Well after 5 days of having this phone, it seems to have got very slow...
Going into messages and then opening the keyboard, the screen can just sometimes freeze.
When typing a message there is a good second lag from when I type it to it appearing on screen.
Also, ive noticed that pictures I take with the phone seem to be very pixelated on the phone.
Ive had 2 taskbars at once from opening and closing the keyboard.
Just in general the phones seems to going extremly slow. Panels take ages to open up when the panel button is pressed and take a good 3-5secs to load.
It seems like this phone/OS has a stupid amount of bugs that need to be sorted asap.
Anyone else got these problems?
guess it's a matter of expectations
or you experience issues I don't
I'm in no hurry to update to a newer rom myself
well it was fairly quick and i was impressed at first.
but now this has just turned into the slowest and buggiest phone ive had
do you exit programs or do you just put them in the background?

Disable threaded SMS view, it *should* get rid of the lag you speak about.
Have you tried a soft reset? Leaving the phone running non stop for 5 days will slow it down.

yep done. still seems slow...
is it because of some programs ive installed?
uh is this your first pda? I mean I asked because you said your x1 is slow. may we know its slow compared to what? if it is just slow. then I guess wm6.1 is just slow. Ialso have sim-free one. And have a few pda's from wm2003 to 5, 6 and 6.1 and yep the 6.1 is a bit slow.
Its slow compared to how it was when I got it 5 days ago.
However, i have just uninstalled:
Spore
2 tweak programs
Windows Live Panel
The phone is a lot faster now.
Before I was waiting at least 3-4seconds for messages to loads, the screen to rotate etc...
which tweaks were slowing you down?
yeah which one? might help us make ours faster too.
Have you installed touch flo? that screws up the X1's speed
Ok heres what in uninstalled. This has made the device a lot quicker (well, only as quick as default speed - as it was when the device was first used)
Windows Live Panel
Spore
XperiaTweak 2.0
Some other tweak program, allowed you to change what animations ran etc. Can't remember its name. AdvanceTweak or something
After uninstalling these, it made the device as quick as it was when I first got it.
I haven't got any random roms or anything like that. Everything on the device is official.
No TouchFlo
Standard O2 Rom
Ive editied the registry to remove the O2 Panel but this hasn't made a speed difference.
is it possible that spore run on background, developing it's creature.
I too occasionally get 2 seconds freezes. Could it be some cache setting in Xperia Tweak ? Since I don't understand them much.
You can use task manager (I mean real task manager which show processes, it's in phone:\windows) to check what eats CPU and RAM.
I loaded my X1 full with apps and tweaked a little but it's as fast as after a hard reset

Hi all, I've owned my Mogul for about 3 weeks now and I love it. I reffer to it as my iPone killer. Until 4 days ago I had no complaints. but now it just acts odd. I have to reboot it multiple times a day, even when I've used Oxios and SKTools to periodically clear up RAM. Unfortunately my big problems are thus: when texting, randomly the letters will not appear wile im typing; i have to slide the lid closed then open again to reveal what I've typed. Also applications have suddenly begun to take much longer (30 seconds) to open. I'm talking about things like file explorer. the heavy lode apps I use or have loaded would be the HTC home and slide to unlock (newest hotfixed version). Im confused why this might be happening. I havent changed anything lately and suddenly its just not working.
any insight will be appreciated. thanks!
I been having the same exact problem, programs basically take forever, and the clear text thing too. I have Slide2unlock and htc home too. I am in the process of removing custom stuff one by one as i really dont want to do a hard reset
I haven't used slide2unlock yet, but I can confirm that the htc home plugin definitely slows the phone down. I noticed shortly after installing the home plugin that things just weren't as quick as they used to be. I tested this by doing a hard reset and bypassing sprint customizer to get a fresh, snappy OS. Only installed program was PHM Registry Editor and basic registry speed hacks applied (Glyphcache and FATFS cache) makes it blazing. Then, sure enough, installed htc home and after about an hour it's back to a crawl. This was without the weather tab activated or any customization, just the base installation of the plugin. It sucks, cause the home plugin is sweet, but unfortunately it's not cool enough to put up with so much lag. Hope that helps.
Ok I fiddeled around too much and end of story deleted the settings file in the opera folder Settings.
Well I'd really love to get that file back, or even better the standard shipped opera touch hd version.
Can someone upload or tell me where to get it? Would be awesome.
Buttons are too small and the zoom levels are wrong.
Thanks.

I seem to be getting a messed up opera.
Everytime I open opera, it loads the page correctly in potrait, but then rotate the HD to get a fuller view of the web page that I am browsing, but all the sudden my phone pad opens. It seems that everytime that I am in opera and then I turn the phone sideways, the phone pad opens. How can I stop that? Its so annoying!!!
Previously, I had installed gyrator 2, but this app completely messed up everything, so I've decided uninstalled gyrator 2. Afterwards, I hard reset to make sure I got rid of gyrator 2 and did the usual of sync with my pc, etc.
I have also uninstalled HDtweaks, not sure what good would that be (maybe someone could clarify).
I have installed and customised my HD with:
S2U2-1.35-VGA.cab
1SdkCerts.cab
Colored Top bar WWE.cab
TFL3DIconsV3.cab
CorePlayer. V1.2.5 Build 4506
I noticed S2U2 on your software list... All I know is that S2U2 has Always, on Every phone I have tried it on, screwed something up. Don't get me wrong it is great software and probably not even the cause of your particular problem, but S2U2 has given me very strange and too much annoying problems to rule it out of anything.
The worst thing was lately when I decided to try it on the HD... I just hard reset my HD after having tried a million applications, tweaks, driver changes etc. So a clean start, and since S2U2 was so buggy for me in the past I decided to install it first, to completely rule out that it would perform crap because of any other aftermarket software.
For a little while it worked. Changed some settings, the thing always tended to get confused... so changed the settings to default. Couple of unlocks later... Nice, now I only see the background when I am trying to unlock my phone to make a friggin phone call... The program is called Slide To Unlock and ironically the slider is missing meaning I cannot access my phone. Not a single area on the screen responds, of course. Pressed home key, showing TouchFLO for 100ms before S2U2 takes over again. So in a window of 100ms, I had to press the tasks button on the top right to invoke the close all apps button... crap.
So I decided I'd wait for a more stable version, and tried to uninstall it, lol yes I said tried... On the Diamond, and also on the HD, somehow this has to take like 5 or 10 minutes, for a friggin tiny itsy bitsy <1mb installer package. It just hangs and hangs and you wonder has my phone crashed. Nice. This is just a small pick from the problems I had with the software.
Edit: This is probably not the fault of S2U2, but rather my phone not wanting any iPhone-lookalike software on it
problems still persist with opera. everytime i rotate the HD, it switches to phone pad.
i think as you said it may be a bug with S2U2, im gonna uninstall S2U2.
So far so good....
does anybody have a major problem with hero lagging. It is really annoying. I was wondering if rooting the hero can fix this problem. If not do you guys think the 2.1 update will fix it.
What ROM are you running? What apps do you normally have running in the background? Are you using a Task Killer that automatically kills apps on a set time frame? Have you tried doing a factory reset/wipe to see if it makes a difference? And finally, where do you see the lag the most? Is it in a particular application, or are you judging the "lagginess" based on moving back and forth from your home screens in SenseUI?
Answering ALL of these questions will help us understand what you're seeing a little better. Your question is a little vague, and your answers will probably help you get some more support from folks on here.
Thanks!
My phone was laggy too. I rooted it and put the fresh rom on it and I saw a big improvement in overall performance. Still not as fast as my old iphone 3gs, but I would never go back. I also don't use task manager anymore. It always runs in the background and drains your battery faster.
I was having the same issue.. and I narrowed it down to Handcent(SMS) of all things..
phone was fast until I installed it.. then it ran like a dog.... then I uninstalled handcent and speed it actually usable now..
I would like to see confirmation of this from others as well..

Yeah handcent killed me, made the phone not just a dog, but a wounded dog born with 2 legs. 10x worse than the stock hero app, which is bad.
I'm running handcent, but I haven't noticed any specific slowdowns from it. It can take a while to load the main handcent screen when you have lots and lots of texts in there, but I usually clear them out when I get over 100 or so anyway.
Check to see that you have the most recent version of Handcent. I think I read that there was a performance bug related to their special "with Christmas animations" holiday release (that has since been fixed).
Also, remember to clear the boot-cache directory and reboot after upgrading apps ('rm -r /data/boot-cache/*'; reboot). The Hero has problems with caching apps after upgrades (so you aren't actually running the upgrade version). I have no idea if this was fixed in the newer ROMS. I'm running Fresh and still do it, as it only takes a sec (if you have the android-sdk and root set up).
Turning off HandCent popup notifications resulted in a substantial performance increase for me. Which is good, as I really like the features HC adds (such as voice-to-text).
I had the latest version and it was always cleared out sms wise. and I never used popup notifications.. they were annoying.. and I just got a fresh replacement of the Hero (warrantee) and its still on stock rom and Handcent still killed it.. in one day..
i have not rooted, pure stock phone. only app i think runs in background is email and loopt
I notice the lag from everything to sense UI to the clock taking 2-3 secs to update to my contacts scrolling, to text message lag, to calling even lags. like anything and everything can lag.
It all has to do with this bug in Android 1.5:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3453
I'm running AOSP 1.6 on my Hero right now and it is ridiculously fast.
So yes, I think that the 2.1 update (which hopefully will come out soon) is going to fix these issues for us.
on your location settings turn off "network location" then reboot..your lag will be gone...and make sure you have a task manager installed too and end your apps so they take over your processor
Task managers are a waste of time.

This is very true. I was running the 2.1 build from here the last few days (thought I had to revert due to missing some texts and voicemail) and it's much speedier. It uses the HTC keyboard, but it's much faster in its response, almost instantaneous. The location bug really does suck up a lot of CPU time.
Also, maybe its just me, but I think it's important to remember the kind of device we're using, the hardware involved, and what you're asking it to do. It's not like you're walking around with a quad core CPU and 4GB of RAM in your pocket, but it seems a lot of people think it should respond as if that's what it has. It's a phone, yes, and it should be able to do phone stuff quickly if possible, but look at all it can and is doing. If you need absolute speed, get a dumb phone that can't browse the web, play games, or do just about anything. It'll run just fine.
handcent never made my phone lag. The only thing that made my phone lag was HTC's battery widget. Damn thing slowed my phone down so I uninstalled it and phone is running back fast again. I still use task manager because I do notice once to many apps are open it lags. Don't care what anyone says it happens on my phone. I do have a lot of applications on ignore though.
Try disabling Location services.

I used to wholeheartedly disagree with this statement, until I read a kickass article explaining how Android actively manages memory.
Now, I also agree with this statement 100%. I don't even use my paid task manager app anymore. :/

sorry for off topic, does Android w/ Snapdragon or Android in general have the same problem/s like Windows Mobile does?
All this stuff should be as quick as speeding bullet.
and another question,
what kind of processor do we need to get what we want out of WinMo?
From what I gather it would have to be atleast 2 to 3 ghz. (for it to never stutter.)

im using a hero and an hd2 both freeze up from time to time. if you use Google apps a lot stick with android. if your lazy stick with android. if you have time to always tweak your phone go with winmo. and despite what you read windows has way more apps than android the only problem is most of the apps are 3 or more years old and not being updated anymore so not too finger friendly.
My HD2 (U.S. Tmobile - Stock Rom) runs like lightning, but not for lack of effort (well, not too much effort). I installed BsB Tweaks and Clean Ram, applied the performance tweaks in BsB (there's even one messaging that allows for "classic" style), and make sure to run Clean Ram (level two) once or twice a day. I also make liberal use of the task manager after opening any apps that fail to close with the press of an X (most?). Occasionally I'll notice a bit of slowdown, but Clean Ram will usually cure what ails it. Worst case scenario is I'll need to do a soft reset (which I always do after installing/uninstalling any apps), but, with BsB, it's a breeze as there's a command for it in the menu, so no need to wrangle with the battery cover and poke the red button!
As far as Android goes, I've no clue how it will run on HD2 level hardware, but, seeing as much of the issues with the HD2 seem to revolve around the Sense UI and HTC in particular, I would imagine some of the same issues will crop up. I'm coming over from Android (G1) to WinMo. My G1 had the same issues with messaging (HTC!!!) but, otherwise, didn't require much by way of maintenance. It was just slow and there was nothing I could do about it!
Play around with some of these tools on here. I'm a total WinMo noob, but I gotta say I'm loving the tweakability of the OS, and I'm especially enjoying learning about all of the cool stuff XDA has available for it.
No Lag here
Hey guys, I'm not sure if you guys are managing your opened applications properly... HD2 will keep all the apps you opened in the background running unless you actually closed them... and for most of the apps the only way to close them is to go to taskmanager (start>taskmanager>endtask, see a quicker way to do this below)....
Solution: you need to close the applications that are open!!!!
some tweaks that make this easier
- BsB Tweaks (solves many problems)
- Dutty's Taskmanager (allows you to switch between currently opened apps and also allows you to close them, it puts an icon on the top right corner in the taskbar) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
I'm starting to feel like I been had on the HD2 1GHz SD processor. Sometimes I press the Home Key and all the keys will light up but the screen won't come on. Ill even press the Send Key, End Key or Window Key, nothing. I have to hold down the End Key and the screen will show up in a very slow fade-in sequence. Than I can slide to unlock (which is very slow as well) and the Homescreen will pop up but everything is slow or lagging, even the weather animation.
My friends Droid which is only 500MHz is blazing fast, faster than my HD2, how the hell lol? Also my 2G iPhone at 400MHz is faster too. I wasn't running a stock 8GB iPhone either, it was jail-broken on T-mobile and was filled with nearly 6GB of stuff. I had 3 pages of apps, running a custom Nexus One theme with an RSS weather/news feed on the second page and a Nexus one live wallpaper lock-screen. Although it had its share of slowdown between menus and such, it was faster than this phone.
What can I do to speed up this phone (or get my advertised 1GHz), I mean 1GHz I should be flying through the tabs and screens but it lags almost everywhere, even the keyboard is such a pain when its lagging or because of an incoming message or MMS it downloads. Twitter is soo bad at times, it's frustrating. I don't want to be like everyone else and give up on it already, I really like this phone but what can I do to fix these issues? There needs to be an OS update ASAP, phone is glitchy as hell.
P.S. I'm starting to think T-mobile knows this phone isn't as fast as the processor says, all there ads talk about the size of the screen but never about the (so far) industry leading 1 GHz Snap Dragon Processor. Apple is always showing off how fast the iPhone is.
Sounds like you have a problem with your software- my HD2 works snappy and fine.
The original HTC SMS app has a slowdown issue when you have over about 3000 SMSes in the database, you can use the default Microsoft one (search for "Zenyee disable messaging"). Also for my particular device (T9193 Telstra version) they changed SMS in a ROM update so it isn't so bad any more.
The fastest processor in the world can't overcome software glitches. WiMo 6.5 was never optimized to run snapdragon imo since it was out the door anyway.
This is why the iPhone is so stable. Apple controls the software and hardware, and each are optimized to the max, so a slower processor feels faster.
Your friends Droid basically is doing the same thing, in that, the OS is better optimized to use the 500mhz processor.
Same here. The HD2 is laggy, not all the time, but much of the time. It spoils the whole experience because it's unpredictable. I also found the Droid to be laggy and unresponsive. While playing with it at a Verizon store, I was constantly missing swipes and clicks. Only the iphone has impressed me with consistently reliable responsiveness.
I have had no problems with my HD2.... it's the fastest phone I've ever had. Always fast and snappy. I can play playstation games at full speed, run windows 95 at a good speed. It runs everything I throw at it with ease.
its also the fastest phone i've played with, minus maybe the nexus one. compared to every other non-snapdragon phone, there's virtually no lag anywhere other than when opening applications or something.
all the previous windows phones were super laggy, but i feel like the hd2 just rocks. a couple of iphoners have even said its freakishly smooth during navigation or in opera
I have not really had any lag issues on the phone, only a few when I am taxing it.
The iPhone does not really allow true multitasking and was designed for that hardware. Often times people forget to check task manager and kill applications they dont need running. WM6.5 was not taylored to any hardware so its not quite as snappy but I prefer this greatly over my wifes 3gs
I always get random lag too...I believe its due to WM 6.5
Thats why I'm waiting for WM7 to come out so bad, since it will be optimized for the processor.
Bad slowdowns are due to some software crashing and hogging all resources. Soft reset, and if it repeats just start getting rid of the programs you installed and find the culprit.
exchange it for a new one. sounds like u got a lemmon.
Why are some HD2s laggy ?
Check:
1. free internal RAM (if lots of pics are in the album the cache eats the RAM: move it to storage card)
2. Opera-Cache: move it to SD-card. when cache is full and new sites loaded into cache after ending Opera there is some delay in reaction of HD2 for 1 minute till cache is cleared.
3. See sticky threads to optimize registry
4. Install SKTools and run full background automatic services and after installation of apps "Autoclean". SKTools is really worth it´s prize.
5. Get "Junk Cleaner" (free) and once in a while clean junk
6. Check which mods You have installed (wallpapers, themes etc.) and if You have uninstalled old ones before applying the new ones. You can mess up quite a bit the speed with this.
This WM-device is tempting to install (and then uninstall) apps on the fly leaving a lotta crap in reg and temp-folder which You rarely do on Your PC or Notebook thus slowing down Your HD2. Any other phone would have frozen in the mess the instant but Snapdragon handles it, but slow.
My HD2 is blazing fast (faster than some Netbooks/Notebooks) and more usable than almost all netbooks since I follow the above advice (once again 1000 TX to XDA-pros here, they solved almost all my problems)

It would be nice to know what firmware you're using. My HD2 is extremely fast, it replies instantly on nearly everything.

I have had no such issues with my unit... in fact, it's relatively flawless. The only complaint I have about mine is that I didn't get it sooner...

Exactly the same for me, except for the self-enforced blip with the virus yesterday!
I'm having some problems aswell! And that was even before I started flashing the ROM... Sometimes, it gets so slow that I can't do anything - This happens especially if it has been charged over night. The next day it'll take some time before it reacts (when unlocking) firstly, it takes a lot of time after I press one of the buttons and then secondly the unlock slider can be moved to the side without unlocking.
Sometimes the SMS function just slows down incredibly - It takes a second to respond each letter and it can't keep up with spaces.
I usually close all of my tasks so there is no more than 2-3 running at the time. It just begins to feel so unreliable.
