Hermes unable to sync and run out of idea - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I know this may sounds like the usual not unchecking the advanced network tick box but I promise I've tried everything to get my hermes to sync and it won't
situation is I've upgraded to a 6.1 ROM and WMDC (Vista Ultimate 32) says connecting (the device is installed on first connection) and then as it gets to the point where it would normally ask you to set up the partnership, it goes back to not connected. The phone has the two arrows still there like it is connected.
I've ruled out most things and have been trawling around the forums but I've just reached a dead end.
I don't think it's the USB as it does the same thing with bluetooth.
I don't think it's the computer because I recently changed my machine (same OS though)
I don't think it's the phone because it's actually a replacement after my screen broke on my original
I even don't think it's the ROM because no one else has this trouble in the thread ([20755] [OPTIMIZED Manilla2d IS HERE!][09/29](AlmostNak3d)(V8))
I've also tried uninstalling WMDC as much as is possbile on Vista and I've tried disabling the windows firewall
It's so frustrating, as I seem to have 6.0 working no probs but that ROM is just so good I have to have it (but with some contacts would be best)
The only thing that I can think of is that I flash the ROMS through an XP machine. This can't be causing the issue can it?
Any help gratefully received. I determined that this phone stays with me until the HD comes out and it really doesn't have long to go now

no one have any suggestions
(or did i post this in the wrong forum)?

Have you tried deleting all partnerships on the phone and computer and then tried to sync it. I have the same rom as you and device and i have problems only when i try to sync via bluetooth. Check the com port for the bluetooth is not conflicting with the WMDC. You could even try disabling the bluetooth comport and see if that makes a difference
If it syncs with an xp machine, why dont you try, exporting the contacts as comma seperated values(windows) and then import them on to the xp machine, at least that way you will have your contacts on the phone.
Also why do you flash with the xp machine and not vista, have you installed all updates in vista?

thanks for the reply SM. Sorry for the delay in my response but I've been sunning in the maldives! I got things going before leaving (so i had some contacts) by doing pretty similar to what you suggested. I sync the xp machine with the vista machine and then sync the phone with the xp machine. I've tried deleting the partnerships on both sides (i've even tried reinstalling vista) but I'll give the removing of the bt com ports a go i think.
my flashing from xp was just a historic thing. i think there may have been an issue with vista once as i was staying away from it for some reason but after my previous post i actually think i did then flash from vista

Upgrade with vista?
Upgrade with vista? its posible I think it has issues...
I can recomend to you...
1.- download again the usb drivers for your Motherboard on XP machine...
2.- Even if you have Windows Vista you can aquire a XP emulator for Win vista and do these things.
3.- If you dont ant to install again the drivers for USB ports so....
restart your PC and your PPC witout unplug your PPC let it boots togheter... it fix my trouble with the same ROM you have...

ActiveSync 4.0 or 4.1 refuses USB connection to EXEC

Dear All,
Please help, my new O2 EXEC is sitting here almost totally useless without ActiveSync.
I did a very stupid thing:
I plugged in the Exec via the USB cable before installing ActiveSync 4.0.
What used to happen (back inthe day 2001 etc) would be that windows would install its own driver for the portable device and then when you subsequently installed ActiveSync its drivers would not go in and hence ActiveSync would not recognise your device.
What is happening now seems like the same sort of issue in that now having installed ActveSync it is just sitting there saying no connection.
For ActiveSync 3.6 and below this is a documented problem and here is the fix
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264693/en-us
BUT for me this does not work (well because there is no yellow unknown device in Device managers other devices).
In AUDIBLE terms
a) I get a du-duh sound when I plug in EXEC (like if you plugged in a USB key for example)
b) It shows up in the Device Manager-> Network Adapters as "Windows Mobile-based Device"
c) ActiveSync 4.0 or 4.1 does NOT give me the dulde-de-dah sound
d) ActiveSync shows no connections
Anybody any bright ideas? Surely I am not the only twonk to have inadvertently plugged in the EXEC first
Answers greatly appreciated.
BASICALLY HELP
PS: Have also looked at ActiveSync trouble shooter 2001, the ActiveSync 4.0 troubleshooting article from Msoft, tried switching off firewall, no result. Have tried deleting the Mobile-based Device, uninstalling AS 4.0, rebooting, reinstalling AS 4.0 or 4.1 then plugging EXEC,no good.
PPS: I convinced a friend to let me install AS 4.1 on his computer and then plugged in the EXEC and all was fine, so the EXEC itself is sound.
Maybe this will help:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
Sorry, didn't read your message good.
Just see now you already did looked at the link....
But another idea: if your device works on your friend PC, then why not
do a clean install for the OS on your own PC?
Maybe this will solve your problem.
Dodger,
Thanks for the thoughts. Well actually thinking about a reinstall of my computer due a moments lapse of concentration is a difficult undertaking. With the backup of the on computer databases as well as over 100 applications installed, I think this would take me several person days.
Currently my thoughts are to clone the partition and then do a windows "over install" onthe clone, but logically that will not work because <of course> the whole point of an over install is that the registry and all applications are preserved.
I spent over 3 solid hours of googling, installing, uninstalling drivers yesterday trying to fix and can't believe I am the only one who has had this problem!
Perhaps somebody with a working ActiveSync can elaborate how does the EXEC show up in device manager (when its plugged in and synced), and also what device driver XP and /or Windows 2003 server would be using.
Thanks mb.
I was facing similar issue. Solution? Yes, uninstall my firewall, connect and sync with my JasjAr and then install the Firewall with Jasjar already connected !
This may help:
Open network connections on ur PC so u can see all connections.
Make sure AS (PC side) is enabled for USB
turn off JJ and plug it in to USB
Turn on JJ whilst watching the window of netwrok connections on ur PC
A new connection icon should pop up, then MAYBE dissapear again
Right click this icon, before it dissapears, and check it's enabled, then select properties
Now check the following items:
- does top box say "windows mobile based device"
- click "configure"
- under configure, is there a button somewhere (mine's working so I can't recall exactly where) that says something like "enable mobile device". If so, then you need to click this.
If this all fails, then repeat but with another USB port. The reason for this seeming waste of time is that you will get a DIFFERENT "Local area connection nn" icon, which may work for you.
I cant believe there hasnt been one mention of rebooting your PC - Which I can assume you already have done?
What OS are you running on your PC?
I have only just got my MDA PRO but this may help! as I did the same thing and for a while XP Pro wouldnt recognise the device.
Uninstall ActiveSync
Reboot PC
Install Activesync V4.0
Plug in USB Device
If there is still a problem connecting you shoudl see a USB device not recognised in your deviuce manager.
It almost seems like there is a time you have to wait before XP will respond normally to you unplugging and replugging in the USB.
Failing this you may have to uninstall Activesync and tehn remove all activesync registry keys it may have left behind! Then reboot and start again!
Just having tisproblem now, this is pïss poor of MS to still be foisting off onto us this Activesync package in such a terible state.
I've just had activesync stop working on me. It would connect but then refuse to sync anything even though it previously worked fine. I think it got upset after I booted up the PC with the Exec connected.
Anyway an uninstall and reinstall of Activesync on the PC cured the problem. Not the most robust software though.

What works for me is to turn off the handheld, and connect the cable after that. Then turn on the device if needed. Works mot of the time then.... no excuse for MS though....

WMDC and 8125

I cannot seem to get my 8125 to sync with windows mobile device center in Vista. I have tried both bluetooth and usb cable, and I have turned off Windows Firewall.
When I connected it via the cable, the only thing that installed and appeared my device manager was a Smartphone USB Sync under mobile devices. I have read other people are getting a windows mobile device under portable devices, among other things.
When I try connecting via bluetooth, Activesync just does not show up when I pair my phone and my computer as a service.
Are there drivers I can get from somewhere, or am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks!
You have to update the WMDC in vista inorder to sync. Had the same problem me self.. kinda crazy if u ask me eh...
I know it has been a long time but I have wmdc 6.1 and an 8125 with the most recent HTC cingular rom. How do I get bluetooth sync working? My activesync on my phone says that the service is not installed and I am kind of stuck there.
A ton of google searches have illicited no help. I figurd I would try here...
I am paired properly with the laptop as I am able to use the modem as DUN and get internet working with no problems. I cant seem to get the device center to recognize the phone for syncing my outlook with bluetooth.
Same boat
I am right there with you man. I have tried everything and still no joy. I am going to try and up date my bluetooth software and try it out. I'll let you know if it works for me.
I did it!!
Ok the key is to use the same Comm port in WMDC that the wizard uses. For example try to set up a bluetooth partnership with your PC via your wizard. When you see a popup on your desktop that you wizard is trying to connect make a not on which Comm port it is trying to use. (for me it was COM4.) from there go into your setting in WMDC and check the second box to allow the wizard to use differant ports. Select your port and click ok. You should be good to go. Let me know if that did or didn't work for you. Best of luck!

XP not seeing Touch HD, possible driver issue?

Good Morning to all,
Firstly hello to all on the forum, got my Touch HD at the weekend and have already found this forum very useful, especially in getting the favourtie people pictures to stop looking so crap.
I now have a problem I need to ask about. I have plugged my HD into my Vista 64bit machine and it picks up fine, lets me access the HD as if it was an external source. I then managed to set it up via activesync, not through choise just couldnt find anything else. Got it connected and syncing via bluetooth as well.
I have now come into work and plugged it into my work XP SP2 machine and it starts installing all the windows mobile stuff and then comes up with could not complete blah blah, when you click for more info its an unknown device.
Is this a driver issue, i.e. do I need to download one for my XP machine to recognise modern day tech?
Have got the number for HTC support but thought I would ask here first as I really like the way everyone manages to explain everything so clearly.
Thanks in advance
Jody
You should just have to install Active Sync 4.5 on your XP machine and off you go.
Appoligies if you did this, but you didn't mention above
If you still having problems, what's the full error text?
Ta
Dave
Activesync is installed, and has been uninstalled and re-installed just to make sure.
The message states that the USB device is not recognised by Windows and need to try re-installing it.
Thing is, it did just about manage a connection earlier ActiveSync showed connecting and then popped up and said unable to connect to device press ok to troubleshoot and ran some scans.

Had similar problems, but it was the Windows XP firewall blocking activecync
Thanks, but we stopped the windows firewall client when we were investigating this anyway.
Possible solution
Good day,
My XP didnt detect HD as well. Im using Active sync 4.5. To work around this, go to:
Settings>USB to PC>Enable faster data sync
Uncheck this option. This solved my problem.
Good luck. Cheers
Hello, have tried unticking that box as well.
I have uninstalled Activesync again, and reinstalled off of the CD. All installs ok, plug the device in for the first time and select activesync on the handset, it installs the pocketUSB Snc on the PC and then comes up your device could not be installed properly. Open device manager and the PocketUSB Sync shows with a yellow explanation mark on it saying that the device could not be started.
Have now also tried it on an XP SP3 VM Machine, it originally kicked up same windows error. Then ActiveSync on the VM and device showed connecting, then they both stopped and no further.
Problem fixed.... Useful hint for anyone reading this... dont use a different miniUSB cable, or make sure you certainly dont use a cheap one.... I borrowed someone's in the office who was sinking another HTC device and it worked first time.
Thanks to all your inputs
Jody

Vista not recognising device

My M3100 did previously sync fine with vista but two months later on the same 'puter it's not recognised now. It'll sync fine with another 'puter on XP and activesync 4.2 so I doubt the problem lies with the M3100. On Vista (32 bit Ultimate) I have WMDC 6.1. I've tried turning off Zonealarm (windows firewall is permanently off). I've tried deleting the mobile adapter and letting it reinstall. I've tried it with and without a microSD in and tried soft resetting it whilst connected. I've tried several cables and a cradle and also several USB ports. I'm fresh out of ideas and hope to pick the brains of someone who knows better please. Running WM5 if that makes any difference to things though I did tinker with it to get it to work with a 4GB card (It did sync with that set-up previously).
After vast mucking about I've just got a sync by going:-
start
settings
connections
usb to pc
disabling the advanced network functionality
Hey presto it works though to what degree I've still to find out!

Can't sync HD2 w/Win7

I just upgraded my desktop software to Windows 7 from XP but now I can't sync with my HD2. I'm using 32 bit Win7 and Outlook 2007 and when I plug in the USB cable from my HD2 I get the error message, "Driver not found". Anyone else have this problem?

I'm using Vista and had a similar problem. Solved by installing Windows Mobile Device Centre. This is needed instead of activesync.
Yes - there have been tonnes of issues with Win 7. See for example this thread
I tried every possible solution. In the end, I had to re-install windows 7. That fixed it up right away.
A few of the possible solutions are USB related so do a search on how to uninstall and re-install USB drivers in Device Manager.
A pos solution.
In your control panel click on your device manager icon , scroll down to portable devices and uninstall all of the devices found within this cat.
Reboot your computer, i then have to re pair the phone to the computer. This works for me in Vista , ive found that if i use different usb slots to sync my phone things just seem to get messed up. I think this may work as well in W7, i use W7 sometimes and things seem to be simular.
Hope this helps
Regards
