Did I brick my Ipaq 614c? - Sable

Today in evening my cell phone switched off after the battery died.
I put in the USB charger and once it started to charge I instantly at that moment switched it on, it showed the blue startup screen and vibrated and shut off again (I presume it was not charged enough at that moment to be switched on), I again instantly switched it on as it was charging, it showed the blue screen again, gave a long vibrate and shut off. Since than I have not been able to switch it on at all. It dosent even vibrate or show the blue startup screen at all.
The red led on top is on as it is in charging mode, but it has been like that for past 6 hours, after few hours the red led turns off automatically so I had to unplug and plug it again to turn the charging on again.
I have been pressing the power on button but nothing happens, I even tried doing the hard reset but nothing happens. Except the red charging light it has been dead for past 6-8 hours even after I have been charging it for that long.
What should I do?
And the bad thing is I live in US and got this phone from UK, so I dont think I have any warranty as www.expansys.com mentioned it earlier that this is UK based phone and their is no warranty in US.

I'm not sure you can just brick the hp by charging it. Try the following:
1. Remove the battery and plug in the charger. The ipaq works without battery only on external power. If yours doesnt, then the battery isn;t causing the problem.
2. Remove all sim and micro sd cards if you have put any. Leave the ipaq only as it is out of the box.
3. If it doesnt turn on either way, you have to try to restore the rom.
How to do that? Easy.
a) turn the device off. put in the battery and plug in the charger. Then press the record buton (on the right, just under tha jog wheel or whatever it's called)
and while holding it, pres the power on. It should turn on and over the blue screen ypu see "clean boot" Just leave it, take a deep breath and wait. DO NOT TOUCH IT until it boots windows and asks you to tap the screen. IF nothing happens you have anther option - go to the HP site and find the rom update - it's 53mb and it's a little tricky to find. Then turn the device off and run the rom update utility from PC. If this doesn't work, then i sugest you contact HP support online chat and ask for help (Not likely to get any).

Just do some research. Google it. Go to the hp site and try to find someone with the same problem.Don't just sit there. You have INTERNATIONAL WARANTY. In the worst scenario you can send the davice to HP in the UK and get replacement unit. If you haven't dropped, spilled on with water or charged with higher voltage(which i think you can't do in the US, as you have 110v circuits.) you can call HP support in your country, bring it there and just ask for replacement.
Don't try to flash it with roms provided on the site - it's not for first time users. Read, research and ask, before destroying your device.

When I tried step 1, all LED lights just started blinking, I tried powering it on but nothing happened.
Tried restoring ROM by pressing the buttons you mentioned but nothing happened. No power no clean boot, just switched off.
I downloaded the Rom from HP website and strange thing is to download it I selected the option on HP Website 'Detect my device' and they did detected my Ipaq 614C, but after running the file it goes to the screen 'Please wait shile the device state is verified' and than it fails to recognise my device!
Even when I know everything is firmly attached.

What is the PC you're using. Can you try to plug the usb cable in another slot.Did your ipaq work at the beginning.
Do you have Active Sync 4.5 installed? XP or Vista. XP is recommended. Is the update 53Mb (not the 1 mb one). When having hardware problems, the trick is to alter the variables - use different connectors, cables etc, different settings and so on. This ipaq is cheap for a reason - there are lots of faulty units, but that's why waranty is for - if you have a document for the purchase, you have international waranty. That's it. Before going to HP service center, try all possible options mentioned here again on a different PC with all the software needed - Active Sync 4.5 and usb drivers that may be included in the CD that comes with the ipaq. If the HP website recognises the devie it's almost sure you don't have a brick, as it probably verifies the EBOOT - the most vital part of your device's memory. Try upgrading a few times no matter the error. Restart the pc and so on. My advice - ask for online support or just call HP support. Be insistive but polite. If they say "go to the service center or something like that" just continue asking. Write down your case ID. Use online chat help on the HP site, even though your device is not listed, choose IPAQ 500 or 214 and just enter the SN and PN (on the back, under the battery) and Tell them your device model.

Probably WAY too late but I've just acquired a sickly 614C which I've nursed to health.....
There seems to be some bizarre issue with the charger in the 614c so that if the battery level falls too low, it requires a mains-connected USB charger rather than just the USB port on a pc/laptop.
If your 614c is the same as mine, the red LED will be pulsing very slightly when connected to the USB port but a solid red when connected to a mains USB charger.
Once the LED turns amber, it can then be connected to the USB port for further charging. It looks like it just needs an extra boost when the battery is completely flat.
HTH!

hi
i had the same problem when i left my phone uncharged for over a week. after reading about the same issues some of us encountered i came up with a simple idea that worked. i just connected the charger to the phone and long pressed the reset button (over a minute) till the red blink dissapeared and slowly the amber one took its place then i left it to charge.

Charmer will not boot unless connected to USB ?

Hi All,
I have a strange problem I wish to share (don't worry its with my Charmer !)
I am not sure when it started occuring, but now it will only boot with the USB connected. Without it I get a hangup on the 'Wondows Mobile' blue screen. Connect the USB and the version numbers on the T-Mobile boot screen come up much quicker and then after about 1 minute of the Windows blue screen it is on.
It is really weird ?
The onlys changes I have made is the registry memory improvements (mentioned in this forum) to try and get a little extra speed. I am pretty sure it did not start immediately after that though.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this
and if so
how did you overcome the problem.
Thanks.
yes, it is weird.
what you can do is
(1) see if it is battery. try connect it to your charger to see it boots up. If so, maybe it is a batteyr/power problem
(2) check if it is what you've done - back up (using any software) and hardreset your device. if you device is not able to boot up after hardreset, it is a hardware fault, have it serviced
Guys, I have the same problem with Time & date backup when change main battery but with more sympthoms:
Aprox. 1 month of using my XDA mini S (original O2 UK ROM) I faced to problem which seems to be HW status.
I didnt not change WM5, I did not change ROM and no new soft has been installed during last month. I have no backup manager like SPBackup or
Backup manager installed on miniSD card (or in main memory) and no backup process is planned in Today screen.
PROBLEM:
It is not possible to boot Windows Mobile after soft reset WITHOUT ORIGINAL wall charger. It does not matter if I make soft reset 5x-10times, PDA frozen on
WM5 booting logo and keeps like that for hours with backlight ON.
Neither USB-PC cable connections nor other charger (from GPS receiver 500mAh) does not help to boot WM5.
I found out, even if PDA is POWER off (Power button press for more than 3sek) and I want to turn it on, PDA freezes on Windows Mobile window.
I got answer from one hungarian service point like:
"We know the symptom that you described below. Solution for that is a software update. Unfortunately there is a built in protection in upgrading package and we can not update phone software of other country's phone."
MY SOLUTIONS:
I doubt about correct solution from service because:
I make a miniUSB cable (like for charger) and connect other main battery to this cable. When second battery is connetted instead of original charger, XDA mini S boots and restarts correctly without freezing on WM screen.
I tried to to test how original backup baterry (in fact capacitor) works - parameters in Service manual at page 81 (CG1, Gold cap, 0,07F, 70 Ohm, 3.3V, Part number 16H00012-00M).
The I connect a capacitor 3.3V, 0.02F to this USB cable. I charge a capacitor externally and try to restart device with capacitor connected on USB cable (now without 2nd battery). Everything was OK.
Then I completely discharge externall capacitor and interesting was, that device can boots up correctly even with discharded capacitor because during booting, capacitor has a time (maybe 5-15s) to recharge.
CONCLUSION:
I think the backup capacitor (Part number 16H00012-00M) is damaged.
Do you know idea where to buy it on web (the best in Central Europe for me)?
Now with external capacitor on miniUSB cable in my pocket, it allows me to make soft reset or reset if device freeze anywhere at the street without 240V original charger. "What a Soviet solution ;-)". BUT WORKS! ;-)

Jasjar shuts down, doesnt power up without external power

I have an Imate Jasjar (1.12.38 WWE)
It is giving a rather weird problem. When the power is less than about 40%, the device shuts down (slowly fading screen) if any intensive program is run or multiple apps are opened. After this when I try to boot the device, it shows me the blue Imate spalsh screen and slowly fades off and shuts down.
However the moment I plug it into the usb port of my computer or the external charger, it boots up and works perfectly fine even if I remove the power, till it shuts down again that is.
Another way to simplify my statement could be that the device is showing the power status higher than it actually is. Which explains the booting up with external power.
Any suggestions as to how I can rectify this. This is really troublesome as the phone often shuts down while Im out and I cant really do anything except keep the device charged to the brim at all times to keep it functioning.
Another issue I have is that the device when connected to Windows XP via activesync gives an error "USB device not recognized"
I have tried using different computers and USB cables, but the problem is persistent. But if I keep it connected for long, it sometimes gets connected and syncs. The device has no problem getting charged due to the faulty USB connection though.
Any suggestions on this front?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you need to buy a NEW BATTERY.
OK, Thanks.
Any idea about the USB error?
I have very similar behaviour from my Uni (technically an SPV M5000 from Orange Switzerland), but somehow, I doubt it's the battery which is at fault.
I also see the powering down, with fading screen, and then refusing to come back up again (display fades out again on splash screen), but I've observed it with various levels of charged battery. It has happened at 85%( according to both the standard battery meter, and ilauncher meter) as well as at 30% and various levels in between.
If I plug in it, I can boot the device, and after that, the battery runs down normally. I doubt this would work if the problem really were the battery.
I've noticed that the problem arises most often when I'm accessing the internet, either by 3G or wlan. So far, it has never happened when I wasn't actively using the device (meaning I've never taken it out of my pocket and found it in this annoying state).
Any ideas?
Btw, I'm currently using Laurentius WM6 V7 ROM, but I observed the same behaviour with Ivans WM5 (I forget which version) before.
For the USB problem you could try connecting it and opening the device manager (right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager) and deleting the "Unknown Device" that pops up when this happens. Remove the cable, reboot.
This fixed it for me, but I had to do it again a few weeks later.
Oh, and a new battery is the other problem. I got one last week for about £5 from Ebay.
By the way, my Exec seem not to realize when will my batt full. I see 100%, and I wait for more than 1 hour later, but the LED doenst change green, it remains amber. What the heck with my fone?? My batt or my fone fault??

Bell Vogue keeps rebooting

Hi everyone,
I have had some trouble with my Vogue. At first it simply would not turn on. I would get a red light when I plugged the phone in to charge it. I have been using my old phone for several months now. Today I went out to the nearest Bell store and it seems like anything new is going to cost in the $500 area because I still have 1 year left on my contract. So I have renewed my interest in getting my Vogue working again
The original thread describing my original problem (with the red light) is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=546674
I purchased a new battery and now when I plug it in on the USB I can turn it on (no lights, red, green, or otherwise) but it does turn on. It boots up just passed the blue “Bell” splash screen and then reboots. It does this over and over again.
I am able to get into the boot loader screen by holding down the power and camera buttons and pressing the reset button.
Any ideas on what I can do? Any suggestions are welcome.
Regards,
The Fish
Reflash your rom when you get to the bootloader screen.
If you are unlocked flash nfsfan or whatever, just rename the nbh file to 'VOGUIMG.nbh' and it will flash.
If you were on stock you'll need the nbh from the stock package.
OK, here is an update
I have tried a hard-reset (press Send and End buttons at the same time and press reset button). This worked but the phone still kept rebooting. Tried the original battery, phone booted a little further up before rebooting.
I got the phone into boot loader mode and left it plugged in on the USB cable for a few minutes. This time when I rebooted I became ecstatic. I got all the way to the “align your screen” stage before hearing the “phone is dying” sound and the phone turned off. So here is what I think may have happened:
I have long lost the home charger kit. So I have, for as long as I can remember, been charging it by plugging it into a PC via the USB. This is fine except that Windows will only power the USB for the device if there is a driver installed. The device/phone looks different to Windows when it is in boot loader mode then when it is fully booted up. If the device is so dead as to not even have a flicker of life I don't think Windows sees it.
I have been doing this tonight under Linux. Linux seems to either have the driver, a more generic driver or powers the USB all the time for any device. I noticed this same behavior when charging my Moto Razr the same way. Under Linux it just worked by plugging it in. Under Widows I had to install the driver. So maybe here is what happened.
The battery got SO dead that it was not able to boot the phone up far enough for Windows on the PC to see it, recognize it and begin powering the USB port. Perhaps leaving the phone in bootloader mode and plugged into a Linux box got the battery a little more charged till I got to the point of being able to align the screen.
Anyway, I am more then ever convinced that this is some kind of battery/power issue. The phone is now lying here powered up and charging (already at 20%). The carrier customizations ran, rebooted while I crossed my fingers, and came back up. I even called *BELL and got a message about activating my phone. Tomorrow if the phone is charged up and behaving normally I will get an ESN change done and be back in the world of decent smartphones. Man have I ever missed my Google Maps
The next step is to flash a more up-to-date ROM... if I dare mess with a good thing.

My tablet doesn't turn on again

Hi, I start this new thread as a new user and my first message because I'm really really worried about my samsung galaxy 10.1 tablet, It is a wi-fi only tab I bought through Amazon, and has just arrived to my country, Costa Rica, so, as any normal person, I opened the box, readed the manual and turned it on, and started checking everything in the tab, and when finished, (because I don't have wi-fi yet) I turned it off, and started to charge it with the factory charger (AC conector) it has been 5 hours since then... It has not turned on again, no matter if I press the On button 30 seconds, nor turning it on conected to a computer, or to the AC, or without anything, so I called support, and they said the same thing I was expecting, charge it and see what happens, and nothing happened, I'm really really worried about my tab, 600$+shipping is a BIG amount of money to have invested, the computer is brand new, as you will buy it from the second link availabe in amazon when you type samsung galaxy tab 10.1.
Can you help me?
Tab does not turn on..
What finally happen did it turn on...If not there is a why to reboot it by holding the vol. button and the Power.
Hope it went well, don't give up..
That is why I made this thread, I already tried the volume technique, with +, with -, with both, with + and shaking, with - and shaking, and all those with also touching the screen, an nothing!!
when you turned it off and plugged it in to charge, did you notice anything appear on the screen indicating that it was charging? Normally when turned off and plugged in a battery will appear on the screen. even if the screen turns off you can touch the power button to show the battery again.
If no battery ever appears, then it looks like you were not receiving a charge in the first place so the tab can simply be dead of juice.
Yes, the first time I turned it on I saw the battery, but when I turned it off, I never saw it again, even in this 10 hour period that has been charging on different outlets to see if the outlet is the problem.
Even I used a pencil tipe voltage tester, that tells if an outlet has voltage current, and the voltage could be felt around the tablet when charging.
But the screen does not turn on when pressing the button, nor touching the screen.
as a test, use just the usb plug and connect it to your computer. it shouldnt receive alot but see if that will initiate the screen turning on displaying the battery.
No, it does not turn on even when conecting it to the computer, it appears a message of no controlers found in the computer, but the divice does not turn on at all

idk then man, it could be the wire or it could be the tab itself
Besides something wrong with the GTab, I guess it could still be a defective cable.
Yes, it could be a possibility, that the wire is bad, but also, I can mention that in the time it was on, and working, I exchanged a couple of photos for my wallpaper, photos that I took with my camera long ago, so, if conection means, the cable I think works ok.
this happened to me.. tab is finished, send it in for repair and you will receive a refurb....

Did you press power and volume down at the same time for at least 31 seconds for samsung logo to come on?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
I've tried with the volume key and the power key at the same time for almost a minute, without being conected to the charger, and being conected, also tried conecting it to the computer, and downloading the drivers that samsung offer in the support page, and samsung kies, but they don't recognice the device, when checking the hardware of my computer, I see inside the tab of "other devices" one called APX that I know that is my tab, and says no controller is assigned to it.
Mackie, yesterday (today) I chatted with a support agent of samsung until 2am, trying to see for a solution, but he couldn't find one, so, we ended up in making a request for service, to use the warranty for them to repair/give another machine to me, but, I don't want to do it, because, it would be enormously expensive for me (100$ for a Costarrican is very expensive) so, I'm trying to find a solution to the problem before I send the tab to the US with a friend that lives there, so I can use the warranty, but that courrier charges would be really expensive for me.
In summary, I'm trying and trying to look for a solution, testing your comments and suggestions, and also at the same time looking for myself for an answer.. before december 8, when I plan sending my tab if anything works.
Once, this happened with my nokia e71, but because it ran out of battery, and won't turn on again, but... cellphones are easy, you can change the battery, and actually, it worked, and when I had time to take him to repair, they checked him with the old battery, and it worked again... Tabs are horribly sealed tight and I would lose the warranty if I try to open it to change the battery, and it might even not solve the problem!
i don't know if this would help.
I had the same situation and i thought mine was dead.
I pressed the volume button as long as i can. Took about almost a minute.
Sorry if this doesn't help
people please read previous comments, Coliner has stated numerous times in different posts that he has tried the power+volume method and has had no luck so please stop suggesting it
Coliner, the only other thing short of paying the money for the exchange/repair is to attempt using a different cable. you stated before that you used both the usb partial charge and the actual A/C charge method and have received no results. The only thing I can suggest is to try a different cable, if anyone else you know has pretty much any of the galaxy tab (7", 7+, 8.9", 10.1", 10.1v) then you can attempt to charge it. Or hell, see if any store has any of them on display charging, explain your situation and ask to let you give it a shot and if it works buy the cable from them if possible.
Short of prying the thing open to play surgeon, these are your only options.
NyPlaya, today, I'm going to the capital (the only place you could find something similar) and look for stores with tablets, and also directly to a samsung store, ask for a charger, and to see what happens, and try again to turn it on at my house, I've let her charging for 2 days now, continuosly, lets hope it worked!

I re read your post and i think we missed a big clue. You said you can see APX device in control panel. Apx is nvidias debug mode and in this mode (usually reached via power and volume up) the screen is blank. it is waiting for nvflash command. Check this thread for more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324461
So wonder if volume up button might be stuck
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
Well, I tried the procedure, and got to step 17... How do I run that command, how, where? so I then uninstalled the controler, and now not even the APX error appears, and tablet is still dead!
Also I went looking for chargers in stores, and they did not have chargers! so I couldn't test it!
I was searching in other forums and found this other clue:
Taken from http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=274687 post #14:
"What you run "dead" after having it at night charging, is something that unfortunately is still quite common. It happened at the beginning and pulled by soft reset, ie power button volume button -. It has happened a few times and this has been solved. I think it is related to removing the charger. Unplugging from the wall and then the tablet does not usually fail, but if you disconnect first tablet, it "dies." I tried also to turn on the screen before unplugging and so has not failed me to unplug the tablet first. Clearly a bug, I do not know if Samsung or Honeycomb, but obviously it is a pretty annoying bug. regards"
I remember I did that same thing! because my tab was conected to the PC, and I discovered it was not charging, I conected her to the AC in the wall, and without taking the 30 pin conector out, and boom, never again it has turned on!
I continued searching and found another method, power button plus volume- 10 seconds, release and volume + for some seconds, then conect to PC, and the driver appeared again, in this case Nvidia USB boot recovery
I continued to try the method shown to me by animatechnia, and typed nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --go, it says then:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Windows\system32>cd C:\nvflash
C:\nvflash>nvflash --bl bootloader.bin --go
Nvflash started
rcm version 0X4
Command send failed (usb write failed)
C:\nvflash>
READ THIS, IT'S HAPPENED TO ME
Shortly after buying my tablet, before rooting, my tablet was charging and would NOT turn on. I read somewhere to do this:
Put your finger on the screen while holding the power button for as long as you must.
Don't let go til it comes on.
Edit: best of luck if that doesn't work. Things like this suck.
First time I tried with the finger, I forgot to disconect it, so, my pc started making sounds of conected device, disconected device, just like an USB stick, then I took the cable off, and tried for more than a minute both finger and power, and nothing happened

[Q] Interesting issue

So I was donated a Droid 2 as the original owner claimed it wont turn on and so must be dead. I happily took it hoping I may be able to revive it.
Quick rundown:
- No indication of water damage ie the watermark stickers have not changed
- Wont turn on, even when replacing with a Droid 1 battery (they are the same, i checked)
- Does not seem to hold a charge (via usb computer), however I can get the charge "white" light to come on, sometimes this happens, sometimes it doesnt...
- Pressing and holding "X" while powering had no effect
- I do not have an actual wall charger but will order one based on what I discovered below...
-Something interesting happens when I have it plugged to my pc AND I am able to get the white charge light to come on. If I quickly press the power button a few times (not pressing and holding mind you), my computer makes an error tone which it usually makes when it detects hardware improperly. I did it again while I had Device Manager on and sure enough, after the error tone started on the computer the words "OMAP 3630" popped up in my list of devices (under "Other Devices" category) and then disappeared.
This gives me hope that this device is salvageable! I read around and it seems like charging these moto devices with their own motorola wall charger (not usb) seems to help charge the device when its not charging so I went ahead and ordered one online which will arrive next week.
So what are your thoughts? Has anyone gotten OMAP 3630 to show up in their device manager? Am I wasting my time? Is there hope that this device can be resurrected?
Any assistance is appreciated
