Stuck in bootloader... - Touch Cruise ROM Development

I am afraid my Polaris bricked, but I hope somebody knows a solution. Let me explain:
I turned off my device to get my microsd card out. I put the card in my cardreader to fill it with a lot of music. After that I inserted the card in the polaris, turned on the pda, and I got into the bootloader screen .
I tried to soft reset: bootloader screen again, tried to hard reset: bootloader, tried to flash original rom: rom update complete and after that bootloader, tried to flash several cooked roms: rom update complete and again the bootloader. When I try to charge my polaris it automatically turns on and goes to the bootloader. Flashing with microsd doesn't work. I also tried the thing with mtty, but it doesn't show the usb option in the list...
I DID hard-spl, I was using udk diamond R8 and never had any trouble before, while flashing about once a 2 months. I really am desperate, because I am unable to charge the pda now. I searched well and I only found threads of people who forgot to hard-spl before flashing custom roms.
I hope someone comes up with a brilliant idea, I love my Polaris way too much working and I don't want it to be a nice looking pda that doesn't work anymore.
PLEASE HELP!

I now manage to get into the mtty application, but I don't know if it is a good idea to use it. The problems I found here which could be solved with mtty are different from my problem I think. What would be wise to do? I flashed various original roms, and radios. That seems to work as normal, but after flashing I keep returning in the bootloader screen .
I hope one of you has an idea what to do. If it is something that is involving risk, I think I should do it anyway, because in this current state my Polaris is useless.

a few ideas! maybe they can help!
1) do you have warranty? you can restore back to original spl and then get HTC to ix it!
2) Try flashing your phone without the MicroSD card in place, maybe with the stock HTC Rom

Another option - try to delete all files from your memory card.

Thanks for the replies.
1) do you have warranty? you can restore back to original spl and then get HTC to ix it!
I read the thread about restoring back to original spl. There is stated that you can't restore to original spl if you are stuck in bootloader...
2) Try flashing your phone without the MicroSD card in place, maybe with the stock HTC Rom
I tried a lot of times, but every time after flashing has finished, I return to the bootloader
Another option - try to delete all files from your memory card.
I formatted my memory card in fat32, tried to flash with sd-card. When I turn on the phone it shows about 0.5 seconds something like "no rom image" and returns to bootloader screen
My cruise is still stuck, and I really think about trying things in mtty as a last resort... Anybody who knows what commands I should give in mtty in this situation? All help is appreciated, and if a suggestion makes my polaris work again I will donate the brilliant xda-member 20 euro's!

I have the same fault and have not found a solution. Every time I soft reset I am stuck in the boot loader screen. If I switch off the phone using comm manager then soft reset the phone will boot okay.
The only method I have found to be able to boot properly is to leave the battery out overnight and then start the phone in the morning. Always boots without a problem this way.
To make matters worse the USB port on my phone is broken...

Bricked Hermes (SPV M3100) while flashing SPL - any help or sugestion are wellcomed

All started with trying to upgrade(rewrite) the GSM part because the Hermes had problems with phone part - when trying to call - the phone stop responding, bus the pda part sill worked.
So - I tried and tried and tried again, reading many threads about HARD SPL,Flashing radio, etc. Nothing worked..
In the end "i managed" to kill GSM - phone had "No Gsm" on boot-up.
From there i tried to downgrade SPL to 1.04 so that i try to "raw" rewrite the GSM part.
But something went terribly wrong, and while downgrading SPL, the phone suddently shutdown and never opened again.
Now i have the folowing situation: NO BOOTLOADER, no usb conectivity, nothing
This means that i cannot connect via USB whatever i try.
Is there any hope for me? or is it TOTALLY BRICKED?
Any help is apreciated!! I can even dismantle the mobile if there is any way to flash it via some kind of jtag connection...anything ...
The folks at www.imei-check.com can do the JTAG flashing. Just email them. It would be costly for you to do it yourself...
Are you saying that the phone won't turn on at all or that it does but you can't get a bootloader screen?
Have you tried taking the battery out for a while? Have you tried flashing an OEM rom and radio compatible with your device off an SD card?
All of this info is in the wiki, as are OEM roms you can flash.
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck.
WB
Try this:
1.) Remove battery
2.) Connect Hermes to charger or USB
3.) Insert the battery while Hermes is connected to charger
4.) Red light should turn Amber
5.) Soft Reset
@wacky.banana: The phone is totaly dead: no bootloader, doesn't boot at all, doesn't seem to have any USB conectivity at all. Flashing from micro sd doesn't work : probably because the bootloader isn't working.
@drummer10630: i'll check with imei-chek about jtag flashing, especially the price and shiping costs.thanks
@markafreeman: I tried, but when i put the battery in, the red light goes off, not to amber . no soft or hard reset helps. not even leaving the battery out for 2 weeks - i had tried that too . thanks anyway.
Anything else I can try? - phone totaly dead, no bootloder, no usb conectivity - cannot use mtty, cannot flash from microsd
I had to get a replacement device at that point when it happened to me.
Maybe someone else know a way to get it working.
Good luck.
get onto orange
tell them you dropped the phone
and it crashed and wouldnt turn on
so you managed to hard reset it
and it crashed an ****ed up
they'll replace it
well they will send it to HTC
who just replace the handset rather than repair it
Hi dancameo2k , maybe you will not remember but plz:
I ve bought recenty an spv m3100, im effortless trying to flash the rom to an wm6 version.
Like you ive started with the hardsppl flash thing to prevent bricking it and prior to sd flashing... and im not sure if its workin...
plz can you explain in detail how did you bricked it??? thx!!!!
the rom you used to flash was an american version or european one???

WM6.1 doesnt load after flashing bepe 0.66

Hello everybody,
i have major problems after trying to flash bepe rom 0.66. The rom before flashing was bepe 0.59. The flashing finished fine, but after automatic restart, the windows mobile failed to boot, it stuck on green WM6.1 screen. After all, i tried to hard-reset my device, but nothing helped.
I can enter bootloader, but it is bootloader version POLA200 SPL-1.25.0000. When i try to flash ram, the flashing stucks at 0% and the error 262 occured.
So i have no idea what to do, and how i can reanimate my polaris. I have some questions, in another thread i have read that it isnt possible to flash the rom with this bootloader, i have to install the HardSPL, but i dont know how i can install hardSPL?
Another question is, can i flash the original rom without hardSPL?

i have tried this, but it changed nothing, always stuck in green WM6.1 Screen or by 0% flashing with error [262].
I'm not sure it works but you can try flashing hardSPL by microSD.
Take a microSD and format in FAT32, rename RUU_Signed.nbh in POLAIMG.nbh, insert microSD in Polaris, put it in bootloader, press the power button, it takes some seconds to start, wait.
If it works you can after flash the ROM with the same procedure.
Thanks for all replies!
This is a good idea batista, but i have some questions to this procedure.
Which rom would you take? first hard-SPL and after that a cooked rom?
How i can see that it works, cause you say you dont know wheather it works? Have you made experience with flashing from micro-SD?
Flash before HardSPL and after a ROM, i've Bepe 0.65 ITA.
You can see if it works if after you can flash a ROM, i've never flashed by miscroSD 'cause i've a PC with XP and i prefer to flash via usb but a lot of
people use to flash via microSD.
Trying to flash rom from microSD, has no satisfying effect as well. It stucks on a white screen with blue label "Loading...". Maybe its because 8GB microSD card and it is not able to load a rom from that one.
Please, i am happy about every post. Because i wont have destroyed 450 €
Do you format microSD before ????
Can you try with another one ????
If in FAT 32 doesn't work try in FAT 16.
No i cant try it with another one, but ordered another one on amazon, so on wednesday i hope i can try with another one. Formating with FAT16 is also impossible, i have no such choice in windows XP, but i think FAT32 would be the right one.
I think the main problem is, i have not installed hard SPL, but i dont know how to install without connection to windows xp. And i havent found any thread where it is mentioned to install hardSPL without connection to windows xp.
Have You tried to flash hardSPL via microSD or not ???
Same procedure of ROM flashing.
yes both hardSPL and direct bepe 0.66 but none of them worked. both stucking on loading... screen. Maybe there is a problem with 8GB hc micro sd?
Remove microSD and SIM and try flashing hardSPL via PC with Polaris in bootloader.
i also tried this, but it stucks on 0% updating and on windows xp the 262 Update Error appear. I will give this one a retry tomorrow. But i am not very hopefull.
I'm really sorry, i hope someone has a solution for your problem.
another user named sassa80 had exactly the same issue like you. he did not HardSPL first and tried to flash a new radio rom. the story ended with a RMA return of his HTC.
Hi Incubant,
You may try to flash an *original* ROM renamed to POLAIMG.nbh trought microSD. I used that procedure with a Sandisk 16GB, FAT32 and it worked ok. Before that, mine were kind of bricked on the SPL loader.
I think the step I may have missed the first time was to unplug and replug usb cable the first time I run the update on windows, right after the reset when on the palm screen it said to do so (after all on windows, the application were telling to *not* unplug the cable for 10 minutes). Anyway, if I recall correctly, I failed to update the SPL and at the end of flashing a beta of 6.1 it stopped at 99%. So... I was stuck - couldn't reflash anything. Nevertheless, the procedure that I mentioned on the first paragraph did solve it. After that, I had no problem installing the HardSPL and any other ROM.
Good luck
Another one here with the same problem.
Tried everything I can think of and still stuck on the 6.1 boot screen.
The people who are having problems above with the latest flash e.t.c, which brand of device you using? XDA Orbit II?
For me, it's an O2 Orbit II.

I thought you might say that, I also have an XDA Orbit II and have noticed a different set of behaviours under the same conditions as compared to the HTC Touch Cruise users. It appears that an Orbit II and a Touch Cruise are both a Polaris but an Orbit II is not a Touch Cruise if that makes sense. Apart from the quite apparent visual differences between the two, are there any internal differences we are not aware of? The Orbit II always appears to act differently, some tweaks/roms/advice have outcomes different to the touch cruise, especially certain reg tweaks.
From using the latest bepe ROM it appears to be quite buggy, also reported by other users, look at bepe ROM thread. Hopefully bepe which deal with the bugs because his ROM, in my opinion, is by far the best.
I too had the STUCK-AT-GREEN-SCREEN issue when I flashed the latest ROM, I waited about 5 minutes, then HARD-RESET, then when presented with the GREEN-SCREEN again for a few minutes, I pressed one of the upper buttons (green phone / red phone).
I hope you sort the problem out.

tri color screen

Help I cannot get my 8525 off the tri colored screen. I have been searching thru these forums but have not found the right combination.
It is set up for WM6 and att
did you press the reset button and it still comes back to this tricolor screen?
if resetting doesnt work, hard reset, if that doesnt work then yu may have to reflash os. My suggestion would be using the sd card method as all you need to do is be in bootloader with a fat32 formatted memory card and the .nbh file of your favourite rom installed on it and renamed to "hermimg.nbh". hope this helps...
stuck in bootloader screen
my phone...said no signal...I couldn't even open the phone pad ....then my sim did not show.....I tried soft resets several time.... nothing would help I noticed under device info it would not show radio version or rom version..... so I downloaded a fresh version or att 6.0 wm.. and tried that to see if it would help... while installing it stop @ 11 percent with error code.262 tried several times and nothing still same thing..... is their hope.... can I install a cooked rom... or is my phone dead I hope not but you guys are the best....can anyone please help......
dr71399, sounds as if your radio has had it... try to fix any bad blocks on your phone with MTTY first(do a search in upgrading for instructions) first then try to flash a radio only rom, if that doesnt work you should do a search for others that have had their radios corrupted and see what is suggested. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but most people find once that happens its a brick, not that you cant flash an os only rom to use as a PDA.
If your phone is still under warranty then try to put the original rom back on and return for warranty but thats all I can think to do... See if a chef can fix up an os only rom for at&t or try to do it yourself.

Is it bricked?

Can anyone help me?
I was flashing back to stock SPL, using sd card, and pulled the sd card out while it was flashing (don't ask, I seemed to forget for a moment what I was doing and realized I needed my card for my other phone) Now, I have the stock SPL, shows PANT200 SPL-0.36.0000 CPLD-2 when phone starts, and says "Upgrade ROM code error Please Try Again". But, if I put my sd card in it with PANTIMG.nbh SPL file, then I get a screen that says "Loading...". And that's it, left it like that forever it seems and no change.
Any idea? It won't connect to the computer so I can't flash from computer. Even QPST won't find it.
FWIW: I do kinda know what I am doing. Unlocked mine and wife's Treo Pros with Cmonex hard spl, and flashed several ROMs, including a couple I cooked with NightRaven's kitchen. I was just going back to stock cause my wife doesn't like changes, and now this happened.
TIA,
Malachi
OK, thanks to cmonex I got this working again. Had to connect to mtty and run: set 16 0.
Did that and soft reset, and Voila! my Pro works again..
Thanks Cmonex!!!!
Out of curiosity:
I need to revert to the original stock spl as well. Have not found a way yet...Could you offer me some guidance.
Thanks.

[Q] Help!

Hey guys,
Sorry to be a burden but I'm having a few issues with my hd2, and being a noob I didn't really know where to turn except this forum.
Basically my dad bought the hd2 from the UAE early this year and it all worked fine on stock settings for about 6 months. In the last few months, however, the phone started to lock up, and it got to the point where it wouldn't even boot properly.
In an effort to fix the problem I went with a hard factory restore, however, this seems to have caused more problems as now the phone is stuck in the bootloader.
I've been searching for hours, and have come to the conclusion that I need to update the flash? and then possibly install a new rom on the phone?
My major issue in doing this though, is that I can't seem to connect to activesync while the phone is in the bootloader.
Please help me sort this out.
First of all lets make sure that your trying perform the hard reset correctly.......
You need to hold down both volume buttons whilst the phone is turned off..... Then tap the power button and keep the buttons held down.......
Release them when you see the confirmation screen.........
Powering on while holding only the vol down button will take you to bootloader....
If you need to reflash the device then have a read of this thread here....
If its a "Tmous" HD2 (green and red call/hangup buttons) then you need to read this one
When connecting to the pc in bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen change to "USB".......
Might be worth checking the text on you bootloader screen for any irregular looking characters, there have a few cases of people with corrupt bootloaders, usually these will display odd looking characters at the top. This is quite rare though.
If you want to flash another stock rom then you wont need to worry about HSPL just download the appropriate ROM and follow the instructions on screen.
Start off at the HTC site and input your serial number to see which ROM is suitable for your device.....
If none of that helps then hold out for some advice here from someone with better knowledge of these things.....
Ok well I've just tried to do the hard reset in the way you've described and had no response from the phone. I had to remove the battery from the back to actually power down the thing as nothing else seemed to work. I can't actually seem to start it up again now =S
Thanks for all the info, I'll keep trying to get it started. I'm downloading the stock rom from the htc site. Hopefully I will find a way to install that.
Also, when the bootloader was up, there weren't any odd characters that I could see. It all seemed pretty standard. It had the current rom driver which was 1.42 or something and a few other lines of info.
Thanks for the post.
edit: perhaps the battery is dead?
No problem.
Is it charging when plugged in and turned off?
If so let it charge while turned off for a while and then try to boot........
If you cant get to bootloader and establish a USB connection then you could try flashing the ROM from the SD card.
rename the rom to "LEOIMG.nbh" place it on the root of a freshly formatted (fat32) sd card and turn on the phone holding vol down..

To be honest I have no idea if it is charging whilst turned off =S All I get is the bootloader when it decided to turn on and that gives no indication of power level so I really have no idea. It makes updating a rom pretty scary haha.
So I just attempted to install the default rom from teh htc site, but failed due to the lack of activesync. It was strange though because the updater managed to change the screen on the phone and get to 1%. It then crashed and I had to go through this recovery process.
I will have to try this SD card process I guess. Could you perhaps link me to a more in depth guide to how to do this?
Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it.
you should get a red light up near the earpiece to indicate that its charging........
try this video for flashing from sd card......
I am not getting a red light flashing? But it doesn't seem to be running out of charge. I'm still having lots of trouble
It would seem that I need to install this hspl before I do anything, however, I can't install that if I can only access the bootloader screen. Does this mean my phone is bricked?
I want to be able to set up a rom straight from SD, however, I have no idea where to start. That video just seems to send me in a big loop.
Perhaps you could link me to a simple rom that I can attempt to load via sd card?
edit:
I seem to have somehow fluked an install of HSPL 8G XE.
I have no idea how this happened or whether it is good or bad.. but at least something has happened.
Hmmm
installing hspl is covered here
as long as the word "serial" is changing to "USB" on the bootloader screen when you connect to the computer you should be ok.......
You dont need HSPL to flash via sd card but I think that video was directed more towards people installing cooked ROMS from XDA.
Installing a stock rom will automatically overwrite HSPL so unless your planning to flash a custom ROM then installing HSPL is pointless........
You might be better off installing a cooked rom. (Artemis, Dutty's)
They tend to run better than stock, if you get one running then it will be easier to get back to a stock rom (if you want to) than the situation your in now.....
This is from the flashing guide;
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Reckon you could link me to one of those roms? I think we're getting pretty close now.
Your help has been great I can't thank you enough.
Your welcome
You can find Dutty's ROM here
or the Artemis ROM here
Have a quick read and see which one you think you'll prefer, to be honest I think they're both pretty similar to stock but with a lot of the crap taken out....
Just follow the steps in the first link I posted and you should be good to go.
Ok new problems.. Can you believe it.
I seem to have tried everything.
Basically I can install of a sd card, but when it gets to the end of the install and I restart instead of booting into a OS it boots to the tri colour screen, and starts the install process again.
Also, I have attempted to install via usb and have had varying success.
As I have already said, I am able to install hspl, however, when I try to flash I get to varying percentages below 30% before the whole thing freezes.
I now have an error that says Upgrade Rom code error Please Try Again.
Sorry i dont mean to hijack ! but will any of you be kind enough to help me here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879980
thanks !
Ok so I followed the steps and still to no avail.
I am able to boot using the sd card method, however, the same problem occurs with each rom version. Basically as soon as I reset the device it pretty much switches itself off, then I can't turn it back on, once I finally do turn it on, it restarts the process like it never happened.
The other issue is again the active sync problem.
With most of the the usb connections I am able to connect and get a little way through the install (most I've got is 15%) then it just freezes up and I get the 262 error
Your best bet is to try flashing with a freshly formatted (FAT32) 4gb, class 2 card.
I know, sounds pretty specific right?
You wouldn't think it would matter?
I have tried flashing with 16 gb class 2, failed at the radio step
Tried with a 8 gb class 6, failed at the radio
4 gb, class 2, flashed successfully.
Seems our HD2's are picky about what cards they'll take a ROM from for some reason.
Alright I'll try that, my next issue is which is the stock rom for the phone =S
It was bought in the UAE and I'm currently in Australia.
edit: Also I read somewhere that the constant bootloader screen can be caused by a bent battery pin?
Edit2: I have attempted to do that, however, now the bootloader will accept the card, then just sit on loading...
I'm pretty sure this thing is bricked.

I've heard of bent battery pins being a pretty common problem, causing usually just the phone not to charge properly. I've personally never heard of it causing constant bootloader, but it's definitely worth checking.
It's weird that it's such a common problem, my usb/charging port is broken, so I have to use an external charger. I change my battery on average twice every 24 hrs, and I've never bent a pin
Ok, new info, apparently because the device is for the middle east it does not support stock 3.14 roms. What does this mean for me? Am I bricked.

Firstly, your phone is not bricked - a bricked phone is responsive as a brick.
Can we start from the begining?
What does the Bootloader Moder screen say (with and without the USB cable connected)?
What ROM (and if custom ROM, what RADIO) have you flashed and are trying to flash?

Alright from the beginning.
Basically about a month into using the phone in Australia it became very unresponsive to the point where it would not boot at all. We left the phone for a couple of months, however, after seeing a friend rom android I decided maybe it was time to attempt to fix this phone.
Some more info:
When I attempt to do any sort of ROM update there is nothing in the 'current image' part so for example it will say update to Dutty 3.6 but it's updating from nothing, does this mean there's no firmware there?
In the bootloader I have:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MICROP(LED) 0X05
MICROP(TOUCH) 0X40
Without USB cable in I get Serial in the white part down the bottom, with the USB cable in + plugged into computer I get USB.
Just to further clarify. In regards to the ROM I have installed. I simply don't have anything installed. There is a bootloader, no image, no bootup. It boots up to the tri colour, that's it.
For a moment we will forget about going to 3.14 ROM: I don't know if that phone is entitled to an official upgrade to 3.14, if it is locked to a particular network, if it is branded, etc. If it is not entitled to a 3.14 ROM upgrade then you will have to go through GoldCarding, so we will leave it for now.
Make sure that the battery has had a good couple of hours charge in the charger or double that if connected to the computer.
Remove SIM Card and SD Card.
Switch on to Bootloader Mode, then connect to USB.
Download and run HSPL2 - ignore the instruction about connecting to ActiveSync etc, just proceed.
Download and install the HTC 1.66 WWE ROM - again, ignore the instructions, just proceed.
The reason for HSPL is because your phone may be operator locked (not SIM locked) and you aren't entitled to run the 1.66 WWE ROM.
