Hi there
I have 4 issues with my beloved Qtek 2020 (aka MDA 2 / XDA 2) and the new Sandisk 256 MB / WiFi card and I was wondering if someone has experienced similar issues.
I start with the least important one:
1. Installation program: When choosing language the program shows "mouseover error" (I used TAB-Keys to make it work), the installation in German is not possible (the files simply don't exist). I installed english version, everything as expected and fine. Finished with soft reset.
2. No connection to accesspoint what-so-ever, allthough the AP works fine with the other devices I use. Wireless radio is turned on, however the connection indicator is flashing. When I try to access Utility software via settings/connections/ I get message "Wi-Fi Settings: Unable to connect to the wireless NetCard. Is it inserted?" (yes, it is: the indicator is flashing)
Using the status icon on the home-screen I get access to the utility software. Here what it shows on the tabs:
Network Status Tab: Everything grey and zero, no luck with rescan.
Advanced Tab: Tried all Power Save Modes and (just "for fun") all 802.11b Preamble Modes: No joy !!!
Funny Thing on the About Tab: Driver Version and date unknown. However: the driver version 3.01.04.3.0037 was shown during the installation process. F/W Version (what's this?) also unknown, Serial Number shows blank.
3. Tapping the AP Browser Tab is causing a crash of PDA. Only way to get the machine running again is to soft reset. Quite annoying !!!
4. Last but not least: I appear to be unable to access 256MB. Sometimes it is asking me to format the drive, but whatever I do (yes/no) no progress ...
What did I try: I downloaded drivers from SanDisk support pages and tried to update the existing ones but no improvements.
Anybody an idea? I had a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=10338 where compatibility issues with DLink WLan Routers are discussed. Might that be an issue?
In another forum, someone installed the pocketpc 2002 driver and the wi-fi worked. But he still couldn't access the 256 Mo.
Another article told that the sdio port of the 2020 is not as sdio as someone shall expect.
SanDisk is admitting that it doesn't work
There is quite a thread on this issue here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=10079
as far as I understand this thread SanDisk is admitting in various responses to individual users that their Sandisk 256MB + WiFi SD doesn't work with Qtek 2020 / XDAII / MDAII, allthough it is on their compatability list.
The postings in regards to this problems begin 21. Juli which is pretty much the time when those cards were made available in Europe.
I'm very disappointed and I will try to get my money back ...
The market reacts
Now the salespeople have acknowledged the problem, too.

A little bit to late for me :-(
i got done too
I also bought one of these cards from LOGITEX computing in the UK - based on the compatability charts on their website.
They are refusing to accept it being returned.
Learn from my mistake and avoid dealing with these people.

I dont understand. Are they using 3G connection to navigate?
'cause in Canada the Touch Dual is a Niki400, not a Niki100
i believe it has a different rf chip and an antenna for gps
I will check this!!!
GPS isnt GPS ... if it use A-GPS then its possible to enable of Niki and Neon too. But Prove of concept only work with a picture of the main board with all antennas inside!
It is a real GPS and I use it with different applications. One of them can identfy and show the number of satellites available.
Damn it's cdma... no GSM

What applications do you use?
Activate GPS on HTC Touch Dual (Bell Moblility NEON400)
Is there built in GPS in HTC Touch Dual from Bell Mobility? No you say? Think again!!
CNET ASIA was probably talking about the GSM version of the HTC Touch Dual, however the HTC website also makes no mention of this capability.

ROM Date: 07/26/08

HOW TO ACTIVATE GOOGLE MAPS ON YOUR BELL MOBILITY 1XEV HTC TOUCH DUAL and USE THE BUILT IN GPS
================================================== ===========================
1) Enable the GPS: START:SETTINGSERSONALHONE:SERVICES:LOCATION SETTING:GET SETTINGS:ON
2) Install Microsoft Active Sync (From the CD that came with the phone) and configure as follows:
FILE:CONNECTION SETTINGS:ALLOW USB CONNECTIONS=>CHECK/ (yes)
THIS COMPUTER IS CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET/ (yes)
OPEN ACTIVE SYNC WHEN MY DEVICE CONNECTS/ (yes)
ALLOW WIRELESS CONNECTION ON DEVICE WHEN CONNECTED To DESKTOP => UNCHECK (in other words, no. Big money saving tip here)
3) Connect the Touch Dual to the PC using the USB Data Cable and let it be installed by Windows (e.g. Allow USB enumeration sequence to complete)
4) START:SETTINGS:CONNECTIONS:USB TO PC:ACTIVE SYNC:ENABLE ADVANCED NETWORK => UNCHECK
5) START:INTERNET EXPLORER => m.google.com/maps (click on download link)
6) Download and install Google Maps (hint select "open" after selecting to download Google maps)
7) Get out in the open sky, or at least on the top floor of your house but keep the laptop connected to the HTC Touch Dual for now (and also keep it connected to the internet)
8) START:SETTINGS:SYSTEM:EXTERNAL GPSROGRAMS:GPS PROGRAM PORT:COM 3 4800
9) START:SETTINGS:SYSTEM:EXTERNAL GPS:HARDWARE:GPS HARDWARE PORT:NONE
10) START:SETTINGS:SYSTEM:EXTERNAL GPS:ACESS:Manage GPS Automatically => CHECKED
11) In Google Maps: MENU:USE GPS also MENU:OPTIONS:GPS SETTINGS:COM 3 4800
You will see Google Maps get a global position lock, and plot your position on the map. VERY COOL!!!!
Now you can disconnect from the USB Cable and the map will update automatically as you move around (Using your wireless data connection of course - cha ching!)
Handy tips:
a) Instead of downloading the CAB files to your smart phone which is a PITA to type the URLs, instead download them to your laptop then use the file explorer in Active Sync to drop them into your "My Documents" folder on the phone. Then double click from the phone on the CAB file to install it.
b) Don't forget to delete the CAB file from My Documents after the install to free up precious room.
c) Possibly avoid applications that require you to update dotNET framework. It is humungaloid and updating it might mess up your ROM. Install them and if they complain about dot net uninstall them. (IMHO, your mileage may vary)
d) TurboGPS is a good app for checking if the GPS is working and seeing the satellites in real time and space, and also for recording your track and making KML files to put into Google Earth later:
www.turboirc.com/tgps/
e) This seems to be an excellent website for application software for this and related (by OS) SmartPhones. For example here is a search of that site for GPS apps sorted by rating:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-gps-1-rating.html
Oh baby...oh baby...oh baby...oh
Using GPS as in the last post, ISN'T using GPS. Google maps is one of the only apps that triangulates your "approximate" position through your wireless connection. The app has to support that function though based on where you are as not every tower has the necessary hardware to provide the needed information to the Google application. I haven't seen anyone satisfactoraly describe what a-GPS is so... it means that whether there is an internal or external GPS radio, the GPS positioning is "assisted" by the phone being triangulated through the network/towers. It only really comes into play when GPS signal is very weak (and is almost always transparent to the user). The overseas Dual (Niki 100) does not have built-in GPS. The US version of the Dual (Neon 300) does not have built-in GPS. Not sure about the 400 (Nike 400 or Neon 400?). I've never heard of the Nike 400, but I have heard of the Neon 400 which did have built-in GPS. Hope this helps...
I have confirmed that this works with my Neon400 CDMA for real GPS, NOT ASSISTED GPS as posted by dezurita.
I used com4 (personal preference I guess)
I have my Baud Rate set to 9600 (step 11 suggests 4800). I haven't confirmed that this works any better or worse
I did not need to do step 4
A fix to step 8 though is there is no baud setting on that page
On a side note; Since I'm using Windows Vista, I don't use ActiveSync... I use Windows Mobile Device Center.
You can make the same settings as step 2 by opening up the WMDC -> Mobile Device Settings -> Connection Settings
im trying this on my Neon400 but so far is unsuccessfully, maybe im doing this wrong some how....
in Google maps-Menu-GPS settings do i have to set Set manually or managed by windows?
thanks.
Use Turbo GPS to see satellite status
Hi Stutunaru,
Use turbogps to see the satellite status. That way you can be certain that you are getting actual satellite data.
For google maps, (and everything else) use the "managed by windows" setting for the GPS data.
MENU:OPTIONS:GPS SETTINGS:MANAGED BY WINDOWS
My previous step 11 was incorrect. My bad.
Hi Dezurita,
Ditto
Hi Glotsapot,
You are correct. The corrected step 8 is:
START:SETTINGS:SYSTEM:EXTERNAL GPSROGRAMS:GPS PROGRAM PORT:COM 3:HARDWARE:GPS HARDWARE PORT NONE: BAUD: 4800
However, I don't think this step is even required unless you have an external GPS device. So step 8 may be skipped altegether since the HTC TOUCH DUAL has an internal GPS Radio Rxcvr.
Regarding setp 4. I use Active Sync to get info from Google Maps like bus schedules or guide info, or the location of all my buddies on latitude, or to update my location on latitude. Then I disconnect from the web (unplug the USB cable from my PC and break the Active Sync connection). Actually I have pretty much stopped using Google maps now except latitude, since to be really helpful it requires a full time internet connection.
Instead, I have installed Garmin XT along witht he NA 2010 North America City Navigator map set. (I bought an 8GB Micro SD card from FS for $25 to store the maps). Also you can download speed camera data from Trapster.com.
This is a serious killer app. And NO SERVICE CHARGES for turn-by-turn directions. Typing letters on the Garmin works with your fingers if in landscape display mode.
Oh baby! oh baby! oh baby! oh!
My only regret is no Wi-Fi. If I had Wi-Fi I could update Latitude whenever in Wi-Fi range - for free. I hate to be so friggin' cheap, but that is what I do best.
Oh, and a full querty keyboard. That would be nice. So if I was to do it over, I would probably get HTC Touch Diamond (for Wi-Fi and virtual keyboard) or the HTC Touch Pro with the full physical qwerty keyboard. But I would buy only after I install Turbo GPS and confirm I can see the satellites. (ie Confirm that the GPS Rxcvr has not been artificially cripppled)
Hi guys/Girls
Hope you can help and point me in the right direction.
I performed a ROM update on my phone earlier today following your extreamly helpful guides.
But now I have a problem the 3G/HSDPA (I dont get any atall), where as normally i would be on HSDPA while sat at my desk in work, now i get a very poor GPRS reception.
I Understand this is something to do with the Radio Version?
Country UK
Provider O2
Model HTC HD2
OS Versiob 5.2.21868
Manila Version 2.5.19211619.0

ROM date 01/11/10
Radio Version: 2.06.51.07
Proticol Version 15.30.50.07U
What version should I be applying/where should I get it form? And is it just a case of running an EXE like it was with the ROM update (after applying the HSPL, which i have already done).
Thanks in advance for any help you can give Ive found this site extreamly helpfull so far, and I'm sure you can help me out here aswell.

I had the same issue because the o2 ROM sets you up just before Windows launches after a ROM update, or hard reset. The stock ROM is network independent so it doesnt do this.
Anyway, go to Start/Settings/Menu/All Settings/Connections/Connection setup, then just choose UK and O2 respectively.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I have tried this, and even downloaded the updated settings (very slowly over GPRS) dosnt seem to have made a differance.
I'm running through Random Radio Versions at the moment trying to find one that works, and provides me with the signal strength i had before. If i find out I will post this info here to help others in the future.
Obviously if someone has already solved this issue please let me know to save me some time
There should be a 3g/GSM switch in the Comm Manager, GSM will be only GPRS and Edge wheras 3g will include 3g and HDSPA. If it isnt there, there is a tweak (either reg edit or a cab file i think), search through the forum and you should find it.

Would this be the same as going into the band settings and configuring them as Auto? Thesrs loads of numbers in here that im not going to even pretend to understand Shed any light on what the UTSM settings should be etc... or should they be left as AUTO?
When setting up a data connection, i only get the option of "Cellular Line (GRPS) and not Cellular Line (GPRS,3G). I assume this is my problem?
Ahhh so confused, I'm on my 3rd Radio version and none of them have made a differamce yet

Without wanting to sound really dumb, or ask a stupid annoying question but how do i do that? My band settings are already set to Auto
Settings tab on Sense, Wireless controls, then you should have a switch that says 3g, in your case it should be off, turn this on. If it isnt there, let us know!

No 3G option, I did have a look for the CAB/Reg tweak, but from looking at it it just changes the band settings from GSM to auto (which mine are already set at) if this is not the case whats the best way of adding this switch?
http://www.ad-grafiska.se/HD2/LEO TWEAKS/Touch X add 3G commmanager.cab
This is from the sense 2.5 tweaks & mods cabs thread, it will add the 3g button. Try and see what happens, if it doesnt work then I will see what settings I have on mine

OK ive installed the CAB (Thanks for linking to it for me was a great help). After restarting my HD2 i now have the option to disable/re-enable 3g.
However (heres the bad news) it was already set to on. Iv switch it off/Back on etc... and i'm still only getting GPRS, with no 3g option under the new connections manager.
The_cool, are you on O2 in the Uk aswell? If you try to set up a new connection can you select Cellular Line (GPRS,3G)? I only get the GPRS option.
What ROM/Radios versions are you using?
If you had the stock O2 rom, flash the radio that came with your phone -
Leo_RADIO_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50_22_2(from HTC ** 1.43)
see the radio thread.
radios are independent, I should be surprised if its that.
have you tried the icon your sim card installs? look in start, probably down the bottom , looks like a sim card and called o2 (or whatever sim you have in) and has one option...get settings?

I am from the UK but I am on T mobile, running topix 1.2 and my radio is the one that came with the offical 1.66 rom which is 2.06.51.07
I am abit confused when you say "with no 3g option under the new connections manager." Testing the switch on mine, when it is off, it says 3g as the heading and the text under is says Change to auto mode. When you turn it on, the phone goes offline for a few seconds and the switch now says 3g as a heading and the text under sayin Change to GSM mode. Your switch should be like this with the switch in the on position. Sorry if I am being patronising but I just want to be clear.
When you talk about celluar line, I am assuming you mean when you try to set up a new connection, this is only for data connections, not for making calls. If I am not mistaken, even if that wasnt set up, it wouldnt stop you from having 3G or H reception, you just wouldnt be able to using the data funtions on the phone until that was set up. But looking at mine, if I edit my connection, the 1st page that comes up is Enter a name for the connection and the then Select a modem. That is on Cellular Line (GPRS) which is greyed out and I still get 3g reception.
usually you will get good GPRS reception, 3g/H can be hit or miss. Try reflashing your radio or try a different one.
Try going to Settings, Connections, Advanced Network and then check that Enable HSDPA/HSUPA is showing in the HSDPA/HSUPA tab. The options on mine are Disable, Enable HSDPA Only and Enable HSDPA/HSUPA.

That only enables or disables HSDPA, even if diasabled you would still get 3g reception but i guess its worth a try.
perhaps the local antenna is having problems or other source of local interference?
I have personally noticed in comparing T-mobile and O2 that in most places T-mob have good to great 3G, whereas O2 is iffier on 3G, but faultless 2G.
I just flashed my sister's Diamond/Ignito with the latest official UK O2 diamond rom and now she only gets gsm and no 3g either. What the heck is going on?
Origional SPL installed and phone still has the same problem.
After speaking to O2 Cust Support it seems there are intermittant Network problems due to upgrades they are performing at the moment on their network. However that dosnt explain why my old SE c905 has full HSDPA when my hTC HD2 as 1 bar GSM or no signal atall using the same sim in the same location (and only the amount of time it takes me to swap over a sim in time differance).
Phone is going back today, as I'v only had it a week.
Try these official O2 settings. If you already have Mobile Web sttings then click edit to see if the settings below match.

My htc touch hd was originally on orange but i unlocked it and am using o2 pay as you go sim. however i never get a strong signal, and sometimes when i call people nothing happens when i check my balance sometimes it just says operation failed.
theres nothing wrong with the sim card as i've used it on other phones perfectly, and i've used a vodafone sim on my blackstone and its worked perfectly
also when im using android (problem occurs on all versions e.g. froyo/gingerbread) on my blackstone it says im on bt cellnet whilst im on o2 and so i my o2 sim card is useless on android. Do any other o2 users have this problem?
Should i get a new sim card? and is this with all o2 sim cards on blackstone?
EDIT
yeh still the same problem, signal always seems to be weak, but im gonna try the nandroid rom, my main isssue is that when ive used android on my blackstone from the sd card it says im on bt cellnet- when im on o2 !
while from several clues in your post i assume you are in the UK, it would have been nice to mention that, since o2 exists in several countries with different sim cards, network infrastructures and frequencies.
from a quick search i found that orange uk is operating on the 1800mhz band, while o2 appears to be on the 900mhz band. assuming that while changing your sim card, you did not change the rom or any settings, this might be the solution:
open phone->menu->options
1. ->network, set network selection to automatic.
2. ->band, set network type to automatic and gsm/umts band to automatic
also, depending on your rom, there might be an automatic band selection option in comm manager.
while these are windows mobile settings, it might still affect your android problems as well, since android through haret is based on windows correctly loading hardware drivers.
the settings here are taken from my htc wwe 1.56 stock rom, values or naming might vary.

yes from uk
yeh im using a kwbr rom(i think), on all roms ive tried including windows, i get the problem
for my band setting they are both auto, so do i change anything?
on network type its auto, band frequency is auto but i can choose from
auto,gsm(900+1800) + umts (900+1200), gsm(1900+850) or umts (2100)
so do u know how to fix the android problem thats my main concern, if nandroid comes to blackstone will the problem still occur?
you could give it a go with gsm on the top one and gsm(900+1800)+umts(900+2100), since according to my research o2 uk operates on 900mhz for gsm and umts.
i am fairly certain, this issue originates in your windows mobile settings and is therefor also present in haret android. nandroid works in another way. since it is flashed directly in the rom space of the device, it replaces winmo and it will not depend on winmo for the initialization of the hardware. which is why i believe, the issue might not be present there.
also: have you tried other roms and/or other radio roms? the latest radio 1.17.25.09 is known for a generally better performance (which comes with the downside of slightly higher power consumption).

nah i havent used other radio roms- i thought they just affected the radio, im not sure of what radio roms do. maybe ill try other radio roms when i've got time
ill change my band settings, will this have an effect on 3g and signal strength or anything?
the radio rom handles all kinds of interactions between the windows mobile operating system and the hardware. this includes the fm radio, but also the camera, bluetooth, speaker, microphone, wi-fi, gps and also wireless communications like gsm and 3g.
so it might help your case. you should perform a hard reset after flashing a radio though, because previously stored bluetooth pairings or stored wi-fi networks might not work afterwards w/o a hard reset.
as mentioned above, the latest version 1.17.25.09 improves performance like quicker gps fix, better wi-fi signal and better gsm signal. also, have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111373 and the one linked in there for information on how other people handled their similar signal problems.

Hi All,
Just got an unlocked AT&T branded Atrix for use in Ireland. Having used a HTC Desire for the last year (great phone but not enough Ram - could not install any more apps etc) I have become used to Android and really like it (used windows phones for the previous 10 years).
Unfortunately the Atrix in its current form is a bit "hobbled" by AT&T. so to get it to work like the HTC Desire required some work.
Here are some tips I have found - note none of these require root access:
1) in Europe it seems to prefer to connect to the 2G network. to get 3G in the phone type in *#*#4636#*#*, select the top option (phone information) and down near the bottom you will see it is set to GSM Auto (RPL) - no idea what this is, to ensure 3G select WCDMA only (note the WCDMA preferred does not seem to stick - anyone got any ideas?)
2) In the above menu if you press the menu button one of the options is to change the radio band DO NOT DO THIS!!! your phone won't work in Europe if you do - it appears to restrict the radio to the US GSM frequencies. (I did this but got it back by applying the OTA firmware updates via wifi so I was lucky. You have been warned!)
3) Wifi hotspot: out of the box this does not work, it tries to open up the hotspot but AT&T charge extra for this so it "checks" if you are allowed to tether, obviously it gets no response in Europe so it won't allow the app to start. To get around this:
a) in the APN set the APN Type to "default, tether"
b) make sure the APN name is AT&T US HSDPA (without this it just freezes on setting up the connection - odd)
4) for progarams like mybackup pro etc that use the SD card, the /mnt/sdcard is actually the internal memory. to use your card, you need to change the path to /mnt/sdcard-ext
5) for Copilot to use the sd card, in the copilot directory on the internal memory there is a file usr.cfg - change all entries in this from /mnt/sdcard to /mnt/sdcard-ext and copy the data/maps across to your sd card.
6) Audible - Audible will only work with the books on the internal memory - still looking for a solution to this one.
If anyone has any more please feel free to add.
Regards,
W.
Update on point 3: seems it is not quite as simple. what you need to do each time you power your phone off and on:
1) power on hot spot - it will tell you you can't
2) edit the apn type = default, tether
3) power on the hot spot - it will probably freeze during setting up connection
4) remove apn type (leave as blank or default)
5) hotspot should now complete the setup and work. you can now switch it on and off as much as you like
6) if you power off your phone repeat above steps
