The list goes on. This is truly a terrible device. If it wasnt for the times that things did work fully (rare) and the money I paid for it, it would truly be in the bin!!!
I have read the forums and even after all the hard work people have put in to try and isolate the problems, all of them seem to end up unconclusive regarding the issues I have. I am at my teathers end with this device (
How can the XDA people get away with this, surely they have been approacned about these things? And they say the 2i is better than the 2, blimey I dread to think.....
end rant, thanks for listening
a very disheartened XDA2i user
I recently got an XDAIIi and agree with your post, although 4 is understandable as you shouldn't really be using bluetooth on a plane
I think a lot of the problems are related to third-party software - it might be useful to compare lists of what we have installed, for example I tried out TomTom too and found it ruined the device's stability.
The multiple GPRS connection problem is probably caused by the GPRS monitor program that came on the CD. I had this problem, I uninstalled GPRS Monitor, and GPRS connects correctly every time now.
The camera software is completely flawed, each alternate horizontal line is interchanged before conversion to jpg hence the rubbish quality of the images. Not sure about the horisontal line, but in indoor evening light my XDAIIi was only able to take blurry silhouettes, probably a bug in the automatic brighness control. The camera driver seems to have been sloppily ported from a version for different hardware, and released untested.
The mic pick-up is terrible, and the AGC doesn't seem to make any difference, I get far more people unable to make out what I'm saying than with the plain XDAII. I presume this is another software bug in the AGC.
7 might actually be the bug with all pocketPCs - only the email account currently "open" will auto-download new items periodically.
Also the alarms seem even worse than on normal pocketPCs. As ever I installed WakeupTweak but this time I still missed alarms on a 60s wakup, and had to extend it to 90s.
I have installed Pocket Informant, TT3 (this didnt seem to make anything worse) and have a 1Gb Lexar SD. I did install the GPRS monitor but have since removed it. I think my SD card could be faster, but we keep making excuses for this device.
Re 4, well this was to experiment, as the TT3 crashing has been suggested to be caused by the phone changing cells, but being a Bluethooth GPS I needed flightmode on aswell as BT, which is just about possible but with no definded method other than to confuse it?!? Why the blue blazes they try to force these things I don't know!! I am hoping TT5 will improve this.
re 7. yes i undertand and accept that, but the last one I entered just wont do anything, but not too bothered.
So, as a phone, its rubbish (no speaker phone, crashes, bulky), as a camera it's especially rubbish, as a PDA its ok with wireless in the home, but so long as you dont ask it to do anything out of doors, or even indoors.
These appear on startup, they probably need updating, but not sure where to get the official UK ones

Look forward to hearing about other peoples gripes, next stage with me is probably back to the shop and probably an arguement with some o2 dude.
Perhaps I'm being picky, perhaps I should be happy about giving money away for nothing.
Just scanning through your posts about the IIi. I have had one for about 6 weeks now and haven't experienced any of the problems you describe (not complaining, of course )
I agree that the camera and AGC are not great, but mine behaves itself -- almost typed 'perfectly' there, but that's tempting fate.
I have TT3.07 & Alturion (via a Navman 4410), PocketBreeze 4.3, SPB pocket Plus (+weather add-on)various wifi scanning type programs (I'm a computer tech), a bluetooth neckset, not headset/earpeice and misc. other GPSDash type apps.
Added to this I'm trialling some VITO (navigation/remote/voicedialler) apps and about 300MB of MP3's on a 1GB Sandisk SD card.
My Rom versions are the same as tauria's -- I guess we should all have the same -- there aren't any upgrades/mods yet are there?
The only thing I don't use is GPRS -- don't need it!, otherwise its straight out of the box and saturated in utils and mahjonng/solitaire ( a techies life is sometimes a solitary one  )
I can't offer any advice or help with your problems because I'm not experiencing them, just wanted to add my experience to yours as a sort of balance.
Is it possible you have a couple of rogue devices? or is it possible someone just crayoned an 'i' on mine before sending it out
Me again, I have rememebered that I performed a hard reset and opted for a corporate install, based on some posts relating to the O2 Active software causing problems -- do you have this installed?
I seem to recall there were several thread on this issue, so I went the corporate route to minimise problems.
Maybe that's an area you could look at?
blackfoot I was wondering if you could answer a question.
I just got my mobile phone number transferred to my XDA's SIM today so have used it as a phone for the first time, if i switch off the device (so it's a black screen but phone still active) and it rings it switches on but it just freezes (this only happens with pocketbreeze on the today plugin) I see the fact that the phone is ringing but the box doesn't pop up.
Is there anyway to make pocketbreeze not refresh its data when a call is incoming ? Or does anyone have the same problem?
Hi all,
Pretty much got this thing working OK now. I do have a few 'issues' which maybe you could help with:
1. Speed is just about bearable except in one case: It takes 6 seconds (!!!) to switch between keyboard and transcriber when in notes (or any other program needing input). This makes it nearly unusable for me Any ideas what might be causing this?
2. I really miss the old WM2003 functionality in phone of clicking the left d-pad to access speed dial and the right d-pad to access histroy. Is there any way of restoring this funcionality?
3. This is probably a silly one but hte camera seems to default to landscape mode. I find this hard to use. Is it possible for it to come up in portrait?
Hope you can help.

I agree that switching between different text entry types is PAINFULLY slow. I thought it was a problem with mine, in fact I was thinking of doing a hard reset to try and fix the problem. I'll wait on that now.
Yes the camera is in landscape mode. It took me a few days to get used to it, now I don't even notice it.
its purely down to the slow cpu. if you clock the chip to 252mhz, its a lot quicker.
quite frankly, there is no excuse for HTC to use this cpu in the latest products. everything else about this device rocks! my first pocketpc was 200mhz like what? 5 - 6 years ago?
(im not trying to start a flame war)
Cant say i've noticed speed to be an issue, but then again, i'm used to using the xda exec. I've had my prophet for 5 1/2 hours now and i'm loving it - sooo much quicker than the exec.
I've not noticed the slowness changing between input types either, but i'm sure in time i will.
What rom are you running? mine is the i-mate jamin :
Rom : 1.0.9.25 WWE
Date : 09/01/06
Radio : 01.14.20
Protocol : 4.0.13.25
ext rom : 1.0.9.114
Only one issue i've noticed, the loudspeaker on the back is piss poor - it distorts even when i receive a text message
Cheers
Paul
Same software here exactly. This thing isn't massively slow, it just manages to lag enough on just about everything to be irritating to the point that I'm about to get shot of it

input methods
Switching between input methods is painfully slow for me as well. I also occassionally have the problem where an alternative input method (such as the phone pad, or the keyboard for CE Star) fails to appear at all, and instead I'm given the standard virtual keyboard.

Overall I'm really happy with my Jamin. I came from using a Jam. The battery life is great compared to the Jam, especially while using WiFi. At this point the only thing that bothers me as far as speed goes is the text entry method change everything else is fine.....However, I have done all the reg hacks for speed improvement and installed the overclocker app which I only use with video or on some really heavy web pages,Skype etc. With this device it is really worth the time and effort to do the tweaks. The easy way is to get Tweaks2K2.net, it is a program that will do the reg tweaks for you.
everyone raves about the battery life. i get average 5-7 hours of usage which is around 2 hours more than my original jam. the sad truth though is that if you put the same 416mhz intel chip in the jamin as the jam, i bet that the battery life would mirror that of the jam. ie, the effectively half cpu speed is what gives us all the extra batt life.
i want to test my jam clocked at 200mhz for a week, would be interesting to see what happens. should i get another couple of hours, then... i will be very angry

Looks at digital camera on my desk... Now what would I do if I wanted to take a portrait shot with that? Turn it on its side perhaps? Sorry, but come on.
Used omapclock to get up to 264Mhz, runs much smoother now.
Major problem for me in the ear piece speaker volume Not even half as clear as my SDA.
MS Voice Command is the program causing the text input method box to be really slow. Does anyone know a work around?
I too find the phone app lacking. Coming from a Treo600, i found very usefull the 4 assignable d-pad shortcuts.
That is right:
MS Voice Command is the app that does the 6 seconds pause on switching text input methods. Also cleaning the registry with SK Tools had this effect on my wizard (the Wizard has the same problem). One thing worked for me:
I did a backup with Spb Backup, made a hardreset and restored the backup. Text input change speed was back to normal (<1 second). Try it, maybe it will help.
But a warning: Spb Backup isn't as reliable in restoring your messages as Sprite Backup is. So to go the safe way make a backup with Sprite Backup, too, so that you can restore the Spb Backup without text messages and can separately restore the messages only from the Sprite Backup.
Post here whether this has worked for you!
Greetings
I think I'm going to leave well enough alone for now. MS Voice can wait until the next ROM upgrade which i've read should be coming any week now
Wizard G3,
ROM cooked by MFrazz, (WM6)
SPL/IPL DOWNgraded from 3.08 to 2.26 (not sure why or what this does?) GSM 2.47.11
I tried to install Launcher partially because I am a nerd who wants an iPhone screen for the shock value. I also installed the slider though I can't quite figure out where it has installed as it SEEMS to be in the folder (my folder) where Launcher is as opposed to in its own folder?? (which it should be if it is a stand-alone application?) In any event I don't use it as I cant get it (the most recent version) to stay on while Launcher is operating (and it doesn't seem to have been written with the Wizard landscape/portrait modes in mind) so I don't bother. Also the unit gets quite hot while launcher is on so I didn't want it to get any hotter!
In any event, looking in the log I see that Launcher.exe seems to have caused these curious access violations AND was giving the error message: CANNOT ALLOCATE VARIABLE LPARAM$, NOT ENOUGH MEMORY, (which I don't believe).
Is this some incompatibility with the ROM or something or does anyone know what is causing this please?
The only other problem with the unit is one which I have asked a few times (and a few people have reported) and no one knows the answer: The ear piece/speakerphone doesn't work on VoIP. I wouldn't imagine that is related to this error message.
Is there possibly a different ROM which would be more compatible with the software (and VoIP service) which doesn't incorporate things like the EDGE and Windows Today services which I don't use? I thought I was reasonably happy with this MFrazz one which seems OTHERWISE quite trouble free? Oh, and the battery heats up a bit and sometimes turns the screen white: On which eventuality you cant turn it on, - you have to plug in the USB cable again. (I turned the clock back to 195 from 221 to see if it did anything for this: If I cant get VoIP working just yet there doesn't seem to be any point in over-clocking it? And Mfrazz's ROM seems to work well at any clock speed! Except possibly for the codecs, if that is what it is )
I get nervous when I see access violations but this all occurred on July 7th.
Does it sound serious to anyone?
Here are some things that have been noticed so far with the R2 release of Xperia ROMs. Go through the list and cast your vote above.
(If you chose from the last two selections, then please post your ROM version - i.e. Swedish ROM, Vodafone UK, Generic UK, and so on... and also point out what points you disagree with)
The device now boots faster.
Faster menus - switching tabs in settings is quicker.
Programs launch quicker and file explorer is quick in loading folders.
Bluetooth Problem reported to be fixed. (I didn’t face any bluetooth problems with the old software and am not facing any now.)
Wi-Fi bug fixed.
Panel animation is a bit smoother but still laggy on switching from portrait to landscape and vice versa. Overall a faster panels experience.
Video playback has improved a lot! CP benchmark on a video resulted in 90-92% on the old ROM and is now increased to 98%.
Word prediction in most text-boxes.
Media Panel improvements including; music indexing is a lot faster, image scrolling is almost as smooth as it should be, changing tracks show information about the track at the bottom of the screen, and most importantly it now only shows pictures from the My Pictures and Camera folders on the main and internal storage – say goodbye to all those images from program files and windows showing up.
Camera improvements include faster focus lock and more stable focus. Preview is also smoother and introduces a new setting letting you define the frame rate to use for the video to shoot.
Furthermore, I think they updated the 3D drivers too. TouchFlo 3D is running way smooth - especially the Pictures and Media tabs! (flicking through pictures and music is quick and smooth) + Slide2Play is performing much better with this new updated ROM; quicker and smoother movement in landscape, switches album/song images correctly on song change, and games are also functioning way smoother than before.
Best Regards.
Salman Khalid.
I have the generic UK R2A ROM, and since flashing its definitely much better, the only points I cant be sure of are the games (dont have those extra) and the tf3d working better as I dont use that... but all the other points spot on and its humming now... fan-fricking-tastic...
I do agree with the points but still not a huge difference.
Pannel lag is the worst. This is the central point of the X1 and its crap still laggy as hell ok they boot slightly quicker but going from landscape to portraight is bad.
As for bluetooth fix so far its stayed on but im not completely satisfied until i get my tomtom back from repair and try it.
booting is about the same for me.
videos i need to test.
as for the extra games all they have doneis put the games from Java into the program menu. this is **** as the games are al trial versions and that blockbreaker is only a 90 second demo! WHY ffs dont waste your time and effort putting it on the X1 its a **** game im not going to buy it!
Also a main point is i have not soft reset my X1 yet! this is great finally can i go a day witout doing a soft reset?
Im still not entirely satisfied and even though i really like the X1 and will not give it up i still think it could be so much better. What are SE playingat
To summerise im happy with the update but still want more, more and more.
There's some issues with playback of recorded video, but other than that vid playback is better.
Overall I find the x1 much faster, especially on screen redraws and other 2D malarky, there appears to be a new DDI in this one that uses the hardware better I think.

I guess the game point doesn't really need to exist on that list - since its not an enhancement really. FYI - added only with the Vodafone UK ROM.
As for Panels... given that they are the main thing on Xperia, there should have been more improvements with them. Maybe a panel or two!
I flashed to x1a GENERIC NORTH AMERICA R2AA008 (1.03.948.8) couple days ago. (I have x1a purchased from sonystyle.com nov 08)
Camera - still testing. no option to turn off shutter sound.
Video - has not test yet.
access sd card - seems to be faster.
Headset works now in vibrate mode.
radio rom - 1.10.25.18. Seems to switch to GPRS more often than 1.06.25.29 (Probably will test other radios)
Overall is SLOWER;
Cannot make it: DON'T capitalize first letter (no matter if checked or not, it is Capitalizing always!)
Still no zoom at 3MP (I know its only digital, but comeon!)
Picture Quality / AutoFocus worse, for sure NOT better!
Still lags sometimes, while opening programs or clicking on anything!
Cannot choose to see ALL pictures in media panel anymore!
and so on.... !
I have Generic UK R2AA008 with the customized software ID from the download here! I have before, originally a different Generic_UK Customized version and had NO such problems besides the Bluetooth sometimes(!) turning off.
IMHO both NAM R2A and UK R2A have been improved
Still not perfect, but better overall xperiance over R1A
So I leave a positive feedback: Item as described. Would buy again. A++++
newly updated Generic_UK ROM
*First thing I've notice: Message Sent notification Fixed.
*Everything seem to boost up as far as performance is concern.
Satisfied and very Impressive as of now...

Are you sure you flashed with the correct version ?
I strongly agree with the list of improvements.
And zoom at maximal resolution (for us 3 MP) is not a bug, it's just the way Sony Ericsson wrote his software on any of their mobile phones, which is exactly the same for any Sony PowerShot camera. You cannot zoom digital at maximal resolution.

No capitalizing issues at my end. Check your Camera settings - quality must be low or something. Zoom is simply not an option offered in the camera firmware, really not a bug! Overall speed improvements, but will still show a little lag at times - it is windows mobile 6.5 after all! And who wants to see all pictures in media panel? Media Panel kept bringing in pictures from progam files and so on, so turning that off was good, but i agree there should be an option to toggle that option.
I've had my SEX1 for one week today, and so far no real complaint's. I noticed the last post in this thread is about a month old. Any updates, after longer usage? Do you recommend doing the update?
Thanks in advance.
If you check your rom and see you have an older R1 version then
Answer = Yes
It's greatly improved my speed on my phone, i no longer want to through it at the wall when it lags, because by and large all lagginess has been removed.
here's my upsets. I've flashed mine using generic uk rom. official SEUS since I can't use cooked rom which voids my warranty.
suck no. 1.: the damn thing always connect to 3G / Phone Data whenever it needs internet connection. Even if network is set to "My ISP". Even if nodata.cab is installed. And hell, even if the wifi is turned on and somehow your wifi connection at home becomes disconnected for whatever reasons, the 3G/Data connects. I just hate this feature. Whoever did it is a wuzzz! heheheh. Connecting to 3G automatically means adding paid data to your bill automatically. I reflashed the device twice. and I still get to connect automatically.
no 2.: This feature already sucked before but now the improvement sucks even more. Before, whenever you listen to mp3, whenever someone sends you sms, your mp3 mutes, and device plays your sms tone, making your music skip for a few seconds. This does not happen on SE phones. But of course, using UIQ.
Now, whenever you listen to your mp3 and someone sends you sms, the music keeps on playing while you sms tone plays at the same time. Real lame I should say.
no. 3.: I couldn't say camera or video recording has been improved IMHO. Because you now have the choice to record your videos in a High or Normal frame rate. Since the device can record at high frame rate, Who the hell would choose normal rate from now on? I mean would it still make sense? Then a minor thing is that the silent shutter isn't there anymore, The layout is noticeable that the 5th option wasn't there. Although I never cared.
no 4.: Random appearance of Flight mode bugs. Whenever your turn OFF your flight mode, the WIFI turns on. Even if it is off right before you turned ON the flight mode. this happens on occasions.
no. 5.: Faster boot up is noticeable. But I do not need reboot the phone, and it's not made to be noticed booting up. And again. And then again.
No need to hide. This phone has many problems, still many people seems to ignore them completely. No need to start the "It's your phone, it's strange, I use it a lot and it never happens" saga. The problems are there. And for everyone. The fact you don't notice some bad behaviours doesn't mean the phone is perfect or that your baby is exempt from problems. Let's start:
1) Suboptimal WI-FI performance. On a 802.11g wireless network, connected to an 8Mbps internet connection, the phone can't even saturate the badwidth of the network. Speedtest.net reports an approximate 2Mbps download capacity (EDIT for those who cannot distinguish: 2 megabits, not megabytes). Test it yourself: try to download something from a fast website and try to figure out which is your maximum download transfer speed. You will be disappointed. As a comparative, this means the phone can use 1/4 of the available bandwidth. A SonyEricsson Satio can fully use the available bandwidth, instead (someone told me "tell me a phone that can do it. Now you have one).
2) Stanby freeze: it's there. The phone freezes randomly while in stanby draining all your battery juice. Sometimes happens rarely, sometimes happens frequently.
3) Poor memory space handling: after just 20 days of use from a fresh ROM update, my free memory space on ROM is just 36MB. Without installing big things or hacking anything. Sure, there are fixes produced by the community, log cleaners, temp files deletion utilities, etc. etc. Still, it's a quite a disappointement: it means this phone can't work properly in a "factory state" for much time.
4) "Always on" features: nice, apart the fact in random periods of time the services just stop to download data. The Twitter client doesn't work well. Sometimes you can hear a tweet sound, sometimes it downloads data without the sound, sometimes it downloads nothing until reboot.
5) Poor stability in general: the OS crashes frequently. Less frequently than the first shipped rom. Still it's not very stable.
6) Poor support in general with the updates: finally the SMS stuck problem has been fixed but they spent 3 months for it without a valid solution. The camera fix doesn't hide the fact the sensor is defective.
I don't say this to start a flame, of course, but only because I'm frustrated with these problems. And people, instead of spreading words about them, just pump the hype, including some notorious web sites that have no scope but pushing the hype even further. But the truth is another: this phone doesn't work as expected.
I honestly do not have the problems you're describing..
Your "truth" is very different from mine, but ne1 is allowed to have no
Can't comment on all those, but i hear you, defo had some of them and i'm on my 2nd unit after 2 weeks.
With Nokia it took them at least 6 months to iron out the flaws in their released phones, defo the case with N95 & N96, i didn't expect it to be the case on this phone.
SMS fix? is it? or only in 1.66, because the hotfix's don't work on the 1.44 ROM
I would like to add the Audiobooster problem to that list
well, I don't pretend mine is perfect but there are more things to love than to hate about it. regarding the problems, I think you cannot generalize because I've never experienced some of your issues but I'm bothered by other myself. finally I guess it's just a subjective call anyway...
I had some of your problems when my HD2 was on the original 1.48 WWE Hong Kong ROM. However, since I flashed HSPL, Merlion LEO V1.90 ROM and Radio version 2.07.50.27_2, it's been faster and absolutely stable. No more freezing/"Sleep of Death"/etc...

That one really annoys me too. Still can't find a way to get video and audio in sync without manually adjusting the offset whilst encoding. And HTC still can't get the hang of getting Audiomanager to handle AAC files properly (ie sort albums in track order, or show.their album art). Still, it's a lot quicker than my Touch Pro was ; )
Yeap! I'm very happy that I could be refunded. Too many bugs for such a device.
^
If you want something that works out the box, get an iPhone
I have none of your issues and i can prove it with tests and videos.
I wish i had an "unlike" button to use it here. You are frustrated because either you don't know how to work with this phone or you have some bad software or even a bad phone. Replace it!
You are emitting false statements here!
PS: I have the phone for 2 months.
I'd love to see a phone or device that was perfect.
Every piece of hardware has its own problems.
I've been waiting for so long for someone to start a thread entitled as "Let's face it: HD2 has many problems". Eagerly watching this thread for some positive and negative input.
All in all, HTC Sense is at it infant stage. This "is" the culprit. Perhaps by end of this year, we will worship it someday...
To the developer/creator of HTC Sense, please use your common "sense" when trying to convince people to buy your idea. The first major mistake was SMS failure. Totally non-Sense.
1. have to say the WiFi (at work) is slow (2.2Mbps) but speedtest.net is SO unreliable I'll hold off commenting until I try at home tonight on my O2 LLU connection.
2. never had it
3. doesn't happen to me, currently got 107MB free of storage and 266MB of program memory free
4. other than Twitter client being a bit crap it's fine
5. mine doesn't crash
6. updates are fine but I've not had any of the issues others have had in the first place, less so now running a custom ROM
Return your phone and get an iphone/android device.
This kind of issues, even if I haven't myself had most of those you list, have been around with EVERY WM phone that has been made.
Of course WM is far from perfect, but as someone already said to me the advantages far outweigh them, and I can live with them and the need for tweaking.
1) Wifi speed, show me one phone that can transfer at full G speed. The processing power/memory bandwidth/flash memors speed can't handle that.
It also depends a LOT of the software used.
I do get 1-1.5MB/s (8-12Mbps) transfer on wifi between the HD2 and one of my home computers, with WiFi remote access, and on balanced wifi performance. With Resco explorer, I get 150kB/s...
2) Never had one.
3) Depends... could be just normal, now that the album and browser caches have reached their limits, and would stop there. Stock ROM has a lot of useless stuff on it.
etc...

Sense is fine, but the vanilla Win6.5 fails hard.
And if this thread gets to about page 5, it would probably just turn into another Leo vs iPhone flame war.
For the WiFi "problem": ~ 2 MByte /s is just the normal average speed, even with my laptop I won't get much more on 802.11g .. It also depends on with how many other devices you share your WiFi-channel.

What is manila win6.5?!?! Do you even know what manila is? manila = sense!!!
I think there are a lot of 'duff' units, this must be the case with the 'sleep of death' and the crackley call as many of had it but most don't.
I took mine back, got a new one yesterday, no crackles no sleep of death... yet
But true, there are always gonna be problems, it will take months before a near perfect firmware, sorry, rom is out
Thank god for my HTC HD2. No problem here beside the screen shaking. But I hardly notice it.

SonyEricsson Satio, for example. I download at 900Kb/s with it on the same network (using the same browser, Opera Mobile 10 Beta 3). Poor implementations doesn't mean it's not possible. Do we need 4Ghz quad core processors to use a wireless g network? Obviously not.
3) Depends... could be just normal, now that the album and browser caches have reached their limits, and would stop there. Stock ROM has a lot of useless stuff on it.
etc...

A bad behaviour, even when happens at factory settings is still a bad behaviour. You have a strange definition of "normal". Surely a phone that in 20 days saturate all the available space on the rom cannot be considered "normal". It's a poor implementation of things. A good implementation would have addressed it from the start by allowing the user WHERE to store that files or giving him an option to clear that files without an hard reset. No, it's not normal. Software design it's a much more complicated thing than those "normal" things.
You know you have problems when your best programs are Hd2tweaks, Bsbtweaks and Resco registry editor. And you are continually wiping out your system and trying new roms. Although Xannytech evolution was a good one.
