Messages access problem?!?!! - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

From earlier this morning I somehow cannot access my sms messages, e-mails, nothing from within the Messaging menu - not from the Start Menu, not from the assigned button on the device, not from the Mobile Shell's menu, from nowhere, a windows' loading icon appears the it just shuts down as if I closed it....?!!?! I can't write messages, can't recieve any etiher, ppl get a report I got the message but nothing happens with my phone
I have a Qtek 9100 with WM5 and Mobile Shell.
Has anyone else come accross this problem??? A soft reset didnt help.... Hard reset is an opiton but as a last resort, I have no idea whether a system Back-up wont copy the problem all over again.......
HELP PLZ

Hard reset is indeed the fix...this has happened to me a few times, and thats the only way that I have ever been able to fix it. Use PIM Backup or Sprite Backup to backup the stuff that you want before you do it of course.

I hope this won't copy the files, regs, etc, that caused the problem......??

Hard reset did nothing........ Either the problem can't be fixed with a hard reset, or the backup file copied the corrupt part of the system I guess......

Could it be possible that a single message can be blocking the whole Messaging unit of the system......? Maybe if I put my sim card in another phone....?
After the system was reset hard, the messages window appeared OK, then I restored from a backup file and nada......

Try again, but don't restore all of your email this time. You most likely have a corrupted email message (most likely in your outbox, but not always), and it sounds like it was recent. This used to happen to me on Windows 95 rather often, and has happened to me with WM5, as well.
If there's nothing in your outbox, and you have a habit of leaving recent mail in your inbox, you might try restoring everything but your inbox after the hard reset. If you are a "delete" kind of guy, try to restore everything but the trash. You may have to hard reset a couple of times, before you find it, but at least you won't lose your entire email account, just the folder that has the corrupt message.
If you get through all your email folders and still can't find the culprit, I suppose you'll have to just deal with not restoring your email account, and move forward.

How do I remove 'stuck' email a/c & 'unread' Today notice?
Hi there, hope you can help.
I have an HTC Wizard (Xda Mini S) and recently restored a backup using the latest Sprite Backup beta.
It kinda half restored my one POP3 e-mail account, in that the account appears on the Today screen showing '59 Unread', but not in the Messaging program folder list.
I.e. it's there, but not visible and I can't see the Inbox etc.
When I try to re-create the account using the same name, Messaging won't let me as 'an account already exists with that name'. So, it's there, but invisible.
I've tried removing all entries of the account name from the registry, but after a reboot they reappear.
How can I completely remove this account, to start again?
I think it is a bug to be honest
I did a hard reset and then restored my sms back to the device using Jeyo
it said 1046 unread (but they were there) and after manually selecting mark as read, it had 1 msg unread even though there was none that were unread!
in the end i had to hard reset it again and its ok now
Thanks but I'm hoping someone here can provide a solution that doesn't involve a hard reset, as that rather defeats the object of having performed & restored a backup at all!

Thanks, found it at http://www.spritesoftware.com/downloads/CleanMail.zip
Sadly it didn't do anything for my device's issue however

Messages application corrupt PLEASE HELP!

Hi, I had this problem before a long time ago and I ended up hard resetting, but now am having the same exact problem. I haven't done anything or installed anything in the last 3 weeks it just happened.
So when I click the messages application through "No unread messages" on desktop, nothing happens.
If I go into programs and open Messages then it opens the messages, but when I try to click "inbox" to select either of my email accounts it stalls and won't move. I can go back to desktop though. I cant get out of the text messages section of messages.
Also, I can't sync with my pc anymore, I can access the phone and memory stick in windows but activesync won't sync!
What's the deal, if I hard reset I fear this will just happen again. I have no programs but spb stuff I always have had.......
THANKS!!!!!!!
oh and soft resetting and turning off the phone doesn't seem to help. I can't check email either................
my contacts list is also blank wtf, it scrolls down empoty lines.........
ok i'm hard resetting, but i don't want this to happen again.......
OK so this will be the 4th time that pocketoutlook fails on me and I have to reformat and start from scractch.
Anyone else had pocketoutlook slowdown like I mentioned above?
it just happens after a while and i have no idea why and it doesn't go away.

pim.vol has the info in it (hexedit), but can't restore it to phone.

I've had a catastrophe where I made the mistake of removing "sync profiles", not knowing that this is code for "erase your contacts from view". This is on an HTC Tornado, WM6.
I've tried everything, but I cannot get the phone to recognize the contacts any more. Everything is blank. Yet, my pim.vol (by hexediting) has the contact info in there - i can see it!
I've tried renaming /pim.vol and copying the old one over it, waiting, then soft resetting. I've tried repeating the above after a hard reset.
Why is this happening? How do I fix it?
Are there cmd line tools to simply parse the contents of my pim.vol so I can reenter by hand?

i use resco explorer to replace pim.vol from the ppc, then reset and everything is ok
That doesn't really work. In WM6 it just freaks out on boot and causes the phone to re-init itself.
This is an utter nightmare, and makes me actually viscerally hate microsoft for building software like this. The genesis of this is that outlook simply would not work (and still doesn't, despite about 5 hours of searching/attempting to fix/reinstalling). So, I give up and try to sync with another laptop. I'm informed I have too many sync profiles, and you know the rest.
This is nothing short of ridiculous. I asked questions on a microsoft-monitored WM forum, and all I get back was some blurb about "pimbackup" and "managedpoom". The former would be great if I could get to my contacts, and the latter if I felt like writing a full application in C# with the sole purpose of extracting my contacts from a pim.vol, but meanwhile I'm screwed.
Thanks M$. I'm going Symbian/Linux in the future.

It works, after copy you should go back and delete the first pim.vol (the smaller one), after that reset, and all will be ok.
I don't know why; maybe I'm more determined now, but it did indeed restore it to its former state this time. I'd changed the ROM image to a newer WM6 one, too. Maybe that helped.
Thanks.

SPB Backup...urgent help...anyone

i have a 2Gig memory card that i used with my first touch, i back up my info to the card using SPB back up...then one day my touch started to bug out and took it in the repair store and the coulnd fix the phone so they gave me a new one.
here is the problem, they were not able to get my contacts out so i lost all my numbers.
Do the contacts get backed up with the SPB back up app? if so is there any way to extract them from the card?
i put the card in my PC and i do see the file "spb back up" with the date and all but i clik it and it does not open or recognize the program..
please help me get my numbers back
thanks.
put the card in the phone and try to restore from there. you might have to reinstall SPB backup first. the only way to know if your contacts are there is (1) you selected to back them up or (2) when you restore your backup they are available to you. if you do recover your contacts, i suggest you use MS Outlook (on your PC) to backup your contacts. once there, you can create an Excel .csv file as a backup. good luck.
the thing is that the first touch was not working due to probably a bug of some sort....that problem got backed up into the back up file...
i took my first touch in the store, they fixed the software problems by doing a complete reset...then i put the card back and did a back up restore and the bug came back. so i took it back and said the problem was back.
so i dont want to do the restore again on my new one in fear of messing it up again with whatever software problem is in there.
thanks.
judging from your comments, someone at the sprint store performed a hard-reset and gave you your phone back. correct? if yes, you can perform the hard-reset yourself... now, if you can restore from the backup and sync your contacts to MS Outook, then you can get your contacts back. afterwards, you can perform a hard-reset, and resync your contacts back to your phone. i've done this dozens of times without problems. i can understand, however, if you're a little uncomfortable doing this... either way, use MS Outlook to recreate all your contacts, then sync them to the phone. it's easier doing on the PC vs. the phone! good luck.

Backup Software Problem

Hi,
I've used SPB backup for years on my PDA's so when I backed up my HD2, everything looked like it backed up ok. Had to hard reset the HD2 but didn't think much about it because I had a backup exe. Ran the exe twice and nothing changed. Im pretty sure I have the latest version that is compatible with WM 6.5.
Do you have to turn off HT sense in order for the back up to work properly?
I've read in the forum that others have had good luck with Sprite, anyone use either of these programs successfully?
Thanks for any insight you can provide
Mike

I used SPB successfully, except for the fact that when sync'ing after restore, the PC does not recognize the device as a device that was already connected, and sets up a new Mobile-pc connection (which makes a second connection on the mobile, and can cause problem sync'ing mail).
I have read that others had problems with restored SMSs when using SPB, I did not check that.
I had a VERY BAD experience with the Sprite backup.
I just would NOT restore the contacts and calendar data,
and messed up the multi-language support after ROM upgrade,
no matter what restore method I selected.
So -
in my experience concludes that - NO backup program is reliable.
Depending on what you want from your backup solution, Microsoft MyPhone is particularly good!
It syncs data to & from an online store where you can view it via a web interface. You can sync your data with MyPhone, hard reset the device, sync your data again and it's just back.
What's more, you can set it to automatically sync data on a periodic basis. I have it run a sync at 4am every day, and it's only ever failed a couple of times, and I've been using it for over 6 months now!
Have a look at it - it should be on your phone, but it's in the marketplace if it's not there. Alternatively, just google MyPhone.
Hope this helps

Yeah, right,
just the small fact they dont back up the data on their servers make it just as unreliable.
(The server crashed no too long ago, and they had no backup, and many users lost their data)

If you rely 100% on a backup then you are gonna get screwed sometimes. Like I said, mine syncs daily, so even if it didn't work for a couple of days I wouldn't actually lose any data unless my phone went down.
So basically, if everything fails then yes, you'll lose your data.
Anyway, neither of the articles you linked even mentions the MyPhone service.
Thanks for the info though
Just as a matter of interest, cloud services like MyPhone seem to be on the increase. However who is asking the questions of these service providers as to how safe and secure our data really is?
So if I upload a thousand contacts onto MyPhone how do I know that someone isn't going to get their hands on that data or, worse still, use it for either commercial advantage or nefarious purposes?
I am not against cloud services per se; however these services, including MyLocation, seem to be getting accepted without any of us either fully understanding how secure all this data is, who actually holds it, what the impacts are on our right to privacy, etc, etc.
Just asking the question chaps. Interested in your sensible views.
WB
I'm with you, WB, I suspect we (the global "we") are losing our grip on our data and privacy without even realising it.
personally I just sync with outlook for contacts and mails and I backup outlook every week or so. I doubt ill use cloud services for some time to come.
hey dude, i am using spb backup i hard reset lots of times because i trial lots of softwares, till this date never had any problems! SPB been really reliable
I've been using SK Tools to backup my HD2 since I got it. It works fine with the HD2 except for one small but weird issue.
The first time I restored a backup from SK Tools, it restored everything just fine, except, when in ActiveSync, I could not copy or write to the phone, nor could I install new software on the phone. It seems like the permissions on the phone had been changed to "Read Only" for all files and folder. However, if I then connected the HD2 to my PC, but select it to connect as an external drive, I could then perform read/write data from/to the SD card. However, if I started to install a new .cab file from the SD card it would still fail during installation.
The way to overcome this issue, was for me to perform a hard reset, connect the phone to my PC with ActiveSync, perform a read/write to/from the phone, then after that, do the restore with SK Tools. If a file had been read and written to the phone/SD card with Activesync prior to the restore, it would then restore perfectly, and everything will be back to normal.
Other than this one weird issue, I haven't had any problems with using SK Tools for backup.
Had always good experience with Sprite Backup, used it on "O2 Orbit II", HTC Touch HD, and now using Sprite Backup on HD2.
On HD2 i didn't need a Image restore yet, but I do not expect to get a problem in this case.
File restore worked well!
Using the default Sprite Backup configuration contacts, calendar and tasks will not be backed up, because in the case of a Image restore Sprite-Software says you can get double entries afterwards when sync with Outlook.
manilla
Thanks all for your input, maybe this was just a glitch. I'll stick with SPB unless it happens again...
I've tried Sprite Backup and SPB Backup to get my call history and SMS's on to my HD2 (from a TyTN2) but have a problem with the results form both. Messages display in the Sense tab, and in the "all messages" list if the traditional non-conversational view mode is used they all display correctly and can be opened and viewed. If I leave the phone in conversation view however, I can't view any of the conversations. The conversations appear in the list, but if I tap any of them it goes straight bcak to the Sense tab showing the newest message. Photos for contacts are also not displayed against the conversations. If I send a text to someone it starts a new conversation and displays the photo. These new conversations open properly when you go back to them.
I can't work out what is causing this, anyone else had this problem?
