Qtek 2020 & Sandisk 256 MB / WiFi card / D-Link: any hel - Networking

Hi there
I have 4 issues with my beloved Qtek 2020 (aka MDA 2 / XDA 2) and the new Sandisk 256 MB / WiFi card and I was wondering if someone has experienced similar issues.
I start with the least important one:
1. Installation program: When choosing language the program shows "mouseover error" (I used TAB-Keys to make it work), the installation in German is not possible (the files simply don't exist). I installed english version, everything as expected and fine. Finished with soft reset.
2. No connection to accesspoint what-so-ever, allthough the AP works fine with the other devices I use. Wireless radio is turned on, however the connection indicator is flashing. When I try to access Utility software via settings/connections/ I get message "Wi-Fi Settings: Unable to connect to the wireless NetCard. Is it inserted?" (yes, it is: the indicator is flashing)
Using the status icon on the home-screen I get access to the utility software. Here what it shows on the tabs:
Network Status Tab: Everything grey and zero, no luck with rescan.
Advanced Tab: Tried all Power Save Modes and (just "for fun") all 802.11b Preamble Modes: No joy !!!
Funny Thing on the About Tab: Driver Version and date unknown. However: the driver version 3.01.04.3.0037 was shown during the installation process. F/W Version (what's this?) also unknown, Serial Number shows blank.
3. Tapping the AP Browser Tab is causing a crash of PDA. Only way to get the machine running again is to soft reset. Quite annoying !!!
4. Last but not least: I appear to be unable to access 256MB. Sometimes it is asking me to format the drive, but whatever I do (yes/no) no progress ...
What did I try: I downloaded drivers from SanDisk support pages and tried to update the existing ones but no improvements.
Anybody an idea? I had a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=10338 where compatibility issues with DLink WLan Routers are discussed. Might that be an issue?

In another forum, someone installed the pocketpc 2002 driver and the wi-fi worked. But he still couldn't access the 256 Mo.
Another article told that the sdio port of the 2020 is not as sdio as someone shall expect.

SanDisk is admitting that it doesn't work
There is quite a thread on this issue here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=10079
as far as I understand this thread SanDisk is admitting in various responses to individual users that their Sandisk 256MB + WiFi SD doesn't work with Qtek 2020 / XDAII / MDAII, allthough it is on their compatability list.
The postings in regards to this problems begin 21. Juli which is pretty much the time when those cards were made available in Europe.
I'm very disappointed and I will try to get my money back ...

The market reacts
Now the salespeople have acknowledged the problem, too.

A little bit to late for me :-(

i got done too
I also bought one of these cards from LOGITEX computing in the UK - based on the compatability charts on their website.
They are refusing to accept it being returned.
Learn from my mistake and avoid dealing with these people.

Bug / Problem List for the new PPC 2003 ROM

I just want to warn everyone the 2003 rom has many problem, since it is an internal development version. Here is the bugs I found right now.
1.Maybe it's not a "BUG". It miss the Wireless Modem which many people asked for a long time.
2.I tried Windows Media Player and Pocket Music 1.5, both can't turn off the display, which means you have to leave the display on when you listen the music. If any one can turn off the display , please tell us, may be I got some software conflicted.
3. 2 "Power" Logo on the setting menu, but the have different content. It looks like one is the new power setting tab, but it didn't provided some old fuction in the old power setting tab, so O2 kept the old one.
4. The SIM Contacts (Sim utility provided by PPC 2003) is horrible. It has NO fuction except copy the SIM card address to the phone.
5. YOU MUST NOT install Batterypack 2003 on the phone. It looks like working after you install, but your machine will never boot up after a soft-reset except hardreset the phone. (It is PPC 2003 / Battery Pack 2003 problem, not O2 / HTC's fault).
6. You will never know if the current signal support GPRS or not. It will not display the G logo in the "signal bubble".
Please add the list if you got any problem with the new rom.
If the bug I listed can't stop you install the new rom, go ahead  .
Moreover, it's not an official / final version rom, if you want stable rom, stay with XDA SE 1.1 rom.
Sorry for my horrible english~

No, it was added in the new ROMs by Qtek and O2. Whether it's a Microsoft or HTC tool I don't know, but it's definitely not ours...
XDA developer Peter Poelman,
didn't know that. i thought it was urs.
PPC 2003
Hi all
Only autentization to VPN over cetificates is good feature for me.
Another features :?
XDA-dev ROM 1.1 is best solution
It seems the "screen toggle" bug (can't switch off the screen probelm) can be fixed by install the PocketMusic 2.0 Bundle plus the 2.0_4_3 fix.
I can see a hotkey to turrn off display with 2.0 version.
Moreover, the "auto turn off display" fuction still works on the PocketMusic 1.5 Bundle version, and 2.0 too.
It's so strange the PocketMusic 2.0 works but WMP 9.0 doesn't work.
I'm happy with the PPC2003 now. If we have to wait to long beforce the official release, will XDA-Developer release an extra SE version based on the current version of PPC2003?
It still suffers fron some sms issues, i cant get a delivery receipt, and also the time sent stamp is actually the time received.
The auto config does not work, so as a result i can't get gprs working...
(Anyone know the settings for o2 uk ?)
All in all though a good upgrade !!
i loaded the 2003 rom and only have minor issues.
1. when connecting the network says voicestream instead of t-mobile.
2. connection seems slower even with the accelerator proxy turned on. the connection used to be as high as 40k according to spb gprs monitor. now i haven't seen it break 20k.
Unit no longer powers-on when placed in sync cradle; In order to sync the unit I now have to either (a) make sure unit is turned-on before placing it into cradle, or (b) place powered-off unit in cradle, then turn power on.
Not a major issue, but certainly a back-step in functionality. Anyone else notice this?
I'm using a TMobile XDA with updated ATT radio stack and PPC2003.
To Dondi :
I have your issue too, but I didn't think it is a problem for me, since I hate the machine suddenly power on itself when I am charging it.
i guess it s even better for the screen not to be lighted all the time when plugged on the cradle
Hey all. I just installed WM2003 PE. It looks and feels great. I only have the following comments:
I have installed the ROM on my Qtek 1010.
1. I can't seem to see any MIDI ringtone support on this one (probably because it's not a final release)
2. I'm still running on my old Radio Version 3.23 and my GPRS resumes connection seamlessly after calls - which is great.
3. I've read somewhere that applications will be visible on the 'taskbar' when running, but do not get this functionality also. No worries on this though, because 'Switch' works fine with WM2003.
4. Still no ability to add custom Operator Logos.
5. Hooray for the 'Busy' tone and indication!
SPB GPRS Monitor works fine with 2003. I also wanted to know from the rest of you guys: Do you have to manually initiate GPRS connectivity after a soft-reset? Or does it pick up your default connection and auto-connect?
To killercheung and Cyberb0b: You've given me a new perspective on the XDA not automatically switching on when placed in the cradle in the off state -- I appreciate the benefits you pointed out.
Also, I did notice that when I initially loaded the Ozone beta (prior to upgrading radio stack) the GPRS symbol was being displayed regularlyand I had no problem connecting with GPRS and getting decent performance (> 20 Kbps). However, after I convinced myself to "go all the way" and also perform the Radio Stack update, I now rarely see the GPRS symbol, and GPRS perfirmance has dropped to the 1Kbps level.
Now I wonder if Ozone also updated the radio (which I perhaps subsequently "downgraded" by loading the ATT RSU). Can anyone shed some light on this?
for what i ve seen Ozone does not modifiy the radio stack, you have to upgrade it yourself useing for exemple the O2 upgrade version 4.21.
As far as i m concern using GPRS in France with Orange as operator with SE 1.1 or with ozone i have the same brandwith capacity depending on the network trafic and my position, between 10 and 30 Kbps, i use SPB GPRS manager to monitor my connexion 24/7 and see what is my data consumption day by day (it also allow me to shut GPRS off without switching the phone off).
by now using ppc2003 for about a week, i have no gprs shut down, except going out of coverage area, we poor french are not full gprs anywhere, but it works pretty good in cities.
on thing i ve notices that i guess is significant :
however it is said that Gprs connexion isn t dropped any more when an incoming CSD call start, that is true but the transmissions are stopped.
I mean i can not send or recieve data while talking on the phone line. But this is not due to the software i guess it is due to the number of channels aviable on the device usually it s 4 + 1 or 4 + 2
whereas phones like SE P800 have 6 + 4 channels allowing the to really exchange data while using CSD channel.
But nevertheless it is a good upgrade cause i do not have to kill my irc session while talking on the phone (just have to hang up fast before the irc timesout ) ).

Haven't had any other problems though!
ROM v4.00.01
Radio v6.18.00
T-Mo PPC on T-Mo USA
I get a lock-up on the splash screen after a soft reset. It might have something to do with Battery Bar ap. :?
I'm running it with pocket plus and PI 4.5 as well as SPB full screen keyboard and hasn't had any locks up as well. as for the SD card being formatted i saw this happen to my friend's sandisk 64mb card running 0zone 3 version of ppcpe 2003.
alex
I haven't had any of these problems. Using an SX-56 with Radio A20.10 and ROM 4.00.01 ENG Dated 5/16/03, protocol 324e4. Using ATTWS service.
me too i haven't had any problems. using Qtek 1010 Radio 4.21.00 & ROM 4.00.01 ENG dated 5/16/03, protocol 324e4 using MTCNet services every thing running very well
those of you who are not having these problems are you running the first version of 2003 O2 developers version or the newest one avail here based on AWSbin? :?:
PhoneGuy dont use it i installed Battery Pack 2003 and had a lock up the device wouldnt start again after a soft reset i had to apply a hard reset to get it working again.
Also i have a problem when connecting to GPRS there is no d/c button i had to push long the red close button to d/c my GPRS session after 5 seconds exactly i will loose service signal i have to turn off/on phone to re obtain signal!

No such problems so far. However, here are some bugs I have noticed:
1. The phone seems to have difficulty in re-acquiring the GSM signal after it has been out of coverage for a while. I sometimes have to switch if off and then on again when I get back to coverage.
2. GPRS - The speeds seem better, but there seems to be an issue with connecting to GPRS as the device refuses to connect sometimes even when it is supposedly GPRS-Attached ('G' icon present).
3. I use PocketNAV and keep finding this application 'HTC SAT' listed as one of the running programmes. Cant figure out what this one is.
4. If you go into contacts from the phone screen and close the contact screen without actually making a call, the contact on top of the list seen earlier will appear on the phone screen. On many occassions I thought I had wrongly dialled numbers that I never meant to call, but when I figured this issue out I was relieved that I hadnt accidentally made all those international calls.....
5. SMS WORKS LIKE A DREAM. The name of the contact still appears when you click reply, but you dont have to delete it anymore - the message goes through even if you dont. SMSs seem to be sent much faster, too...
CHeers
I can go into contacts and close it and go to the phone and it does not show the last contact selected. I suspect that this may be do to one of your applications. I have the following applications loaded:
1. SPB Pocket Plus (Latest version that work on 2003)
2. MobiPassword (Eval)
3. Fonix 1.2EN & UL Roger Voice
4. Pocket Plan (Eval)
5. PHM Registry Editor
6. Converter CE
7. Mapopolis
8. Acrobat Reader
9. Access NetFront3
10. Sprite Backup
11. Portmith Ipresent
12. Spamfilter (beta)
13. MidCast (Eval)
14. Pocket Explorer
None of these appear to cause any problems. Only SPB Pocket Plus and Fonix are loaded in RAM. All others on on SD card. I hope this helps.
(See above for ROM Versions)
SD Card Erasing on WM2003 - Solved!
I have also had that problem.
It happened to me TWICE, but after some really lengthy investigation, I have figured out what causes it--
It's the new 'Pictures' application! TURN OFF the 'Detect digital camera' option, and your problem will go away!
Hope this helps everyone. I HIGHLY suggest everyone do this NOW! It's not a good thing to loose an entire 256MB card full of documents and programs!
You the Man, thanks!
I have installed the wm2003 4.00.01 rom Yesterday.
I must all looks good and every ting i use works.
BatteryPack 2003 V5 does some strange things when I have the phone app open.
If I open a speed dail and later the call history, I can't close the call history or the Phone.
When I want close the call history, it will show the speed dail, and when I close this one it will show me the call history.
I will have to press the green answer button to get the phone app back on my screen.
Which I cant close because it will open the call history or speed dail.
Any one any solutions to this problem.
As has been stated by mnay users Battery Pack has problems. I wouldn't advise anyone to load it until you are convinced that these problems have been fixed.
I have noticed one minor inconsistent problem. After synching devise on cradle and leaving it there, after removing it from cradle it soemtimes will not recconect to the GPRS even though a G shows. A soft reboot and it will connect fine. Other times I just wait a while and it recconects fine.
I also noted on another site that was testing connections that in the fully released version it keeps track of your connection time. Nice feature once we get the release version.
I love the fact that email polling really works the way you would think it would now. Even after the device shuts itself off, it continues to get email. I set mine to 5 minutes, so it is almost like having push email. After seven days of usage I am still impressed.
Using the second WM2003 beta, 4.20.1081 build 13100, ROM 4.00.01 ENG, Radio A.20.10, Protocol 324e4, on the US T-Mobile system, my PPCPE is working flawlessly in the North Texas area. I was having severe GPRS problems after the update, but replaced my three year old Vstream SIM with the latest generation and that fixed the problem immediately.
The only inconvenience I have encountered is the fact that Omega One products (Battery Pack and Journal Bar) do not work even though the Omega One website claims compatibility in the product information section. According to the user forums on that site, beta versions exist but are problematic.
As stated by others previously, stay away from their products for now. I miss Journal Bar!
David
AGREED ABOUT WM2003, ALTHOUGH I LIKE THE ALWAYS ON INTERGRATED GPRS ON THE OPERATING SYSTEM SIDE AND CONNECTIVITY FEATURES.
THERE ARE A LOT OF BUGS AND ISSUES, I'M WAITING FOR THE XDA WM2003 SPECIAL EDITION TO BE RELEASED
ANYONE GOT A ESTIMATE TIME IT'LL BE OUT?

XDA2 and Sandisk WIFI-SDIO Card - Very poor Performance?

Hello everybody,
I am using an XDA2 (=iMate) which sports a SDIO slot; furthermore, the device is listed in sandisk's compatibility listing. To connect to our wireless network (811.b), I use the Sandisk SDIO-Wireless-Lan-Adapter. I had no problems connecting to the access-point, I get a stable connection immediately, the indicated connection speed is 11 Mbit/sec. Since the distance to the ap is very small, link quality is near 100%.
The problem is that the maximum transfer performance I get is very poor. I get no more than 250Kbit/sec (=30Kbyte/sec), no matter if I do webbrowsing or simply copy files from other computer in the local area network. This is nothing compared to the ~5000Kbit/sec (=600Kbyte/sec) that an 811.b adapter should be capable of. I tried changing channels, but that did not change anything. I also hard-reseted my xda2 and installed nothing but the sandisk-drivers...no changes. Alternatively, I tried the driver from socket....works, but no changes in performance.
I have got the same problem at two different wireless networks (at work & at home), so it seems that the problem is on my system. I cannot test more than these two networks, since I do not know any others.
Has anybody got an idea what could cause this problem? How fast are your XDA2s with SDIO-Wifi?
Thanks in advance,
Stephen.
I had the same problem I returned my card and got a Socket one instead (from Expansys) I worked immediately.
After I returned it I read somewere that you must set your access piont to work at only the slower 11mbs and not the faster 22 or 56mbs and that will resolve the Sandisk problem.
I cannot verify this as I had returned my card, but my access piont was a Dlink one runnig at 56mbs
Sam
hi stephob12,
after reading this read i have googled around and found an article about socket sdio wlan card in a german computer magazine. the wrote that the sdio-specs do not allow transfer speeds > 35,7kb/sec regardless what sdio-card you are using (sandisk or socket). your performance of about 30kb/sec is really near the theoretical maximum limit.
i have no experience with those cards but i had planned to purchase one for my xda2 but i am slightly disappointet about that sdio limit :? . at home i use a bluetooth connection to my dsl access point and the speed is very good especially when you know that bluetooth with its 723kbit/sec is much slower than 802.11b with 11mb/sec.
i will now overthink whether to purchase a sdio wlan-card or not. at least not for the price of around 100 us$ or euros they have at the moment.
regards
peter
Hi,
can you post the URL of the article you found?
or send it per PM if you prefer ...
and what do you mean with "socked one", which one is it ?
and no one has any information about how the Compact Flash one is working, by using the back pack - this would be an alternative, don't you think???
ciao
the card is a "SOCKET" you can see it on www.expansys.com it is offered as an alternative to SANDISK at thew same price.
Thank you for the quick answer,
now I sow it, it seems to be more interesting than the Sandisk, I wanted to buy one ... but in that case it is worth to wait, to find a Socket near to where I live
May be I can find it in China or in the USA,
there is another brand - I forgot the name - which will be sold soon at CompUSA ...
I'm trying to find it ...
wil post it when I got it

Cheeper SanDisk SD WiFi card
Hi,
i think ive found (cheers google  ) the same SanDisk wifi card u guys were talking about for $85 US (£47 GBP sounds much cheeper) at blueproton.zoovy.com so i was gunna ask if ne1 had ne experience with them but u obviously do.
just a couple of questions, am i right in guessing that SDIO stands for Secure Digital Input Output? how secure are these devices? what sorta encryption base do they use? and does ne1 know if there is any talk of bringing out a faster (22g or 54g) card on SD or CF?
Cheers
Smiley
Smiley,
SDIO WiFi card offers you WEP with 128bit key and this is your basic Wifi security. I am not sure if the SDIO card does any encyription. I suspect not.
As far as I know there is no 802.11g card (SDIO or CF) yet. I just read the news about a 802.11g chip for mobile devices. See below :
http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/4968.html
This may mean we may see cards based on this chip in the future or there may be products using this technology to deliver built-in Wifi capability.
Hope this helps. Regards

Hello all,
I've got this Socket SDIO WLAN card, and it's terrible with regardws to throughput, but it's okay besides from that. I can't even stream a 300kb/s video, and that's not impressive... In cradle via USB it's of course okay, and having problems with SIP VOIP client as well, very very sad.. I wrote Socket, and got a reply that indicates they're sorry for this, but that it's caused by some HW-related issues on my device (QTEK 2020)

Trinity - multiple little problems

Hi,
First of all, I'm new here and I'm sorry if
a) These questions have been answered here 3748 times or
b) I have put this in the wrong forum/in the wrong format. I decided to group my questions together, in order to avoid cluttering the forum.
If a moderator feels I have posted this inappropriately, I'm happy to correct it, (eg. split this post into three).
So, that much for the disclaimer, don't shoot the noob
First question:
So, I bought a (used) trinity, pretty cheaply, and for the most part have been happy with it. Even got the GPS working, with the official update from the HTC website.
So, now that I knew how the rom flashing process went, I tried flashing the Indigo rom I downloaded from the forum. The problem is, I get stuck in the rom upgrade process, when the flashing is actually supposed to start. The PDA asks me to accept running the EnterBootLoader program, I accept, and the phone restarts, then, the system pops up with "connection lost, error 246 if I remember correctly". The phone returns to normal after a soft reset, so no harm done, but no good either. Is there some solution to this problem I am unaware of. Oh, the same happens when I try to flash hardspl too, so either, the current official ROM has some deviousness about it, or it's my computer. that is to blame.
Second question:
Two times now, my trinity's phone has played some tricks on me. First time, it showed an exclamation mark on the phone networking icon, the second time, all seemed normal, except, I couldn't access the phone settings, and when someone called me, to them it seemed I was just not picking up, but on my phone, nothing seemed to be going on. Is this normal, just another windows being windows, or could this be an indication of a hardware problem, or a problem with the dialer?
Third question:
When I first received the phone, it always tried to use GPRS or 3G to connect when I opened IE, even when there was a perfectly good WLAN connection connected. Upon ROM upgrade, all connection settings were lost. Originally, in the connection view, there were 2 or 3 sets of connection settings, now, there is only one.
- Am I supposed to add sets of settings there?
- I don't know where I am to add the 3g and GPRS settings?
- How do I set WLAN proxies, on the one set of settings I can see on connections, I can set a proxy, but it doesn't seem to work: at school, I can only see the internal network, but can't access the Internet.
I would also need to have two sets of proxy settings, one for school, one for home, is this possible?
Then, some spex from the phone, so you don't have to ask:
OS: WM5
ROM version: 1.23.403.2 (Offical, GPS enabled)
Radio version: 1.38.00.11
Protocol version: 32.71.7020.12H
ExtRom version: 1.23.405.103
Phone sold under name: HTC P3600
Finnish retail version.
Oh and on final note, this is an amazing forum, even if I started reading this a week before I got my phone, and have continued to do so ever since, the amount of information on any given subject related to PDAs and mobiles seems endless. I look forward in your insights in this matter.
Easy HTC Operator Configuration
Hi, if you have lost your Operator settings, there is an easy way
to set these settings :
You only need to download the operator configurator at http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=telechargements
It works well with Orange for me.
thanks to planete-htc
Hope this can help you.

I would also need to have two sets of proxy settings, one for school, one for home, is this possible?
Then, some spex from the phone, so you don't have to ask:
OS: WM5
ROM version: 1.23.403.2 (Offical, GPS enabled)
Radio version: 1.38.00.11
Protocol version: 32.71.7020.12H
ExtRom version: 1.23.405.103
Phone sold under name: HTC P3600
Finnish retail version.
Oh and on final note, this is an amazing forum, even if I started reading this a week before I got my phone, and have continued to do so ever since, the amount of information on any given subject related to PDAs and mobiles seems endless. I look forward in your insights in this matter.

OK third question seems answered. You should find network operator settings on the HTC website.
Second Question - try flashing a ROM / Radio ROM again and see if you still have the problem. (For that you'll need an answer to question One
First Question: if this happens, you should leave the phone in bootloader mode (three coloured bars on the screen) make sure it say USB at the bottom of the Trinity screen - make sure you're not using Vista as an OS - use XP. provided the above conditions are met, exit and run the Rom Upgrade Utility again. This time the progress bar should show - start moving - and your ROM will flash. Search Google for trinity guids on how to for vista if that's you case.
Thanks for the answers, first of all,
I actually found out one bit of the problem by searching the forum, it seems my firewall might have been the cause of the ActiveSync problems I've been having. The Kerio Personal firewall seemed to cause the rapimgr.exe to go into a loop, this might have caused problems to the Rom utility as well.
The strange thing is, this problem only stopped when I _uninstalled_ the KPF, not when I turned it off.
I will load the operator settings you mentioned
The only thing left is the WLAN proxy settings, how do I set them, and is there a way to have two sets of them, say, one for each network SSID?

Dead WiFi on my Touch HD. Possible reason: corrupted WiFi EEPROM.

MY problem is. The wifi won’t turn on, and when u go to wifi icon in the connection the turn on wifi won’t be ticked. I have tried a lot off rom and even back to the original Orange rom and spl, all the same didn’t change anything.
I’ve been advised that my WiFi EEPROM has been corrupted or blanked somehow, that's the usual cause.
I need to get hold of an EEPROM from another device and write it onto mine.
This problem has already been known and solution has been found for Hermes model (below is the link to that thread) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322225
Can anybody help me in my problem? I need tools (something similar used for Hermes model) and working Touch HD.
P.S. As I can see, by reading this forum, this is not only my problem.
I got the same problem as u, The wifi wont on and ticked.
But some times it will. I also doubt this is an hardware problem.
Because some time it will turn on and some times it wont.
any help here?
Now, I found My problem.
When ever I instaled any program. the wifi will stoped working.
is that software issue?
or hard ware issue?
But when I didnt instal any third application the wifi work perfectly, I have changed to several rom including 6.5 coocked.
i'm sorry to tell u this guys, because i used to have the same problem and even worse the camera used to show only blank screen and i my pc couldn't detect my HD via USB, so i searched for solutions but i couldn't find any. I guess the only solution for this problem is by replacing the main board by HTC so if ur mobile is still under warranty go and replace it as i did. I'm also afraid to face this problem again cuz i found that many people are having this problem. plz let me know if manneged to get it works without replacing the main board.
I am trying to attract our gurus' and moderators’ attention, because I believe that we can solve this problem without replacing mainboard. I also believe that HTC corp is making profit by receiving our some kind of broken mainboards, reflash them with the stock EEPROm and sell it as a new again.
Our gurus are spending their times to create bulk of custom ROMs, where at the same time solving such problem with WiFi, looks more interesting and challenging.
Also I understand that if we had real hardware problem, no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, nothing would work. But everything is OK, apart from Wi-Fi.
If we have done this for Hermes model, why not to do something for HD as well.
Intermittent wifi
I now also have this problem, having just received a replacement from Orange for my original HD, which I dropped resulting in a badly cracked screen. This first unit had no problem with wifi, and I used it regularly on my home network. I loaded up the new one with all the same software, and, lo and behold, the wifi has become intermittent. Sometimes it works fine, at others when I attempt to switch it on the wifi symbol appears at the top of the screen momentarily and then disappears again, and there are also periods when it won't switch on at all. I have been trying to detect some pattern to this, or if there is something specific that triggers it, but so far without success. I am close to asking Orange for another replacement, and the comments above re corrupted wifi eeprom reinforce this. I also would be interested to hear from the gurus about this issue.
Loads of people report the problem, here and on other sites, but HTC has never explained what was wrong with the returned units (simply swopping MoBos and sending them back) and neither has anyone shown what combination of things "triggers" it - if indeed there is a trigger. It may just be a QC issue.
There was an anecdotal suggestion that the BT/WiFi antennas are too close to the board, so despite the EM shielding running the two together could cause damage, but nobody's been able to replicate it (and I doubt they ever will, as it requires someone to intentionally fry a working handset - not a cheap way to prove a point!).
I've had this problem now for a while and even sent my phone back to HTC for repair. It came back to me about 3 weeks ago and they said they fixed it. I never tested it when I got it back (stupid, I know!) and recently found it not working again. Today I hard reset the phone and found it worked but then didn't after installing Copilot SatNav. Bugger!
Does anyone have a solution to this that doesn't involve sending the phone back because when HTC reboot the phone they'll find that it works (surprisingly as no software will ghave been loaded!)
Any ideas?
+1 No WIFI + Camera + Strange USB connection (IT IS SOFTWARE)
+1 No Wifi, No Camera and stupid USB
The USB works I can flash from computer so it must work.
The USB dosnt ussually work unless flashing.
The Wifi just wont go/stay on at all
6.5 Roms there is no Camera Icon
6.1 Roms when the Camera Icon is hit, nothing happins
This has to be fixable by software, I know I can get the USB working and it is ONLY software as I can Flash it through USB, and in Bootloader it shows up USB when connected. Note:- Also my battery wont charge from USB, testing to see if its battery problem soon, but semi sure it is Software problem, as it will charge a little bit when left in Bootloader mode all day.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP, I brought my phone from China (actually came from Belgium) and I am from Australia, don't wanna send my phone a million miles away to Europe.
Edit: USB seems to be charging under Energy Rom and (I don't know if this helps) 1.17.25.09 Radio.
Seems to me that we can try the EEPROM fix if we find out the WLAN EEPROM address for the Touch HD.
Any experts here to shine a light on this?
Edit: Have been doing some more testing and when I try the emapiTest command in MTTY USB mode (with HardSPL 1.56) here is the output I get:
emapi init 1251 Test
1. Power on WiFi
2. Init WLAN SDIO interface
SD clk rate 19MHz
SD clk rate 144KHZ
SD Clk rate 24 MHz
6. DeviceID Test
eMapi1251 Read ChipID : 0x4B00
WLAN 1251 detect fail...
7. Write/read Test, block size = 512
[eMapiSdInterfaceTest] mismatch at 1!!!
eMapiSdInterfaceTest NG!
8. Interrupt Test
eMapiTestInterrupt WIFI_IRQ = 0
eMapiTestInterrupt FAILED!! intr active state = 0, non-active state = 0
Can anyone who knows what they are talking about shed some light on this?
To be sure it is not Software related.
Can people post their Rom
And the registry key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\CommManager\WLAN]
"DeviceName"="{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\\TNETW12511"
(note this is the Registry key for the Diamond Wifi to work directly, Blackstone Wifi could have another GUID)
Also try to locate the wrlsmgr.exe in windows folder and try to start Wifi with that default Windows CommManager.
I've seen other devices where the address in the WLAN key was wrong, and it would show the behaviour one user posted here, you see Wifi pop up a second or two but disappear again)

First of all, thanks Noonski to stop by to check out this thread
My rom is the official 1.56.405.1 WWE Wm6.1 ROM
Even wrlsmgr cant switch my wifi on.
My wifi worked initially then started niggling, the whole switch on, switch off thing, and now it doesnt switch on at all...
Oh and my reg key at the location is the same
{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\TNETW12511
I have tried quite a few roms now including doing MTTY task 29 to format phone and load new roms from sd card followed by 2 hard resets...
Ai, wouldn't know where to go for MTTY and hardware issues.
I do remember the Dying radio on the original XDA issue, so it's not improbable.
I'll make this temp Sticky to see if it get's some attention by others.
My WIFI is dead also....but thank god I got dataplan....but I still wished someone can solve it.

Just to confirm that Blackstone Wifi has the same GUID as shown here above. My Wifi is still working, official stock ROM 1.56.401 WWE, radio version 1.13, no ROM or radio flashes performed so far (other than official ROM upgrade) ...

Thank you for stopping by. Without you guys, we will not be able to attract our gurus attention to this problem. By the way, Blackstone Wifi has the same GUID as shown above. My ROM is one of the EnergyRom 3.0 , radio version 1.14.25.24.
Just let me know what to do and I will start testing. Also I have working Blackstone around from which we can extract working EEPROm. Just give me tools and instructions.
I remember that I issued this command on my phone and has exact output you've posted. I also rememer that I've done that on the working one and it has different output stating that wlan is OK and there was not any 7. Write/read Test, block size = 512

I find it very interesting that the Trinity has the EXACT same registry entry. Also, the exact same WLAN Radio. So, is there a different WLAN Radio that is having the same issue (I don't remember the Hermes one), or is it solely the TNETW12511 that has the issue? Would be nice to help narrow it down a bit.
Could it be that by using these dumped ROMs that we are inadvertantly flashing code for a different WLAN Radio that is corrupting our eeproms? Maybe there is a small part of code hidden within the DUMPS that still remains? Just some thoughts... This problem seems to be happening more and more since WM6.5?
But I also realize it may be happening more and more because more people are flashing now than ever!
I have same situation with WiFi on my HD.
I would like to say something, which could be useful for gurus.
Sometimes my phone catching WiFi after a few soft resets. 3-4 times and I could connect to WiFi network.
