I love this phone, but opera and ie hvae no flash. Skyfire is good, but doesn't support x1 due to resolution. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks!
try looking for flashlite.3.1 cab file
it works with opera i think but im getting issues with th cache on some java things, says try emptying the cache but i cannot figure out how to do that yet if any one has any help
Thanks I tried that, but flash videos in opera just have vertical lines down them with various colors. Not sure that cab worked.
flash on xperia seems to be a tough nut to crack
Jep, got that same **** here.
Colored vertical lines, that's also what I get with the YouTube player, this is likely because of errors in the rendering. I suspect the Flash Lite we're talking about isn't getting as good alng with Opera Mobile as it should be. Most flash object don't render at all. With some fidling with the zoom in and out button and right mouse (hold slylus down) on a flash object I can sometimes get Opera Mobile to render a block/part of the object or just the controls.
I've been trying to get Flash going for a while. Most solution found on the inets rely on a specific Opera Mini version/build. Pretty much all of those builds however cause conflict with the by default installed Opera Mobile, and you end up with no Opera at all.
I'll be looking (mostly here on XDA, just started reading here, this forum is huge) for a solution that works for the xperia, but it looks like there will have to be a solution custom made for the xperia. That is, for the official ROM. Anyone familiar with a ROM that runs stable on the xperia that has Opera Mobile + Flash Lite baked/cooked in?

My rom included flashlite 3.1 and runs happy w/ the stock Opera (seperate d/l from my thread).
On Opera 9.5, the vertical line on some but not all youtube movies because some are in flash9 format which is not supported by FL3.1. Another solution is install Flashplayer 7 for WM, it works for all youtube movies I tried so far but it's a resources hog causing the playback very choppy.
Thanks, very helpful post. Awesome work you've done on creating a custom flash. Makes me wonder about how much work must have went into that and even more how you did it.
I suppose I better first get informed really well about flashing the ROM before go ahead. From what I've read it's quite risky and you really need to know exactly what you're doing. I've already read some accounts of people who have bricked their devices in a failed attempt to flash the ROM.
How did you get so experienced with working with ROM's? Just trial and error?
Also, perhaps you can explain what the abbreviations CU and CID(unlocked) stand for?

There are a lot of threads about this subject but somehow non of them where able to help me to get embedded Flash in websites.
I've installed the Flash 7 ActiveX plugin, installed Flash Lite. Together and separately. Reboots, instructions from this forum and instructions from Adobe.. nothing seems to help. I use the latest PIE and Opera Mobile 8.65.
When I visit www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/ in PIE I get a message that Flash version 7,0,70,0 is installed but without the embedded Flash element you would expect that says "Adobe Flash Player is installed.", like on a PC. When I visit the same page in Opera I don't get any messages about successful installations.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? If you need more details about somethings; let me know...
First post here... please be kind...
Actually, I've been looking for such a solution myself. Very easy to test my own website (www.LauraBraniganOnline.com) since I have Flash snippets on the top of each page that I purposely coded to read down to Flash 5...
Had an Axim x51v, Flash seemed to work OK... now got rid of that when I got my new AT&T/Cingular Tilt (HTC Kaiser), their latest ROM but hard-resetted and soft-resetted so I don't get AT&T's extra crap... btw doing this works fine for me.
But have Flash Lite 2.1 developer installed, had the Flash 6 installed, now have Flash 7 ActiveX installed, nothing works on any other browser but PIE (believe it or not, have Opera Mobile 8.65, MiniMo, and NetFront all installed).
Being from Philly originally, love to listen to KYW-AM news radio over the Internet, works fine on my laptop, dies on my new Kaiser... assuming that CBS coded their latest player at a Flash level higher than 7.
ANYWAY... what with all that background (are you all still awake... ), I'm wondering if there are any other back-end, side-end or otherwise workarounds to get OTHER browsers than PIE to read at least Flash applets coded for 7 or below... at least until the behemoth that is Adobe decides to actually give the incredibly exploding numbers of Mobile platform users a Flash player that actually works with WM6 and its growing number of non IE browsers. Heck, you'd think if they were so eager to push the Flash technology on everyone on the planet after buying out the much-loved Macromedia (I still use my good-ol' copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver!), that they'd have a mobile solution that actually works for those of us who still think that Microsoft is doing their own mobile users an injustice with a PIE that hasn't changed nearly at all from the old Pocket PC 2002 days...
Sorry for the rant -- spent about 5 days searching for a solution... and either I'm missing it, or it's really hidden... or it just isn't there yet... maybe we haven't bribed Adobe & Microsoft with enough $$$ to actually have them work on this...

I tried to find an answer in the forum, but either it is an obvious question or i did not understand it (i am new to the WM world).
I simply do not see the whole page content, and i can not "click" on some of the visible content, probably because it is flash.
I checked at macro-media site and found there is an application but according to their info it supports only WM5.
Can someone help?
I am using many applications designed for WM 2002 which work just fine. I suggest you to try that one.
Can name few?
Ok. I installed the marcomedia flash support for IE, and works. Yet IE is by far slower than Opera. Is there a solution for Opera?
there is flash lite 3.1 in the development and hacking section of the forums, but i'm not sure if it works for diamond yet. :/
you can try though.
I am having this problem too, for example on Facebook if someone has posted a video that is not hosted on Youtube i cannot veiw it as my browser doesnt support flash. I have had this problem on a lot of web pages that have anysort of video on them even tho i have installed the latest flash.cab on my device is there a work around or is it just something we will have to make do with untill a newer version of opera is released?
Install this cab :

Just wanted to give folks a heads up that new skyfire was released and it finally supports higher resolution. Before I would hedge between skyfire and Opera/IE due to the resolution issues but preferring the speed and support for Flash, etc...now this will eliminate a decision as I believe I'll be using skyfire 100% of the time.
More finger friendly menus were added to. Surprises me after all these yrs MS has not been able to make many improvements to IE Mobile.
On a side note it sounds like Mobile Mozilla browser for WM should be available early 2010. Its initially targeted at Nokia phone with snapdragon processor but will than move to other platforms
Just thought some might be interested in the update for skyfire.
been using it all morning. Very much improved. Especially like the fact it supports higher res phones now.
Sorry for double post
One thing I noticed is it seems to use a lot more RAM...not thrilled about that. Maybe they can address this in a quick update. Anyone else experiencing significant ram usage by the new skyfire?

Thanks for the head's up. I've been hoping for this update for a while now.
It does look good. I'll probably still use Opera for most things though, and this for video.
Yeah thanks for the update, made it my default and overall I love it. Only thing that Opera 10 does better is the rendering, you know the checkerboard pattern that comes up when you scroll around. Opera renders it faster than Skyfire but with that improved I would have no issues with it.
Oh yeah that and no option for default full screen mode. You can switch to it but once you use the menu you have to select fullscreen again
I tried it but the opera that came with the TP2 is better.. The new version STILL doesnt rotate right UNLESS you open the keyboard and it still doesnt use the zoom bar

Opera 10 couldn't uisefully use the zoom bar anyway. Version 9.5 allows variable degrees of zoom, but version 10 only has two levels - zoomed in, and zoomed out. There's nothing in between. So enabling the zoom bar wouldn't actually help.
If you're having problems with the rotation then just use G-Config.

Once installed whether to storage or main, just do a soft rsest and it should auto rotate.
I am still messing around with it. I dont know if I should go ahead and make my default yet. The rendering speed is slower than the stocked Opera but I much favor the built in flash for web videos.
yummy
Loved skyfire from day 1, loving it more now that it supports better resolution. Rendering not as good as Opera, but that's expected for now, built-in flash works great still, but that's the advantage of cloud rendering. Typing works much smoother, wait time between skyfire sending data to server then back to your phone is much better. As far as mem usage goes, I think what they did with 1.5 is move some of the operations to your phone. Before with skyfire it was exclusively being processed on their servers. I think now things like putting in username and passwords are handled by the phone and sent in one swoop vs having to wait after you put in username, then wait after password and such. Also I've noticed that you can easily move from one field to the next. You used to have to re-tap each blank field, now it automatically moves the cursor and you can start filling it in immediately. Definitely a better browser. Maybe number one if they add tabs. I haven't made it default because of that. Unfortunately I'm out of the US so further testing isn't possible at the moment, but once I'm back I'll look at it more. So far the big face of is Opera tabs vs Skyfire built in flash.
Much, much more faster than Opera or IE. Of course the pages don't look as good but they're still good.
This new release inspired me to install Skyfire again -- I hadn't been including it in my "UC" configuration, so hadn't used it in a while as I flash new custom roms.
For me, the great advantage of Skyfire is how well it handles embedded video (and similar content) that other browsers don't handle well or at all. I stream live .wmv video from my backyard-birdfeeder-cam, and even PIE doesn't support this MS-format video -- but Skyfire does.
how can i set skyfire to be my default web browser from the Manilla interface?

What ROM and Manila version do you have?
I have the official 6.5 upgrade for US T-Mobile (Timor version) and it opens Skyfire automatically from the internet tab after using Skyfire's setting to make it default.
There is a Manila file you can edit that will change all the internet tab settings for the T-Mobile stock Manila version I know, because that was how I edited it then.
So I guess it depends on what you're running.

I was having a play with Skyfire 1.5 yestersday. I found it played the video component of Flash videos correctly, but that there's no sound! Has anyone else encountered and fixed this? I'm running the standard HTC version of the WM6.5 ROM.

Try soft reset and re-launch, that worked for me.

It might also help to know which site's flash videos gave you the issue. Not all implementations are created equal.
I notice, on a sort of related note, that on thewb.com, sometimes the video and audio get out of sync. I'm not sure if this is a general skyfire thing or not, but I've always found thewb's flash player to be a little quirky, so I plan to test some other sites this weekend.

Skyfire has a server side and a client side--the browser itself doesn't actually support flash, the server grabs the content, converts it to something skyfire client friendly, and then transmits it to you. Google might be detecting where your skyfire server is instead of where you are.
I know that not being able to view flash in opera browser has been an issue before, but I thought that with the latest version of opera you can? If this is the case why is it when I view certain websites it says I need flash to view it?
Cheers
You need to install Flash Lite and enable plugins in Opera. But I don't recommend you to do that, because the Flash Lite is full of bugs.
If you need flash just use IE instead. Still not perfect but much better.
Skyfire is a good one for embedded video, not quite so finger friendly, but well worth having installed to run along side ie and opera
I've tried both IE and syfire, and not a great fan of either to be honest. I'm guessing I was wrong then and you can't view flash on opera?

No, not by default.
When HTML 5 really takes hold, Flash will dry up and die... I truly hope it will.
With some hacking and some luck you can get flash lite support in Opera Mobile 9.5 and 9.7 versions (not in Opera Mobile 10 yet!). Internet Explorer mobile supports flash lite by default (on recent roms/devices).
The thing is, is that flash lite itself is very slow, buggy, and incomplete. Barely any flash content will work with it.
Adobe should release full Flash 10.1 for Windows Mobile within a few months. When that happens, we will see full and complete Flash in probably all windows mobile browsers.
Skyfire already supports all flash content, but in a different way. Nothing is rendered on your device. All content is downloaded and rendered on their servers, and then compressed forwarded to your phone. When their server is down that means you can't browse the internet on your phone, and that situation happened a few weeks ago in fact. Besides, browsing with skyfire is not nearly as good as with Opera Mobile.
Flash Lite only supports older versions of Flash which are very basic. Streaming and most Flash based games use the newer Flash versions so that's why you always see the non-compatibility.
For older stuff, try the methods listed above. For newer stuff... forget about it.

Lol - sorry mate. Ain't gonna happen.
Has anyone noticed how the Opera browser provided with the HD2 doesn'r reflow text correctly when you zoom in or out on text?
For example go to the bbc.com website and find an article on the main page. Then zoom in. It reflows fine. However if you then go into the actual story from the front page reflow to keep all the cahcracters on the screen rather than you neededing to scoll left to right stops working. Then when you go back to the main page the reflow is still not working?
I have tried this on multiple sites and get the same result ! I also tried another HD2 and the same thing happens.
The iphone and Safari does this without fault. Am I missing something that I need to set or is my experience different to everyone else?
I don't want to use skyfire because it comes with different limitations. Is the later version of Opera (v.10) any better in this respect?
I also notice that there isn't a Opera Mobile 10 for the HD2 !? Anyone know where I can get this?

Here is Opera 10 for the HD2. I don't have a problem with reflow on my device, but then again there are something like 10+ versions of Opera 9.7 floating about.
Have a look here for all the different Opera 9.7 versions, see which works best for you.
*Edit* I use version 35964, it seems to work fine for me.
Its dependant on which build your using......
the one on the t mobile stock rom was perfect.....
I just tried a cleanex rom and opera was not as slick as I was used to....
Im off to try an energy rom and see what thats like.......
Thanks for the information. I have a standard HTC rom and the phone is from the UK.
ROM version 1.66.405.2
Radio version 2.06.51.07
Opera Mobile version 9.7 Build 35627
I'll try downloading the latest version of Opera 10. Thanks.
Just one last thing. I updated my version of Opera so it could play flash with the Flash. Will this install put in an additional version of opera or overwrite the current one?
Does this version natively support Flash?

It will overwrite the version you have installed. I should think it plays flash, I am not certain as I don't use flash on my HD2 (I assume you mean 9.7), Opera 10 supports it natively for sure.
Thanks for the answers, I have just loaded version 10. Forgive the noob questions....
OMG, It doesn't have pinch to zoom !!!!!!!!!!! Reflow doesn't work because it is set to a double tap zoom and the text seems to left justify too much so the text is cut in half and you have to scroll over to the left! And the Zoom is way to high. I know you can set it to certain zoom levels but its one zoom in and one zoom out. Thats not very good in my book.
Also the settings available seem far less than there were with 9.7.
Also is there any way to change the default search engine from google?
Lastly, is there any way to set vibrate to happen when you click on a link.
I also went to youtube and it doesn't seem to play flash
Not sure I think version 10 is an improvement at the moment. Is there a thread somwhere that talks about opera 10 on xda?
Its pure personal preference, I tried 10 and didnt like it, mainly due to pinch to zoom and reflow......... the flash is tempremental... I got youtube working but other flash content didnt........
Theres no harm in having both 10 and 9.7........
In this case you can have your cake and eat it..........
For flash I'd reccomend skyfire........its quite slow and the ui is ugly and dated but it works 95% of the time as far as flash is concerned......... again though its all down to personal preference...........
