Micro SD card adapter & Quake question

HI I have the HTC x7500 variant, and I have 4 2gb micro sd cards, so I bought a micro to mini sd card adapter which I can confirm work with media card readers and see the media files on the micro disks.
But the HTC doesn't see them ? is this because they are going through an adapter, the device only shows the internal mini disk drive.
Is there a reason for this ? is there a fix for it or do i have to buy a new load of mini disks.
Also has anyone else managed to play doom or quake in landscape properly on this device, if so which version and any links, is there a way yet of sorting out an escape key for the keyboard so it can be used in quake.
Many thanks
Paul

Micro-SD adapter?

Hi,
I am by no means tech savvy with my BA. Overtime, I have managed to upgrade mine from 2003 to wm6. And each time I did it, i held my breathe....lol
Since my searching the forums, I only see support for the 4 gig non sdhc cards...I have a 4 gig non sdhc capacity card now and it works fine.....and yes, I see all the complaints about posting on the sdhc compliant cards. I am aware the driver for the sd reader, has to be custom written specifically for the BA, since the BA was not designed to upgraded to wm6 in the first place. Is the 5.2.1933 compatible with sdhc protocol itself? I am seeing that some of the newer htc phones may nor may not be sdhc compatible as well.
Well, has anyone tried a Sd-micro Sd adapter, like this one, and just skip SD and move to microSD. There is 6 gig card in the below link.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?page=2&Nav=|c:1579|&Sort=4&Recs=10
There is already a 8 gig coming, found one for 135.00 and now, I stumbled across a 12 announced like 8 days ago at engadget.
Anyone tried any of this, the microSD adapter? This is an external bypass i would think, but with these cooked roms, I never know what works and what doesn't. I can't get my phone to turn off using the com manager, (i am not complaining, I just know there are still issues with WM6 not being bug free)
Would you have a speed issue? In other words, yes, i know there is a hack, to get music to not skip, that has to do with the bit rate transfer. That is the bug fix for that issue. Would you get more problems like this adapter, due to the driver and/or incompatibilty of transfer rates?
edit: I am using 5.2.1933 build
Answer is simple: If the MicroSD card is a normal SD, it will work. If it's SDHC, it won't. MicroSD adapter is just a size converter: there is no electronics inside. SD card, miniSD and microSD are identical from protocol point of view. SD and SDHC is identical. They have just different sizes.
Thanks for the reply.
i think all the new big gig cards are gonna be sdhc or sd 2.0 compliant. I am still struggling with all these things, sd 1 sd 1.1 sd 2.0, micro, mini etc. It is so confusing.
Guess its time for a touch cruise. It has gps
Thanks.
There are 8gb standard sd cards on ebay. Anyone used any one of those? I bought one but found it was a 4gb hacked to display 8gb and had read and write errors and subsequently was useless. Are there any genuine standard non-sdhc 8 gb cards out there?
It is not technically possible to do SD non-HC card over 4GB. Normal SD ends on 1GB, with some tricks you gen achieve up to 4GB with limited compatibility. But there is no way to have non-HC cards bigger than 4GB.

Unable to read SD card in PC - works in X1

I have Garmin Mobile XT residing on my 16GB memory card, but after the firmware upgrade to R3A it no longer wanted to display any maps. Said there were none. I tried some tricks but finally gave up and wanted to reinstall it. Due to the size of the maps (files 1.5GB or so) I decided to take the memory card out of the phone, place it in a SD card adapter and put it in my PC which has a SD card reader. However, Windows XP now suddenly doesn't recognize my memory card and suggests I format it. This may be a solution, but it seems something "simple to fix" must have happened here. It used to work fine in XP. I know SD cards can behave strange sometimes and that there are recovery programs for various cameras with SD cards. Any ideas?
I have this problem with Windows Vista whenever I use my microSD adapter. What I tend to do is try to update the driver for the "Unknown UBS Adapter". It normally comes back after a search saying that I have the up to date one, then I take out the USB adapter, put it back in, and it works.
Maybe a similar method might work for you.
It's a SDHC card. Not compatible with normal SD Slot.
did you maybe have the old sd card set to be encrypted or something like that - not sure though

Yes, it's a SDHC card and it is fully compatible with a normal SD slot (ofcourse you need an adapter inbetween) and it used to work like a charm in Windows XP; i.e. I could put the SDHC card from the X1 in the adapter and put the adapter in the computer and be able to access the content on the SDHC card just like a normal disk. Very much faster for transferring large data, for instance Garmin maps, than using the USB cable.

No encryption used. And the write protect thing on the adapter is set to off. After some more poking around I found that Windows XP reports the file format on th SDHC card as RAW and is not even able to format the card. I used a third party app that I installed on the X1 to format the card, which works fine. (Funny that there is no built in function for this in Windows Mobile). With the formatted SDHC card I can now work with it like before in Windows XP. Ofcourse, all data on it were lost.
Does anyone here know what can cause the formatting of the SDHC card to change into something else (RAW) than it was first formatted to (FAT32)? Something must have messed up the file allocation tables? Although the card worked in the X1, Windows Mobile reported that there were about 3MB space available on it while in reality there were more than 6GB available on it.
Puzzled. But then again this is Windows...
Everything is Windows fault
Do you have an SDHC Vista driver for your card reader?
Did you somehow trash the card (it's possible)?
Just because you have an adapter doesn't make SDHC compatible with SD. The reader must also be capable of SDHC as well as drivers.
You can always put the X1 into card reader mode.

Yes, ofcourse it is... =)) No, I do not have a SDHC Vista driver since I run Windows XP. I don't know if I trashed the card somehow, if I did it certainly wasn't intentional and it would certainly mean that the card has serious quality issues (it's a SanDisk card).
I did find out however, that formatting the card in Windows Mobile (with a 3rd party app) only makes it possible to read the card in Windows XP. Unless you format it again in Windows XP the same problem will occur again (i.e. format turns to RAW and makes it impossible to read in Windows XP again).

HTC HD2 memory card??

just ordered my HD2 from Vodafone uk
and was going to put my Sandisk 8Gb Ultra Class 6 card from my HD1 into it.
but just found that my card is very slow.
tried my card in another HTC HD and takes ages to play music
but his card works great with no problem
so what is the best card to use???
which class?
and on the htc web site it says micro sd 2.0 what's that???
thx all
I think a Class 6 Card on the HD2 should be fast enough for it...
A card with 'Class 2' spec is similar to a card with a 'SD 2.0' spec
Is your card an original SanDisk card? Try backing up your files, then
reformat the card and see how it goes.
On my HD, a Class 2, and a Class 6 card (both Sandisk) works fine, so it should
be the same for your HD2 (tried a friend's while waiting for mine).

Format the card on the phone on which you intend to use it, it's best not to use a PC for this.

If the card specs are as above, the real questions to ask is what player are you using? and what size is the music library. Because if the first answer is Coreplayer, and the second is over 6Gb; then i would suggest you check the settings and disable the 'enable Library' settings
just got my 8gb transcend class 6 card and formatted it with my phone and put my data back on it. is there a benchmark tool to test it's speed?
and somehow rsshub didn't show my channels after I changed the card, I copied the data from the old card but rsshub seems to be back to factory settings, why?
I've got a 16GB Class 2 MicroSD here.
If I have that thing full of music is it going to **** up the HD2s music player?
Don't have my phone yet so cant test it.
just tested my Transcend 8GB microSDHC Class 6 card with SKTools Lite and it says 2MB/s write and 8MB/s read. that's kind of slow isn't it?
The SD association state "the minimum data transfer speeds for both SD/SDHC memory cards and SD/SDHC host products. This enhancement is easily recognized by three levels of Speed Class, class 2, 4 and 6. Speed Class 2 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 2 mega bytes per second (MB/s), Speed Class 4 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 4 MB/s and Speed Class 6 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 6 MB/s." as to whether a read spead of 8MB/s equates to a transfer speed or not I'll let you find out yourself..
Just wait for SanDisk to release their 32GB microSD.
I will stay on my 8GB of my Kaiser till than...
anyone know when sandisk will release the 32GB ?

yeah but now is DECEMBER and the card not released yet !
I am using a Sandisk 16GB Class 2 : Works perfectly well
Also using a Generic (play.com) class 2 16GB and it works a treat. I watch xvid encoded TV shows and movies from it using Coreplayer and it works great.

I have a Sandisk 16GB Class 2 MicroSD card in my HTC HD2. Tried 350 songs stored on my memory card, and while in the Music Tab waiting for the library to be updated, HTC Sense/TouchFlo restarts itself over and over again. I don't think the Music Player in HTC Sense is that great.
I'm using Conduits Pocket Player for music and it works great. Just disable the Music Tab and HTC Sense should not crash if you accidently select that tab.
Using a 1.43 ROM by the way.
every time I connect my hd2 to my computer and after disconnecting it I can't access any of my music via the music player. it just does nothing, the library is empty and when I switch to landscape mode it says "no music found".
the only way to get it working is to reset.but that can't be it, what's wrong here?
I get the same - if I connect via USB as a mass storage device and then disconnect, I can't access my music library any more. Sometimes even a soft reset doesn't bring it back. Its really annoying! Best to use activesync I suppose but I use Linux quite a bit and it isn't an option.
No Memory Card access after a sync
I have the same problem - but I use Active Sync. I have only just figured out that the sync with my PC has been causing the problem.
Here is what has been happening.
If I DON'T sync with my PC - I can go for weeks with no resets and full access to all data and apps on my Micro SD.
As soon as I sync (via Active Sync - under XP) - the next time I want to run an app from my Micro SD - the HTC tells me it can't find it. My workaround has been to pull the cover off and eject then re-insert the SD (solves it 100% of the time) ... but I would love to know what is required to prevent this problem.
To test the above - I have just gone two weeks without the problem occurring even once (I was away and did not use active sync at all ... although I did use a laptop daily with the HTC connected ... but only as an internet sharing device NOT in any kind of sync mode). Now that I am back home - the first sync has resulted in the same of problem re-occurring.
Has anyone found the cause of this??
Cheers,
Scott
Happy New Year
I'm new to the site after just upgrading to the HTC HD2. Great site for a source of info.
I had a similar problem after transferring the files to the phone. Sometimes the files would show after transfer sometimes not. When I updated libary in the media player I was able to view all the files. I hope this helps, if you haven't tried already.
I'm also waiting for the 32GB card, but unable to find any info regarding the release date. Any news?

Samsung ver 1.3 micro sd questions

Hey guys, I got my phone and the sd card about 4 months after the WP7 launch. It went smoothly and I enjoy WP OS. My Question/problem is I have multiple card readers and adapters but windows 7 both on my laptop and desktop won't read the card. The card formats into the OS on the phone and works fine but when I get into computer management it just shows H:/ no media. I have tried the windows fix for code 10 and 43 and driver updates, uninstalls, reinstalls of the usb spots in device manager w/o luck. I have two targus media card readers with sd and micro sd slots. windows recognizes card in with the sound both with sd and micro hookd to either reader. I use the adapter also on my laptop with a media card reader in it w/o luck either. I am trying to get it to detect so I can format it to work with my 3ds. Please message me or email [email protected].

I assumed you already read the Samsung Focus wiki on the SD card topic.
Once you put the microsd, it becomes part of the OS and the card [format] becomes unreadable under OS/card readers. Removing it from the phone would result in phone data loss, the phone would ask for the card and not work anymore until you hard reset. So make sure you got all your media backed up before you do this.
Now, if you want the card removed from the phone and used somewhere else, it's kinda tough. Basically, if you search through the forum, you'd see that you need another device to unlock (re-format) the card:
- a Focus with a custom ROM (these have the card unlock utility installed)
- a Nokia symbian N or E series phone (N95, E7x etc) supporting microsd
- a camera (which may see the card and format it - not all brands may work)
