Touch HD in vegas. . . - Touch HD General

Yea, I am looking around the internet and I am wondering where is the best place to get one?
Also, how are edge speeds with it? Vegas has a solid 3G network, but I am wondering how is edge on it?
Hmm, any local Vegans' have any incite? Thanks.
I want this phone so bad, the LG Shine is crap. . .

http://www.phonesource-usa.com/
I've purchased from them in the past so I recommend them. They don't have the HD listed on their site but I'd bet they'll get it for you as they've done that for me in the past. Also, they let me pick up the phone I purchased.

Hmm, what about the reception question?

Check out clove technology. I was watching the HD review on pocketnow.com and they mentioned buying one from them. I live in Texas and have been in contact with them. I am really REALLY wanting this phone and am willing to jump ship to t-mobile, just to use this phone.......sprint is starting to lag behind in the phone selection, figuring as though i have the Vogue, had the Diamond, and own the Touch Pro.

(Texan here) i also purchased from Clove Technology...if they have it in stock and you order on Monday, you'll have it no later than Friday. might arrive sooner if it's not held in customs; be sure to ask Clove to include the FCC ID number on the customs form and it should clear customs the same day it arrives in the US.

Ok, thanks. I wont have this little puppy for a while since I need to congure up the money. . .lol. . .
800 bucks, how long can that take?

in vegas, it shouldn't take long to conjure up $800. in fact, the returns on my weekend college football investments funded my HD purchase!

I'm 15. . .lmao. . .
GAh. . .

dang cortez I need to get with you lol on what you be doing I wouldn't mind finding a way to fund my HD mowing yards down here in my part of texas sucks lol

Ok, actually getting the HD aside:
How good is it in vegas?

lol... keep in mind that i've had a few 0-based and negative returns from my "investments" as well. best time of year for my investments is in the next few weeks. know of any new toys on the horizon? anyone?

its all good man you win some you loose some...im still interested though lol. have you seen the new HTC 4g?

Edge and HSDPA coverage are both good in vegas. I rarely have a dropped call. You should have good edge coverage anywhere you go. No 3g with the HD but I used it for a week in vegas before I switched to the xperia and had excellent edge coverage.
I switched because, for me, the lack of HSPA was taking a big step backwards and the xperia fit in my pocket better. The screen is physically smaller on the xperia but the resolution is the same and running TF3D is just as snappy.

Best place to get it for US residents?

Hey all,
so for those of in the US what is the best place to get it? Are there any shops that sell it already, or is it only out in Europe?
And if so, which is the cheapest but still reliable website to order it from?
Thanks.
I think im ready
Im also looking to buy a Touch HD here in the USA. Ive seen a few sites but dont want to get ripped off. Also I'm goint to to sell my USA 3g diamond if anyone is looking.
i got mine from clove technologies for $760 shipped. That was even shipped via DHL 2 day service. Works great. love this device!!!
Expansys USA apparently now has stock. I think the price is $799US.
I ordered from Clove as well. I've used them in the past and they are top notch. Even with 2 day shipping it was cheaper than ordering from Expansys USA without shipping.

did you order last week? i too ordered from Clove, but no word yet whether my order will be fulfilled with this week's stock. also, are you on att? if so, aside from the lack of 3G, are all the other services working well with the Touch HD?
Ordered from Expansys this morning. Just got my email that they shipped it out an hour ago.

Yes, it was ordered Friday morning and I have a fedex tracking number. I should have it on Wednesday. It was delayed a day for their validation process for international orders. I had a different credit card and shipping address from my previous orders so it was delayed for verification.
I am on ATT and everything else has worked fine with past touch devices. Getting to the medianet homepage can sometimes be an issue, but I never use it anyway so it's not a loss for me. Other than that everything works fine.

You man slow Edge speeds? The Touch HD doesn't have US 3G.
yes i know of a store in new york city, i spoke to them on the phone two weeks ago they told me they will be selling it as soon as touch hd will be released by any European carrier, witch already has happened.
the price they told me is $800.00 they also have a website, but i dont know what is it, but u guys can give them a call 212-964-4444
but be ware, NYC especially Manhattan has a lot of cell phone stores whitch sell bootleg versions. most of the tourists dont know and just buy
but anyways anybody who checks it out keep me updated, i would like to know if anybody buys it from them, cause i wanna get one also in a few months.
guys how slow will the internet be on it with out 3g? is it still worth it?

I just tested the Edge speed (w/ 4 bars) on my iPhone 2G and got 154kbps. I'd imagine that the HD would be similar.
In case anyone is interested, Clove UK seems to have brought down their price to $693. I'm probably going to go with that deal...

it will be slower than 3G no doubt, but it's an acceptable trade off for me (now). i may change my mind once i get the device.
however, thanks to the University of Iowa defeating Penn State (in football) this past weekend (and the corresponding return on my wager/investment) the lack of 3G is of less concern. in other words, the windfall from that game (and the "windfall's" capacity to finance 100% of the HD cost) makes it easier for me to rationalize that lack of 3G. i can cave into my insatiable desire to have a big a** WinMo VGA screen device, a.k.a, Touch HD.

lol, earlier this year, the NY Giants winning the SuperBowl financed my Orbit 2 purchase. i'm usually good for 3 to 5 winning weekends during the 20 week season (sept to jan) and the timing of and "windfall" from this "win" couldn't be better. now i'll have to lay low until the BCS games and Superbowl so i don't give it all back, lol. windfalls such as mine make it easier to explain to wifey the quarterly appearance of a new device.
Hmm... so I checked out the touch pro/fuze today and wasn't really that impressed with the thickness. I'm given some thought to purchasing the HD from overseas, and so far from reading the forums I'm taking I won't get 3G speed (which I can live without) -
These are unlocked, so I just drop my sim card in? I have AT&T MediaMax bundle that I used with my 3125, I'm trying to avoid my plan being bumped up to their more expensive PDA plans...

The lament over HD in US...

I realize I'll do nothing but create clutter with this post.... but I am doing it anyway
I've looked at everything out there (in the US)... Diamond, Touch Pro, upcoming Omnia (at Verizon), even thought about Xperia... Nothing comes close to HD, in my mind. But buying it without network discounts and giving up 3G is crazy too.
I am completely bummed out about it. HTC, damn you! Why hasn't someone else stepped up to make phone like this that works in the US. High-res screen, high-res camera, thin, with screen of at least 3.5"? Ya know, so you can actually thumb-type without the hardware keyboard? Even if you have fingers that are bigger than a 7-year-old's? Like a normal person...
All this can make someone go old-school BlackBerry... and they don't have a cure for that...

for you, giving up network discounts and 3G is crazy. for me, those 2 criteria are low on my list. i view it more as a tradeoff/investment to get what i want (not what i need, lol). i used 1 subsidized device in that past 4 years; everything else was/is unsubsidized. my experience suggests that unlocked/unsubsidized devices sale faster and at higher prices. anyway, i resale my phones via ebay and use the proceeds to fund some or all of the cost of my next device. i must admit that i've been fortunate enough to also fund my tech habit via dividends from sporting "investments". we all have our addictions, vices, etc. unfortunately, the phone addiction can be an expensive one.

i agree with you 100%! my suspicions are that contractual agreements between htc and at&t and at&t and "the fruit company" have something to do with the HD not coming to the US. at&t is the only GSM carrier with an extended 3G footprint and bringing the HD to at&t would directly compete against the fruity phone. the fruit company wouldn't like that, lol. now that still doesn't explain why the HD is missing the us 3G bands...this could be due to technical reasons.

with the improved sensitivity of the HD, one-handed or two-handed thumb typing is better than i expected. there's always room for improvement, but it works very well for me.

tried the crackberry drug once and had major withdrawal issues, lol. for me, it's not a viable substitute.
Feeding the addiction, eh? I'd actually live without 3G -- I keep my Kaiser on Edge most of the time anyway, if only it was cheaper. I am just surprised this is the only phone either than the fruity company's youPhone that has a touchscreen >= 3.5" (HTC Universal excluded). Bastardos... the lot of'em.
Answer me this...
I couldn't hold out anymore and I ordered one from the Uk. Now everyday I'm thinking of sekking it for a AT&T Fuze to get 3G back, but this is what I don't get. I had a Polaris, which as far as I know never was released on a carrier here; yet it still ran US 3G. WHY DON"T THEY DO THAT WITH THIS THING!!?

so, if you're selling to get 3G, you must be using 3G extensively everyday? true? if yes, and i was in your shoes, i would have passed on the HD. regarding the 3G bands, well, marketing decisions by someone led them to exclude the 3G bands on the HD. the market has changed (for whatever reaason) since the Polaris was relased. the first evidence of that was the release of the Diamond without 3G. we're just small pawns in the game...
3G remorse
Yes, I lived in Orlando and now NY where both had great 3G almost all times. I am constantly checking the internet on pricing items and looking at emails. I hate to admit this too, but the Iphone 3G was pretty functional for me. I just hate Mac everything so i got rid of it. I just love the screen on the HD though! I think I'm buying a Polaris tomorrow.
Man, if i could get this phone, i could care less about 3G lol. I am with sprint, but am willing to ORDER THIS PHONE FROM ACROSS THE POND, have it shipped over here and getting an At&t plan or something and using the sim card in this phone.....just to have this phone. Knowing me......i will probably buy this phone, a good friend of mine ordered it and had it shipped to him the other day. I am going to visit him for the holidays and will finally FINALLY get some hands on with this bad A** phone.

I went through the exact thoughts after getting my omnia. I lacked the willpower to hold off for the HD. After having having the omnia two weeks I broke the piggy(again) to get the HD.
I'm with US t-mo, limiting my 3G options to the G1, which does does not impress. I'm satisfied with 2G and WiFi.
Ultimately, I'm extremely happy with the beautiful screen and build quality.
By the way, anyone want to buy a slightly used omnia....CHEAP!

Am i missing something, i live in right behind a t-mobile store, what did you do to get your plan onto the HD and get it running? PM ME IF NEED BE

It's a GSM phone, so if it's not locked it will work on any GSM network -- that's AT&T and T-mo in the US.
Ok, so lets say that you can get this phone unlocked here in the U.S. And sign up with T-mobile with one of their plans, could you just switch out the sim card from the phone you get into this phone? Im really interested in getting this phone and am willing to open up a contract with either T-MOBILE or At&t. Im not a big talker but am a big texter. I was looking into the basic myfaves plan but was wondering if you could use the pay-as-you-go plans with this phone also. Any one have any suggestions?

Experiences with Evo/Sprint?

I've been getting fed up with T-Mobile lately, the coverage at my house is limited, if not non-existent.
I was wondering if anyone would care to share their experiences with Sprint's network (4g speeds/coverage, reliability, etc). Also, experiences with the Evo itself (battery life, durabilty, accessory quality/quantity, etc)
I'm currently using a Nexus One, if that makes a difference.
Thanks!
Seems like your biggest issue is your coverage at your house. Best advice I can give you is go get an EVO, go home, check to see if you have good signal and 4G.
U can download map viewer from the market check the Sprint 4g coverage
And as for battery life it was not until I rooted that I felt I was getting the most out of it my battery life dramatically changed
And I've had nothing but a good experience I came from a moment so honestly tht was not the best Android experience so this phone have to say im really surprised by this device and what it can do if u have played around with one it really is not the same as owning it and since Sprint has the 3o day money back guarantee u should defin try itout and see if its for u

Punctuation is so overrated these days.
You will love an Evo, Sprint is a great company and the customer service has come a long way.
Try it for 30 days free, if not satisfied then return it, (yes you can root it and still return it)

Sprint actually has pretty good coverage in the San Francisco area. It's really hard to build new towers there nowadays so younger networks (T-Mobile) or older networks that are now overloaded (AT&T) have a really tough time working well there.
I suggest you take advantage of Sprint's 30-day unconditional return policy and test drive the EVO 4G for a few weeks. If you don't like it, or it doesn't work well for you, you can return the device and pay nothing (no restock fee or prorated usage fee, or anything).
Reiterating what others have said, signal in your home/area is going to vary, and your best bet is to try it out.
Sometimes while you are in the 30 day window, if you try to cancel due to lack of signal in your home the store will offer the signal booster thingy (I can't remember the name) and wave the monthly fee. It connects to your router and essentially gives you a tower in your home over the internet.
As for the EVO, I've had a Hero and a T-Mobile G1, and I love the EVO. It does everything I want, and then some. Rooting is key though, and I think the best battery life comes from the custom roms on these forums.
Give it a go for 30 days without canceling your T-Mobile phone. At the worst, you'll pay for a month of service on both lines. Once you test it out though and determine Sprint is the way to go, you can transfer your number from T-Mobile.
Oh, and 4G sucks the battery from your phone, so it's really rather useless in my opinion, unless you're tethering and plugged in, otherwise it's as good as a cable connection.

This map is crap. The map indicates that I have excellent coverage at home and work and is not so. Do what tgruendler said. Get the phone, take it home and test it and see what you think.
When I first got my Evo a lot of people I knew were saying "it's a nice phone and all, but you had to go to SPRINT?"
Now the Evo also marks my maiden voyage with Sprint, so I don't know the history that may have gotten them this bad rep ... but I have to say I've been nothing but pleased. I bought my phone a mere 2 weeks before my road trip across 4 states in 3 weeks (started in Georgia and ended up in Washington DC). During the ENTIRE road trip I had signal. Now I didn't call people, but I did use google maps and Nav and I maintained data the entire time (some minor blackouts in Mentone Alabama looking for an old friend's wedding ... but if you saw where I was you'd completely understand too ... and GMaps still got me there fine).
So while during this trip I saw 4G go up and down ... I will say their data was consistent. I uploaded photos to facebook nightly, took pictures all day, and even occasionally handed the phone to the kids to stream you tube videos (OK I had to plug in for that ... phone can't handle 4-6 hours straight youtube).
My only complaint with this phone while on 2.1 an touring ... was that 4G would destroy my phone (only when connected ... 4G seemed to idle fine in areas with no coverage). By destroy i mean that doing the same heavy uploading of images would kill the phone in about 4 hours.
Now back in the home land of LA ... vacation is over and I'm making more calls than you tube videos. In this case it's more of a Sprint vs ATT conversation (my old provider) and I have to say: Sprints coverage blows away ATT in all areas here. I consult .... meaning i travel all corners of the southland. While Sprint may have bad signal reception occasionally ... it _never_ disconnects. In contrast my ATT signal was always clear .... when it bothered to connect and would disconnect _constantly_ even when driving down major highways. So I like the Sprint service much better.
My Phone has "evolved" with me which is huge. 4G is now here where I live ... but I've also learned to root and tweak my EVO ... and I leave 4G on all day now and can make it from wake up to home with the wife and kids on one charge without having to plug in (I do tend to car charge every so often if i know I'm going to be on a long conference call or can't resist flashing a new ROM during my lunch break ... but that's not suprising). Between 2.2 improvements and wonderful after market ROMs and tweaks, the EVO isn't nearly as bad of a battery vacuum as it was when I first got it so it's to the point that I just leave all the features enabled (except wifi ... i don't see a point when 4g is faster than _any_ free wifi spot that is always over congested).
The ONLY thing I really don't like about Sprint is that i don't get voice and data at the same time. 4G fixes that (another reason i leave it on all the time)... but it's coverage is honestly spotty ... unlike Sprint 3G this one really is location sensitive.
The phone itself ... is awesome. I just can't complain as it still feels cutting edge after 6 months of having it (or is it 7 now ... i forget).
Summary: the battery used to be BAD with 4g turned on. 2.2 improvements and a good community changed all of that... and the phone is flexible and powerful enough that I don't care what's been released sense. I would love a longer battery life (who wouldn't), but considering I basically have a PC in my Pocket I'm OK with that trade off.
EDIT: one other negative I should note: I noticed with the stock HTC ROM having 4G turned on would occasionally make the whole phone stutter and lag, even when doing trivial things like scrolling between home screens. It would actually made the phone feel slower with 4g turned on if i wasn't directly doing a data intesive task. Custom ROMs _completely_ solved that problem. For the record i currently use Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS4 on the HTC17 kernel with the battery tweak, and all sense ripped out I could get away with (rosie pulled out compeltely, gingerbread keyboard, etc), and those stutters are a thing of the past.
Fantastic phone! Great network. Sprint is working hard to improve the quality of their customer service and doing a good job. They have already rolled out WiMax, so if you are in a coverage area you should be getting some pretty snappy speeds there. I also like the fact that Sprint isn't afraid to look at other technologies. I read an article the other day indicating that Sprint will probably begin developing an LTE network to work alongside the WiMax. All things considered, I would definitely recommend the Evo and Sprint

Not having a signal at home isn't an issue if you're with Sprint. When my wife and I moved into our new house back in May, we found out a little too late that our house was in a dead zone and there was absolutely no signal inside on any carrier. We had to step outside to make a call or send a text. After a couple months, I called Sprint and told them what was up. Without question, they offered me a free Airave. No equipment cost, no monthly charges. All they asked was that I send it back to them if I ever leave Sprint in the future. We both get full signal in every room of the house now.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised. I didn't have to beg, argue, or demand anything. As soon as I told them what was up, the dude just asked if it would be okay if they sent me one for free. Uh... yeah, that's okay with me! lol
I'm in an area far from 4G coverage (Southern Illinois) but after 10 years with Sprint I've been nothing but pleased. I've gotten free upgrades, free features, and all sorts of perks from some very helpful customer service people. On top of that I've never had a billing issue (unlike nearly everyone else I know on a certain other network). The only issue I have is I don't particularly care for their website, but that's just me.
As for the EVO, I upgrade from the Hero two weeks ago and I LOVE it. I definitely don't regret getting it.
Oh, another thing I like about Sprint: When I call customer service, 9 times out of 10 I'm connected to somebody in CONUS and not someone with English as a 3rd language. lol

wow! one year with sprint! :)

so I log in to check my bill at sprint.com, wanted to browse as i am looking for another phone to play with.. LOl
it's been a year, got my deposit back! wahoot!
seeing a little credit in there is nice, I have to say form all the stories i have heard about sprint being on these boards for almost a year, I have had a pleasurable experience with them, the financing department is first class, had some billing issues with them and they were as pleasant as can be. I do feel their service can be better in their stores, as My trusty evo's charging port let go back in november, and i had some rough spots tryin to get sprint to help me, so i went to htc and they resolved my issue no problems, so in a nutshell i am a happy customer!
now, do i want a design4g, epic4g touch, or photon4g? LOL
Totally agree with you. I have had a very pleasant experience with Sprint as well. Had a couple small billing issues that were fixed very quickly and drop less calls now than with Verizon. I used Verizon for 9 years but the cost was getting out of control. So far over the last 20 months, I have saved $2256 by switching. Total win
Sprint is great for the price. Just wait til network vision rolls out and coverage increases.

hah +1 for sprint gotta admit cept i just moved and i have ZERO coverage
note its northern wisconsin so i shouldnt expect to much i wish my evo had a unlocked sim slot i'd just grab a voice plan from att (closest tower is across the bay and its att of course)

I have been itching for the epic touch 4g....
Grats! I remember when I got my deposit back...was stoked to have 2 free months of service basically. As far as upgrading your phone I would hold off on that. I just recently purchased the EVO 4G because I really wasn't too impressed with the newer phones. Granted they are better than the EVO but just slightly which to me isn't worth either the upgrade credit or the extra cash. Wait for some more ICS phones and then upgrade....i'm betting Samsung and HTC will come out with something great.

Which part of northern Wisconsin? I use to live in a small town(Miladore) twenty minutes north of Stevens Point.
@brad check out the epic touch 4G thats what I'm looking at haha. My one year with Sprint is coming up April 15th. I know I'm not elgible for an upgrade but I figure ill treat myself anyway haha.

right outside of bayfield wisconson hmmm hour east of superior beaaaautiful up here and no computer repair business so here i am
I agree, I have had a pleasurable experience with them, their service is excellent.
Brad, I would wait until MWC. I am having the same debate, I am going to wait for my 2 years to officially upgrade but if I get the chance to try a different handset I will. My wife needs a replacement EVO but I am kind of hoping they wont have one and we will have to get something else... we will see. But HTC is going to be launching something BIG this year!
I'm waiting it out too. Galaxy Nexus, sure it has LTE but it is last year's technology. I have very high hopes for MWC and shall be revealed there.
Out of Design, Photon, or Epic Touch?
Design has basically no development community. Smaller screen, and single core just doesn't cut it for me.
Photon has Motoblur and it is a worldphone, if you're into that kind of thing. It has a small but quality development community, jokersax has put out some good stuff for them. Unlocking the bootloader borks 4G. You can relock to fix 4G, and you can't relock with custom kernels.
Epic Touch used to have Loss of Signal, which was an absolute pain. It is pretty much gone now. Took a while to get AOSP on it, but they have accomplished. They have the strongest development community out of the three. I think it is BML but I'm not sure. If it is, hopefully they will be able to convert it to MTD sometime in the near future.
OR wait
i can never wait for my upgrade i have about 4 months til my contract is up ... sadly i maybe switching to the evil empire (at&t) :/
thanks guys! think im gonna wait, love my evo to death, and i just got a kindle fire so i got a new device to hold me over haha!
you guys are the best

Hahaha I know that feeling all too well. I dropped my LG Optimus S a few months back and the screen just stopped working and I remember hoping I wouldn't be able to fix it so that I would be forced to get a new phone
I was a year and 6 months with sprint when they cancel my contact, for data usage when I was on unlimited data plan. Don't be, glad be sad haa ha

Have you considered calling them and letting them know that you have no service at your house. I was having the same problem as I live in a small town in southern california and they sent me a free airave. Granted its not the best solution in the world but it will provide you with coverage in your home as long as you have high speed internet.
I've had a few minor ups and down with Sprint as far as billing went, but next to nil issues with repairs or phone service. I wish it was my first year again. I've been with Sprint for close to a decade now.
As far as a new phone goes, I'm with one of the previous posters. There's yet to been a phone released that has made me want to make the switch. Especially due to many of the awesome ROMS that been developed for our phones in the past year or so. In some cases, it's literally like having a new phone every few months. lol

yes i have considered that but atm with google voice intergration i can still text fine over wifi so im content on waiting a little til i have more concrete plans and my internets its through phone company (it was through my cable in my previous town so i just hooked up a land line and/or use skype) thanks for the suggestion.
and my ex got the airave since it was tied to her plan damnit
I've been with Sprint since '99... And I've definitely had my ups and downs. Overall I'm very happy with my plan, unlimited, my Airave at no charge to boost signal at the house and my E4G that has a very mature development community... But I'm really hoping to see some quad core hotness released in the next few months...

Nexus 6P for my Son B'day.

Hello,
I am an old guy, so please excuse me, I don't have much idea about the latest technologies.
Recently, I bought Nexus 6P for my son's B'day from Amazon.com. I only knew that phone has to be unlocked to worked internationally,aAnd my son lives in India.
Now, I bought Nexus 6P Silver, 128GB Unlocked (I will put the Amazon link at the bottom), and one of my neighbor's son was telling that the LTE or 4G and 3G might not work in India, because of Frequencies are different in India and stuff. He was saying that the Nexus 128GB US Version is different or something. All I know is, he uses Vodafone in India and I guess he use internet, but I am not sure if he uses 4G or 3G or something else.
That neighbor's son ask me to ask here because people here are knowledgeable (except me, haha) , who can guide me.
I already bought the phone and I will be leaving for India around 1st June. Let me please know, what you all think.

I have also asked the same question on reddit too.
Thank you, all.!
Sorry, wrong thread!

Hi old guy,
You can use willmyphonework.net which is pretty good for checking this type of information.
Seems your son will not be able to use 4GLTE on either the GLobal or the Nth AMerica version using that network? But, He'll be able to use 2G and 3G no worries according to the site. Awesome phone, I would have thought he'd be well chuffed if he's into tech. If he's not, maybe the Samsung would have been better.
According to that site It works for 4G on idea cellular, maybe on Reliance Jio.
Cheers.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
That's what I saw that only Idea will work in India. But what about Reliance Jio, Relaince Jio is not released yet and there is no information about frequencies. I think he will be happy with 3G, he was previously having Nexus 5 and he's keep complaining about the low space. That's why I grabbed 128GB. And yes, he loves tech, he is studying computer science, so I guess.
I am not sure if I can return the Phone back to Amazon, as I already bought it. So I guess let it be, I hope 4G LTE will not make that huge difference. What you think.
Edit: And Good Lord! This phone is huge. I mean it is not completing getting inside my pocket. Will there be any risk of it getting bending or probably break in two like that ?
Edit 2: And I would love you can suggest me a good shockproof case for 6P if you already own this device. I don't want him asking more money rolleyes if he drops it. And is screen protector required ? (Sorry for so many edits). Thanks.

Yep. They're big. Once you go big, you find it difficult to go back as they are just more compelling to view. Don't do anything stupid with it, and it won't break in two.
I truly hope your son loses his **** in happiness and has a great birthday surprise, but you might consider going about tech presents differently next time. Tech heads put in a lot of research into the exact and most suitable phone for their individual and particular situation. I'll let my wife buy me anything else... You should see some of the dumbass stuff she's dressed me in over the years. But I ask strongly for her to never buy me tech without checking first. Anyway, tech sort of keeps us awake at night. If you're not going back anytime soon, you should investigate buying one of the new live covers from Google itself. I have one coming from a Stateside relative of my current city of abode. Awesomeness!

The Live Cases are very good looking, but I doubt they can take a good impact. I use a Spigen Rugged Armor case (link here). Spigen cases in general are excellent at absorbing impact while also looking decent at the same time. I also use a tempered glass screen protector by @intelliARMOR (link here). This screen protector is even beyond awesome. The oleophobic is terrific and feels even better than stock screen. And it's tempered glass too so you don't have to worry about impacts or scratches.

Hey,

It's so much confusing.

Trust me on this, no one would be happy with a 3G phone. 6P packs a 5.7incher and assuming that your son would use the phone avidly, it would hardly give 3-4hrs screen on time. I highly suggest you to return it.
PS: How old is your son? I won't advice this phone for teens.

He is 22. And what I have seen, 4G is still not very much available in India. 4G is available in main cities, but when you travel to less popular city, it will turn to 3G. Only Airtel and Vodafone is offering 4G till now and that too, it is not country wide.
I am just confused and wanted to know, if 3G will work.

One manual way to check is to look at several carriers in India and see if you can find out what band they support. You need both the band number and the frequency to know if the phone supports that specific band. It's a bit tedious, but will give you a definite answer.
