Hi guys/Girls
Hope you can help and point me in the right direction.
I performed a ROM update on my phone earlier today following your extreamly helpful guides.
But now I have a problem the 3G/HSDPA (I dont get any atall), where as normally i would be on HSDPA while sat at my desk in work, now i get a very poor GPRS reception.
I Understand this is something to do with the Radio Version?
Country UK
Provider O2
Model HTC HD2
OS Versiob 5.2.21868
Manila Version 2.5.19211619.0
ROM Version: 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
ROM date 01/11/10
Radio Version: 2.06.51.07
Proticol Version 15.30.50.07U
What version should I be applying/where should I get it form? And is it just a case of running an EXE like it was with the ROM update (after applying the HSPL, which i have already done).
Thanks in advance for any help you can give Ive found this site extreamly helpfull so far, and I'm sure you can help me out here aswell.

I had the same issue because the o2 ROM sets you up just before Windows launches after a ROM update, or hard reset. The stock ROM is network independent so it doesnt do this.
Anyway, go to Start/Settings/Menu/All Settings/Connections/Connection setup, then just choose UK and O2 respectively.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I have tried this, and even downloaded the updated settings (very slowly over GPRS) dosnt seem to have made a differance.
I'm running through Random Radio Versions at the moment trying to find one that works, and provides me with the signal strength i had before. If i find out I will post this info here to help others in the future.
Obviously if someone has already solved this issue please let me know to save me some time
There should be a 3g/GSM switch in the Comm Manager, GSM will be only GPRS and Edge wheras 3g will include 3g and HDSPA. If it isnt there, there is a tweak (either reg edit or a cab file i think), search through the forum and you should find it.

Would this be the same as going into the band settings and configuring them as Auto? Thesrs loads of numbers in here that im not going to even pretend to understand Shed any light on what the UTSM settings should be etc... or should they be left as AUTO?
When setting up a data connection, i only get the option of "Cellular Line (GRPS) and not Cellular Line (GPRS,3G). I assume this is my problem?
Ahhh so confused, I'm on my 3rd Radio version and none of them have made a differamce yet

I am on o2 and everytime I do a rom update I have to switch the 3g on. So that will more than likely be your problem

Without wanting to sound really dumb, or ask a stupid annoying question but how do i do that? My band settings are already set to Auto
Settings tab on Sense, Wireless controls, then you should have a switch that says 3g, in your case it should be off, turn this on. If it isnt there, let us know!

No 3G option, I did have a look for the CAB/Reg tweak, but from looking at it it just changes the band settings from GSM to auto (which mine are already set at) if this is not the case whats the best way of adding this switch?
http://www.ad-grafiska.se/HD2/LEO TWEAKS/Touch X add 3G commmanager.cab
This is from the sense 2.5 tweaks & mods cabs thread, it will add the 3g button. Try and see what happens, if it doesnt work then I will see what settings I have on mine

OK ive installed the CAB (Thanks for linking to it for me was a great help). After restarting my HD2 i now have the option to disable/re-enable 3g.
However (heres the bad news) it was already set to on. Iv switch it off/Back on etc... and i'm still only getting GPRS, with no 3g option under the new connections manager.
The_cool, are you on O2 in the Uk aswell? If you try to set up a new connection can you select Cellular Line (GPRS,3G)? I only get the GPRS option.
What ROM/Radios versions are you using?
If you had the stock O2 rom, flash the radio that came with your phone -
Leo_RADIO_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50_22_2(from HTC ** 1.43)
see the radio thread.
radios are independent, I should be surprised if its that.
have you tried the icon your sim card installs? look in start, probably down the bottom , looks like a sim card and called o2 (or whatever sim you have in) and has one option...get settings?

I am from the UK but I am on T mobile, running topix 1.2 and my radio is the one that came with the offical 1.66 rom which is 2.06.51.07
I am abit confused when you say "with no 3g option under the new connections manager." Testing the switch on mine, when it is off, it says 3g as the heading and the text under is says Change to auto mode. When you turn it on, the phone goes offline for a few seconds and the switch now says 3g as a heading and the text under sayin Change to GSM mode. Your switch should be like this with the switch in the on position. Sorry if I am being patronising but I just want to be clear.
When you talk about celluar line, I am assuming you mean when you try to set up a new connection, this is only for data connections, not for making calls. If I am not mistaken, even if that wasnt set up, it wouldnt stop you from having 3G or H reception, you just wouldnt be able to using the data funtions on the phone until that was set up. But looking at mine, if I edit my connection, the 1st page that comes up is Enter a name for the connection and the then Select a modem. That is on Cellular Line (GPRS) which is greyed out and I still get 3g reception.
usually you will get good GPRS reception, 3g/H can be hit or miss. Try reflashing your radio or try a different one.
Try going to Settings, Connections, Advanced Network and then check that Enable HSDPA/HSUPA is showing in the HSDPA/HSUPA tab. The options on mine are Disable, Enable HSDPA Only and Enable HSDPA/HSUPA.

That only enables or disables HSDPA, even if diasabled you would still get 3g reception but i guess its worth a try.
perhaps the local antenna is having problems or other source of local interference?
I have personally noticed in comparing T-mobile and O2 that in most places T-mob have good to great 3G, whereas O2 is iffier on 3G, but faultless 2G.
I just flashed my sister's Diamond/Ignito with the latest official UK O2 diamond rom and now she only gets gsm and no 3g either. What the heck is going on?
Origional SPL installed and phone still has the same problem.
After speaking to O2 Cust Support it seems there are intermittant Network problems due to upgrades they are performing at the moment on their network. However that dosnt explain why my old SE c905 has full HSDPA when my hTC HD2 as 1 bar GSM or no signal atall using the same sim in the same location (and only the amount of time it takes me to swap over a sim in time differance).
Phone is going back today, as I'v only had it a week.
Try these official O2 settings. If you already have Mobile Web sttings then click edit to see if the settings below match.

Hi
everyone does anybody have this problem the Xda Exec sometimes loss the network signal and then it does not connect to the network until you do a soft rest or go in to flight mode and back out and then it pick up the network.
I've try diffrent settings like connecting to the network manually does not work automatically some thing, any help.
The radio version that I have is 1.04.02
The Rom version is 1.13.48 WWE
The protocol version is 42.37.P8
The ExtRom Version is 1.13.139WWE
Thank you Gigino
Yes I've had the same problem occur to me several times, although I'm not sure it's actually losing the signal before that or not, but I'll look at my phone or take it out of standby and the phone will be off for no reason. I have to put it into flight mode, then take it out for it to work again.
I have a an Arabic enabled KJAM.
Rom version 1.1.9.3
Radio version 01.01.10
Protocol version 4.0.13.16
ExtRom Version 1.1.9.105
I have worked out that if you go into phone setting and network selection, select GSM only it should currently show GSM/UMTS and then in preferred neworks select your own network and move it to the top of the list, this solves the problem.
Thanks treblechance, that seems to be the source of the problem. Although there wasn't any option for GSM/UMTS (the KJAM doesn't support UMTS only the JASJAR). However I went into "Phone > Menu > Options > Network >Set Networks" and found my network at the bottom of the list and it wasn't checked. So I moved it to the top of the list and checked the box (I left network selection on Automatic) and it seems to have fixed it for now.
not a problem, noticed it with every single one i sold
This seemed like it might the same problem I've been having. It's the same symptoms, though I had blamed it on either a flakey radio hardware module, or a flakey radio driver.
Does anyone have any more information about this? It doesn't seem like just changing the network order should really be regarded as a good solution (though at this point, I'd happily take it as a workaround!), since isn't that just making the problem less likely to occur (suppose you traveled a lot, so were always roaming)?
Also, in my case I'm a T-Mobile subscriber, and there's 16 or so T-Mobile entries in the network list, with no identifiers to tell which part of the network they are for. I suppose if I could find my network number I could manually add it to the top, but not sure how to find it, or whether this really helps with the hung up radio connection enough to bother with.
Anyone have any more updates on this topic since 12/18?
Thanks!
Please give me any advice on the problem with this very good but uncertain device.
After a period of my no activity with GSM net (1.5-2 hours) no one can reach me by phone. Just after i make any call (or send sms, make ussd request) and next 2 hours everything is ok, then i'm again out of reach. Signal indicator is ok, and I can make calls anytime i want, but people can't reach me (till i do any action in net).
I've tryed all ROMs i could find, including the latest one - no results.
Operator - North West GSM (Megafon Volga)
I hope the description of a problem is clear. Sorry if it is not.
Please help.
hi,
maybe changing the phone settings to manual helps.
Hi.
U mean Net Selection - automatic/manual ? I will try...
Btw, is there any possibility to set gsm net ping frequency in registry. Or may be there exist a program that can ping gsm net periodically, i think it should kill the problem (gprs pingers do not solve it, i've already tryed).
I remember that on my old Nokia were such a setings as net requests frequency...
Thank you.

make sure that your phone settings are correct: in the "band" tab, make sure your network type is set appropriately - if you have a umts (3G) subscription, set it to "wcdma" otherwise, choose "gsm".
I have a problem. I must have tried 10 different ROM's in the last few days and I am getting extremely frustrated.
I have an HD2 (Telstra Version) that works on the 850MHz band for HSDPA.
Everytime I am on HSDPA, the location services stop working... Weather panel, Bing, Google Maps, nothing can find my location based on cell id... GPS works fine...
When i switch the 3G off... location services work perfectly fine.
I have tried different ROM, Radio combinations, but nothing seems to work...
I have tried NRG ROM, Dutty's HG (preferred) and ML series, but to no avail.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem further, or has anyone else encountered this... I would really like some help on this.
Thanks a lot.. beers/coffee on me...
Taimoor
It works!!!
Bless this forum and bless the users on it!!!
Finally i think I have a fix...
Hi guys. This seems to be a nice friendly informative thread. I too WAS having the data disconnect on my phone.
I have the 1.66 sea wwe official rom. I tried every radio from the telstra radio to the new 2.08.50.08_2 radio. To tell you the truth I didnt notice anything different between any of the radios. So I really can't say if one is better than the other. But I started changing settings.
If you are in a 3G (H) 850 area I suggest this.
settings/Wireless controls/phone/band
for Network Type choose WCDMA
for Band Frequency choose the third setting. On Telstra rom it will be GSM(1900)+UMTS(850) and on any other rom it will be GSM(1900+850) and select done.
Now this should stop most of that switching you see in the taskbar of your phone. But this isnt actually what is causing the freezing. It has to do with your sms messaging I believe. I went 2 weeks resetting my phone twice a day. Then I went here.
settings/menu/all settings/connections/advanced network/sms service
Right now GSM is working for me. 4 days and no internet freezing. I believe your incoming email might be coming in by sms also. Notice you only get a few lines and have to download the rest using data to see the whole email.
Others on the forum have turned off email and their phones quit freezing. So if GSM doesnt work for you try GPRS and so on. This is only my opinion but I have been very happy for the last 4 days. Thanks for letting me share this info.
If anyone is interested I have made a cab file which is un-installable that will change the Band Frequency menu to the menu from the Telstra rom. It is mostly cosmetic but at least you will know what bands you are selecting. Use at your own risk of course. I have installed, tested, and uninstalled it myself. No issues.
For the last 4 days with these settings I only see 3G while phone is setting idle. As soon as I connect to the internet it switches to H. I am very happy with my phone now. Thanks matthewf01 for starting this thread. I should have came here sooner.

Works with location services as well....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633404&highlight=9193&page=3
I'm an expat living in Beijing. Picked up my HD2 a few days ago. The guy flashed the following stuff on it:
os version: 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
manilla version: 2.1.37889.1
rom version: 2.09.531.4 (81280) WWE
rom date: 2/12/10
radio version: 2.08.50.08_2
protocal version: 15.34.50.07U
I cannot get it to browse the net on China Mobile. I've put in the cmnet/cmnet, i've tried cmwap, i've tried every combination of entering them into the username/pass as well. Nothing works.
I've now put on it something called HTC connection setup, which seems to have pre-set up a lot of those fields. Still doesn't work. (and i can't uninstall this one, it seems)
I've installed a program called datacontroller, where I can manually turn on all the types of data. Still doesn't work.
Is there something wrong with the rom that was flashed onto it?
Is anyone in Beijing?
Thanks everyone for your help!
by the way
By the way - the phone is not the HTC branded model, but it seems on the startup screen, i can see a sort of t-mobile logo (the brand animation is there, but the words t-mobile are removed).
Also, one strange effect from this rom:
I cannot add new locations in the clock.
i had a problem with my data connection on my HD2 the other day, the solution was to make sure you are trying to connect to the right network.
go to comm manager > data connection > advanced tab > select network.
i had to have both option set to "telstra internet" beacuse im in australia, you might just need to set these to the right network selection. though im afraid i cant tell you which is the correct network for your location/network provider.
good luck.
solved
actually i went to that screen - and it turned out that out of all the stuff - it was not set to the right network. none of the instructions i found ever mentioned that particular screen. it needed to be set to something like cmnet, but it was set to one other other ones which I'm not using!
thanks!
Never had any problems when using the HD2 in Shenzhen or HongKong on Chinamobile
but it could be that you have a older simcard that doesn't support your dataconnection.
Good luck.
yeah, i spent about an hour on the phone to my network provider, and after a couple of hours googling for a solution... THEN i found that suggested solution.
glad you got it fixed though.
Hi everyone!
This is my first post on XDA, but I've been referring to it a lot lately and have to say that it is a great community.
I am hoping that someone can help me with my HD2 problem. I initially tried running an SD version of Android 2.3 on my HD2, it was great but I had no working 3G or GPS. I thought this was to do with the ROM build, and started to look for a new one to try out.
It was at this time that I learnt about NAND. Since then I have installed HSPL 2.08, MAGLDR and flashed MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 (v. 2.6) A2SD+. This is a ROM of Android 2.3.2. Note that before I did this I had Radio version 2.15.50.14, which I believe to be correct (for the reason of needing 576MB RAM).
Everything is now running great on my NAND Android except for 3G and GPS. I don't have the option for enabling 3G in the 'wireless & networks' menu, which I should.
I've searched around but all I can find is people saying that before you flash Android you must ensure you have a radio that is compatible with 576MB RAM. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that Radio 2.15.50.14 is 576MB compatible.
The fact that I have no 3G AND no GPS does suggest that the radio may be incorrect (from what I know about them), but I don't know for sure. Can anyone help me out here?
I don't know if this info will help or make a difference to which radio I should use, but I am on O2 UK.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer any help! It is much appreciated!
have you made sure the o2 apn settings are correct ?
I am not familiar with O2 in the UK but since there is also T-Mobile in the UK, I am assuming that O2 is a competing SIM card carrier similar to ATT in the US for me. And if so, then I would think that O2 only can give you EDGE and not 3G. That is what happens when I try my HTC HD2 on ATT. Unless I am on T-Mobile, all other GSM carriers will only give me EDGE and not 3G. In regards to not obtaining GPS lock, I think it could be caused by the build you are on. Many of the builds are optimized for the location of the developer. I would then change your gps.conf file in your build to optimized GPS lock for you in the UK. Here is a link to the thread to help you change the gps.conf file on your phone:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630

Hi. Thanks for quick reply. I can go into my 'Access Point Names' menu, in 'Settings' > 'Wireless & networks' and can see multiple choices there. Seven of the options are for O2:
O2 UK (mobile.o2.co.uk)
O2 UK (mobile.o2.co.uk)
O2 UK Postpay MMS (wap.o2.co.uk)
O2 UK Prepay MMS (payandgo.o2.co.uk)
O2 MMS Postpay (wap.o2.co.uk)
O2 MMS Prepay (payandgo.o2.co.uk)
O2 UK MMS (idata.o2.co.uk)
I have no idea why some of them are identical or why there are so many for O2. However, I would have thought I should choose either of the top two, as I am on an O2 contract. If i select one of the top two then I can see the settings for that APN. The settings I can see that have values are:
Name, APN, Username, Password, MCC, MNC and APN type.
Should it be as simple as selecting an APN from the list or is there normally customisation required?

Hi. Thanks, that looks like something I need to find out for sure, although my 3G worked fine when I was running WM6.5 on O2, it was only when switching to Android that the problems arose. When I had the SD card version of Android I could go back and forth from WM6.5 to Android and would have 3G work in WM but not in Android, every time.
The good point about the SD card method was that if I ever really needed 3G I could easily reboot and use WM6.5, but of course now that I have a NAND version of Android I cannot do this, and so I am pretty keen to try and fix the problem so that I can use things like Google Maps when I am out and about etc.
Thanks again.

Doing a Google search it looks like O2 can give you 3G provided you have the proper APN settings. The different choices you listed will be based on what type of O2 plan you are using. Here is a link to a suggested APN setting if you are on the postpay MMS plan: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/o2-uk-postpay-mms-internet-apn-settings-18558/

Hi. Thanks for the info and link. I tried the settings mentioned in the first link you provided and it worked! Brilliant! After I had input the new settings I had to go to 'Mobile networks' and re-tick 'Data enabled'. I now have a little 'G' icon in the status bar with an incoming and outgoing arrow above it and can browse web pages again! Ahh mobile connection, I have missed you!
By the way, that G icon, I've just Googled it and it seems it represents a GPRS connection, which is slower than EDGE. I have to say, this new connection is very slow (not that I'm complaining too much). Does this make sense to anyone? On the post I got the settings from (linked to above - I can't add URL's to posts yet as I'm a new user) I noticed that the users are saying that the settings will get 3G working, there was no mention of GPRS. Do you think my phone is defaulting to GPRS becuase it can't get 3G working?
Thanks!
I have exactly the same problem on orange. worked fine on wm6.5 but once i flashed android have had a night mare finding 3g coverage, but alot of ppl have 3g coverage on a nand android been trying to figure out why cant i, i also have that G but its really slow internet and cant talk on pingchat etc, gonna ring orange tomorrow n see if they can fix it/give me correct settings.

My 2G network option was always unchecked, but thanks for commenting anyway.
I seem to have a pretty much fully working connection now. I had the G icon (GPRS) when at work the other day, but once I went home I managed to get an E icon (EDGE), which was much faster. I don't know if I'll be able to get any faster than that (i.e. 3G or HSDPA), as I am assuming that is partly to do with my settings but also partly down to geographic location and coverage etc. But at least I have something now, I am very grateful for that much
In addition, my GPS seems to be working too (I started this post of with neither GPS nor my mobile networks working). It takes some time to get a lock on me, but it gets there after a few minutes. Fantastic!
Thanks so much to everyone who posted comments, I appreciate them all
I hope you get your problem sorted, LaneyEFC. I'd definitely recommend getting the APN settings from your network provider, my problems went once I got that step right!
