Is there an option on the 8525 to disable GPRS completely? I have MediaNet blocked on my account, just to be on the safe side. Being overly cautious, I even changed the settings for GPRS from the AT&T defaults by using fake letters for the connections.
With that said, it is annoying that when I lose connection with the Wi-Fi, it tells me the GPRS failed. It's like, hello -- yea I know, I don't want it on my device!
I have used Wi-Fi successfully to find websites at home, work, and a local restaurant. I even used it to send a yahoo IM without needing MediaNet, which uses data or even messaging. The next thing that needs to be addressed is avoiding the GPRS messages.
Oh yea, when IE opens, I would like to get rid of the AT&T screen as the default. I tried to delete the page, but it wouldn't let me do so! Is there a way to change the "homepage"?
Thanks for all future help!
Yes there is. Go to start>settings>connections> connections> and edit everything you see there and delete it (tap and hold). I have this done because i also don't have a data plan.

That was a temporary fix. It doesn't say GPRS error anymore, but now it says:
"
Error S7019: Cannot connect to server. Please
check your data
connection and try again.
"
I've only tried it on "Xpress mail" so far, it may be only on that program. Does Xpress mail only work on the AT&T MediaNet connection?
If anyone is still reading this, I recently removed both the AT&T and Cingular Xpress Mail programs from the device. Haven't checked other programs to see if it's still trying to access the AT&T internal internet. However, that was the program that created the previous error posted.

I looked on this page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_provider_cabs but it does not have the provider info for AT&T (mMode)
I am not sure how to create one but I think it would be something nice to have so if someone knows how this is just a request if it's not too much trouble to make.
Thanks
Here ya go.... Works for ATT as everyone says on this board... SEARCH THE FORUMS
I don't have MediaNET, I have Pre-at&t, Pre-Cingular, AT&T Wireless mMode.
Are you telling me I can use the MediaNET settings?
AFAIK I have to use "proxy" for my AP name and use some other IP's as well to be able to use mMode.
IE this config - http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&thread.id=38077
I just don't know how to make a .cab to auto set this up every time I hard reset or change my rom.
I would like to bump this up, can anybody out there create a at&t blue mmode settings cab?
You really don't need a cab. Just add a new new modem connection to "my ISP" in the settings-connections tab. Name it whatever (does not matter), choose "cellular line, gprs" from the pull down, then click next. Access point name is "proxy" and click next/finish. Nothing else needs to be done. Don't need "WAP settings", http addresses or anything else. I flash my trinity constantly and this is all I ever do.
so you don't need to put in the 10.250.250.54 connection strings for mmode and mmode mms? it gets annoying re-entering all that data just to have it gone again everytime some new hot rom comes out that i got to have.
i'd write a cab myself if i knew how.
yup like the post above yours says, all you need is to make a new connection that connects to "proxy" and your done for the mMode connection.
For the MMS the only two things you need to know are;
10.250.250.55:8080
http://mmsc.mymmode.com
Then you select the connection you made under connections and your done.
EDIT:
btw, are you in a 3G network area and is your service working?
No problems with 3G, including "H" and I am still using my original blue ATT sim from yrs ago.
Do you mind if I ask where your located?
I am really getting sick of being jerked arround!

I can't get any help or response either!
DH, I'm in DC & live in MD, no problems in either of those areas.
With regard to settings, have you tried another browser? Running WM6 and using IE with the above settings never works but switching to opera solves the connection issues more often than not.
BTW I’m in the DC (Mont. Fred. And Washington county) area as well if it matters.
Hi...I got my mmode data settings to work according to your suggestion...but can't get the mms to download. I've got the old blue sim card...any suggestions for getting the MMS to work along with the data? It connects...retrieves message headers, i know who the messages are from...can even get subjects...but all the messages just hang at 0%??
When I am using WiFi at home, the browser and email are both lightning fast, except I cannot use MediaNet. The MediaNet web site I can only get to when I use the internet connection supplied by AT&T instead of WiFi.
Can this be fixed? Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks for your help...
My guess is that AT&T needs to authenticate your identity by using your sim card information along with their Medianet setting. By using WIFI, you are getting online through different route and your information can't be verified. If you paid attention closely, you can see medianet's url is something like http(s?)//home, which is not a valid internet url AFAIK. I think medianet setting is coded to forward that request to actual URL medianet home page.
You can not use MediaNet Hompage or CV when on Wifi.
this is because the address of MEdiaNet is...
http://device.home/
its an intranet address - so you need to be connected to their towers, with the proxy set, so when the proxy sees that address, it points you to within Cingular, not out to the web, back into Cingular.

what are you going to use to signin with...whats the password.
I have the PDA Unlimited plan through AT&T, and by default, MediaNet was in my favorites list in IE. However, it never loads, and gives me a "this page cannot be displayed error". Is this because I'm not on a MediaNet package?
EDIT: As Neverwork said, I needed to re-enable the proxy, and now the MediaNet page loads... however, why cant I have the best of both words... having it enabled, being able to reach the MediaNet website, AND browse over wifi?

When you set up your MEdiaNet account online, through Cingular/Att, you set a user name and password.
Here is the spot where you can register, if you haven't done so:

Install VP3G's WM6 - its based off the ATT WM6 so its got PTT or you can Remap it - and its got Cabs under Programs - Proxy Manager that are Enable and Disable Proxy Cabs
Definitely something wonderful to have, as you dont have to go to connections and all that crap, you just go disable - and then browse over WiFi and Enable only when you want MEdiaNet
AND you can change while you connected - no need to disconnect to make the changes

Hi there,
I have set up my POP3 email account on my HD (though have set to leave messages on server) and it works fine on Wifi (checks, downloads, sends, etc). However when I'm not on Wifi and I'm on TMobile data (HSDPA, 3G, GPRS, etc), I get an error when I try send and receive. It comes up with "error synchronising" and a popup appears at the top saying...
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings." If I go into settings, I get the list of connections, but can't see anything in there that needs changing. I'm on T-Mobile in the UK, and it lists "T-Mobile Internet" and "My Work Network". If I go into the T-Mobile Internet settings everything seems fine in there. And it all works when I go into the web browser, or Youtube app, etc.
Its almost as if the mail app doesn't have access to the data connection unless its over Wifi. Is there something I'm missing, or an area where you can tell it when to use the data connection? I've even tried manually enabling the data connection through the comm manager (rather than it starting when an app needs it), then switching to mail and clicking send/receive - still the same error.
Thanks,
Dave
Can anyone help me? I'm not sure whether its connected but I also have a problem where another programme (Lotus Notes Traveller client) doesn't seem to be able to get access to the internet connection on the phone, regardless of whether its Wifi, 3G or anything else.
Thanks.
this may sound odd but bare with me! i can get on the net and emails but my hd would not check emails when in standby no matter what i did. I then realised i couldnt send or receive mms messages! all the settings seemed ok. Anyway in my mms connection i changed the wap setting to 1.2 from 2 and my mms worked! But since then my phone now checks email in standby! I didnt realise they were connected but may be worth checking.

How do you change that wap setting. I have the same problem, but on T-Mobile USA
Hi,
I found I could sync emails using Wi-Fi ok but got the dreaded "failed to sync" message when using the GPRS method. I am also on T-Mobile.
The problem is T-mobile only let's you send emails using there smtp.
You need to go into the email options menu and keep clicking through the settings until you get to the send using smtp box, here you need to type smtp.t-email.co.uk
This will send mail using the T-mobile network.
Please post back if this helps

Thank you - works perfectly for me! Good call!
Hi everybody!
I have a little issue using my work's exchanger server connectivity on HTC Touch Pro.
Issue: To access internet, my provider uses their "walled garden" APN, which allows me to access their services & general web.
This APN, however fails to work with Exchange.
To overcome this, they have given me another APN, which allows me to access Exchange/Push & Internet but not their services.
Now, it is really, REALLY annoying have to change APNs every time I need to access different info (web vs. provider's page) and I have not been able to find anywhere to specifically point Active Sync to use the required APN as it only has option for "Internet", which I assume is the generic active access point
Dialling rules also are useless as I'm using HSDPA with no proxy to access web.
Apologies if this is all too confusing and thank you in advance for your assistance

Thank you!!!
So I have done that and can have 2 multiple APNs running at the same time!
It seems, however, that both connections have to be "ON" at the same time as when all APN are disconnected, it doesn't chose the correct data account but always the one that is higher on the list.
Is there a way to overcome this - is there a way to prioritise which data account I want to be used first?
Thank you again

Hi, I have a HTC Kaiser with BlackBerry Connect and I don't have the issues you describe. BBC creates it's own APN which is not used for anything else. In 'Connections' I have 'My ISP' set to use the Vodafone APN I manually defined. Under normal circumstances BBC keeps its own APN connection active, if I open IE or another app that uses the Internet then the Vodafone APN activates and the apps send their traffic over this connection.
One issue I have is that there is no way to disconnect only one APN connection, when you click 'disconnect' both APN connections are closed, however a few seconds later the BBC one reactivates.
EDIT: Sorry, scratch that... For some reason I though you were using BBC - don't ask me why, obviously my brain was wandering elsewhere. But back to your original problem. I don't use Exchange ActiveSync and I don't know if you can configure ActiveSync to use a specific APN like BBC? You might be able to configure the Exchange Servers URL to be in your Exceptions list so it uses your 'My Work Connection' instead of the 'My ISP' and therefore uses a different APN? I am not sure if it would work, but worth trying?

Hi all, got my new HD2 yesterday, got phonealarm, TOMTOM7 and a few other apps loaded plus all the HTC patches and latest ROM. Its an HTC branded phone on T Mobile PAYG.
When I go to check my e-mail, it pops up asking me to check my data settings with a dismiss button. When I try and use Twitter it says the service is temporary unavailable. When I use the Weather to update I get a similar message.
Browsing and FB are fine, I have requested the T mobile settings but they arrive as a voicemail message which is odd. Any ideas?
Thanks all.
tmo uk use a proxy, which is the first thing to turn off,
settings menu all settings connections* connections manage existing connections proxy tab untick uses a proxy.
try that, if that doesnt work, at the * point above, there should be a 'connection setup' app. Give that a try, but dont forget running it will probably re apply the proxy.
Genius maty, works a treat now. Also my twitter is now working. Could you explain why unticking it works? Cheers.
i'd assume its to do with the proxy traffic shaping in some way. i believe tmo compress images too,
Its the fault it did'nt even try, just popped up with the connections error and the dismiss button.
Just tried it again, fine, goes onto 3G, jumps to H, then checks mail no prob.
Only other thing to sort its the weather, it picks up my local town which is coded in. But the "my location" won't work. I get a connection error Retry YES or NO. Get this regardless of whether its wireless or active sync.
