Nike and water... - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus General

This evening, during a party, some friends pulled me (clothed) into the swimming pool: obviously, I had my nike in my pocket...
The phone had been underwater for about two seconds and when I have taken it out it was still on, but the screen was saying "Are you sure you want to erase all data?" (or something else).
Tomorrow I will try it, do you think I can save it or not?
I'm praying...

Hurry, put it in a Jar with rice, totally covered, it's not a joke, the almidon of the rice will dry your NIKI, let it with the rice at least 3-4 days.
Good luck.

I heard something about rice, but I operated in other way.
After posting my message, I opened the phone, dried it with an hairdryer and left it opened until today morning.
After reassembling it seems to work, but:
1) The screen has shadows
2) When the screen turns off I'm unable to switch on beacause retrolight starts but the screen keeps black. The phone works, only the screen is blank.
Do you think it could be a screen problem or other hardware's?
Any idea?

It has not be a good idea to dry your NIKI with a hairdryer, it's too muhc hot ; maybe some components has moved or, maybe, still is water inside, try with the rice...
The problem can be that, if were water inside the niki and you turned it on, the could be shortcircuits in some componets
So, the mainly idea is, put your niki into rice during 3 - 4 days to obtain a fully dry, and see what happens.
Good luck

Also, dont overdue on the rice, you know what happened last time:

I don't know, what's happened?
Anyway, do you think that my screen problems could be due to humidity?
The phone works perfectly except the screen that when it switches off for energy saving force me to re-start it because it's blank (but the retrolight works).
Do you think that by changing the screen I can solve the problem?

Sorry about that, if you seen the image it's a "kung fu panda" rice joke.
I left my pocket in the bathroom during my shower once some while back, and the screen now has some humidity that's only noticeable when the screen is all white or completely off, its only in the centre and it if touch it, the humidity moves to the sides but it comes back when I stop pressing the finger.
It works the same way and nothing stopped working, but then again, its was not fully wet.
With my Qtek S100/S110 I used to leave him in the bathroom always during my shower, but apparently these new models just can take it...
I never took this model apart and I don't advise ppl to do so, but the humidity can be between the LCD screen and the touch screen, so it should be as simple as separate and clean them, but you'd probably be better off if a professional did that.
Good luck.
And I wasn't making fun of the rice idea, it seems plausible, but I think its needs to be in physical contact with the soggy areas to have effect..

It's really strange: as I said, the only problem that the phone had after the "bath" was the unability to turn on the screen when turned off for energy saving. The only solution was to turn off energy saving options, I said myself, the battery operativity would be less but the phone functionality would be ok.
After a week of use, the screen stopped to work. A morning, I took the phone out of my pocket and it was BLACK! Tried to turn off and switch on again but nothing...only two times (on about 70 tries) i have been able to see something.
Now, the screen is gone but the phone keep his functionality.
Is it possible that an elecronic component stops to work "progressively"?
And, above all, do you think that the problem it's only on the screen or could be something else?

No one can answer me? I'm evaluating to buy a spare screen and try to change it, but I would like to have a more expert opinion...

You didn't dry enough your phone, so rust have killed your screen...
Ask service center for changing (Not for free ofcourse) it's more good idea than do it by youself without any exp

You can get a new screen here for $60,- http://cnn.cn/shop/touch-dual-p-2277.html and a nice tutorial that shows how to take your dual apart: http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_htc_touch_dual/
Tip: get some cutips and alcohol to clean the board and other components
Anyway, isn't one of your friends (who threw you in the pool) ensured for breaking other peoples stuff, and prepared to do something for you?

Yes, I'm waiting for response from assurance company. I hope they will give me the phone back, just to test if changing screen will solve the problem.

I think you turned your phone on too soon.. If there's still water inside, it might cause a short circuit when the phone is turned on. I was always told: disassemble your phone as much as possible (take out battery, sim card etc.) and lay it to dry on a heat source for at least a week.. And then just pray your components don't rust.. You might try disassembling your phone and cleaning components which look dirty with some alcohol and qtips as suggested before.

Thank you for your advices, I'm waiting refund from assurance company (it should arrive next week) then I will do all attempts!

How to clean a PCB? Have I to insert it fully in the alcohol then clean all components?

No, put the qtip in alcohol and squeeze it to semi-dry, then clean the components (epecially non-permanent electrical connections).
Remember to use only soft materials to clean the device and to not leave any fibres from cloth or qtip in the device. Also remember to release any static current form your body (touch a bare metal area on your radiator, for instance).
Alcohol is a fugitive, so no need to wipe it off, just let it dry some time (the less you touch, the less possibility to break something). Remember that the alcohol between objects needs more time to disappear, so wait a little longer even if it's visibly dry.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!
It works!!!

the "shadow" is visible only with che screen off, and it's not of the screen protector....i removed it yet!
it appears only some times, not every...
what could it be?!?
Thanks!
Hi, I also have this on mine. I had one spot, but now it have been split into two smaller spots. I'm not sure what it is, seems like some kind of liquid??. When I press my finger on it, it floats around. I'll be happy if anyone can explain what this is. Maybe my dear Trinity needs a service ?.
i sent an email to the htc support with the photo of the problem...waiting for an answer!
It looks like liquid between the digitizer and the LCD.
you need send Trinity to assistance... your lcd screen need to be changed
little bit of advice, send it via the retailer you purchased from. Not direct to HTC. Retailers (in my experience) can get a little funny if you bypass them.
but,it comes an goes randomly...for example, yesterday night it was there and from this morning until now there's nothing...
could be the magnet of htc case
you can explain better?
my english isn't good, but the clip magnet of the case have a little attraction also inside the case... so maybe a magnet a little bit more "power" **** your touchscreen... pda should put into case always with touchscreen beside magnet because battery take a good shield and you haven't problems... but in your case it's late. I think it's the magnet of case that broke your touchscreen... check if direction of touchscreen problem is the same of Clip
here the answer of the htc team:
"Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting HTC Europe support.
With regards to your query, it is a possible fault with the handset. I would advise that you contact your retailer. However if they are unable to assist please respond and we will assist you further."
I dont know to express right in english, but i try: If you go from a warm humid place to a cold place water in the air is condensing (!?)) on surface (like in winter on thin windows) that could explain why this happens only sometimes.

Moisture is the possible problem. I had a SonyEricsson P800 that I dropped in the lake. It had the same type of discoloration, only worse because it was IN the lake. It finally dried out and even worked but there were always little bubbles (minerals) in between the plastic touch membrane and the LCD screen. Try putting your phone in a slightly warm dry place overnight.
Ok,thank you.
This morning i have put the P3600 in a packing with 4 envelop of "silican gel",anti-moisture.... what you think about this?

probably best to stick it in the airing cupboard. That would be nice n warm.
At my work, our engineers keep getting pentablets wet (when it rains - they use them as an umbrella), I advise them to stick it in the airing cupboard, and it works a treat.
Hi guys,
I have this phone for more than a month and I have exaclty the same problem.
I went back to my retailer and when I showed the screen there was nothing !!
Yes it is definitively random.
But I am not sure this is not linked to the protection. I noticed this problem after I put the protection and even if there is still the problem when you put off the protection, it seems to disappear after a while.
So my question is : is there a guy having this issue and who has never used a protection ? And if you remove your protection, is it totally disappearing or not after a while ?
One last thing, when you have the problem have you try to remove partially the protection ? On my screen the shadow becomes bigger !!
EDIT : I Have a new case (noreve) with a magnet button at the bottom (so not on the screen) and I still have the problem
hi!
well, i start to think that there's a link with the screen protector (i have a brando ultra clear). Could be that the the screen protector with his electrostatic power attracts too much the "touch screen" creating separation from the lcd screen?
Because thinking about, there was no problem until i try to install the screen protector...we should try to uninstall the screen protector for some days, and look if the problem comes back...
This is my protection :
http://www.covertecstore.com/fr/t-s...00-t-mobile-mda-compact-screen-protector.html
I think there was two kind of protection, one ultra clear and the other ultra ....
You can do the test to remove the screen protection for few days and check if you still have the problem.

I'm testing what you said...tomorrow i will tell you what has happened...
did you try to remove che screen protection for few days???
News:
without screen protector, there isn't the problem...
so,i think there are two possible options:
1)the screen protector ,with his electrostatic power, attracts too much the "touch screen" creating a little separation from the touch screen and the lcd screen;
2)when I removed the screen protector with the scotch,i involuntarily raise the touch screen from the lcd favoring the exit of the moisture that probably had entered some time before.
What you think?Did you try to uninstall the screen protector?

Is my vibration motor dead / disconnected?

Hi everyone,
My Hermes does not vibrate anymore, there are two possible reasons as I see it:
1. I dropped my phone on monday, the battery cover came off and the battery fell out, the phone seemed to be fine after I put them back (most likely)
2. I upgraded from radio 1.18 to 1.27 (unlikely)
Those are the only two recent events which have happened to my phone, and as I doubt the radio has anything to do with the vibrator motor I assumed that when I dropped it, the motor broke off its contacts or something.
Things I have tried:
1. Upgrade to AKU 3.3 (previously running SA 1.35)
2. Downgrade radio to 1.18 again (no luck, back on 1.27 now)
3. Hard reset
4. Soft reset
5. BL 1.01, 1.04
6. Various combinations of all of the above
I have come to the conclusion it must be a hardware issue. I've looked at pictures of the inside of the Hermes but nothing is obviously the motor - could anyone point it out to me on an image? I'd like to have a look at it and if it has broken off its contacts, solder it back on, or buy a new one and install it if it is broken.
Also, are there any programs that can test the vibration definitively? It doesn't vibrate when I am rung or texted, even though the setting is to vibrate, and it doesn't vibrate when I toggle vibrate mode from the Comm manager.
Many thanks
unfortunately your not the first to suffer this problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293004
i know that's not really of much help, in terms of fixing the issue. but i think it proves that it is some kind of hardware fault that many of us are experiencing. i've had this problem for a while now, and yeh, its very annoying, but I dont trust t-mobile enough to give it back to them to get it fixed because other than that everything else works fine, and in my experience if i get it repaired its bound to come back with even more problems
Thanks for your reply, I had read that thread but unfortunately for me I bought this phone off eBay (for £245 after O2 wanted £260 to replace my Wizard...) so I have no warrantee.
I am an electronic engineer so I'm not afraid to get inside either, if it is an obvious and easy-to-fix fault (wire needs resoldering or something) I will let everyone know.
Don't suppose anyone can point to a picture showing the motor could they?

The motor is on the back cover and contacts the mother board via spring contacts. It is possible that a sharp knock could flatten these contacts and stop connection to the board. This would be an easy fix - bend contacts back to original position and all you need is to take back cover off!!
Mike
I have fixed it - I opened up the case (just took off the back cover - this voids your warrantee) and it is located at the bottom. It has two spring loaded pins which contact the main board, and one appeared to be bent slightly out of shape. After bending it back I reassembled and everything works again!
Thanks for your reply Mike, I had actually just got back from my mate-with-the-T6-screwdriver's house where I fixed it when I read your post!
Thanks all
A hard knock can bend the Vibrate Motor's copper spring contacts enough to make them lose contact with the board. In other cases contact may be poor due to some oxidisation on the contacts.
For those who are not worried about their warranty, giving those contacts a tweak back into shape would not be a daunting task. 4 screws on the back cover, remove sim card AND Micro Card and with a bit of patience ease off back cover. That's all the dismantling needed .
Do remember to line up the little macro toggle arm on the camera with its catch on the cover when putting back together. First time I did this I forgot, got everything all screwed back and then discovered the camera macro arm was not lined up with the switch on the casing. So i would check the macro switch is working before finally putting screws back in.

Some people are able to get the motor to re-establish contact with the m/board by giving the device a few sharp taps on the bottom edge. This can work provided the spring contacts are not excessively bent. Worth a try especially for those with a warranty for whom opening up would be warranty voiding.
Cheers
Mike
Ahh...so that's why my Dopod838Pro is not vibrating at times...I knew it had something to do with the amount of times I dropped the phone...(lol) well, I will try this solution and get back to you guys.
Thanks for the info Mike.

Maybe I'm Retarded, HOW DO I OPEN BATTERY COVER???

I just got this phone and I have read through the manual and looked at the picture of the cover off the phone in the quick start guide. Maybe I am retarded but sliding the phone up like it says in manual isnt doing anything. How can the battery cover for a phone be so hard, I am looking at my sim card and battery next to the phone right now and I'm like putting those 2 in the HTC hermes was no problem at all.
First device I have ever encountered where I couldnt even figure out how to open the battery cover to get the darned thing powered.
The Trinity is hard to open the first time but easier after that. The cover is tighter than other devices I have used. I suggest you cradle the device face down in the palm of one hand with fingertips holding each side and one finger just around the top edge. Then use the thumb of your other hand to push the back cover away from you pushing on the corner of the back cover near the USB connection.

No you are not retarded just push the cover up, it will be hard for the first time since everything is new but it becomes easier after couple of times.
Hold it in your left hand face down and puuuusssshhhh with the right.
pu pu pu pu pu push it good , ooh baby baby
When I went to the shop to test a Trinity the vendor tried for 20 minutes to open it. Finally I had to do a search on the web on his laptop to find out how to open the phone
haha
i also had some serious difficulties in opening the cover too... i was almost breaking a sweat...
yeah.... I was also cursing Dopod about the user manual that only has an arrow... Thinking they'd stuffed it and the product is just another product from the usual suspect manufacturing countries with poor documentation... Searched online, found nothing, then pushed real hard... Bit of a bastard that.
For anyone else who wants to read through some other (sometimes funny) experiences with the battery cover, look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283976
It was really embarrassing also for me, ... a computer specialist not
able to install the battery on a phone !!! ... It took me about 10 minutes,
several web searches, reading the manual chapter 3 times, trying to
discover some new messages .... until I gave a little bit more energy
trying to open it !
With the phone on the table, screen on the bottom, just move the back cover to the phone top.
Heh, so glad it's not just me..
Had the exact same problem, took me 20 mins. Of course, having spent the buxx on this, last thing I was going to do was force it! Had a bad experience with a $400 piece of electronic gear, within 20 mins of getting it was heading out to use it the first time and a.) fumble dropped it, just as I was walking and my foot was swinging out so b.) basically drop-kicked it down the sidewalk. Got some wonderful scratches all across the faceplate. All in the first 20 mins. Not going to do that again with anything if I can help it!
I find the cover fit a nice change to my previous phone - a Blackberry Pearl... it's cover would fall of by merely looking at it!

hahaha i like that one! cover would fall off just by looking at it! maybe you have telekenetic powers you didn't know about.
anyways i too had the same problem. it was obvious to me how to open the cover but god it was really stuck on tight. i spent 10 minutes trying to slide the damn cover and my fingers just kept sliding off the shiny new surface.
I hope this helps. I had problems openning it at first, but got instructions from my saler.
Basically put each hand on each side like you are praying, then slide in different directions. The cover should get off. Hope this helps.

HD2 Opening Instructions for dummies (only till Main PCB)

Disclaimer: Opening your HD2 will result in your warranty becoming VOID. Any damage to your HD2 as a result of following this walk-through is not my fault and was because you have large clumsy hands. If you want your phone repaired professionally without your warranty voided, send it to your supplier.
Tools you will need:
- HD2
- T5 screwdriver
- Tool kit for Phone/iPod/PSP (available on ebay, pictured below)

1) To start off with, turn off the phone then remove the battery cover along with the battery, SIM card and SD card.
2) WARNING! This next step will VOID your warranty. Remove the 4 screws using the T5 screwdriver.
3) Now comes the fun bit, stick the suction cup near the top of the screen and insert the blue tool (for lack of a real name) between the screen and casing.
4) Once the blue tool is in you should be able to pop the screen out one side at a time as there are two sets of "hooks" that hold it in place. You can pull on the suction cup to make this process easier.
5) Now that the top bit is out you need to run the blue tool down the sides of the screen to loosen it up. Then pull on the suction cup and it should separate quite easily.
6) To remove the main PCB you need to remove 3 screws using the T5 screwdriver. There are 6 connectors on the Main PCB, 3 on the top (yellow) and three on the bottom (red). You will also need to remove the copper shielding, you can do so by carefully pulling it off taking care not to deform it as you will need it back it the same place when you reassemble it.
Reassembling it is just a reverse process of the disassembly with the exception of the volume buttons, I've found them quite annoying to hold in place as you push the screen back and had to try multiple times to get it right.
That's all I got up to so far, if I get a weekend off I'll try to go further and do a complete guide, along with replacing the screen. If anyone has any suggestions/improvements please let me know as this was a little rushed.
Notes: You can use a plastic screwdriver if you don't want to buy the blue thingy but it may damage your phone. On my first opening attempt I used a screwdriver and there is slight damage to the top where I inserted it. Second attempt with the blue thingy and there is no additional damage and the screen was much easier to remove.

This is very informative. Thank you.
Very well done. Thank you for your time. I do hope I will not have to come back to this guide anytime soon .
Many thanks, but can you do a youtube video of this? I tried to do this using exactly the same tools, but i didn't manage to remove the glass unit from the backcover although i used the blue plastic tool in the same way.
When do you have time to look at the screen? I've got all the tools ready, and the replacement screen. Hope to see some guide somewhere soon
Sorry, been real busy as of late. May do it in a month or two. But there are some videos that might help you here.

Thanks. My HD2 has a crack running from the battery holding place and all the way where the screen starts. I was gutted but looks easier than thought now , Thanks to these instructions by you if I buy a new back casing cover.
Thank you, Maybe now I can start thinking more seriously about replacing my LED to support more colours
Very nice quality BTW
If I may say well done I have had to take down my hd2 twice for screen replacements and I can't really say I'm proud of it.

SM-T580 Black Screen

Hello,
While listening to music today on my tablet, I noticed my screen was black. I tried turning on and off with no prevail. I could still hear music before I tried to boot into recovery.
After booting into recovery the screen would still not turn on and I no idea where to turn.
My device is rooted and running custom firmware.
Thanks in advance
Let the battery drain out completely or open up the tablet and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. That may fix your problem. There is a youtube video on that.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Thanks a million!
It worked! I searched on YouTube on how to disconnect battery and it was so easy I was able to do it with a credit card in the front seat of my truck!!!
Thank you again for the extremely fast reply
We are facing this problem in the sm-t580m model - in a few tablets (around 14)
May you pass us the video please professor?
Opening tablets!
I’m not able to post the video.
But I Googled, “how to open tablet” and found some redneck looking guy opening it on his front porch.
I use an old credit card to open it from the edges. And i actually went back to the credit card because the tool I used from a phone repair kit kept breaking.
If you need I can make a demo. Let me know!

After opening, remove protective tape and unplug the ribbon cables (one at a time). A smaller one and a longer one laying over whole battery. Wait five minutes, plug back in, and reassemble case.

Don't use metal prying tool, especially for novices because you will damage the LCD frame and case easily. Do carelessly like the guy in video will easily damage the case.
Remove the battery first is important step because disconnect and reconnect cables may cause a short circuit if you don't insert them properly.
Remove the white and small cable is not necessarily because it connects speakers and home button to mainboard. The main problem of black screen is from a loose LCD cable, like this one, the line on the cable is below the line on mainboard which indicates it got loose and you'll have a black screen.

So someone removed battery cable and other two cables and think it fixes the black screen problem is not correct. What he did actually fix the problem is reseating the LCD cable.
You should discard the OEM tape and use your own tape to secure the black LCD cable, use as much as you can because the connector is too weak to hold a long cable like this one.
Awesome
Thanks for the insight..!
I admit I don’t know exactly what I’m doing, but watched some videos on how to solve the problem.
I do notice though that after the screen blacks out, if I leave the tablet on until the battery fully drains and plug it back in, it corrects the situation as well..? Idk what that is about but thought I’d throw it out there.
Anyways thanks again for your help and insight!!!
Reseat the battery might fix the black screen but 90% of the time it’s from the loose LCD cable.
Normally, I reseat the battery first, plugin and the battery icon doesn’t show up, then reseating the lcd cable is next step. Always disconnect battery when doing reseating cable to avoid short circuit.
Many many thankz for the info Beut, it fixed the black screen on my sons Tab, after opening the tab i checked the lcd cable and voila the line was not straight. I pushed the cable back in,
so that the line was really aligned, tried the tab and got a lot of kisses and hugs from my kid .
So many many thankz from a happy Dad and Son
Thank you, I have been able to recover my T585 too, I reseated the batery and lcd connector and the black screen problem was fixed.
