free up program memory - Wing, P4350 General

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone can help me find a way to free up some program memory. I've searched a could old threads, and still haven't found a good way to do it. I have opentouch installed on my phone, and I use the htc home plug in.After a soft reset I can get about 29.63 mb free after reset. I really only need 3 mb more, so I can play my pocketgba emulator. This is the last thing I need to get my herald/wing the way I want it, please help!

and I forgot to mention my pagepool was set to 2mb

How much you need to play that emulator?

32mb total. i'm 4 away from that

I'm sure you thought of this already, but you could flash to a rom (ie. just2clean) or something like that. Then you could install everything you want to make sure you have enough memory.

actually I didn't know there was such a rom. i'm new to all this stuff, i just started messing around with my phone like 3 weeks ago. does just2clean have a rom with wm 6.1?

try justme, newer version. I can barely get 32 by turning off the radio and taking out the sd card, with pagepool set to 4. You can try the same with 2 mb pagepool. Don't know about Just2clean, but justme has 6.1

32 is a HUGE stretch in RAM availability. Are you sure your emu needs 32mb of program memory to run? That seems more than a bit excessive.

where did u get thte gba emulator?

i got the emulator from http://www.sunbug.net/products/view/141
is there a better gba emulator out?

MDA is very sluggish at times

Hey all,
I'm new to WM5 (or WM for that matters) and picked up my MDA from Tmobile a few days ago. I noticed windows becomes very sluggish at times (takes a long time for a key response). It's so slow sometimes it looks like it has hung in between program changes
I'm just running the basic programs that came with the phone and not using SD card at all.
Is this because I'm running low on Program memory? I noticed my program is at around 5 MB when this happens.
Should this even be happening w/ the basic apps? It seems to help when I start stop some of the running programs.
I hope I don't have OC the damn thing to run basic apps.
ROM version: 1.8.10.2 WWE (any better out there?)
ROM date: 12/10/05
I have an 8125 and it can get slow when running a few large programs of things. Like PIE or Opera & Media Player or Core. I will also tell you that its not an extremely fast device but it is in part due to the fact that programs are not writen to utilize the processor the Wizard has. That's what I have come to understand atleast. If anyone else has input on it please share.
Later; Lew
I was hoping Opera would be less "fat" but from you have indicated that might not be the case. I wonder if Verizon's XV6700 make a difference in speed since their version is 400mhz.
I figure they're pretty much the same device and decided to go w/ TMobile since it's GSM.
Back to the slow issue, I notice the apps don't really close even if you close them. I have go to System to manually stop them to get the RAM back. Is that normal?
It is also slow because of memory design. There are more topics on this. You can't lose data when battery is empty, but type of memory used is slower.
Well thats a trade I am willing to make. I was always checking my battery on my SX66. Now atleast I can relax and jsut use the device. The 6700 from verizon should run these apps faster because it has a normal but higher speed procesor. It is 400 mhz but not dual core. Where as the Wizard is 200 (195) mhz Dual Core. I think that if apps were writen to utilize this they would run much better, as fast as the 400mhz.

Do you have Skype installed?
My xda mini S became extremely slow a month ago or so. It was pretty much unusable. Once I uninstalled Skype there was a massive speed increase.

That doesn't make sense, unless you were constantly running skype. Just having skype installed doesn't slow down the device. I have it installed, and there are no resources being used if I don't launch it.
Optical,
Have you applied the various reg hacks (WM5 Cache, and Glyphecache) yet? They do make a difference.
Skype has a minimum processor speed requirement, quite clearly stated on their website, which the XDA Mini unfortunately does not meet. Again, unfortunately that is the only version you can use for it since earlier Skype builds will not run at all under WM5. One trick is to run Skype from the MiniSD card which has the advantage of freeing up precious RAM, in fact I would recommend you only install any new applications onto the MiniSD card.
Skype
In my case I found a noticeable improvement once I uninstalled Skype. It wasn't running constantly. I regularly checked the Task Manager closing all unnecessary apps as it was so slow.
Might just be me though!

When you close programs in Windows Mobile they are not realy stopped!!
Thats why your memory is around 5 mb after a while.
If you want to stop programs at once, you need some special programs like SPB Pocket Plus.
May be this will help your memory loss and slow ppc.

Very true.
Another good one that I like using is Battery Pack Pro. The nice little "X" is in the corner of the screen and it lets you "click" the program close like windows normally would. It also lets you click on the "X" to see any running apps and force close them.
I'm just waiting for my miniSD card before I go with the tweaks. I'm just a little surprised at what I have to do to just run the apps the OS came with. I guess I had a higher expectation for this device as for performance. You would think 64MB on a phone device is enough!
I noticed one of the tweaks is references the GPS. What is that about? Is that referring to GPS as in GPS receiver? =)
I got a BT receiver and planning to use it but I would love to be surprised about the GPS feature.

FREE UP MEMORY RAM v1605

How can i free up memory ram? It seems is 64 MB, but i donĀ“t know how obtain more free memory for programs than 29 mb when my v1605 is running without any program in use.
yes you have a maximum of 64mb of ram.
The operating system itself and the software loaded by your your device retail supplier (imate, dopod, htc, orange, congular etc) takes up around half of your ram. this is when the phone has booted up and 'you' have not loaded any applications.
therefore 29mb of free ram seems good.
Thanks, the probles is that i have some games that needs 32 free memory ram. There is not any way to do?

i can obtain 32.5-33mb on a fresh soft reboot on my 8525... I chose not to install any of cingular extension rom and only installed the keyboard remap cab from the extrom...
and i installed most of my apps to the extension folder...
Also does anyone know of any apps that free's up ur ram as if u just done a soft reset??? i remember someone reccomend an app like that...
The most I have ever got free is around 33Mb so if you want to runs games that *need* 32Mb you will be struggling. This is on a bare Hermes (no programs installed) with nothing from the ext ROM loaded and no operator junk.
The best program I have come across for freeing up memory is MemMaid

New Wing Owner. Could use some tips.

First of all, I love it.
I have currently installed:
-Pocket Weather
-Google Maps
-Battery Status
-And a 2gb SD card.
I have overclocked it at 247mhz. Read it was save, and so on.
Now, I have seen other phones with MUCH more memory. I have been having about 10mb free daily.
I have seen phones with 85mb+ daily. Just curious how that can be established.
My phone is great, and quick at the moment, but there are those time where it holds back for a second of 2.
What can I do to keep the phone running good? Without crashing, keeping it up to date, and keeping it save?
Another thing would be, how can I watch videos on Youtube? I downloaded a flash player a while back, but it never seemed to work. Heard people downloading Flash Player Bundle, but it never worked for me :-(.
Thanks a bunch guys!
to watch youtube you need a streaming media player (HTC)..... as far as the memory you S.O.L. unless you flash your rom!!!!! the only tip i can give you is do some reg tweaks, page pool is a must and since its new do a hard resest and when it start to load the ppc apps do a soft reset (or pull the battery out) to stop it from load alot of that stuff you wont use. Also get a 4gig sd card and put everything on it, right now my wing has 23 program memory and 14 storage memory that with about 20 programs on it... GOOD LUCK....keep in mind this is all trail and error ive hard reset alot in the beginning and now i softrest about 10 time a day trying to make it better..."dont be afraid my brother close yo eyes and sqeeze the ************" fad2blk
if you want to get the most out of your phone, I'd reccommend flashing a new rom.
Personally, I'd recommend one of ITJE or ASERG roms.
If you want to watch Youtube movies on your device, Download the latest TCPMP and Flash Video Bundle. Install them both, then go to youtube page with your device.
Search on a title and tap on the picture.
You'll get 3 options.
Play Video: Open TCPMP and streams the video.
Save Video: It saves the video
Linked Page: It open the page is it would on your regular computer. without the player.
This should do. And if you want to run it faster or anything, Take duprade's advice.
Read a manual on How to Flash A New ROM. There are cool features on a custom ROM.
Such as the TCPMP as i mentioned before. You'll get more memory and you can make the phone run faster as you have now.
Oh.. about the memory issue. Why you have about 10MB free is the fact that the standard Windows Mobile eats all the space.
Our ROM developers here on XDA-developers have cured this problem.
Im running Touch-IT right now and i have 36 MB storage free and 15 MB programs.
I know this is a long reply but since your new here and your new to your wing, i thought i gave you this advice.
Welcome to the forum. If you need any help about your wing, feel free to post a new thread and we'll help you!
Flash your phone~!

phones with 81mb of memory (program OR storage) are simply equipped with more memory than the Herald is.
something that i do that works great
before i change my rom i copy all the programs that are installed on my phone to my computer for example games, internet browsers, all media players except for TCPMP and Windows Media, picture viewers, google maps, and drawing/ illustrating programs. they are all pretty stable and run perfect when i update my rom and copy them to my Micro SD Card. i save at least 20 MB of program storage.
oh and the rom i use is OpenTouch V3.0 Lite. saves me a ton of memory
Alright, so where is a good web site to download this stuff? (Player and Page pool)
There was a web site that had a bunch of free downloads. It was pretty neat, but I lost the link to it...

ozone wm 6.5 upgrade issue

hey all, i am new here and on everythingwm. i am having trouble upgrading my ozone to wm 6.5 the phone says i don't have enough space, even after i hard reset it. there seems only to be 70 some MB free. the program requires 86. how can i free up space to do this, or am i missing something? i even tried to do it through my sd card and it didn't work either.

No multitasking?

I realize, this maybe a newbie question, but I'll ask any way: Is there no real multitasking on the HTC Universal? No matter which ROM I tried so far, I e.g. couldn't run AIM and Opera simultaneously. The program not frontmost would just close. Same for IE and AIM or IE and Opera.
Or is that some custom registry tweak to save memory?
Are you trying 6.5 roms with around 8MBs of free ram? Try 6.1 ones with at least 25 MBs.

Actually I'm running a 6.1-rom. Just ~ 24 MB Program memory free, but I suppose that should still be too much to explain the automatical close of programs, when not frontmost.
I even tried a WM 5.0-rom. Same result. Weird.
perhaps its the xbutton settings? or do you even have it installed. I can mutlitask just fine in my WM5 rom. but then again wm5s better so =(
Got it working with an official German wm5-ROM by Qtek (UNI_QTEK_13096_185_10900_GER_Ship.exe).
Strange it didn't work with other ROMs.
