'd be interested to hear more on this. I'll have a look for 3rd party stuff in the meantime.

This is a must have 3rd party tools but still have some bug and errors
getting it to work
this is brilliant!! ...but it doesn't work.
Has anyone been able to get this program working?
I've installed the two files into: \Windows on my phone
I then run the .exe file and the program starts. I've been able to set up a password.
I've set up a new Category for contacts: Hide
and set the contact's category (whose messages are to be hidden) to: Hide
I then go to SMSHide 1.0 and select "Hide Messages" from the Messages menu and a msgbox reports that "0 messages hided succussfully".
For what it's worth, a test to see if any of my messages have been protected goes to show that they haven't. No password is required, the messages can just be accessed as normal.
Also when I turn Autohide ON, the program interface becomes inaccesible - it just shows "SMSHide v.10 " in the title bar.
You kind of worry that, being this buggy, it'll go and lock all your messages and they'll be locked out for good!!
Pity cos we really need something like this.
anyway I've posted these comments to the developer and wait on them or anyone else here who's had success getting back to me.
me either.. its not working.
Hope somebody out there who can help our predicament. this is a very important utility and I know most of PDA users are needing this. In this way we can share our PDA to our friends without fear of letting them snoop in our small secrets...
possible solution
hi there:
have you seen the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23057
somebody else started it up and I found at least one answer to the problems I mentioned. have a look
You guys must be doing some serious adultry!!! I just have another fone for the ladies! Seriously, finding sms messages from other women seems to be no 1 reason for relationship breakdown these days!
I'd like a whole seperate hidden area of files and sms on my xda, away from prying eyes?
that site was already posted. I tried it and it seems to work. The problem is, if you happen not to hear the message tone, you will not know that you have a message so you have to hide and unhide all the time for checking. You also have to set all your contacts to private and hide category.
Maybe in the future, there will be a new software that will just hide the whole things easily.

I don't think I'm the only one here experiencing this, so thought I would put it out there, to see who else feels this way..
If you receive 3 sms message from a friend, while you have the sms window open, you still have to click on each individual message to mark it as read. Is there a way around this, rather than having to tap each individual message (which can get rather tedious when you have 6 or 7 messages from various recipients) you could just click on each recipient and have all the previous message from that person, be automatically marked as read?
Perhaps a hotfix type of thing..?
Yea I also get this... but can happen even if I get 1 message and I read it... still shows as its been unread... can be very annoying!
true true... I wonder if there is a fix for this?
And annoying is in threaded mode it hard to click the individual messages as read, also hard to go back and delete the half of the thread from yesterday and day before
we need more people to feel the same way, then find someone with the skills to make us happy, then we can torture them to fix it till we smile!!
old post but has there been a hotfix for this yet?
MOD EDIT
Moved to general discussion as not related to Themes, Applications and Software
There's this:

Works for me
Is there a possible regedit, which could allow us to delete emails in the preview mode (the same way we can delete, forward, or reply in the preview mode of SMS text messages)? It would be nice if we didn't have to open every single email in order to delete it. Anyone have a workaround for eliminating this extra step? Thanks if you've got one to share.
I would also like to know this. A way of marking an email as read from the preview would be helpful too.
Thirded.
This would be awesome.
Yeah! I would also like this.
Been asked before, but yes I would like this too!! Having to open an email to have it marked as read is annoying when you have quite a few that you dont actually need to read in detail there and then!!
I'm interested also
Still no clue ?
Anything on this yet ?
I'm sure we all want to have the option of looking at our emails in full HTML format by default on our HD2's. Does anyone know how to configure this option. A registry tweak would be nice.
Using the following route for GMAIL you can change your account settings to show 'The Entire Message' and download 'All attachments' by default by still doesn't give the solution we need.
Instructions :-
Go to the Inbox of any account
-> click on the menu key (right soft)
-> on the pop-up menu, select Tools>Options...
-> choose an account to edit
We need an expert on the case! Please.......................
Would it explain why accents don't display ?
Basically, I had an iPhone before and when I received an email, the entire message was downloaded. Pictures & text etc. and you were able to scroll about the entire message without any issues or having to do anything else to gain access to the rest of the email.
On the HD2, I have managed to get the majority of the message downloaded but still not "internet Pictures" are allowed to be downloaded and you have to push another option to scroll right if the email is quite large.
I know that Safari is a different program and not affected by malware and such like but I would like something similar on the HD2.
Are there any tweaks or CABs to fix this???
Thanks
I have been looking for a fix for this since I got my HD2 but it seems that there is no fix.
This is the main thing that is anoying me about this phone (Even more than the sms issue) I cant belive there is not 1 person on here that can hack this and let us download everything by default.
Anyway there is a HUGE donation for anyone who can do this!!
Regards,
Adam Rees
Someone else RAGING about the same things I am!
I think hell just froze over. The 1.6x ROM was pretty good in comparison to the 1.48 ROM. When that is officially been released then texting will be better.
BsB tweaks 1.6 will solve the texting issue till then. It has for me (for the most part).

Yup this annoyed me on the Touch HD also. There must be a registry setting somewhere that will enable the automatic download of pictures for html messages by default. Although this would mean spammers could potentially validate your email if the spam hits your inbox.

Are you serious?
Last year Safari was the second most-vulnerable browser (after FireFox), and most of those vulnerabilities targeted the iPhone version.
Someone please help! Having read the very little amount of content I can find so far, I am extremely concerned that somehow some or all of my text messages are being relayed to an email account via the Service (SmsRelayService) that is running under the app Exchange Services.
I don't seem to be able to find anything conclusive, but what I have found is that it is likely to be relaying text messages to an Exchange Account?
I can stop the Service and it stays 'stopped' until a text message is received and it starts running again.
Now have a Note 4, having upgraded because my last handset appeared to have been tampered with and was also behaving in this manner, as well as my Google Location History recording me in places that I never was. On that handset there were even more questionable apps running, one of which appeared to be some form of spyware when searched in Google!
Is there any way that you can dig deep into the operating system of the device and see what is going on?
Is there any way of identifying is my suspicions and those of others that I have seen post similar stories are correct?
One of the reasons I started to question it initially and then look into it was because I was receiving overly descriptive and some unnecessary text messages from someone and at the same time, another device nearby was demonstrating email notification sounds!
Not only that, but certain things that I had not discussed with certain people, but had discussed over text with others (in no way related or connected) were being brought up!
Help please.... is SmsRelayService under the app Exchange Services something to be worried about?????
I was also shocked by the lack of information on this "SmsRelayService" There are tunz of questions out there about it.
After much research and messing with my phone I feel the service is stock BUT can be hijacked by some unknown application to send all texts to a 3rd party. My x was getting my text messages somehow. In her email account i found she had set up a service on her own phone first to test and she would receive every text on the phone and also location. I assume she set it up on her own phone first to figure it out then she put it on my phone. I have a rooted phone with a custom rom. strangely the SmsRelayService had permission for EVERYTHING on my phone. From sms to photos and every single admin right possible. I doubt this is normal for that service. my custom Rom has a "App ops" menu that shows what the service has used or not. In my case it looks like she was only accessing my sms messages. Killing the service did not help as when a new text came in it started back up and accessed the new messages. Once i removed all the permissions for "SmsRelayService" in the "App ops" menu i no longer had the problem of the service accessing the texts. Without this menu option i don’t know how i would have stopped it. I'd assume there is an app or process killer out there that would have been able to shut it down but it'd take someone else with a normal rom to let us know.
in my case I’m lucky it was only sms's. It looks as though whatever she put on my phone was only getting sms's. the app having access to all rights on the phone a better or more in depth spy app/program could have accessed much more. Only spying my sms activity i did not notice ANY extra battery drain. Also this app is known with Microsoft exchange and that messes up a lot of the research. I have never setup any other account but a gmail account so without a link there i don’t know why else it'd been activated in the first place if not for a spy app. I'll try and post back in a few weeks after i'v been able to see if she suddenly doesn’t have information that she shouldn’t know.
I send out the same text to a group of people quite often and I get a message saying messenger is sending a large amount of messages do you want to allow this? I have to click on it for each message that goes out. Is there any possible way to change the limit? I know you used to be able to set it to anything you want in settings/security but it's not there anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated...this is so annoying.
Have you tried GoSMS Pro?
Maybe I've never sent to as many as you, but I've never encountered that warning or behavior. I've used GoSMS for several years.
I've only seen this when I send many messages in quick succession (either with Google Messenger or something like Tasker). There should be a checkbox that says to always allow.
I'm also looking for a solution. I was using ResurrectionRemix (a CM based ROM) and it has an option to set the text restriction. So, it CAN be done. We just need to know WHERE the code is so that it can be changed. I can't find any search results explaining how to accomplish this. That SMS Limit Unlock app doesn't work on later ROMS.
After hours of searching today - it appears that the setting has been moved into the framework?

I hope I'm wrong as I'm no Android dev.... But, if I'm correct the only way I know of to "fix" it is to make the change in a custom Android build/ROM.
This SUCKS as I use mass texting for business purposes (communicating with many individuals who sign up for contract work). I really like Android N (along with AndroidPay) - but, looks like I'll be going back to M (on a custom ROM)...
If anyone locates/determines a way to alter that file using RootExplorer/Sqlite or some other way - please let me know.
