activesync doesnt work..but charging.. IM BEGGING FOR HELP - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi, my activesync doesn't work, but it is charging...
i tried other USBs and i tried different PCs and same thing happens..
tried to take off the advanced network functionality...
Does anyone have a solution to that? please please help me im begging
Thanks alot in advanced!

anyone???? pleasee??????

go to active sync on the Hermes and delete the old profile. This may work...
Cheers...

tried.. doesnt work.. plus it didnt even work the past couple of roms that i had... i think since i upgraded it from wm6 to wm6.1 i started getting this issue..
any solution????

if trying to connect it to another computer dont work
i would suspect a faulty connector

so how is it possible that its charging??

To charge, all it needs is for the pins carrying voltage to get a connection. (All USB has a 5v current at 500mA, it just uses that to charge).
It could be that one of the data pins used by USB solely for transferring data are damaged or broken (or the connector is broken internally). This is almost impossible to diagnose without the correct tools, so I'm guessing here.
However, my Hermes' USB port has started to 'act up' - it still charges fine, but you have to have the USB cable at juuuust the right angle and you can't move it or touch it at all, otherwise the USB connection disconnects. I suspect either oxidisation on the terminals or a dodgy USB connector - but as long as it charges alright, I can live with that!

you could try cleaning the contacts with a cotton bud and some isopropyl alcohol (surgical spirits - NOT METHO). If there is any buildup on your contacts this will fix it.
Cheers....

Mine has done this many times before, the bloody pc rejects the usb device as unknown. [email protected] frustrating, I go in and delete all stored data about the phone and same on the PC in Active sync, some times works. Try different cables, sounds weird but some work well some are no good, dunn'o why, just does. I would perform a Hard Reset, I have done this once and it fixed it, blows away all your stuff (which should be on your 2Gb min mem card anyway). Good luck, sounds like a Hard Reset is where your headed.

is it possible that its not working since i switched to WM6.1? cuz i dont usually charge my phone through the pc and i just relized it a month ago... so if i switch back to wm6 do you think it would work??

Try this
Try and going to ur Start Menu, and then into Settings,go into the last tab "Connections", now go into the little icon titled USB to PC,and make sure the little box is UNCHECKED...well now that should do the trick

if you would read the first post... where i actually asked the question u would see that i tried that already
but tnx for trying

my 8525 does this from time to time as well, while I've never traced down the exact problem, a soft-reset almost always fixes it (I'm not saying you haven't soft-reset, it's just how I fix mine).
It likely has something to do with memory, as it usually happens after I've been using a lot of features (windows live search, outlook, etc.) and haven't reset in several days.
good luck....it is frustrating!

u did not described what it actualy does if you connect it to the pc and what rom are u using
the common problems with wm6.1
uncheck the advanced usb disconnect from pc restart pc
go to active sync on ppc seting - connection uncheck box (allways) check box open `usb close `usb ok reconnect ppc
the wording might be different cause im using right now diff. language

ARRGH! - Constant Probs with ActiveSync

I love my everything about my MDA - However, MS ActiveSync is absolutely terrible to work with and with a mind of its own.
When I first start my PC, ActiveSync works flawlessly. I am able to update and sync my contacts and install programs with no hassle.
However, as the day goes on, it becomes increasingly moody. When I plug in the MDA, there is no indication of it connecting. No swirly green circle etc.. Control Panel does not even indicate that something is connected.
When I plug into the next USB port, there is a "Unknown Device" error. ActiveSync again doesn't activate. I've restarted the comp as well as soft-resetting the MDA but to no avail. I was advised to uninstall all the USB drivers but still no result.
Whats strange though is that the very next day, it works all fine again in the morning and the daily dismal continues! :x
Anybody else facing these problems? I've got ActiveSync 3.8 but also had the same problems with previous AS's. In fact, I've also tried different computers but to no avail!
Do you guys happen to know of an alternative? This spawn of Microsoft is driving me crazy!!
have you tried a differnt usb cable? and does your case effect how far the plug goes when you connect your Magician (assuming your using a case)? just seems like it might not be connecting properly all the time. I had issues similar to yours when i purchased a new sync cable, it had slightly shorter data pins where it connected to my Jam which were not contacting. so it would power up and windows would detect but it would give the same errors.
SpeedN
thanks for the reply mate.
Its strange as I had another miniUSB cable but the problem was still there last time I tried. Very strange - I just hope MS could iron out these problems - I've heard that they are trying to use AS to contest with BlackBerry.
hmmm...it looks like there may be a possible solution to all this. I've researched a bit and apparently ActiveSync only works at the USB port originally used to connect the phone hence why it wasn't recognized by the other port.
But my one wasn't working with either port anyway!
Another suggestion was to hard reset the Pocket PC as this is apparently a common problem. And guess what? it worked!
This suggest there being a problem with the actual PocketPC settings itself - more specifically the ActiveSync settings. As doing a Hard-Reset is quite an inconvenient thing to do, is there anyway to delete/reset the ActiveSync settings without hard resetting?
Thanks again and I hope this is of help to anyone
i had a problem with activesync as well. i was traveling so in that time i had synched my jam with maybe 4 different pc's with activesync, all on guest partnership except my laptop. so when got back it had all these problems with my desktop. for example when i explored my device through activesync and tried to copy something to the computer it would show the copy dialog box but then nothing would be on my pc. i just reformatted my har drive for other reasons and now it works fine.. so i guess reformatting and reinstalling xp works. i did a hard reset on my jam and that didnt do anything.
From time to time Activesync will lock itself up. So go to task manager and shut it down - it's 2 apps, something like wcecomm.exe and something else; there's a number of apps freeware that will do this for you- i'm at work so can't help you more with the filename.
Then restart activesync and reconnect as normal.
Sometimes it does bugger up, but I've only had to reinstall windows once with an SPV.

Activesync Help!!! Can't figure this out

Alright so I've done quite a bit of searching but I can't figure this out and its really frustrating me. I have mfrazz's Windows Mobile 6 release 3 installed.
Rom version: 10.1.0.811 WWE
Rom Date: 8/11/06
Radio Version: 02.25.11
Protocol Version 4.1.13.12
My problem is that activesync will not recognize my MDA no matter what I do. I've hard reset my phone, installed and uninstalled activesync 4.5 a bunch of times. Done this on two different computers, but when I plug the mda in, nothing happens at all. I plug my roomate's MDA in (running a different rom) and it instantly recognizes the phone and begins to sync. I really want to try different roms out, but without an activesync connection I can't. Any ideas guys?
Thanks...
ps. Let me know if this should be in the WM6 forum, I wasn't sure.
Well, this problem has been discussed hundreds of time in the forum, just read through the forum,I'm sure you'll find answer to your problem easily, there was no need to start a new thread,or just hit the 'Search' tab at the top of this very page and enter 'Activesync Problems'.
Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback-
It seems like I've read every single thread related to this problem, but in almost all of those their phone is at least recognized by activesync. With mine, even after disabling all firewalls and doing all the suggestions in the other threads, I just can't get activesync to even recognize my phone
If you still can't sync at someone else's computer, you probably have a bad USB cable, or worse, a bad connector. Try a different cable (any USB to micro should work, they aren't specially wired or anything). If that's no help, try blowing out the connector jack on the phone (use a magnifying glass or ? to look for debris, too). If that's no help, you may be screwed. You can try these guys, but it'll be expensive (like, replace my phone expensive): http://www.drcellphone.com/index.php
Are you at least getting a charge light (solid amber) when you plug in?
Yea, it charges just fine and I get the solid amber light and everything. I use the same cable to sync my roomates' mda, so that isn't the issue. I'm really stumped. Im almost positive its something with the specific rom I have on my phone..
I've been forcing it into bootloader mode to try to flash any other rom onto it (I figure if i can just get ANY rom on it... official tmobile, or a cooked rom, etc. then the sync problem should go away) but I'm having troubles there too.
You're not trying to do this with a Vista computer, are you? There are known problems syncing with Vista-based PCs.
If you use Mozilla Thunderbird at all, you can try using FinchSync, just to see if the hardware is functioning properly. This is theoretical, though. I haven't tried this myself, so I can't offer much on FinchSync.
Nope, I first tried it with 3 different XP computers and then for the hell of it tried it with Vista. No go with either one. I've pretty much convinced myself that it is the rom I have on my phone (mfrazz's Windows Mobile 6 release 4) because I never used to have any problems whatsoever
mmj12345
OK, let's take stock of things. I'm assuming that you are using XP.
Check in activesync :
File -> Connection Settings
Make sure "Allow USB connections" is checked.
'Uncheck' the 'advanced network functionality' in the phone.
Start -> Settings -> Connections tab -> USB to PC
If that still doesn't work, I'd try the uninstall, reboot, reinstall activesync and see if that helps any.
I'd also be suspecting the usb cable/ mini usb port of the phone. Recharging a device and getting a data connection are two different things. I have a k-jam that would charge via the USB cable, but would not sync, XP kept complaining about an unknown device. Turned out it was a broken connector in the mini usb port of the phone. It maybe that usb cable connector is not making proper connection with the connector of mini usb port of the phone, try to 'wriggle' the usb cable plug a little and check if it tries to make a connection, while connecting to the phone, sometimes it helps.
Cheers!
I've made sure everything you suggested is correct. I didn't know that charging and data connection are two different things. I figure that if it charges, it should sync. The USB port on my MDA is really loose, and I can only get a charge when I plug in the charger and "push" the plug to the right an hold it there (usually by twisting the cord around the phone in a way that keeps the pressure on the USB socket). So now that you mention that, I'm just guessing that it charges but its so loose that I probably won't ever get it to sync again.
Hmm..
Is there any way at all to flash without an activesync connection? I tried flashing a bunch of roms by forcing the phone into bootloader and then running the RUU, but it always fails because it says I don't have an activesync connection...
Nopes !
You got to have connection with phone through usb cable.Get the mini usb port of the phone repaired or replaced, only then it can establish connection and flash a rom.
Cheers!
Alright, thanks a lot for all of your help! Looks like maybe I'll take the phone apart and see if I can actually see any disconnection on the main board, etc. Not sure if I'll try to make a repair attempt myself because I've read that the solder contact points are pretty small

Active Sync (nothing works last shot)

Hey guys, first post and honestly I was trying to avoid this post. Anyways here is my problem. Active Sync will not work. I get the Unrecognized USB Device Error. I have tried every suggestion I can find. Uninstalling Active sync and reinstalling, soft reseting, switching USB ports, trying USB 2.0 port, trying on every USB port (6), using cradle, not using cradle, cold booting my PC, booting PC, and I have uninstalled the unknown USB device, powered off my Mogul and restarted. My IT (yes he is an actual IT guy) guy at work even got to working on it after I explained the problem to him. He even went through BIOS on my work PC to try and figure it out to no avail.
Has anyone had a problem like this....and if it is on my phone I guess I would need to reinstall a rom using my flash card. I would prefer this to be the last option as I am not too savvy at loading ROM's (have not felt the need to load one yet). I also am running nueLED , so I'm wondering if that may be interferring. I tried uninstalling it but it wouldn't uninstall. One more thing, active sync was working perfectly for a week, then it just stopped working.
You need to install drivers on your PC...
Usually they come on a CD with the phone, but you can do a search on google and find some.
Also try your carrier's website
I've tried installing the drivers from the CD, but that doesn't work. I'll try googling again but when I searched last week I could find nothing.
OK I found some drivers...but when I choose to install them from the device manager it says "the specified location does not recognize your device".
Alright looks like I just will not get Active Sync or my PC to recognize my device. How does anyone have some tips on installing a ROM on a storage card.
ive had that problem before. i suggest trying it on another computer or just formatting the one you currently use.

To solve the problem:
Go to Settings.
click Tab [Connections]
USB to PC <---
un check the Enable advanced network functionality
Then re connect your USB cable and it should sync with your pc.
Unfortunately that was one of the first things I did. It still does not work. Evidently someone else on this forum is having the same problem.
Maybe this will work cuz it did 4 me
First do a hardreset. When everything is done on your phone, do what Taninpv told you and then do a softreset. Then let your phone stay sit for an hour. Dont play wit it. Then go run active sync on your phone and wait 5min. After that, connect your phone to your computer and let it stay there for an hour or untill u see something running. When you see something saying like RNDS is beeing install let it install and dont touch your phone. After a while activesync should pick up your phone and follow the directions and it should work from there. Also, everytime u aregoing to disconnect your phone from the computer, close active sync on your phone first, dont disconnect your phone when activesync is running on your phone or it will have problems again trying to connect. I have tried this 3 times already. I was not connecting to activesync untill I got this. I tried everything people told me like downloading actesync of microsoft, uninstalling it, connecting to another usb port and nothing. This is the only way it works 4 me. Good luck. If it doesnt work, PM me and ill help u.
Thanks Erick I am trying now...
as of the past few weeks i have been getting the same issue, very strange. When i 1st got the phone i was able to use the USB cable no proplem sync transfered my files good 2 go. Since i modded my phone with silly skins i-phone screensaver, HTC homeplugin and the phone doesnt want to be recognized via USB PC connection, i dont wanna reset my phone again to Factory stock and reinstall it up again.
yo
try what I posted yesterday.....Did it work 4 u burgertime???I hope it did. Oh yeah, my cousin also had a problem but his proble was that the wired mini usb on the mogul(under the storge card) one of the gold plugs in there was bent and he just fixed that and it worked. The wired thing that it would charge.
Yea I tried it over the weekend and it did not work. Looking at my mini USB port I can see that one of the gold prongs does look like it is bent....I have no clue how to bend it back though.
Wow it was just the USB prong....incredible. Now I'm the laughing stock of the office. Thanks for the tip Erik!

Worked like a charm! Long live the search function
So seems i have run into this problem now. Doesnt sync with my XP or vista computer. Tried unchecking the usb connection advanced functionality option. just tries to install (XP does but says it wont work, vista was just usless). At one point the vista actually connected but as a guest. The prongs are all good too, nothing looks bent. Ill try another cord maybe. eh what a pain. ill try a hard reset tomorrow
Ive tried all these and no joy. Can someone tell me how many gold conector "wires" there should be? Maybe one is missing?
mine are like this > l lll < Should there be five with one in that space?
Thanks in advance...
Seriously...

Serious problem.... NO ACTIVESYNC

I just tried to plug my phone in today, and activesync does not detect my phone when I plug it in.... Activesync usually works great for me.
So far I have tried:
1. soft reset phone
2. attach wife's phone - still no sync (this leads me to believe it is a problem on the PC - not the phone)
3. remove and re-install activesync on the pc
4. restart the PC
The USB connection is definitely being made - as when I plug the phone into the computer it starts charging the battery..... but no activesync session is initiated, so I can't modify any files on my phone....
any other ideas?
Hmm that is bad... Well what do you use activesync for? Transferring files or for internet sharing?
All I can think of is maybe a virus? Run avast! virus cleaner. It's the stand alone virus cleaner not the actual anti-virus program. It won't install anything on your pc and it's actually one of the best. Just go to Avast.com.
If you use activesync for internet sharing you actually don't need it . I don't use it for internet sharing. You just need the drivers. I use wm5torage to put stuff of my memory card.
Hope something I wrote helped.
Uncheck start>settings>connections>usb to pc.
never mind........ I guess my data cable just went retarded.
I bought a new USB>MiniUSB cable today and activesync loads right up.
strange, since the original cable does not look like it is damaged at all, and can still charge the phone.
Oh well - all's well that ends well. lol.

i bit late to the party,me ,but this is a comon problem in certain devices,so far i changed 4 cables with my hermes.
oh well. good to know anyway.
I work as a manager at a retail store, and found a couple of PSP data cables (the exact same cable that HTC phones use, surprisingly) that were in the back room which clearanced to 10 cents.... I bought them out - so I have a TON of backup cables in case I ever need them. LOL
the problem is not the usb cable per say but the usb hub in the device.
the new htc hub since the Hermes have a low threshold for wear, the pins that is, so when your usb cable gets used for awhile it wears out a bit also, this gets to a certain stage the the pins no longer touch each other therefore this problem occurs .
i have noticed that my wife 3 year old wizard has a standard usb plug and we never had any problem with any cables, even using the cables that do not work in the hemes that started showing that problem after 6 months of usage.
yeah - well maybe I'll be lucky and the cables I bought (from the PSP) don't have this wear and tear problem

HD2 won't do active sync

2 days ago I lost my active sync it just doesn't work, I connect my device to my pc and i doesn't even light the screen though it does charge :S... I've tried everything possible: Hard reset, Task29, flashed a few rooms (throught bootscreen and SD card) tried in a different PC but nothing seem to work. My X1 does do active sync in the same PC. I don't know what else to do... has anyone got a clue of what to do?... Thanks.
Maybe stupid but, have you tried other USB ports?

Try removing and reinstalling activesync and make sure you do a reboot inbetween. I had this problem once and a hard reset fixed it but that was only because the problem i had was phone side (server side) and not with the pc (client side)
As I said I tried in another PC and it didn't work either, but my Xperia X1 does work so the usb port is all right... Forgot to mention that on NRGZ roms sense looks quite messy now even on the roms I know are workin properly, and everytime I reebot the mob the navipanel pops out, now I change to another ROM and the sense seems ok but the home button pops out the navipanel. Its so strange :S:S!

In that case i can't help with the activesync issue but the navipanel issue is solved by disabling the auto detection. It is possible that the two are linked but i had the navipanel problem with the most recent energy rom and implemented the fix and all is well

Have you disable the "Enable faster data synchronization" thing?
Mine only syncs that way... It stopped syncing with faster sync some time ago...

Hi, I have had same problem... spent around 2 days on Google and found a likely cause for that... Is there any chance that you phone got wet or short circuit a mini USB port... Anyways, have a look this forum and my post at the end...

Hope it helps
when my ActiveSync stops working, the thing that usually help is "reinitiating" the connection - you could try step described here

Thanks for trying to help, this page is very helpful when device is recognized by PC, but has ActiveSync profile mismatch. The first thing that I did is I've disabled fast sync on HD2, then I've deleted all profiles and their traces on PC and HD2 as well. Usually it helps when you plug in the phone, computer acknowledges it, but pop in warning sign that USB device is not recognized or recognizes it but fails to initiate ActiveSync. In my case there was no reaction (on multiple computers) - like nothing is plugged in... Will see what repairer says... I'll post an update as soon as I'll hear from them.

Yeah I have the same problem any PC just doesn't recognize the usb connection.
The link above covers what I'd try next in a round and about way.
Can you connect to your PC by cable in disk drive mode (>>Settings>>Other>>USB to PC)? Can you connect ActiveSync via BlueTooth? Can you synchronize with gMail using the Exchange settings for the service? The above tests should give a better idea as to where the problem is; whether with ActiveSync or the USB connection.
There's a great site covering ActiveSync problems. It's out of date but still relevant. Search for ActiveSync Troubleshooter by Chris de Herra.
I had problems with active sync a while ago.
The HD2 would charge but was not recognised by active sync.
If you put the phone into bootloader it says 'serial' at the bottom of the screen
When you connect it to your pc via usb, this should change to 'usb'
Mine didn't.....and a bit of reading around showed that this means the usb socket is faulty.
I sent mine back to HTC and they replaced the motherboard and I've had no problem since.

People, come a little help, no way can I synchronize the phone with Windows, I have Windows 7, and installed Windows Mobile Device Center, but they can not sync to make, that would later be some ROM and Radio ROM I put, these are unic few days. I went to microsoft and my phone and there I upload everything and write synchronization is successful, but when Connecting your phone and choose sync anything, open the Mobile Device Center and not conected! Does anyone know the easiest way to sync? I would be eternally grateful to him!
I have another problem, the computer I see the SD card, a phone? I do not know what the problem was that I somehow know to help me, not I need to do factory reset because I have 450 phone numbers, and I can not seem to sync them! Means when I go to Start / Settings / sd card & phone storage, no write down my sd card? And all the programs that are on the card normally do not work! I ask for help!
Thanks in advance!
Got the same problem with Windows 7. Should have stayed with good old XP. Is there no way to get this so called driver?
Have you tried a different USB / microUSB cable?
I had one with a single broken wire that wouldn't charge but would pass data. Maybe you have a broken data wire.
my HD2 came back from repair
I've got my HD2 back from repair centre... and it works fine... most bizar part is paper say that nothing was done...
