That's a nice looking phone. HTC sure has many new and interesting models coming

I love this phone

looks GREAT to me

Finaly, Htc made their own big touch-screen, sure beats iPhone and Xperia (3.5 and 3.0):333
Tech and Os specs would be great !

Taken off of Engadget

I am using Hermes (AT&T). Was very tempted to get Kaiser. And I've been saving money for Touch Pro.... I really hope they will make Touch HD Pro with a slide-out keyboard and normal audio jack (not a mini-USB).
P.S. iPhone sucks!

looks good, kind of like the omnia. and actually, the iphone doesn't suck.

i don't think that it has an keyboard, its too small

If they ever release a CDMA version i'm getting one. If it has a capacitive touchscreen, i'll be in heaven.

I so want that, I posted earlier and now when I`ve seen specs etc. it looks promising.
I might upgrade my Kaiser to that when time comes

As nice as the phone looks to be, I can't help but say I'm disappointed in HTC. I feel they are oversaturating the market with products and not allowing any one phone to have some sort of longevitiy. This phone makes the Diamond the new Touch Cruise and the Touch Cruise the new Touch. Over time people will realize that if you wait a few months something much better is going to come out from HTC, so you may as well wait for it.
This is really shocking to see so soon after the Diamond, which really hasn't even had a chance to peak in the market if you ask me. Any potential sale they were going to have with the Diamond is probably gone now. HTC needs to consolidate their offerings to put out better spec'd equipment and to give people their money's worth.
But still, nice phone.

Here is what I posted on the other thread with some pictures I am using from the original post over at the other forum...
Here are some more pictures....taken from here:

I kinda feel the same way. I was just getting ready to upgrade my Sprint Touch for the soon to be released Touch Diamond, but then I see this which is just about perfect for my needs.
I'll probably still get the Touch Diamond for now and plan to upgrade next in 2009 to a WM7 device, well unless this gets a capacitive touchscreen then it'll have to be mine.

Notice how the baby does not have a joystick?
How are you going to Scroll Zoom without that Capacitive JoyPad?
Not to start the Rumour Mill or anything but..... Maybe you should be a nice boy so Santa takes good care of you
Just let me dream a bit here.

agree, cannot imagine how to use windows mobile without d-pad? is it a fault?

Really a nice model!
Only problem I see, there is no keyboard... but still is a good candidate
Screen is 3.?" right?

Are you guys going to upgrade (soon) to the Touch Diamond?

Not sure if this has been asked before on this forum, so I'll ask now..
The Touch Diamond has been around for a couple of months now, and will be coming to all countries very soon. Do you guys think it's worth it to make the upgrade from Elf/Elfin to the Diamond?
I guess it all depends on what your needs are. I mean I don't watch videos on it, and I mainly use it for PIMs, documents and GPS.
However, the Diamond has the following features which look very enticing:
- Higher res
- Better procesor
- Better camera
- Integrated GPS (no more Bluetooth receivers!)
- Almost same height but thinner than Elf
PIMs/Camera/GPS/MP3 in one unit is pretty amazing.
I'm thinking of getting a used Elfin (a second one) just for ROM cooking purposes, but now I think I could save that couple hundred dollars on a future Diamond (along with selling my current Elfin to help pay for it).
I might be. It's a matter of funds and what kind of limitations Rogers puts on getting one. I really don't see a need to upgrade to better phone when I have had to nerf some of the features on my Elfin because Rogers wants my first born child as payment to use them.

Hmm. Do you think Rogers will get the Touch Diamond? No word yet as far as I can tell. Rogers already has the new iPhone; Bell has the Samsung Instinct, and Telus is coming out with the Touch Diamond.
The 2.8'' screen sounds too small for 640x480 res. Also 65k color is crappy comparing to iPhone.
I think I'll wait for the next model.

Why should it always come down to comparing to the iPhone? It's a great Windows Mobile phone in its own right. And the iPhone is only 480x320 with a bigger screen.
I'll buy the first NAM 3G device that is as small as the Touch. I've been waiting patiently for a very long time. To answer your question, absofrigginlutely.
The only thing that worries me about the Touch Diamond in the inavailability of a microSD slot and battery life. That's why I have a penchant for the iPhone 3G at the moment. Is the battery life so terrible?
not convinced by TD, will wait for X1 and omnia ..

No MicroSD? Ouch, that sucks, how can we do a backup of our files? I guess the memory is divided into 2 places for storage then.
Yes, it's second 4 GB storage visible as Internal Memory.
Well then, it's really not that bad then

Best HTC phone of 2008???
I currently have the Touch and recently upgraded the ROM...very nice with GPS.
I will definitely upgrade if Sprint will let me keep my retention plan and not switch to the everything plan.

Does anyone agree or disagree??? I currently have the HTC Touch...great phone. Also does anyone know if Sprint will force me to upgrade to their everything plan or can I keep my current retention plan when I upgrade to the Touch Diamond? Thanks.
I just upgraded from an Atom to an Elf on Monday, so I don't think I'll be moving up to the Touch Diamond any time soon ;-). Personally, these top flight units cost waaay to much money for me to consider being an early adopter. However, if it came down to it and I had to upgrade, I would personally go for the Touch Pro over the Diamond because of the keyboard and microSD slot. The extra thickness isn't that great but I think the keyboard would outweigh that con.
i have a tytn II and are going to swap as soon as the touch pro comes out, the dimond to me seams no better than mine at the moment, and i want a qwerty keyboard like the tytnII

yeh, those three look very sleek and hot!!
Fonk ! I know for most of us here it's not a deal breaker however as far as I can see there is not A SINGLE one with a decent camera w flash !!!
It's a shame !
It might turn out that next gen OMNIAs (when they leak ) will be better !
WOW, great find! It looks like its going to be a good year if all these do make it to final versions.
Am I seeing things or do the Topaz and Rhodium have AT&T written in parenthesis!? Man, I sure hope AT&T gets these devices and hopefully by summer, might just have to wait off on upgrading to the Fuze when my time comes in the next 5/6 months if this is true!
Rhodium will be the such expected HD Touch Pro!!
I can´t wait to have it!!
haha i just got on xda to post this, but i've been beaten to it. I think it's odd that they only have a keyboard version coming to the US, but no plain HD version. Hopefully that will change and maybe i'll change over to a 3g version of the HD.

I'm like'n that whitestone so far!
If they are still rocking resistive screens on the higher-end models I am not going to be a happy camper.
And seriously where is the flash? These geniuses are going to have 14 megapixel cameras without flash... lolz.
*crys... I went with the touch pro and paid near full price simply because i wanted a keyboard... Now it looks like they are bringing out a HD with keyboard.... *WAAhhhhhh!

Neither will I. I won't buy another HTC model with a resistive screen. Sorry guys, the capacitive screen is so much better...
personally i don't mind the resistive screen at all, especially since now they are 95%+ as responsive as the capacitive. Not to mention i like the ability of using my phone with gloves on (cold days suk)

Here's a comment on this page left by an Anonymous poster:
Quite simple, the Iolite, everybody knows what model is (a Touch Pro,without keyboard and less scrrem resolution and style XD),The Mapple (3G T-Mobile Excalibur) and the Twin (GSM+EVDO version of the Iolite) too,Topaz it´s a Touch Diamond with a bigger, higher (I guess) resolution display and an AT&T version, the Citrine and the Topaz C are the Touch Dual versions of the Topaz (the C is a T-Mobile version),Rodium it's a evolution of the HTC Wing with a Verizon edition (Rhodium W) and the Tungsten it's the T-Mobile version (also in US) of the Rhodium and the Tungsten W,the Sprint one,the Willow W its the Sprint mensager and the Cedar W,the GSM version of the Willow W,Beryl it's the evolution of the Touch 3G and not the Touch HD,Firestone it's the Touch Max with LTE and not Wimax (I recognize the style and the low white triangle symbol XD),Whitestone W is an evolution of the Touch HD (Blackstone) with high multimedia features like TV and a stand, the Thoth is the Athena evolution now with the magnetic keyboard of the X7510 and maybe it's only by T-Mobile,Magnetic is the Iolite evolution,I have some bad news about new Android phone G2 (Sapphire),first it will come to Vodafone, then to DoCoMo,and so then in it's 2.0 version to a free-SIM version,Jasper C it's another menager from Sprint asa TyTn II evolution in CDMA,Hero is the more colorful evolution of the G1 (maybe only the colors) and Memphis is the GSM/3G version of the Japer C as an evolution of the TyTn II! I hope this being helpfull!

So Whitestone might be the replacement for Blackstone (with a stand. possible tv-out? or even digital tv built in), obvious really when you look at the names. The Rhodium doesn't appear to be the Touch HD pro, probably a Xperia type device with 3.2" display and keyboard.

I know.. as soon as I saw this on the site, I could not resist and wanted to share with you all immediately. Its so exiting seeing so many models. Hope most of them will come with captitave screens with WM 6.5 Since WM 7 is delayed forever.
Hmmmm, the future is HTC!
There are no details about screen, OS etc is there?
Some sleak design there, going to be an interesting year for smart phones. Will they make less because of the Global economy or will they make more to stimulate spending?
HTC are on it we just need an OS for the future.
Nice post!!

What to get after the HD?

I've got to say I love my HD. Almost everything about it... The big let down for me is the camera. I can get some fantastic shots out in the open during the day. But go inside and introduce people to shot and its a crock of ****. I've got the topaz cam cab installed but it makes little difference. Nearly all pictures of my kids come out blurry.
So, I've started looking around for what to get next. Sadly, at the moment, I dont seem to be able to find anything that comes close to my expectations. That Toshiba TG01 sounds good, but I hate the look of it. I like the look of the HTC Hero, but reviews let it down, saying its essentially a magic with a style upgrade.
What are other people considering after their Touch HD's?
The Omnia II looks like a great phone and would be the phone I would upgrade to, but since its not a HTC phone it gets no XDA support which could be a big blow (is for me). If your okay with that, I'd recommended the Omnia II.
It feels as if we have come to the end of the road whit the Blackstone,
yet there is nothing new at the horison.
The next thing I expect from a phone is multitouch, still only iPhone
has that to offer. Isnt that strange?
Basicly Id like a HTC Hero whit better hardware, multitouch and something new...
Read about nVidia haveing a new better chipset and prosessor.
When will that hit the market?
I agree with you KB, lack of XDA support is a big no no for me as well.
Ethania, pardon me being a newb, but what defines a multitouch device?
Which current HTC product has the best camera?
I'm looking for something with mindows mo/symbian, better camera with flash, no bigger than the touch hd and lots of programs to play with.
Currently looking at the Omnia 2, Omnia HD, N97/86 or waiting for HTC to make a phone with a decent camera. I played with a mates SE C905 yesterday and I could see myself going for the Omnia 2 or Omnia HD for the camera - miles better than anything on a HTC device.

I would say:
A device which tracks more than one point on the screen simultaniously.
How does that sound? Maybe Im forgetting some important technical term,
but for us mortals, I think this is enough
i wish id held out for an n97 having been a nokia man for years naturally i wanted a n97 but im on o2 and they dont want to sell it because here in the uk that's who you get an iphone with, so i got a touch hd and im deeply disappointed no 3d graphics, crap camera, no native networking/file sharing support, slow wifi transfer speeds, crap video playback, poor music player all things i could do out of the box without hasstle on my old 1st gen n95! not to mention its SLOW!!!
i shouldn't have to hack n mod my phone to make it work reasonably
touch hd for sale 2 months old good as new !!lol!!
sorry if im ranting just for my first winmob im not impressed

Hopefully the camera will be better in low light situs than the touch HDs cam.
The Leo looks effing brilliant
I like the Omnia 2 but couldn't stand the dangling stylus! Why can't they build it into the device!
I like the HTC design but is disappointed with its quality. My HD has to go back to service twice and the service centre is in another state so the turnaround is slow.
After sales service is important for me and I understand there is a Samsung walk-in service centre here in Sydney Australia.
The NEXT PHONE...
Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 (Rachael)...
Excellent Now I have two to choose from when they arrive, the X3 and the Leo
To be fair Ive always got on well with Sonys. The cameras are always tip top on them.
walkin service sounds like a winner - I like the fact that there are many SE ad Nokia centres around the UK but I'm yet to see a drop in HTC one - although their base is in Milton Keynes which is in the next county - still too far and too many annoying roundabouts!

The Zii isn't a phone though.
did a quick research and I think there are three or maybe 4 devices to wait for -- SE X2 , SE X3 , HTC Leo -- theyre all almost equal by spec except Leo has more ram (screen size doesnt count ) the fourth device (60% that Im wrong) could be the rumored HTC device with Nvidia chipset-- I have a big "I dont know or Im confused" about that device, cuz maybe its the Leo with the chipset!!!
BTW: what happened to those rumors about microsoft phone with tegra??

The upcoming Zune HD will use the Tegra chipset but, like the Zii that was linked-to on the previous page, it's just a media player.

Should i buy a Blackstone?

Hello to all
I want to buy a new pda, cause my Diamond is getting slow, but i don't know witch one to buy.
I like Blackstone but i don't know if it's fast with the new rom's and so, or after buying i will regret it.
I know there are new models and so but were i live they are too expensive, so i have to stik with the older ones
Please give me your feedback.
With the coming of windows mobile 7 and nvidia tegra chipset i predict huge technological leaps in the terms of ppcs by late 2010 so if you can wait a few months i believe you'll be rewarded...
As for blackstone, i wouldn't recommend it personally although i have one and currently love it. I'd save money to get something better by mid-late 2010. Time flies
The original ROM is quite fast, but not very advanced. If you install a custom rom a lot of new functions come availible and the speed stays the same. You can also go for nice eyecandy, but then you will end up with a littlebit less speed.
For you to decide....
the Diamond is alomst as fast or as slow as the blackstone.
so i do not recommend you to buy a HD.
I also had a Diamond and changed to Hd.
It has a bigger screen, that is all.
But this is only my opinion.
Good luck.

Buy HD2, em 12x sem juros.
+1 for the Touch HD2
If you're going for a Windows Mobile phone, that's the one to get.
The HD has the same CPU and RAM as many other HTC phones, the difference is the 3.8" screen (bigger than any other phone on the market except the HD2).
I use WM 6.1 (topix 3.1.2), I found WM 6.5 and Manilla 2.5 too heavy for this hardware. I do not benefit from a colourful and animation-intensive device if it's slow (like using XP vs Vista on a computer with 1 GB of RAM).

I think you are spot on there. I agree with what you say and even though I currently own a Touch HD, I would also love an Touch HD2, especially for the release of Windows 7 but the price is a big factor. I think it's wise to wait until later this year for the release of other PPC devices that will be competitors to the Touch HD2 and see what they are capable of offering. In my opinion, buying a Touch HD now at this point in time would be a step backwards.
Regards.
In my job I make full use of the 'pda' capability of my trusty Touch HD, and I have been a pda user since the very early 1990s. In terms of upgrading, you just need to ask yourself what you will be using it for! Had to hard reset my Touch HD recently and was very choosey about what software I put back on afterwards. I was really surprised how much faster it was. Easy to be seduced by the impressive HD2 but clearly 2010/11 is going to see some REAL reasons for upgrading from anything that does just about all you want now. Be patient and you are bound to feel your hard earned cash will have been well spent.
hmm, HD isnt much over the Diamond, its essentially the same device with a large display, its a wonderful phone and if you had asked me 6 months ago id say go for it but there is no point just now, too much around the corner later this year, at the very least if you cant afford a new PDA you will find the blackstone price drop and thus save you some cash.
dont get a HD especially on contract as the price between the HD and the HD is not significantly large to warranty bypassing the HD2.
Waiting, thats another discussion altogether, nobody really knows what is coming out and when but if u look at how the market works you will see only slighter better phones trickle out, you wont see major steps i believe. Even if a tegra phone coming out they will find some way to handicap it, perhaps reduced codec support or lack of TV out or something like that.
You really only have three choices I can see, 2 if you discount the nexus if you have concerns about android, Iphone or HD2, iphone if you are not a big tweak fan but you like everything to work well and fast, HD2 if you like speed but love to tweak, then again if you didnt you probably wouldnt be on XDA
The HD2 is ridiculously priced atm though unfortunately. Here's hoping to it dropping down fast into non-business user land.

Agreed, prices are the same as when the HD first came out if not cheaper in some places due to market competition being more fierce now then ever before.
If WM7 doesn't excite you then go Nexus.

HTC HD2 or wait for...?

Well, it seems it is a though decision for many people besides me...
I went from a HTC Touch to a i780 from Samsung. Much better phone than the Touch as everybody should know. Used it for more than a year till I got my hands on a new Samsung Jet. Very nice phone, much lighter, smaller, nice interface, and above all a awesome display (AMOLED 800x480). So I bought it a few months ago, but... the problem is when someone is used to a real smartphone with all the software and apps available, and the true customization options... So, Jet to the closet and i780 back on use, but... always a "but"... after getting used to the awesome display, the i780 just looks like crap.
Ok, so even with lot's of phones on every corner of my house, I'm convinced to get something new. I've tried a HTC Hero from a friend and really liked the HTC Sense interface. Android also seem's to work fine under the Sense skin, but the display and an old OS version (android 1.6) doesn't convince me to spend my money as I know I'll always be thinking on something more "up to date".
I went through net surfing and some stores, and the HD2 is really a awesome device: great, great display, fast, etc... But as we know, soon there will be some great new devices: the HTC Supersonic (HD2 alike with Android); the HTC Bravo (much alike Nexus One, but with the awesome HTC Sense); and the Nexus One itself (not yet available in Portugal, but soon it will get here). Besides those, there will be a new iPhone soon, and I don't believe Apple want's to loose the race of smartphones with a new iPhone with lower specs than the others, so probably a great iPhone will come to the light. I must say, I'm a Mac user, but never felt the "need" for an iPhone, but I confess I really like it.
So, in my place, what would you do? HD2 right now or wait for the others?

Wait for the 5" Dell mini 5 on Android!
I think the new iphone will be very similar in specs to the ipad and it will not have any special '4G' apps. But I could be wrong.
4G is supposed to be the name of the new iPhone... I'm not thinking about new apps, only better specs: display, camera, faster cpu, etc...
By the time 4G/LTE is actually a reasonably implemented cellular standard across Europe, the iPhone "4G" will look like a toy from half a decade ago...
Be happy that there are at least a few places in Portugal with 7.2mbps HSDPA service, and generally available 3.6mbps/1.8mbps maximum speeds (all theoretical, of course).
Just get a HD2 now, friend.
I think you can expect a 5mpix camera, 1GHz Apple processor and MAYBE a better display... which means, in the best case, the specs will match the HTC Bravo.
So, I'd say forget about the iPhone. No iPhone could yet match the hardware specs of its competitors, and that won't change with the next version.
Question that remains: HTC Bravo or HD2... right now, I'd say Bravo, BUT that won't be available until March, which is when Windows Mobile 7 will have already been unveiled.
Bottom line: Wait until the announcement of Windows Mobile 7 on February 15. Chances are that it will blow away every bit of desire you now feel for Android or iPhone

You are right my friend, but once more I want to make an attention call for this: iPhone 4G, it's only the name of the device. It doesn't mean it's built for 4th generation networks. At least, it's the name already seen in the source code of the latest updates of iPhone OS. The new iPhone, will be called 4G the same way it could be called 3GSS, or something else...

Aside from the awesome display, the Bravo it's the one most appealing. HD2 or Supersonic, really have great displays, but they are uncomfortable big to carry out on your pocket (pants pocket of course).
About Windows 7, let's wait and see. To say the true, I've always been a Linux/MacOS user and fan (I work as IT Security Specialist, so Windows is always a bad work tool), but to be honest, I've never had problems with Windows based mobile devices...
At least I hope WinMobile 7 to be as good as Windows 7 for PC.

Yeah, NOW... but as I said, by the time the Bravo gets available, you may already have seen WM7 and may not find the Bravo appealing anymore.
You should just wait now, it's a long time until Bravo, iPhone 4G etc. get available and with the speed that smartphones are evolving, what seems appealing now may already be boring with a month.
If you want a new phone right now, get the HD2. That's undoubtedly the best smartphone thats available now in Europe.
But if you don't mind waiting, just stop wondering now about what you should buy and wait what will happen.
And by the way, the HD2 will not be too big for your pocket at all. In fact, I find it more comfortable than the iPhone 3G and the Touch HD I had before, due to the reduced thickness.

Which would make it the best mobile OS
(says someone who has never touched Mac OS X again since the first beta of Windows 7)

Right now, it is really the best one. But will in the future be available an official OS update with WM7? This is probably the most popular question on the forum about the HD2, and if it really has some "hidden" memory to support it...
About it's size, I tried one in the shop when I was carrying my i780. It is bigger than the i780 and it really feels that big in my pocket, even without the leather case. Bigger than my i780, which is uncomfortable in the pocket (front left pocket of my pants) specially when driving... but I forgive it for the awesome display

The HD2 definitely supports it. It does not need any hidden memory, the official specs are enough. I can promise you this.
What I can not promise, is that HTC will release an official upgrade. If they don't there's still a chance that WM7 for the HD2 will be leaked.
But if you want to be sure, just wait another two weeks, cause it's likely that if they will release an official upgrade, they will announce it at the same time Microsoft annouces WM7.
My advice is: Wait for two weeks, and if you like WM7 and there will be an official upgrade, then buy the HD2.
If you don't like what Microsoft shows at MWC, then you can still think about what device to buy. Right now, wondering about what to buy is just a waste of time, because a lot will change in the next few weeks.
The wait will kill me
Anymore opinions?

Android also seem's to work fine under the Sense skin, but the display and an old OS version (android 1.6) doesn't convince me to spend my money as I know I'll always be thinking on something more "up to date".

whats the point in waiting ? every few monats a new really cool phone come out. and you can not compare these phones, there is one windows mobile phone,3 android phones and a osx phone.
Um, what about the Diamond 3/Obsession, or whatever it will be called???
I'm itching to buy an HD2, I even went and had another play with one today : ) However, there are two things stopping me buying it. One is size, the other is that the lack of an AMOLED display.
At the end of last year I bought an Acer S200 with Snapdragon chip. It was awesome because it was so fast : ) The downside was the lack of people developing stuff for it here on XDA, so when the headphone jack failed after two weeks, I sent it back. The next phone I tried was an Omnia II, which was dog slow compared to the Acer, but, of course, it was a little bit smaller than the Acer and it had a beautiful AMOLED screen...
So, I reckon, if you're unsure of the size, wait until the MWC in a couple of weeks and see what is announced. If HTC release a WinMo device that is the size of the Bravo or smaller, but still has a 3.7" sreen and Snapdragon chip, I'm buying it ; )
With regard to WinMo 7, I have one big worry. What if the specs that have been leaked are a minumum standard??? What if our Snapdragon devices struggle to run it like earlier Qualcomm chipsets struggle with 6.5?? What if you actually need the faster Snapdragon, or even dual core Snapdragon chipset to run it well? Just a thought : )
If you want a new phone now, buy the HD2 as it is by far the best one out there. If you can wait, there is always something better coming in the future.
But then, if "something better" is finally out, there will probably be another something better if you can wait another while...

What he said. To me from what I've tried android is a big "meh", so it's out. iPhone is even more out for lack of multitasking, closed environment, etc. So that leaves only the HD2. And, good news, I've loved it when trying it. So my order will go out next week
You cannot chase technology and win my friend, whatever you buy now will be old in 4 months time. R&D is always way ahead. Whatever you buy, buy it for your needs and learn to be satisfied, remembering that they will ALWAYS be something new just around the corner, and if you don't adjust your thinking you will always be unhappy as soon as the next thing comes out.
