Dropped my phone this morning & it hard reset. Problem is, even WITH a backup made on my SD card, it's a waste of time.
when I restore....there is AWAY a sound problem which is creatd by it. When someone PHONES, the ringtone skips every three seconds. This isn't a software problem which was backed up, it just HAPPENS. music and system sounds play find, ust the actual ringerin call...
has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it, short of hard reset and building everything manually again?
Thanks.

Try using SPBBackup next time.
Works perfectly on my XDA II .

When I re-set my phone, I get one of the alarms going off, and the vibrate alert.
This happens about 4 or 5 times in succession for no apparent reason when Windows loads.
It then happens intermittently, but not as often, for about 5 minutes – again sounding and vibrating.
I do not have this alarm sound set up for any action in the sounds settings. It doesn’t matter if I have an appointment or not. I do not have an alarm set-up.
One additional point (which indicates a software fault) is that I had my phone replaced for SA issues and I did a full backup before I changed the phone (this problem also happened on my old phone). After a full restore, the problem was copied to my new phone.
Does anyone know / or has anyone had this issue and resolved it?
Thanks all.

Anyone any ideas on this (other than a hard reset)? It's driving me CRAZY!!
since youre still using the old restore... youre just moving the problem...
You can try to uninstall your apps one by one...
But it's faster to hard reset and re-install it one by one..
You could try installing alarmtoday by pocket max, this will list each alarm/notification/every sounding event on your system, you can then see what's causing this and hopefully cancel it.
if you find out, let us know. Good Luck
Thanks guys -- I figured that my worsed case scenario my be my only option.

Just a thought but if you go into Sounds and Notifications do you have 'vibrate' set for Activesync?
I raised this a while back on Modaco, so sorry for anyone seeing it again.
My Vario2 has a problem where it goes into a long (about 2min) lock-up when I try to access the phone app (where you change ringtones etc). Nothing else causes it to hang, just that. It makes not difference if I have a memory card in or not.
Last time I had this, I did a hard reset and it went away. Now it's back and I can't bear reinstalling all my apps again! restoring a backup last time also restored the problem, so I guess it's a software issue.
Is this a known problem for anyone else? Is there a fix?
Thx

I don't know why my 8525 all the sound goes off sometimes, including the screen tap sound! about twice a day, once i softreset, it back to normal. did anyone has this issue and how to fix it? thanks!

I've got the same issue. Reading other posts I'm coming to the conclusion it might be the memory card. I've pulled mine and will run without it for a while to see what happens. Would love though if someone else can shed any light on this. I'm about to go through a full memory erase and start from scratch until I find the offending program or utility doing this. I'm running Voice Command 1.5 and I'll push the button to activate it and I can tell it's trying because the "Notification" prompt appears, but it can't hear me apparently either. Very frustrating all the way around.
me too
same problem here. i'm also running msvc 1.5. I seem to notice that this happens when I have been listening to wmp on the wired earbuds and kill it when I'm done. I've also seen some posts about memory card issues causing problems like this, but that seems strange to me.
pretty often I pull my 2gb card and put it in a card reader to run scandisk and defrag. this time I got 100 meg of dead files in found.000. was causing issues with/was caused by ie cache and wmp10 files on storage card.
you know 2 days ago, i had this problem... and it was because i lowered the volume and didnt know. i know im slow. but anyway, i had this problem not hearing sound with my headset wired via usb. soft reset resolved. only happened once. hope it doesnt happen again.
Hi guys,
not sure if any one of you have this problem? My set will auto reboot if my incoming sms is not read and when the vibrate in new incoming sms is set.
Did a full hard reset to reload rom, still there. Tested on a newly reload rom, still suck big time. But i do enjoy hard resetting and loading diffferent boot-loader to the phone.
Enjoyed this phone except for this crazy issue.
Going to get SE to replace the set. Hope it goes away.

well if this really is an issue, I doubt replacing the phone will help because it is most likely a bug in the firmware rather than the hardware itself..
why don't you try to fix the battery more firmly, so that the contacts to be made better. it may be the poor contact with the batter, so when your phone vibrates it restarts.
there's no way to be a soft error.
Got the new phone today. the issue so far is not happening.
The phone will vibrate then after awhile like 3-5 minutes then restart, or some time black out. When it balck out, you can heard a beep when you try the power button, then i will go dead till you take out the battery and restart.
The new phone definately feels much faster then the old one, even with all the same contacts and programs installed. So i believe it was a hardware problem. So far i did not see anyone with the same problem so i think it is a one off thing.
Last night my ATT8525 phone, which I've had for several years, suddenly stopped playing the ringtone for incoming calls. All other sounds have been tested and working, including playing music. I've tried changing the volume of both the device slider and ring slider to vibrate, then to off, then back on. All levels of volume on both sliders.
Another strange problem is if I go into settings to Sounds & Notifications, if I click OK on any setting it goes to the Incoming Call setting. It doesn't close the screen out anymore. I can click OK, turn off the sounds, set it to something different, clicking OK no longer accepts the setting. If I go to another setting other than for Phone: Incoming Call, then clicking OK brings me back to that option.
I've done a soft and hard reset. Any ideas?
Thisstrange indeed. The rear speaker is used for the phone ring and clearly this is ok because you can play music (I am assuming you were not using headphones to test the music).
Before you said you had done a hard reset, I would have sworn that would cure the problem. This may seem cheeky but I assume you really have done a hard reset (some folks think they have but haven't really). Can we assume you used the two soft keys plus the stylus in the hole method?
If so it may be worth trying another couple of times.
Temporarily at least, if that fails, it may be worth trying to flash a different ROM. However, before that, perhaps you should wait to see if anyone else has some words of wisdom.
Mike
Thanks for the response. You are correct, I wasn't actually doing a hard reset. If I do a hard reset, I assume I lose all my settings and go back to the fresh ROM state?

Yes you lose all data that you have saved to the phone, including all installed applications. Data on the storage card remains ok. However, even if you installed an app to the storage card, you may still have to reinstall it.. Some might say you should do a full backup of the full system with the likes of SPB full backup, BUT if you were to restore the ful back-up after a hard reset, you would probably just put back the fault you are trying to resolve!
Mike
I can't really find a good suggestion but to Flash the ROM. But as mikechannon said, rule # 1 is to make a backup. Maybe you can use PIM Backup, so that only the contact and others are only the ones backed up. Your problem may reoccur for full system backup, as mentioned above.
Thanks
Just following up that the hard reset did fix the problem with the phone not ringing on incoming call. Also thanks for the PIM backup suggestion. This saved me a lot of time.
No problem.. Just here to help.. Peace..
