How do I remove 'stuck' email a/c & 'unread' Today notic - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

How do I remove 'stuck' email a/c & 'unread' Today notice?
Hi there, hope you can help.
I have an HTC Wizard (Xda Mini S) and recently restored a backup using the latest Sprite Backup beta.
It kinda half restored my one POP3 e-mail account, in that the account appears on the Today screen showing '59 Unread', but not in the Messaging program folder list.
I.e. it's there, but not visible and I can't see the Inbox etc.
When I try to re-create the account using the same name, Messaging won't let me as 'an account already exists with that name'. So, it's there, but invisible.
I've tried removing all entries of the account name from the registry, but after a reboot they reappear.
How can I completely remove this account, to start again?

I think it is a bug to be honest
I did a hard reset and then restored my sms back to the device using Jeyo
it said 1046 unread (but they were there) and after manually selecting mark as read, it had 1 msg unread even though there was none that were unread!
in the end i had to hard reset it again and its ok now

Thanks but I'm hoping someone here can provide a solution that doesn't involve a hard reset, as that rather defeats the object of having performed & restored a backup at all!

google for 'Clenmail', that should be it.

Thanks, found it at http://www.spritesoftware.com/downloads/CleanMail.zip
Sadly it didn't do anything for my device's issue however

Email account disappeared, but is still there?

I just installed the new i-Mate ROM onto my 8125. Everything was going well until I opened Pocket Outlook to read my email and the account was missing from the list! I rebooted, it did not come back. I then went to re-create the account and it told me I couldn't use the name for the account because it was being used by another. But when I go to accounts, it's not listed there. Has anyone had this happen to them? Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.
had same problem;
solution HARD RESET.
Sorry
and deconfigured BT and wifi connections ?¿?
Regards
the file;cemail.vol is corupted and it cannot be deleted belive me i tried
here is what todo;
backup your machine
hard reset then restore it minus the mail folders and the cemail.vol file
that way you only lose settings from the mail folders. better than lose everthing.more informatio hereabout this problem;http://msmobiles.com/f/viewtopic.php?t=7091&sid=5f3039a90fbac525e018ee2bab2e03a4
Thanks guys. I ended up just hard resetting the device and re-creating the mailbox. I think part of it may have had to do with running some of my Cingular Extended ROM CAB files after creating the mailbox. It's been fine since, was a little more selective with the CABs I installed.

Can't access or delete old email accounts

I'm with the latest ROM and apart the lack of A2DP it is very good.
Unfortunately I restored (with SPB Backup) some pop accounts that are neither visible to remove, nor available to use (arrrrgggg!!!!)
I only noticed it because: - spb diary shows them
- messaging refuses to create a pop3 with the same name (although it doesn't show it to delete or edit)
I know the detailes are stored in a system db but dbview refuses to cooperate. It only shows MSN database ?!?! with 0 records.
Where shoud I go now. I just want to edit the database and delete those crappy email accounts. Any clues? I'm stuck. I made an hard reset yesterday to install the new ROM. Not in a mood to repeat the thing...
help?
C'mon guys! Any clues? How can I delete those messaging ghost accounts?
I too am having the same problem. Everything mentioned above, plus it's still showing my old e-mail acc'ts (and the unread message count) in the today menu. Any advice?
I wanted to report that I tried an idea; however, it failed. I thought I could use SPB Backup to make a new backup in the device current's state (That is, the e-mail ghosting error) and not include e-mail in this new backup. What I was hoping for was to have the device restor everything else (leaving the e-mail out) and, thus, reset the e-mail. For some reason it didn't. The device loaded perfectly. Even so much that included the ghosting e-mail accounts.
I know this isn't a solution, but maybe someone with some more experience can read something into that.
that solution didn't work because the ghost account info is stored in the system databases.
maybe a solution can be found contacting spb because the OS is not showing it. just spb software. maybe it's tagged for not show in database and spb soft is showing it.
another way is using software to edit system databases but it.s a more risky option. and I don't know what's the best soft to do it.
keep me posted if you find a way to clean/hide those accounts.
I've sent an e-mail to SPB. I'll post their response in this thread. Were you able to add new accounts? I still cannot vía T-Mobile's "Send POP Settings To Phone" tool, nor "Set Up My E-mail" on the phone.

Glad Im not alone! I upgraded to 2.21 and restored my email from 2.17. I think that was issue. I had this happen once before with original OEM ROM upgrade to 2.17 and had to cold boot and start over again. Just too tired.
I hope there is an answer from Spb. thks for emailing them.

I get the feeling that the key thing here is not to restore email from Spb Backup after u just upgraded ROM, like I did to 2.21. Then Diairy would not have email accounts, and u could create new accounts with outlook. I have a 3rd party email editor just incase I need email, but pain in the rear to have to cold boot again. Cause again, this happned to me upgrading from OEM Rom to 2.17. I had to cold boot and start email again.
Hard lesson, hope Spb has an answer.

I seem to be working on my own problem here, cause no time to wait for answers.
I decided to remove Spb Diary. Now WM5 is not exactly a science when it comes to removing apps, but it did, and several questions poped up in reference to keeping old Diary configuration for future use, i simply said NO. Cause I will re install Diary, and it will pickup contacts and new email accounts, which I will 1st configure with out look now. Better then cold boot bro's.
Well this worked, and oulook popped up and I setup my accounts again. Hard lesson to learn. Next ROM upgrade I will NOT restore my old email accounts before setting them up with outlook, then re installing Diary.

Please help can't get rid of old Outlook accounts

How would I do this??? it is so weird... they just are there on my back up but I can't follow or find any files to them..
Hi,
Removing the account is easy:
Start Pocket Outlook, goto menu - tools - options
You see the list of active accounts, just tap and hold the account you would like to remove and the popup menu pops up. Tap on delete and your account will be deleted.
Hope this helps!

NO NO NO... lol tech support just said the same thing... I can't see them... but they are there because when I put the exact same name it says, "you can't have a duplicate account... AND my PBreeze shows them too... but the only active one are the current ones that I have configured correctly.
when this happened to me, I had to hard reset, then used my latest spb backup to back up everything except the mail stuff, then I recreated my accounts, this was what spb advised me to do and it worked.
Good Luck with this.

How about:
1) Restore your current backup.
2) Backup your device again missing out the mail stuff
3) Hard reset
4) Restore the new backup
I might have to do this shortly
That's what I ended up doing, it saved me a lot of time as the only thing left to do afterwards was recreate the mail stuff.
Hope it goes OK

ahhh. lol, I am a dodo head... I see what you're saying now... yes... I get it... lol hmmm wish I thought of that...
however, did you notice problems whith other things as well... for example I use spbtime and get an error all the time can't exucute spbtime.exe notify or something like that... comes up all the time....
I seem to remember there were a few minor issues, mostly with programs that I had installed to my storage card. I think there were about 2 apps which I had to uninstall and then re-install to get everything back to absolutely perfect. In my case the issues arose because I had sent back my original Vario II to t-mobile (screen alignment probs) and they sent me a new/reconditioned machine in return. Obviously things must have been very slightly different, and this led to the mail problem.
Apparently another thing which is crucial is setting the time/region etc correctly after a hard reset.
You could try an uninstall and then re-install of this particular application, or look on spb's forum and ask for help there, they are very good with most issues that come up.
I saw suggested on one forum that if doing a hard reset and complete re-installation instead of using backup, it's a good idea to do an extra backup at the stage when only really, absolutely crucial tried and tested applications are on, a kind of 'baseline' backup. However, I've never been patient enough to do this myself!

Removing corrupt mail account

Hi Guys,
My Hermes was replaced by Vodafone as most of the front buttons died after 60 days. As I could not be putting up with reinstalling everything on another 'PDA' yet again, I bought SPB Backup and did a full backup of the old phone and restored it to the new one. Everything works 100% - except:
SPB Diary shows my mail account, called 'PD', but it won't Open it. Messaging doesn't even show the account, but if I try to create a new 'PD' it says that an account with that name already exists, so I guess something is missing or corrupt.
I can create a new mail account with another name, but it nags me that the old data (or part of it) is there 'somewhere' so can anyone point me towards a file/folder/registry entry I can delete to get rid of the duff account.
Many thanks.
PS: Yes, I have posted in the SPB Backup forum but a few others have had similar-ish problem and there's not much in the way of advice.
Try completely cleaning up the e-mail accounts by SKTools 3.x. It will delete all your mail-related stuff (incl. other accounts) so save your stuff first.

There isn't really need for a full tutorial - go to PIM / Delete PIM information, select the name of the mailbox (for example, "mymail") and Delete, followed by Yes / No.

Thanks for that - I will give it a go.
Edit: Well, I downloaded and installed SKLite for WM5 smartphones and it won't run - a window pops up briefly and then closes.
If you're not afraid using the Windows Mobile SDK, see my thread on rapiconfig (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283128).
First, you can query information about your accounts.
Then, either try setting the authentication fields, or, use the nocharacteristic element to delete the accounts one by one.
You'll find documentation looking for »nocharacteristic EMAIL2« on MSDN.

Messages access problem?!?!!

From earlier this morning I somehow cannot access my sms messages, e-mails, nothing from within the Messaging menu - not from the Start Menu, not from the assigned button on the device, not from the Mobile Shell's menu, from nowhere, a windows' loading icon appears the it just shuts down as if I closed it....?!!?! I can't write messages, can't recieve any etiher, ppl get a report I got the message but nothing happens with my phone
I have a Qtek 9100 with WM5 and Mobile Shell.
Has anyone else come accross this problem??? A soft reset didnt help.... Hard reset is an opiton but as a last resort, I have no idea whether a system Back-up wont copy the problem all over again.......
HELP PLZ
Hard reset is indeed the fix...this has happened to me a few times, and thats the only way that I have ever been able to fix it. Use PIM Backup or Sprite Backup to backup the stuff that you want before you do it of course.

I hope this won't copy the files, regs, etc, that caused the problem......??
Hard reset did nothing........ Either the problem can't be fixed with a hard reset, or the backup file copied the corrupt part of the system I guess......
Could it be possible that a single message can be blocking the whole Messaging unit of the system......? Maybe if I put my sim card in another phone....?
After the system was reset hard, the messages window appeared OK, then I restored from a backup file and nada......
Try again, but don't restore all of your email this time. You most likely have a corrupted email message (most likely in your outbox, but not always), and it sounds like it was recent. This used to happen to me on Windows 95 rather often, and has happened to me with WM5, as well.
If there's nothing in your outbox, and you have a habit of leaving recent mail in your inbox, you might try restoring everything but your inbox after the hard reset. If you are a "delete" kind of guy, try to restore everything but the trash. You may have to hard reset a couple of times, before you find it, but at least you won't lose your entire email account, just the folder that has the corrupt message.
If you get through all your email folders and still can't find the culprit, I suppose you'll have to just deal with not restoring your email account, and move forward.
