udk Syrius R4 issues - Touch Cruise ROM Development

As the original thread seems to be a bit out of hand currently I decided post some issues I am having with R4 on a separate thread.
First of all a big thanks to udk for his time and effort on this rom - it gets better and better with every release.
Call quality. Although this has increased significantly in this release, I am still getting poor reception in some areas on my POLA100. I only have good reception with the original shipping ROM.
Audio Manager. Seems to be crashing in TFLO3D and also when loading manually. I am not sure if it is because my music is on the SD card or the fact that the files contain greek characters. I am guessing the latter but cant really tell.
Keyboards. Buttons are a bit small (or my fingers are a bit big). Tried to install the diamond keyboards cab but they dont show up at all.

TTN7 slow
I noticed that TTN7 worked slow in that rom, is it the same for some of you ? What solution do you advise ? A change of Radio ? Thanks

funny thing is that i have none of theze problems, i love r4 together with my pola100

I am experiencing heavy memory consumption (around 77%) even after Soft Reset. With R1 I had around 55%- DonT know if its a R4 thing because I skipped 2 and 3

Memory leak
can any one confirm a memory leak in R4. it begins with 36 MB of free ram and decreases gradually even though i close all programs with the task manager.
i noticed that specially when using opera

Memory problems
I have the same issue in R4. Memory is fast full and system crashes therefore after a while (or turns very slow).

The ROM is slow if u don'ttune the GYLCACHE to 8192. After setting the GYLCACHE, it's quite fast.

More issues
Things couldnt go any worse as my polaris rebooted byitself while i was starting media player and now its in a reboot loop. I am flashing again.

I can't seem to keep my bluetooth headset paired in any of the newest ROMs including this one, works when first pairing, then when you try to reconnect the bluetooth symbol flashes but no headphone symbol comes up and no connection is made, must repair the two. Anyone else have this?

Just flashed twice and the device wont start at all. Going to the official ROM i guess

How can I adapt these values? I assume with registry editor? I installed one now and tried to look for GYLCACHE, but could not find anything in the registry.
Could you tell me, how to change this value? Thanks!
M

I can confirm. After using IE, Opera, PocketOutlook, PhotoAlbum => 72% memory used.
After releasing using Oxios, only 70% used...

Seems that proxy problems appears again. I Sync at work where we are using a proxy. When back at home, connecting to Internet via Wifi, can't connect... It says that connection is not setted up the good way.
This problem existed with previous version. Fixed in M-Amine2.0 and back here... A nightmare!

I have the memory leak and I had to repair my Jabra BT headset also twice.
But yesterday reconnecting worked... I will keep an eye on this.
Btw. I have reduced some values according to the perfomance thread. After a softreset I do have now 51% instead of 58%
But once I run through every tab in M2D it increases to 54%

I can also confirm the memory leak. Noticed the problem after using several tabs in Opera.

memory leak
I do also have a big memory leak but only after using Opera build 2745 which is the build cooked in R4 ROM.
Is this the latest Opera build?

there is also 2808 out in this forum. can you test and see if it does get better?
I was not able to search www.mobile.de with this build, Either Opera or manila closed.

HKLM\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit = 8192 or 16384

I found a major problem to me in this ROM is the performance of GPS positioning is slow everytime when I run the GPS software. I suspect the QuickGPS doesn't work although the latest file is downloaded.

Have you tried updating your radio?
btw. am i the only when who's sms messages arent marked as read when replying? when im in a sms conversating. the unread count juts keeps going up couse they arent marked as read anymore after replying. it did work in earlier roms.

Memory Leak + ****ty Battery life + Lockups = Getting tired!

I don't know.. ever since I got my brand new O2 Exec I've been getting less and less productive in work. The machine is indeed cool, but only when it works. I'm early adapter but it's been for the past month or so that I'm working for the machine instead of the machine working for me.
Memory leaks are out of this world. Memory is not freed up many times and I end up easily with 3mb of free ram even if no program is on. The battery life is terrible (to say the least) compared to my good old PDA2K (even with it's over 1yrs old battery! it blasts the Exec memory miles away)
Lately, the amount of lockups I am getting is simply unbearable. machine freezes.. sometimes the left soft button's caption (i.e "phone") graphics is seen like a small white box or something(as if all the letter go over each other) and then machine freezes. Something an alert comes up and then machine freezes. I can't trust the machine for business use, for games yes, but not for business.
Please note I don't have many programs running at all, no wisbar or cosmetic stuff like that., no SPB Plus and stuff like that. Just PocketInformant, PocketBreeze, phoneAlarm all of which are must have for me as well as some utils i relay on. I am wondering maybe my ROM is outdated, but I didn't see an update from O2 yet (I don't want to install NO_ID tool and flush other roms than OS own due to warrenty issues)
I have OS2 Exec with following ver:
ROM version: 1.13.82 WWE
ROM date: 11/30/05
Radio version: 1.04.02
Protocol version: 42.37.P8
ExtROM version: 1.13.188 WWE
Is there any Official update from O2 to any of these ?
Help is very much appreciated. That's before a 10kg hammer is blaster over the machine in an act of anger.. lol
MOBILER
Here are my suggestions:
1st Upgrade to the latest I-Mate Jasjar ROM. It is definitely faster than the shipped ROM from O2 and highly stable.
ROM version: 1.30.76 WWE
ROM date: 02/20/06
Radio version: 1.09.00
Protocol version: 42.42.P8
ExtROM version: Delete and install only what you need.
2nd I use Oxios Memory which has 2 useful applications in it. Oxios Close apps and Oxios Hibernate. I learned about this here in one of the forums. It basically free up a substantial amount of unused memory. Here is a link: http://www.oxios.com/memory/
As far as battery is concerned. I don't have a problem with mine. I keep it plugged in every night to charge playing a lecture DVD while I sleep.
So far O2 has not released an update yet. The last official ROM they released, I believe you are already using it. Let us hope when they do release something it would have the complete Windows Mobile Update support for BT headsets and Push email.

Thanks man, I highly appreciate your detailed helpful response, but two issues :
1) As I said, I do not want to install the i-mate JJ ROM over the O2 one due to warrenty issues. So I think I would prefer to wait for the official O2 release thought I am starting to loose patience..
2) I also use the MagicButton app on my Exec. It seems very efficient at closing programs and switching tasks with minimal memory footprint. I'll look into the program you mentioned, but I doubt that's the problem. My machine has memory leaks because even when programs are all closed after several hours of use I can get down to 3mb free RAM.

Do you use the brilliant SBSH Ilauncher as this has very bad memory leaks being looked into at the moment
@mobiler,
we must have twins! I have mentioned similar problems with my Exec to those you discovered and when I reported them here people were unhappy and accused me of not knowing how to use a Exec properly!
You may want to look at the following:
1. Powersave does reduce battery drain but you may a slight delay to being alterted to incoming calls
2. Reformat your SD card if you use data files (eg music, ebooks etc) a lot. I found that MS Reader and Windows Media player were not happy with the use of Powersave - often I would get a systems crash after restarting the device. But after a reformat of the SD card the device was much more stable
3. You can get good quality spare batteries now for the Universal from www.mobilefun.co.uk
I had a few issues with PhoneAlarm, nice piece of software does exactly what I wanted as well, apart from I had some compatability issues.
Slowed the phone down alot and if my memory serves me correctly ( I have a few too many memory leaks of my own going on ) made the phone freeze a couple of times.
Tried the trial version of Pocket Informant ( had it as standard on an IPAQ HX4700 and quite liked it ) but that caused me a few problems.
I now keep things simple, using PocketZenPhone for switching profiles ( very nice and simple solution ). Use the O2 web site to keep track of number of txts sent and phone call allowance.
SPBGPRS monitor for the obvious monitoring of GPRS usage.
Using the standard contacts and calender ( does me ok but not as flexible )
And I have just started messing about with Wisbar, No problems as off yet.
Personally I have found all problems with the phone are linked to software incompatabilities.
I am still in warrenty with O2 but have updated to the latest ROM and radio and if for any reason it has to go back I will try and flash back but my way of thinking is that I should be allowed to change to any ROM image I want in the same way as load any software I want.
Dont know if that is of any help at all, just my views on trying the same software. Regardless of how good they are, they caused problems for me so now I dont use them and everything seems to be running ok.
I know this is anachistic but I am also annoyed by the occasional reboot and have discovered (shock horror) that having as few TSRs running (i.e. none) as possible much reduces this. I used to run magic button and I am convinced that this caused the occasional lockup. These days I only have vbar (2.2) installed and run it at times of need (i.e. I don't run it all the time) as well as using the memory item in the settings to kill programs.
Running the virgin corporate install o2 ROM with no TSRs. Using PIE and Netfront, and the built in outlook, together with a number of games, has meant that my xda is quite reliable. I am hoping that my 'once every 2-3 days reboot' will be gone once the new xda rom comes out
I can also recommend memmaid to occasionally clear our broken registry settings.
WM5 has been a painfull experience for the PDA manufacturers. If you think we are having a bad time you should read the stuff about the dell axim x50 upgrade on aximsite. I am hoping that WM5.1 will be a free install for universal users as this will make the os more robust.
On an optimistic note the chipset employed by the universal is well used and very reliable in many applications, the construction is robust, so IMHO it all comes down to software/firmware which we hope will improve.
I suppose that is what I was getting at.
Keep it simple.
Whether it is a stability problem with WM5 or just the third party software solutions I dont know.
But when I keep it simple, it works and works well.
I never mentioned battery life earlier, this weekend I went away with a full charge, granted I took another smaller phone with me but I did use it quite heavily ( playing Bejewelled, surfing the net and sending MMS ) and it was always on .
This morning it was on about 40% charged. Not too bad I thought compared to previous Windows Mobile phones I have had.
I use memmaid as well to do a bit of house keeping.
I was using spbPocketPlus mainly for its Task Handling, but thought I would give WisBar a shot. Having a proper close option to hand is very handy and should be included as a standard option in any version of Windows Mobile.
If I am not using a program I want it to be shut down properly. Like using a PC I only have the programs running that I am using.
FWIW, I am new to this device, but not to PPC, so I am familiar with minimize/close distinction. My orange SPV M5000 loses about .3MB per program invocation. I shut down programs using either the program's own Exit function (where it exists) or the Memory tab in the settings area. But the memory is slowly eroded. The worst culprit is Activesync to my laptop, that consumes around 5MB that never comes back. After a soft reset there is about 23MB free, this quickly drops to around 18, then steadily drops. Something in the OS is not releasing memory. I have to soft reset to get the memory back (which takes about 3 minutes).
I suppose that is what I was getting at.
Keep it simple.

Have you tried using the Exec in Corporate mode? It works fine for me
@ChristopherTD, I setup a dummy Activesync server and then set Activesync to manual and I have found this make my Exec more stable - perhaps it is because it does not lose as much RAM as before.
It is surprising that after 6/9 months of WM5 availability that we are still having instability problems with major/popular WM5 apps. I only use GSPMagic, Agenda Fusion, MS Reader and Opera. Only GSPMagic and AgendaFusion have been trouble-free.
WM5 was intended for programs to keep running. I know we like to hack our machines to death + sometimes the memory gets too full and you have to kill stuff. But sometimes if you keep MS stuff running, and don't kill it all the time with something like magic button, you find the system runs better.
I have activesync, contacts, outlook and PIE open all the time. I used to kill activesync all the time and I think this caused problems.
Normally my games have proper exit buttons, together with pRSSReader (totally excellent program). For the MS built in programs I tend to leave them running as the OS was designed for this.
Wow I think its pretty clear I ended up with a good unit afterall, either that or o2 really really messed up with your ROMS.
I have to charge my battery every night but thats to be expected with the usage I have. And im running Wisbar Lite, PhoneAlarm, PocketBreeze, and Wisbar Advance Desktop, all no worries, the only time I notice a distinct loss of memory is after player Warring Nations.
I feel for you guys, I think your summing it up that your working on your device as opposed to it working for you says it all.
Thanks for all the responses. You're all great guys!

Thanks, I felt I was the only one having problems Anyway:
1) I am always in powersave, still loosing battery power.
2) I just purchased a new SD card yesterday because I thought that may have caused the problems, but it's not it.. same problems.
3) I'll look into spare batteries, thanks for the link

I appreciate the reply.
1) I've purchased and used phoneAlarm for about a year straight with my PDA2K and it never failed me any problems. I consider it a must have, and since it ran quite smoothly on my PDA2k I don't see why it should cause the Exec these issues. Further, I did remove it and still exeprienced the same issues, so that's not the problem either.
2) I've used PocketInfromant for 1.5 years now and no problem on my old PDA2K.

Thanks for the reply, I've been using MagicButton for almost as long as I can remember and it never failed me. It worked superb on my PDA2K. Further, I tried removing it for a few days to check how things would work without it. Same lockups, same memory leaks, same mediocre performance, unfortunately (or fortunately) this isn't the problem either.

Pitty, that's not the issue with my machine as I already did that trick 2 weeks ago.
I just ran memaid to see what running processes do I have and I see to be having the following ones. Note that I have no running programs in the background and no today plugins enabled whasoever, just VoiceCommand I guess is working in the background but that's it. It seems to me that the WM5 core doesn't freeup memory.
Here's what memaid reports
gwes.exe 5.26MB
device.exe 2.83MB
filesys.exe 2.41MB
cprog.exe 2.29MB
VoiceCmd.exe 1.81MB
shell32.exe 1.51MB
(smaller processes below
tmail.exe 275.57KB
services.exe 159.81KB
connmgr.exe 115.81KB
MemMaid.exe 27.90KB
psShutXP.exe 11.90KB
srvtrust.exe 7.90KB
Nk.exe 0 bytes
the most memory you can clear is about 26-29mbytes. The rest of the running processes need to be there. There is a good thread somewhere on what each process does, will post it if I come across it again.
29mb is disappointing considering there is 64mbyte memory, but thats the way WM5 works.
rgds
I've got a O2 XDA ii (himalaya) and im running wm2005 2.01.64
After a soft reset I have 31.x MB or RAM left, even if I dont run a single program or make a single phone call within say 6hours my RAM is at 21-24MB. This has nothing to do with not correctly closing programs but either a wm2005 leak or in my case a lot of the problem is being pointed at SBSH Ilauncher.
Well here is a comparison just done a soft reset started memaid and my results are in brackets after yours for the ones in common running :-
gwes.exe 5.26MB ( 4.6 MB )
device.exe 2.83MB ( 1.46 MB )
filesys.exe 2.41MB (1.82 MB )
cprog.exe 2.29MB ( 1.46 MB )
VoiceCmd.exe 1.81MB
shell32.exe 1.51MB ( 1.21 MB )
(smaller processes below
tmail.exe 275.57KB
services.exe 159.81KB ( 315.76 kb )
connmgr.exe 115.81KB ( 115.81 kb )
MemMaid.exe 27.90KB (23.0 kb )
psShutXP.exe 11.90KB
srvtrust.exe 7.90KB (7.9 kb )
Nk.exe 0 bytes ( 0kb )
also I have :-
Wisbaradv2.exe 787.71 kb
sddaemon.exe 67.9 kb
Pimhelper.exe 11.9 kb
Poutlook,exe 3.9 kb
( i have Wisbar, SPBdiary and pocketzenphone open )
going to have a look later tonight to see if anything changes.
ROM Ver. 1.30.76
Radio 1.09.00
ExtRom ver 1.30.164
I had similar problems when I first bought my O2 exec (on Ebay).
I downloaded the latest update from O2 website and re-flash the phone. I used Corporate install. So far it has been solid and I am even using the phone with Goodlink without a problem.
About the same time I bought the phone, I bought a 2G SD card (sandisk) , when I got the card I insalled a few software on this card (TCMP and Total Commander). Everytime I ran those applications, I can see that the phone crawls like a snail and worse it hangs. It even take a long time for me to transfer files from my laptop to the SD card even when I used a SD Card reader.
I replaced the SD card with a 2G MMC+ (Kingston) and I install the same apps. My phone is working as it should be, I can say that I didnt experience any hanging at all and it was never slow as well. I can even upload a ripped DVD movie on the phone faster compared to when I used the SD card. Right now I have one full season of Alias in my MMC+ card.
I have the phone setup to turnoff after a period of time (3 minutes) when there is no activity as opposed to others that they wanted to have the settings uncheck Start>Settings>Power. I also make sure that the backlight is set to a minimun when on battery and I uncheck the part where the phone will not recieve all incoming beam.
So far, my phone has been stable and battery lasts for 3 days.
From personal experience I found wisbar caused issues with the phone not ringing on an incoming call. It would ring for the first call after a soft reset and then stop for any further calls...
The other major issue which could cause delays and slowness is installing to the sd card any apps which ought to be installed to ram. ie: today plugins etc.

JASJAR Slow wakeup and dialing

Hay,
I'm using i-mate jasjar, and since day 1 (bought it sep 2005) i've had the problem of slow wakeup and generally slow response. I've run suggested apps such as pocket mechanic etc to remove duplicate wake-up hooks etc, with only slight effect. I've tried several ROMs, none better than the other... I have no extra software installed (i don't want to make it slower than it already is!)
*From i hit a button till the device is (awake) accepting commands takes 10-20 secs...
*From someone starts ringing till my phone is awake enough to start ringing takes 8-10 seconds. clicking the answer button takes another 5+ seconds.
*Dialing is slow (pressing numbers), i suspect it's the DTMF .wav files that take time to load. If i dial too fast, the order of keys pressed are messed up! (say i dial 1-2-3-4, phone takes 4-5 seconds to react, then types 1-2-4-3)
*When i have the usb on, and screen is on, from i click start button, it takes 5-10 seconds before it's displayed. I've tracked this down to a problem reading the icons of certain programs.. any fix for this?
I'm using rom 1.30.76(ext .164), radio 1.09.
This is the latest i-mate rom.
Is my device faulty or is this normal behaviour? Should i try another ROM? Is there any unbranded *good* ROMs out there?
please help,
Michael
VERY abnormal! I had same issue. Solved it here:

Hope it's the same thing for you. If not, work HARD on ID'ign what's on the SD card - and do my test I descroibe with the SD card removed - I bet you see an immediate improvmeent.
Try this
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\"
Change "CacheSize" value from "0" naar "4096".
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0x1000(4096)"
Change "EnableCache" value to "1"
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\"
Change "ReplStoreCacheSize" value to "4096"
disable the 3D phone skin and use the default one it dont has the feature where when typing in a number thats already in the phone book will show . it also looks flat . but its fast .check wiki registry hacks for it . if that dont work install the latest o2 rom with out o2 crap apps then get sktools use sktools and config divise to proformance. trust me it will make your divice fast as wip.
faster than all cooked roms on here
Hi again,
cragiecragie4, I tried removing SD card, no improvement whatsoever on speed.
niketkumar, I tried the cache registry changes, no improvements.
tattootroy, I've run several performance optimizing programs but none make it for the better. What makes this app different?
I still suspect my device may be faulty or bugged, since my friend's device appears faster...
The old I-mate rom was alot faster than the current one, but i don't want to downgrade radio and functionality etc...
Any ROM suggestions?
I'm using the ROM covered here - seems good.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279258&page=1
Done a LOT of installation and work after basic re-flash, but overall I havn't found any bugs at all (despite what others complain about). Sorry, except that the .NET CF2.0 is badly installed.
Did you run my test? Remember that if you remove SD it will still be slow once, then fast thereafter. Did you work thro it properly. I SOOO had your symptoms, and was so pissed with the whole thing I was about to reflash - then I found that this was definitely the issue.

A new Touch hd owner needs advice!, pls.!

@all,
being an "old" xda-developer over from the artemis forums, i am awaiting my new touch hd within the next few days!
now i read through various posts from within your threads...and feel a complete novice again ( i wrote the sd-card-flashing wiki entry for artemis)...
- should i stay with the custom 6.1 rom in order to not fight with battery drains - i read plenty custom roms drain battery within a day
- tomtom seems to create a couple of worries, read the "compatible software entry on wiki for touch hd" - but according to some posts this doesnt seem to be fully upto date - does tomtom 7450 run?
any help highly appreciated!

I ran an older version of Tom Tom 7 (might have been 7.2?) and it ran with no issues whatsoever.
For your first question, did you mean should u stay with the stock 6.1 ROM instead of changing to a custom one? If that's the case, then I'd say that new manila is totally worth the ROM swap. and as far as battery drain, I haven't noticed a difference. I think battery drain is more dependent on what radio you're using. I heard the new Radio drains battery faster (but better GPS). I've stayed with stock radio so far, but have changed ROMs several times and have noticed no difference in battery life. For me, under heavy (daily) use, the HD manages a full day. (this includes around 6 hours of music/radio, a couple phone calls and txts, email dling every 30min., facebook status downloading every 2 hours. and some internet.) I'm very content with the battery life.
oh, and WELCOME TO THE BLACKSTONE PORTION OF THE FORUM!

@all,
being an "old" xda-developer over from the artemis forums, i am awaiting my new touch hd within the next few days!
now i read through various posts from within your threads...and feel a complete novice again ( i wrote the sd-card-flashing wiki entry for artemis)...

Haha same thing happened to me. After being idle for like 2 years, now i find that things changed alot... there are talking about SPL HSPL USPL and nbh files... But I adore the HD its just everything you need... You will love it.
Thanx for your infos,
basically sums up what i have been collecting browsing through them threads
roms are built on *.nbh, yet i cant find anything on sd-card-flashing - does that mean it doesnt work, flashing from sd?
Greetz
Flashing from SD works fine, there are threads scattered around the forum but nothing on the wiki as yet (?). From what I gather, limitations include people reporting problems flashing from >4GB cards and Transcend cards not working. I have successfully flashed images from a SanDisk 4GB Class 2.
The image file needs to be placed in the root of a blank FAT32 formatted card (I used a blocksize of 32k), with the filename of "BLACIMG.nbh", then perform a hard-reset by powering on the device while holding the Vol Down button.
I use TomTom Ver 7.450 with absolutely no problems on Dutty's V2.6 ROM in landscape mode. However, there is an issue with the latest radio ver 1.13.25.24, which is what I am using. The satellite signal strength bars do not display anymore, but TomTom gets a great, fast fix with this radio ROM. This is apparently due to the fact that the new Radio ROM has opened up more channels for the GPS receiver and the ver of TomTom I am using can't cope with this. It has been reported to work well with later versions of TomTom.
Hope this helps.
battery will be a problem... :-(
Dear friend,
I have the HD since November. I still have not switched to a cooked rom. I am enjoying it as is for now! But as far as battery is concerned I confirm that the battery drains very fast with the official rom. Especially if you use wifi or 3g connection (even in stand by) it drains in about 12hrs! Actually I intended to look in the forum for this ...
Apart from that, TF3D is buggy (especially with the mp3 player). Compared to the iphone it is much slower and less stable. You can expect that since iphone is unix flavor and wm6 is microsoft(!). But it has great many advantages overall making it an excellent choice at least for me.
Enjoy!
GPS navigation
I forgot. I use MN 7.3.1, for Europe I think it is the best...
Welcome too this part of the forum =)
First of all I'd like to reply on the flashing bit.
When I got my HD, the battery drianed within a day, but that was mostly because I played alot with it:
(internet using hdspa, phoning, trying games, programs and etc.)
These days I have Dutty's ROM 2.3Xtreme with the new 1.13.25.24 radio with some special settings in the program "Advanced Configuration".
Settings like "shutdown HDSPA after 1 minute of non-usage".
And "sync mail every 15 minutes between 6AM and 0AM".
Furthermore I keep on using Memmaid 2.2 which is a program that deletes cached files which reduce the usage of your ROM (don't know if it helps but it will make your HD way faster after you used it).
I use Tomtom 7 and it works great!
I think you'll experience the same batterydrains the first few days because you won't be able to lay it down and keep it still.
If you're not happy with the stock ROM, functionalities and so forth, you should reconsider flashing it.
Good luck with it!
grmbl,
that really makes me wonder,
is it worth paying a really good bargain 475 euros,
...and dumping my p3300, which under normal use lasts me 5-7 days, flight-mode overnight, flawlessly running any tomtom version and these days valuing in at about a mere 100 euros...and a machine which is simply an all day device i dont have to worry too much about- and be able to simply use it (accepting a shake and a bump here and there)...thats somehow not far away from why i dumped the iphone....well, lets see when it gets here...
greetz
Using flightmode overnight should increase your batterylife with a few hours.
Max. a half day.
Is there any newbie flashing gudie somewhere, and if i flash it, how do i get back teh original one? Any rom got "flip-it" buildt in? SMS in landscape mode?

All your questions are answered in full glorious details in the ROM section. As for flip it, Dutty's new ROMs use it. Other ROMs have landscape mode enabled as well, although it may be with various other methods.
howdy,
my mind is made up - i am gonna keep the touch hd!
now, before killing my custom firmware, how does dutty compare to miri, rom-wise?
and, havin had that battery drain in many of them cooked roms over at the artemis forums as well, what is the latest OFFICIAL radio rom? is there an extracted download?
in the times when drains occured in the artemis roms, some "researchers" went into testing labs, and found out that all drains resulted from a constant "polling" of the radio for a signal, whereas the original radio version decreased its polling ratio once a signal was found!
this concludes that after flashing a standalone radio rom with an official version, drains faded drastically!
Thanx for your guys help,
greetz

Igo8 failed to reserve virtual address

I have the following issue with Igo8:
When I want to start Igo8 it says: "failed to reserve virtual address"! After soft-reset Igo8 starts normal.
Can someone know something about this issue?
Same problem here. RAM Cleaner doesn't solve the issue either. For me, it seems that the problem only occurs if I already started iGO8 earlier; it doesn't occur if I've got the phone running for multiple days without starting iGO8.
Yes the same with my TP2 and IGO8....
This problem has been bugging me too. RAM cleaner fixed it for me once on a level 3, but never did since. I'm thinking memory leak?
I have the same problem too, what I did was usually I disable the T3D before I run the iGO8 (8.3.2.x), this usually help without have to reset my TP2. That is why iGO support said they did not cerified it work on TP2 (even most people said it work great on TP2). Used at your own risk.
I have experienced this issue few times, ussually when I turned it on for the third or forth time (or later on) in a given time, soft reset fixed it.
I am experiencing the same strange behaviour.
I have to shut down and then it restarts correctly.
Obviously it's not a certified device
Thanks for your replies. It's really annoying to soft-reset the device everytime, when I need IGO8. I hope to find a solution for this annoying problem...
Update to the latest version Jun 8 2009, 8.3.2.93112.
I think they solved the problem.

I still have the problem with that version. What made you think that version fixes it? Any reference?

Where can I find this official update? I have regularly bought mine and it has a lower reference number...
I allready have the latest version of IGO8 (Jun 8 2009, 8.3.2.93112). But thx for your advice though...
Hi Guys,
I was having the very same issue with my TP2 but it seems I managed to trick it by using the following sequence of events.
1. Disable TF3D
2. Soft-Reset the device
3. Once the device was operational again I started iGO8
4. Exit iGO8 then re-enable TF3D
5. Start iGO8 again and check if it works (it did for me)
6. Soft-Reset the device again and let it load all it's stuff including TF3D.
7. Start again iGO8 to check if it would still work (it did for me).
Well... it works for me since then, but on another note I don't have too many softwares installed on my device at this time so I'm not sure whether or not iGO is having memory leak problems. I'm pretty sure that the issue is coming from an incompatibility between TF3D and the iGO interface and also the same was confirmed by other people on the various forums.
Right now I'm using the latest available iGO8 v8.3.2.93112 (not instaled just running it straight from the storage card).
I hope the above would help you out, but in any case should anybody find a better stable solution, please let us know about it.
Cheers,
Hello this is a memory problem...i have notice if the ram is under 70 MB this error will come.....
Hi All
Yes, this is solely a memory (RAM) problem.
What is the problem you may ask, well, the phone takes a truckload of RAM to simply ...run.
Consider this.
Specified RAM - 288mb.
Available 'total' RAM - 288mb, minus 100mb = 188mb.
RAM in use (OS + TFlo) - 288mb, minus 100mb, minus up to 130mb = 60mb.
Available RAM to actually use is often 60mb or less with no running apps!!!!
This is a serious issue with this phone, it is not fair and even misleading for the consumer - i mean really, not enough memory to run just ONE app!!!
(Granted, a GPS app is large, but the device does have the chip, doesn't it?)
C'Mon.... I bought a phone with 288mb of RAM, not 60mb - [email protected]%#[email protected]!!!!!!!
Don't get me started on the specified ROM size of 512mb, of which we get to actually use just 277mb....
Cheers to all

I think that this is not the problem. My kaiser will run Igo8 With high resolution, buildings, TTS enabled, etc with just 25mb free memory. why can my kaiser do it with 25 mb and the TP2 not with 60mb free memory?
Verry strange...
The second thing that I dont understand is that the problem will come directly after starting IGO8. My kaiser will run slow or crash when it has too less memory remaining. but by the TP2 it will give an error directly after starting and BEFORE loading the app... This will give me the idea that it is a verry simple and basic problem...
update: I've noticed that IGO8 will run fine on the TP2 with Touch flo 3D disabled with only 35mb ram...
Ranney
Well, ran into the same problem on my Igo8 too. Like others said, I have to soft reset it everytime when I encounter that problem...really frustrating it will waste you couples of minutes to do soft reset and wait for the apps to comes out.
Well, i have tried all versions, but still getting the same stupid virtual address. Almost give up, but I like Igo8 interface very much.
I dont know this is really works for you or not. Without me realized after I have installed SecondToday and then ran my Igo8 from here, then I never have this problem again EVER!!! I am a heavy user of this Igo8, cos every where i go, i depend on this gps software. Now I never have this problem again. Thanks Godness.
Hope this help.
hi,
I have got similar issues but in my case it was (most likely) due to the skin I was using (gurjon 6.9.2p).
After I reverted back to the original igo's skin, I have not been reported with any error since last few days.
I am using 8.3.2.97313 [July 3rd] release.
I'm wondering whether a newer WM6.5 ROM will solve it. Maybe Manilla 2.5 (or 6) may make a difference. I'm currently playing around with NRG's ROM, and will monitor iGo8 over the coming days.
i use windows mobile 6.5 without any touchflow. and i have to softreset too.
i can start igo8 any time i want but if i dont softreset before, i will lost the gps signal every 10 seconds.

ROM 1.48 improvements (formerly...GPS issue...)

I recently upgraded to the 1.48 ROM, initial reactions were positive - does seem a bit snapier, SMS is sent quicker, there is noticeably less hissing on phone calls - overall seemed better. Then I tried to use GPS, I always allowed Windows to manage it on this and other devices and it worked very well then and in ROM 1.43 but not after upgrade. Under All Settings - System - External GPS I've always been able to assign a COM other than "none" under the Hardware tab. After the upgrade when I change the value and hit ok, when I return it has been reset to none. Even though Windows is managing GPS automatically (box is checked) no programs can access GPS. Has anyone else experienced this as well - is there any fix?
Thanks
-edit -
A soft reset allowed windows to automatically manage the GPS??? and it does work, though still cannot make changes to external GPS under hardware tab - does not matter though since it does work!
Thread modified - I think it would better serve the community to share experience with users who want to upgrade ROM to 1.48. HTC's upgrade description is cryptic and vague - some wonder if it's worth the upgrade.
I'm pretty sure that it would happen also with 1.43/1.61.
I'd suggest you have a look using HTCs GPS tool (dont have link for it) or any other COM-sniffing application. If that comes out negative, try hardreset or reflash rom.
Just my two cents.
Havent read any other posts about this and it seems that many have flashed 1.48/1.61/2.01 roms and no complaints about about the GPS.
Thanks for the help guys, got it sorted. I changed the thread to help those who want to upgrade.
Some user experiences with the new ROM...
- As mentioned, cannot change hardware GPS com port, though it does work when managed automantically.
- No changes noticed with Opera, it works just the same as before, I don't see any difference in switching between landscape and portrait as HTC claims.
- The new radio brings an improvement, there is noticably less static and hiss before a call is connected, the call clarity is slightly improved as well.
- The home tab in sense operates more fluidly, the clock animation is not as jumpy and weather animation is smoother. overall program swithcing / use seems as good as before (maybe SLIGHTLY better - you'd really have to concentrate to notice any of this snappier preformance)
- SMS messages are sent and recieved MUCH faster than before, when I send an SMS it takes only a few seconds for the receipient to recieve - this is WITHOUT the SMS hotfix.
Will post again with any other comments including any noticed changes to battery life. Hope this helps those who were confused by HTC's ambiguous description of what this new ROM brought to the table.
