Are the boards exactly the same in all devices? I have an HTC branded TyTN that's gotten pretty dinged up. After a good search on the net, I found a replacement shell but it's for the Cingular 8525. The front buttons are the same buttons, but in different configurations. Can I swap my internals from the TyTN into the 8525 case?
anyone got any input?
Internal boards should be the same BUT as you said button config will be different. You may need to do some "surgery". I'd keep looking for a case that fits properly...
thanks Mag. i guess i'll keep looking.

Just a simple question:
Are both phones the same? Do they use the same stylus pen? Do they use the exact same motherboard, screen, connectors and etc? The only difference is the case and keyboard shape?
Thanks in advance!
Both devices are HTC WIZARD 200. They have a different housing face plate and keypad. Therefore also the shape of the stylus might vary - I am not sure! I am using the MDA version which looks better on the front in my opinion. Allthrough I think the keyboard looks better on the 8125 ...
Anything else is the same in the devices.
A friend of mine is sending me a dead MDA and I'd like to know if I buy a Cingular 8125 with a broken screen, will I be able to use the motherboard from the MDA or the screen from the 8125 to get a fully functional unit?

I wouldn't buy a 8125 with a broken screen in first place! Research this forum for the SERVICE MANUAL of the HTC WIZARD! After seeing how to take it appart you might be able to imagine that too much can go wrong! The screen and the keyboard are the last things you can access! You open the device on the back and have to work all way down piece by piece until there ...
I saw broken screen WIZARDs on eBay for $150.00 - compared to that you can find working dev ices for $200.00 w/o contract.
Yeah I saw the service manual and got scared too, but I can give it a try I think, if I find a broken device for less than $150
First, I would like to say ello!!!
Anyway ^.^ I recently aquired a Cingular branded HTC 8125, and was wondering if anyone had a good disassembly guide(or even a bad one really) for it. The one I got has a few.... bugs. Some of which I should be able to fix... Some of which... Well ^.^'
Actually isnt the first PDA type device I've opened up... I even have the nessary tools within reach atm ^.^'' Just always nicer to know where the delicate ribon cables, or randomly held together by plastic tabs/glue spots are when going into something like this...
Anyway. Oi!
check out the service manual available from the wiki it gots the disassembaly guide its preety straight forward nothing hard to it just make sure u dont lose the screws and dont break the tabs.
Thanks, didn't notice it there.
Just a note that should probably go up somewhere, the Cingular 8125 has a slight variance to its disassembly when you get to removing the main PCB, it has a sqrew holding it down near the middle of the board that the version of the wizard that document was for lacks.
Other than that very educational. And got rid of the horrible screen corruption when the face plate buttons are pressed. Completely. ^.^' Stupid loose ribbon cables.
Hello all
I require some input from some of the gurus of xda-devs and its a question im guessing a lot people would like to know the answer to
Can we swap spare parts from say a Cingular 8525 to a MDA Vario II? (Herm200 --> Herm300)
what i mean to say is, lets say we could only find a front keypad for a cingular 8525, would it fit into the vario II?of course the orientation of keys would be correct for the cingular and not for the vario so you'd need a new front keypad aswell, but on the 'technical' level, is this possible?
many thanks
Don't quote me on this BUT I believe I read a post from Mike Channon saying that internally ALL the Hermes variants were the same. Be best to search through his threads, website or ask the maestro himself...
Cheers...
Yes that's probably about 99% true, BUT I notice the d/pad layout on some variants is quite different and so the underlying board may well be different - have not had time to fully check this.
Mike
Thanks for clearing that up Mike, as I said I wasn't totally sure...
Cheers...
many thanks
so mike, my theoretical scenario, would it work?
if i was to get a cingular 8525 d-pad board and a 8525 keypad to go over it, technically it ought to work right?

I tried to check that out and did not find much info. BUT I see no reason for it not to work circuit wise. You might need to remap keys.
Have you checked that the 8525 keypad will fit the housing you have?
Mike
id happily modify the housing as a temporary thing, but i reckon i'll give it a shot and report back. i have a hunch it will fix the white screen issue.
does anyone know of anyone who has a brick they'd like to sell?!
Ebay is good, bought a couple of dud jasjams off there to fix mine and wouldn't you know it, one actually worked except for the camera & battery. Ended up cannobilizing MY Jasjam to fix up the "broken" one I purchased for parts....
Cheers...
Hi all, my Hermes/JasJam LCD screen and front panel stopped working a while back with the whiting out issue, funny artifacts and non working buttons. I have pulled it apart quite a few times to make temporary solutions but none have lasted enough.
So now I'm looking to buy a used Hermes and jack the screen part off it and place it on mine. Now I know how to do this but what came to my mind was:
Buy the newer version of the Hermes and place it's front part on my old jasjam which would be like a mixed/modded Hermes.
So I saw the O2 Zinc and the TyTN II and i really like the front panels better than the original hermes ones. So, before I buy one of them, does someone know if the ribbon cable is the same as the original one that connects to the phone's mainboard?
Any help much appreciated!
Well, not sure exactly what happened, but somehow the LCD screen of my phone cracked today and stopped working. It couldn't have been from an impact, as the front glass is still intact, the digitizer still works, and I don't remember any major impacts the phone had in the hour it was in my pocket before I noticed it wasn't working.
In any case, I just had a few questions:
1) Are all the screens for the GSM/CDMA versions of the Touch the same? I've found some listings on ebay for Dopod S1, XV6900, P3450, and other screens. Will any of these work?
2) If it's an extra $2 for an ebay auction with a digitizer and a screen, should I just buy that instead for the backup digitizer?
3) Does anyone have a spare Touch lying around with a working screen, or even just the screen itself. I'd rather not wait 3 weeks for it to arrive from China.
4) Is there any way to get the ESN off the phone using ADB or anything so I could clone it onto a spare phone I have in the meantime?
Thanks!

1. There are various models of the Vogue and Elf. The drivers are different between some of them and wouldn't work, so you have to make sure that you are getting the correct one.
2. Might as well
3. I do, but referring back to Q1, what version of the Vogue do you have (Bell, Verizon, Sprint, etc)? The one that I have is a Verizon Vogue with a broken power button. The thing works and needs the power button to be soldered back to the main board and a new case since the power button (the plastic part on the body) is broken. If you can get me $10 + shipping I will gladly let it go.
4. Yes there is, but discussion of this topic is not allowed on XDA as it is an illegal practice in most countries.
Hope this helps.

It's a Bell unit. In my huge amount of reading this morning I read something about how the android kernel's autodetect the screen in use and use the correct driver? If your unit would work I'd def want it!
Thanks for your help!
