I've just got back from work having lef my XDA II on O2 at home, and the thing won't turn on!
When I plut it into the charger, a faint red light comes on (where the green signal indicator usually is), However after a few minutes charging it should deffinitely turn on, yet it still does not.
Does anyone have a clue whats going on??
If the main battery and backup battery run out, shouldnt sticking it in the cradle charge it?
Any help much appreciated
Try removing the main battery for a while then try again.
I've had a few of such experience. It won't turn on. Even charging it from the power main, soft reset, take out main battery for a minute or half...
The only way to wake it up is to HARD RESET.
Strangely, I thought somehow the battery ran dry, but after one hard reset I noticed the main battery was at normal level, backup battery 100%. How frustrating. It happened a few times already.
8) I also found this problem. I use Spritebackup and schedule to backup everday at midnight. So, I can restore after have to do hard reset
What ROM version are you running on your XDA2?
I had the same problem on my MDAII and I was on 1.60.00WWE but an upgrade to 1.72.00WWE fixed the problem. That ROM also used to wipe my SD Memory!... Now I'm on 2.06.00WWE (Windows Mobile SE) and it's better than ever!!!
Good Luck!

I had the problems when I was on 1.60.00WWE. Since the very last hard reset (device not responsive to soft reset after a flight in February), I changed it to Sin's Merged ROM version 2 (WM2003SE). I wouldn't say it's better than ever, as I noticed the device is slower but it has been ok ...
I just joined the list because of this issue.
I have ROM Ver 1.72.00WWE and Radio Version 1.17.00.
I only upgraded both ROM and Radio in the past fortnight. It's only since the upgrade that I've had the problem of not being able to 'wake' the XDA and having to do a 'ahrd' reset. I have also another issue regarding the GPRS connection but I'll write a separate email on that.

XDA II Problems
Its nice to know other people have the same problems.....
I have had similar problems and either just remove the battery or do a soft reboot. As I travel a lot, I can't get to my desktop to back up. So I use a 1GIG SD card. But I have'nt lost any data yet.
One annoying problem I had was the damn thing kept switching on every time I picked it up or put in the hard case, or even just laid it down. It seems to have disappeared now. Has anyone else had the same problem?
so its fate!
check in this morning and mine is doing nothing, nada, zip
hmm soft reset nothing check the threads and this ones at the top!
used all day yesterday sitting on the charger overnight and bingo its dead...
Same problem
Have had intermittent problems with being able to turn on. Took battery out for a while and when it decides to work it automatically has performed a hard reset. Use daily for receiving jobs, recording serial numbers using BT scanner and then e-mailing. As well as being my phone and GPS. Have started taking my laptop with me just so I can restore data on the run.
What a pain!
XDA Problems
From the replies given it appears that the problem lie swith the battery. Has anyone raised this with the supplier? I was thinking of getting a spare one, but they are a bit pricey.
I honestly don't think it's the battery that's at fault. This is because I didn't have any problem with my XDA II until I upgraded the ROM and Radio recently. Secondly, it happens irrespective of whether the battery is fully charged, half charged ... whatever. IMHO, it's whatever was done in the upgrade!
When I got mine back from repair the battery was totally drained as well as the back up battery. would do nada, not switch on, nothing whatever I did.
A few minutes on the charger was not enough. You have to leave it in for about 14 hours once it's in that state for it to become live again.
Don't ask me why, but it needed at least 14hrs on that mains charger !
I too suffer this problem .... only since upgrading too.
Will try the Spritebackup method
guys i have a similar problem. my power button has broken and i turn on the device with the record button (i have remapped the buttons). Yesterday i turnd it on and the screen freezed on the today screen . I performed a soft reset, the screen went blank and it never turned on. Now the device is dead, soft reset won't work, it doesn't seem to charge (no light when i put it on the cradle) and i cannot perform a hard reset because i do not have a working power on/off button.
Is there anything i can do to turn it on?
Before the experts arrive, you could try removing your battery and simcard and leaving them out for a good 15 minutes they try again.
I broke the power on button off my last xda, my hubby soldered it back on
I've had the same problem since 10 days now. First time (friday), the phone just reset itself (hard reset) without reason... 4 times within 2 hours. When I came home i reloaded it for 12 hours and restored a backup. It worked fine from saterday until wednesday.
Then on wednesday it reset (hard reset) itself almost 10 times. Thats the first time i noticed a red light when I tried to recharge. The red light dissapeared after a couple of minutes and the phone would switch on again ... in hard reset mode. Again I left it charging a whole night and restored the backup the next morning. It worked fine again until ... yesterday (monday)... I dropped it (stupid me). It went completely dead. Even when recharging for 2 hours the light was still red. A new fully charged battery (my first thought) did not help a bit.
This morning I opened it up (its about 18 months old, so no more waranty) and i found nothing. When i closed it up... it did a hard reset !!! I changed nothing inside (I even found a little piece of metal afterworths that must have fallen out!). I suspect it was the fact that i removed the battery AND the SIM-card for more than 30min that did the trick. My phone is not SIM-locked (illegal in Belgium to sell sim-locked phones, good thing, but they are a lot more expensive here too). A brand new battery did not help.
Problem is ... when I send it in for repairs, it will be gone for about 4 weeks ! And the best they can do is give me a Sony Ericsson P900. I appreciate their effort, but carkit wont work, no GPS, etc... so i would rather try to solve the problem myself. I'll contact the repair center today and see what they suggest. I'll keep you posted
Cissen, how did you get on? Have you found an answer to your problem yet?
Edit: Mine crashed again yesterday and it showed the battery as being empty although I had fully charged it the day before.... so, I have now ordered a new battery.
They are pretty pricey for branded ones but I found this site yesterday so have ordered one from there - only 20 pounds including delivery so not wasted too much if they're crap

I've got this problem too, when I first got it, it turned for about three seconds then turned off, so I thought it was a dead battery. but when I put the battery in there is no charging light, I have tried 2 different batteries that work fine in my other xda IIi. If I take the battery out and place in the charger a red light comes on.
Ei guys. this is a bit different from your experience. Anyone experienced by just changing battery it went hard reset? or just by changing sim card on the phone, removing the battery just for a second the phone went hard reset although I did checked the backup battery which is in 100%. Anyone?
Hello,
I've a Wizard that is approximately 20 months old. Yesterday, before I went to bed, I set the alarm clock on the Wizard, put it next to bed and went to sleep.
This morning upon waking up I tried to switch on the Wizard but it couldn't. Firstly, I thought the battery was discharged, so I tried charging through USB on my computer -- it wouldn't charge or start. Then, I tried charging on the default charger -- again nothing.
I tried removing battery and soft reset - nothing. It's really weird, yesterday I left it working, no-one has touched it and today it's totally non-responsive.
Any ideas what might be wrong/how can I bring it back to life? Would a hard-reset help?
Regards,
1. how much charge was in the battery last night?
2. is your battery 20 months old also?
3. do you have a spare battery to try?
4. do you have many applications, music etc. on the device?

Unfortunately I can't remember, however I have an alarm which sounds periodically when the battery is below 20%, so I'm guessing I had at least 20 percent. Could be wrong, of course, but most likely above 20%.

I don't have that. I guess I could go to mobile phone service shack and check there. Do you think it's the battery?

The Wizard came with a 64MB card I think. I had around 10MB free space. 3-4 applications, 2-3 mp3s. Nothing unusual.
Same thing (sort of) happened to mine after about 187 months. I was using mine and it hung up. I hit the reset button and that was the end of that. Even when plugged in it does nothing. Tried a hard reset... nothing. Soft reset.... nothing. Dead. Zip. Nadda.
Good news? Replaced it with a Kaiser!

Mine died too when i was flashing...
Leave the phone in the original charger for a while and see if it picks up...sometimes it comes back to life by doing that...
If that doesnt work, try a new battery, you might be lucky...
A somewhat strange development occurred today:
Today (3 days after it stopping working) I randomly tried to switch the Wizard on and it indeed switched on. It showed that it had 0% battery. It didn't even show 0%, basically the battery charge graph was empty - no number, no fill, nothing.
While it was on charge the charge light was on (while it was 'broken' the charge light was off when I tried to charge). So I left it to charge and when I checked back in 15 minutes it was back to being 'dead'. Can't be started, no charge light, nada.
I don't really know what's going on, however I'm highly suspicious of the battery. Currently, I'm periodically trying to switch it on again so I can backup my data.
Any ideas what might be wrong with it, do you think it's the battery or is it more serious?
Regards,
The battery won't charge if it gets to low.
There is a thread about using a 9V battery to get the battery up to a level so it will charge. I don't have the link for it, try searching for it or maybe someone else will reply.
You might have a bad battery. I bought a new battery because I didn't think I was getting the life that I should. I tried using the old battery about a month after when I had to run out and my main was low. About 15 minuets later my phone started shutting of and rebooting. That was the end of that battery.
Yep, it's possible. If the battery is to empty, you can't charge the phone. It is stupid but it's just like that. You also can't power on the phone without a battery with the charger connected.
Yesterday I received my wizard and I had to revive my battery too because it was completely empty. I used a self made 5V power supply and after 2 minutes charging I placed the battery in the wizard and was able to charge and boot with the charger connected.
Here's the 9v battery trick, connect the + from the 9v battery to the + of the phones battery and the - to the -, hold there for only 10 seconds then remove the connection for 10 seconds and then repeat the process about 8 to 10 times and then put the battery back in the phone and connect it to the wall charger to fully charge.
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to do the jump-start thing.
However, I've hard time determining which is the - and which is the + pin layout on the battery, since the label is not correctly applied.
As far as I can see the - is the one at the far right, however I'm not sure which is the + pin.
Can someone help me with this, please?

When you take out the battery and put it back in that direction ,turn and face up the connector side fasing you,the first connector from the rightside of the battery is the ' + ' and the last is ' - ' towards the leftside.Be careful while connecting and try not to touch other connectors. Don't keep the connections longer then 10 seconds interval.
good luck
Xeno1,
My MDA battery also died and went below re-chargeable state. Your trick to use 9volt battery to jump-start it worked just fine for me. I connnected for about 20 seconds (2x times) and plugged it back into phone and connected USB cable to it and my nice yellow charging light came back on. After about 30 mins, I could use the phone.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT TIP!!!
easier fix, take a standard usb cable. rip off the smaller end with a wire cutter, expose the red and black wire. take out your battery, than connect the negative(black) wire to the negative end of the battery, than the red wire to the positive end of the battery, leave it in there for exactly 3-5 minutes for jump start. after that turn your wizard on, and quickly shove it inside a new usb cable. or the wall charger.
note:
if not done correctly, you may damage your wizard or the battery. if theres a power overload or your power goes out. your wizard will burn out!
feedback is greatly appreciated.
p.s after that my battery seem to be weak, charge barely holds for 12 hours. after 12-14 hours it will die out. so i suggest buying a new battery after couple of days.
Thanks guys! Vario died yesterday and wouldn't turn on or charge.
Tried the 9v battery recommended here and it worked! I was a little unsure which end was - and which was + but using the advise above, got it right. Wasn't too worried as found and ordered a replacement from ebay this morning for £7.
The first connector on the right hand side, nearest the end of the battery is the + the one more towards the middle and further away from its corresponding end is -, or at least, thats what worked for me.
Thanks again!
Experiencing the same issues after I set aside my Mini S as it was experiencing problems with regards to its screen alignment. Wasn't able to charge it during that time I kept in the drawer unused - due to frustration as I can't use it anymore. After downloading a guide to disassmble it so I could remedy the problem I found out that it won't power up anymore even with a new battery.
Well, haven't tried the jumpstart thing and the original battery was disposed of already to try the jumpstart idea. Could it be the internal battery is causing the problems? I opened my unit up and tested the internal battery for power and it registers a measly .2V left. Will use the 9V thing to power it up (as been doing that before on watch batteries that are hard to find replacements) before I do it on the main battery. Here's hoping it works as the Mini S has been quite useful for me until now.
UPDATE: I charged the internal battery and it now reads 1+ V and the external battery at 3+ V. No luck yet though as the unit still won't show any life. Any suggestions?
Vivanov, I know it's been a few years now, but did you end up fixing your problem? If so, how?
I just removed my battery for about 5 seconds and my magician hard reseted...although the backup battery is at 100%...and it is not the first time that this happens...
why?
Thanks for any info

i got a similar problem... think its also related to the backup battery. Is the backup battery built-into the phone or into the normal battery? My phone goes off now and again especially when its in my pocket then when i turn it on again it had been hard reseted. I need to reset the screen and stuff and dates, msg's, contact everything had been deleted. Any help pplease. Depro did u get any answers?
only your answer.
I think my backup battery is buit in the phone. When I removed the battery my phone was on... i wonder if I should turn it off before removing the battery...

Same here. I think the backup battery wears off since I have changed the main battery. When I asked the O2 Repair Center regarding this, they say that O2 Xda II mini does not have a backup battery. I show them the battery screen but they keep answering me the same answer. I felt like I want to punch them in the face.
Anyway, it was not so when I first bought it.

hi all, the answer to your problem is , to send your mini back to factory. they will replace the motherboard/backup battery. its damage thats why when you pull the battery out, your mini goes hard reset. somehow the backup batter doesnt work. happened to me long time ago. hopefully yours still under warranty.

have you checked that your backup battery, the one built into the phone is fully charged before you take out the battery. (check in your settings menu under power)
i have replaced mine from a totaly broken xda (picked it up on ebay) as mine had failed and would no longer hold a charge for more than a few seconds.
i also had major probs with a hi powered battery it kept failing for some reason, totaly losing charge in a mater of hours on standby and this kept hard resetting my phone. so i no longer use the larger batteries.
The backup battery is fully charged
After have taking off the main battery about five minutes and putting on a fully charged one the back up battery might shows the power percentages about 25%.But It almost takes me about 30 seconds to change a another new battery,it's not possible the backup power's problem. I change battery exactly the same way when I do it.That's just too weird it sometimes hard reset and sometimes just doesn't.

The backup battery is fully charged even after having take off the main battery for three minutes!so there is nothing to do with the backup power.
I change battery exactly the same way everytime. Why just sometimes it gets hard restted and sometimes it doesn't.It makes me wonder.
Is this eda ii a broken one?Maybe I should turn it back to the repaireman's house for a few weeks?you know how bad China's services are ,they never do things that customers need.
Thanks your heartkinded help anyway

Thanks the same way though your idea seems not where the problem at.
like i mentioned it could just be because one of your batteries has an intermitant fail, as i said i had the same problem with a hi capacity battery, it somtime hard reset my phone for no reason.
just try buying a couple of new batteries, or lable your batteries and see if its only on one of them that the HR occurs.
Hi guys i have been having a very strange problem with my Legend, it only ever charges to 80% no matter how long you keep it on charge!
I factory reset it and it still kept doing the same thing, so i took it in for repair and they updated my firmware then factory reset and said it worked, i came home put my apps back on and now still the same problem!
I have found that if i take the battery out of the phone overnight then put it back in it will fully charge and the green light will light up, or if it hasnt charged overnight and i turn the phone off then take the battery out and put it back in it will register that its fully charged!
I turn off wifi and 3g and everything while i charge it so i cant seem to understand whats causing this?
any help would be appreciated!
Cheers
maybe your battery is corrupted... try to replace the battery and see if any changes appear
my battery is fine, i have already tryed with another one!
any other ideas as to why???

Have you tried resetting your battery stats? That could be an issue. If you have root, launch ClockworkMod recovery and find the "reset battery stats" option. Use it and try a full charge.
If that doesn't work then perhaps something in your phone's hardware is borked. If that's the case you should send for a replacement if you can.
