There is a great open source version of the classic board game, Axis and Allies. It's called "Triple A". Binaries and Source are available on source forge at http://triplea.sourceforge.net/mywiki
What would be involved in porting this game to windows mobile? Are there any good guides to this? Is anybody interested in this project?

It is a great strategy game... I have a Windows PC version around somewhere. Maybe I'll get time to upload an .ISO.

Hi Guys,
I have come to you with great news: Pebbles, the remote control software, goes (probably) open source. At the moment, I am in contact with Brad Myers, the former head of the development team involved in Pebbles. The Project has been stopped a long time ago, but I am trying to convince him, that a release of the source code to open source under a GPL License is way better than simply abandoning such an excellent project.
I also told him that the best programmers concerning Windows Mobile Devices can be found here. So I hope that there are some experiences programmers with a bit free time in here. I can deliver all necessary graphical elements as I am familiar with this subject for over nine years now.
A quick information for all of you who do not know what Pebbles is:
It consists of some sub-tools, for example Shortcutter, which allows you to define your own buttons. These can send keystrokes and commands to the PC via Bluetooth ActiveSync. Basically, it is a remote control tool.
Furthermore, there is Scribbles, a tool which is used when you are holding a presentation. You write on your device and it will generate an overlay onto your presentation.
And there is also RemoteCommander, a kinda-VNC which also supports Scribble.
There are some more, to be found here.
Hopefully there are some programmers willing to put their efforts and experience into this great project. I am sure that the base of the software is well-written, as it still runs smoothly and without a single problem on my current hardware specs, which are Windows 7 (x64) on 8GB RAM and an HTC Touch Diamond with Windows Mobile 6.1.
For any further questions do not hesitate to post in here. If the project is opened on Sourceforge, I also can give you my ICQ and E-Mail details if needed.

My reply on this was:
Yes, there is a whole new generation out there. I for example got an HTC Touch Diamond, which has a resolution of 640x480 pixels, over 500 mhz and 4 GB storage. It has a touchscreen (it has just four keys, e.g. for answering calls and going back to home), GPS ans WiFi support. My Operating System is Windows Mobile 6.1 whereas my regular OS (i.e. at home) is Windows 7 (64 bit), and Pebbles runs smoothly on it. So I think Pebbles already has the best start as there are no OS issues with Windows as far as I am aware of.
For more information on the GPL you can have a look at the wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License). On the bottom there are more links to the original text. I would recommend he GPL Version 3, which is the latest one.
Sourceforge would also have been the platform of my choice. I will create a topic at the xda-developers.com forums to collect peoples responses on this subject.

I am interested in this. I'm using an old Qtek 9100 (HTC Wizard, OMAP180 200MHz) upgraded to Windows Mobile Professional 6.5.
I'm already using SallingClicker which offers similar features, but I'm always willing to try something new...

yes, Salling Clicker is a similar tool, it offers many features but the knowledge you have to have on order to create a working script is way too much.
I hope that there are some programmers here, which are willing to support this project. Then we also can create a wishlist, new features which should be added in 'our' first release.

Looked at the specs of the original program, and it looks nice! Make it up to date, implement full touchscreen support, and this would be a winner!
I hope that I will receive a confirmtion by the end of this week.
One problem however is, that I do not have any experience in coding, the only thing I can do is graphics.
So my plea to all of you coders out there is: When time has come please have a look at the source code and tell us, if you can help us.
Maybe we also can create an "award system" - users request features, when they are implemented they can donate to the developers.
Maybe a mod can move this thread to the new created subforum "Windows software development"?

I'm planning to start developing a RPG game for Android. I have previous experience with a few gaming utilities like RPG Maker and GameMaker and I was wondering if it would be possible to port a game developed in one of these tools to an Android Env.
I know Android is Java based and all but, what would be easier (in a practical matter I mean): to start the game from scratch in the Eclipse (ie) env or to dev. it on Maker tools and then port it to ANDROID??

at first I like to give you a short introduction of myself. I am 23 years old, living in germany being a trainee as software developer. Currently I am looking for a freeware and/or open source game project to join. I'm used to object orientated programming and also have some basic knowledge of game development. In the recent weeks I started to learn how to use OpenGL ES on android devices.
Important:
- Do not reply with something like: "Please code game XYZ for me!!!"
- If you know a good place where non-profit android game developers are searched/found please tell me This would be a great help too.
Even if I may me able to do the coding part all on my own, but I still lack some skills on modeling, texturing and especially the music/sound stuff.
So what I am looking for is mainly a team of non-profit (donation based is absolutely okay) developers that is lokking for an programmer for some game.
This will be a hobby project (what does not mean it shouldn't result in a good game) so I will mainly be available for coding on the weekends.
The type of game does not matter that much to me, anyway it should not be some clone of another android game. There's so many types of games that are completely missing on android devices (on others too of course) that it shouldn't be that hard to choose something "new".
What came to my mind at first were some portal-like game with a built in level editor. The levels created by that should be shareable over internet so everyone can extend the game by new content. This way you could share your own (or good ones of other's) levels with your friends that should keep the fun with that game for some time.
Another great project would be something nearly fitting a request I saw here in the forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077132). Its about some "Minigame-API" that should be containg some models (units/"monsters"/buildings), level textures and an interface to script own gameplay mechanics. Mainly something like the Stacraft / Warcraft III / Stracraft II level editor reduced to the basic stuff needed to create own funmaps. There will need to be some basic engine for a RTS game, but regarding story/techtree's/balacing/etc. there will be nothing to do so far. The Editor itself should be a java programm (cross-platform) thats interface is like/near the Warcraft III Level Editor. (Kind of easy to use but very powerful if you master it )
Both of those crazy ideas would require a lot of time and/or people to work on it so I of course also would like to help on some less advanced project. Anyway I do not want to create the 50th tetris clone.

If you can supply more than just an idea to the project its absolutely okay I will have a look at it.
Edit: Sorry but this kind of game isn't what I am looking for, it's just too simple to give me the challenge I want. Maybe I will contact you if I don't find any other project within the next few days. (Better coding a really simple game than to twiddle thumbs )

I think the best way to learn any new area of software development is to get stuck into a project. I've been working in various embedded and real-time environments for years but a couple of years ago myself and a couple of mates decided to try to make a game. At the time we wanted to learn C# so we dived into the XNA framework & made something that ran on Windows & XBox. It was never released, but I learned a lot of new stuff. Started with their tutorials and went from there. I can't help with links and so on for Android but don't be put off by the idea that games are too complex - the first software job I ever did was on a full size submarine simulator for the Navy & that really was complicated!

I agree. But Andengine is free and very good. Look at the link I gave above.
I used Unity3D for my class project before. It's very nice and easy to use. You should check it out

When I started to learn android game developing I found some very useful tutorials at: obviam.net. Look for the series 'Getting started in android development with libgdx'.
This series uses the framework libGDX, which enables you to write your game once and easily port it to many different platforms.

I totally support this. I created my first Android game (Rock Ninja) with no previous game development experience thanks to the awesome Libgdx framework/community.
Yeah, LibGDX great thing and very easy to learn on GoogleCode's wiki page by simply reading topics one by one. Of course if you are familiar with java first
I'm also member of libGDX community, even helped to fix some bugs in particle editor. But after deeper look at this engine, you find some problems in deployment on other platforms. So, I'm looking at the Unity 3d now, besides it became free for android and iOS version.

True, iOS is still work in progress with Libgdx. Good news is that the new RoboVM backend(that will replace Monotouch/Xamarin) is looking really promising and a first app has already been successfully published to the Appstore.
I have a decent stash of books on mobile development. I would start with either monogame, libGDX(provided you know openGL), AndEngine, Unity3D, or use cross platform tools that turn HTML5/CSS3/Javascript into native code. Give me a PM if you need anything, best of luck :good:

You don't need any knowledge of OpenGL for Libgdx, everything is abstracted out for you.

Internally yes, but it's abstracted by the framework for you not to need to worry about it.

I need to make an Android app for school, so I just want to make a simple Tetris clone. Any help that anyone has would be very much appreciated!

I would start with some easy application and after try to create something like tetris. For game you will need some framework not just Java and Android.

For learning android i suggest u take a look at the new boston tutorial series. For games, Beginning android 4 games is a very good read. It explains game development fundamentals in detail.

I'd suggest using libGDX as well, I'm starting to port our game Super Wilmer to it, the reason you want to go with a framework like this is so that you can port to other platforms, like iOS for example. They have a lot of good support material and getting started tutorials.
