when I turn on wifi in vista,I saw that vista recognize it marvell wireless sdio adapter.I wonder whether we can have driver for it in winmo.
The shift Projects is working on it AFAIK.
Haven't heard something from them for a long time but i think their next goal is to get SD card working.
well I'm not sure there still someone working on that project !!!

Well, let's put it laike that: as soon as a new device is announced / sold every single force is put to work on that new thing/gadget. You can easily see it by reading here and there in this Shift sub-forum and comparing what you see with, for instance, what you see on Blackstone sub-forum.
What happened is quite easy to understand: new game = high interest. Old game = low interest.
In the first months many people cooked new ROMs, and it was hard to keep the pace with it (you could really flash one ROM a day...). Now everything is quite "asleep", and you can see people thinking on "porting" Blackstone ROM on Shift. This means, to me, that nobody is seriously working anymore on this project. I'm not accusing anybody, and I do know that one of the developers is in big troubles because of his daughter. I'm just saying that we should keep in mind that our Shift is no longer a "high-interesting-gadget", but it became something like a "spare-time-hobby" even for the best cookers out there.
I'm just sorry that many people (and it doesn't mean you, of course) is still harshly asking for something that, I can bet on it, no one will ever do. As if this forum were some kind of "McDrive": push the button, place your order, wait for a couple of minutes, get your pizza+coke and... don't pay!
Ciao!
Hi there,
i saw the same thing, but as i am new and only got 2 devices and really love my shift, and my Diamond when i request something someone deliveres it.So i got my whole interest into the shift. As people can help here, do whings like:
Look for a device with the same Marvel chipset (dunno if its connected to MSM7200) and get a rom of that and send it to me with a pm and i'll try to port the winMo driver to one of our roms

Me too, I'm completely satisfied with my ****f and my liberated ROM (I flashed it a century ago, may be there are some more performing...). To tell the truth I would even use y shift with a "normal" WM side, but I'm sure I would miss the possibility to surf the web in few seconds (I often "need" to google here and there... even the fastest Vista configuration needs some seconds to be on).
I was just saying what anybody can argue just by going on XDA forum home-page: Blakstone: more than 200 people viewing; Shift 14 people viewing... Doesn't that mean something to you?
Well it seems that the shift project was a good opportunity for some people to get device for free and that's all .the way it works don't give me the feelings that donate in any project makes things works on!!!
I am soory for being in thatkind of mood !!!

Think twice, the shift isnt that much worth, if you really count the hours they already spend by liberating etc. and pay them like a real developer with that know-how, you would probably end with a much higher bill.
In my opinion the only problem is the communication, or just beeing honest, if it wont work or nobody continues with real effort or somebody is not coming forward with a problem, just tell it.
Ehy guys,
can u get back on topic, the shift project is discussed in another thread!
As im not part of Shift Projekt i cant say anything for them, but they did good job !
Olipro thx for HardSPL
cmonex thx for porting the GPS driver.
But they go quiet so i decided to do some "extra" work, so it was mentioned!
So get back on topic and stop flaming!
Anyone got an rom from another device wich uses the same WIFI chipset ??
I googled a bit for sd8686 and windows mobile but didn't found a thing.
http://www.pudn.com/downloads97/sourcecode/embed/detail396197.html
i cant read but seems to be interesting, if anyone can translate i would be glad.
There are 3 or 4 ppl trying to get sd8686 stack working on ARM, but under linux. that was the only link i couldnt read.
As long as we dont get a driver developer for WINCE that converts the linux stuff to wince or that link as a good source, i dont think it will be possible as i dont see another device with sd8686 and ARM processor.
Greets
ps. anyone got INFORMATIONS that are usefull wich aren't mentioned jet ??
pps. please stay ontopic
Hi all, I'm new to the Shift scene. After having read the whole 'Shift>Shift' subforum I can see that activity has petered off somewhat since this time last year. One page of threads used to last about half a month, now one page of threads gets us well over a month (I hope you can understand what I' trying to explain there). I plan on bringing together all the ROMs, Radios, Guides, etc into one thread that can hopefully be stickied like in the Xperia X1 forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477801), because at the moment there doesnt seem to be anything like that here.
1)So out of the original members of the Shift project+others (names below):
a) Who still has their shift.
b) Who is still actively looking in to ways to improve it. I.E. at least once a week.
Looking on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375898 at post #18, it looks like the core members were:
ltxda
Olipro
Cmonex
PK
And some good contributors:
Thaihugo
Pawel062
Saiweb
2)Who were actually the official members of the Shift project?
3)Who else was involved in the Shift project?
4)What were the original goals and how many of the goals have been 'scored'? See below
5)Whats are the outstanding goals, i.e. full screen and SD Card in WM ?
6)With regards to 'full screen and SD Card in WM' how far did you get, and what ultimately stumped you?
7)How many Shifts did you buy with the donated money and whose got them now?
If there is anybody with a Shift purchased with the donation money who is not using it anymore, perhaps you could donate it too me so I can continue to try and unlock any more secrets this device holds.
I am now going to start reading the whole 'Shift>Shift upgrading etc.' sub forum starting at page 15 and working to today.
If anyone wants to help me correlate all the ROMs, Radios, Guides etc, any links would be helpful.
8)Does anybody know how many different ROMs and radios there are for the Shift?
Like I say im going to read up now but if someone already knows that would be helpful.
Coming back to question 4, I will give what I think were the goals. Please feel free to add or subtract goals :
a) Get SD card working in WM - Not done
b) Get WM fullscreen - Not done (Limit of MSM7200 is VGA)
c) Get the device HardSPL'd - Done
d) Create custom ROMs - Done
d) Get GPS working in WM side - Done
e) Get GPS working in Vista side - Done
f) See if HDD is upgradable - Done (it is)
g) See if RAM is upgradable - Done (it isnt upgradable)
h) Get mic working on WM - Done
i) Get wifi working in WM - not done
j) Get bluetooth working in WM - not done
The 'Shift Project' ground to a halt when newer, shinier toys came along.
I can't wait to see this project being active again. Right, there are hundreds of devices out there but Shift is still the only one which combines
windows (7/vista/xp) + wm + phone.
Honestly, I would try to answer something not too bitter. Let's put it mildly: The shift project is (has?) probably not working (ed?) anymore (way?) for the shift. They sure got the money, but never delivered. On the other side, any legitimate group trying to help was dead on arrival because of this. Every cluster of developer failed because the shift project was magicaly reapiring to promess a new development.
I would consider this "projects" as a request for a hardspl adaptation for a device. Anything else would have need some other efforts. I think we can be happy with the current possibilities, and move along with it.
Ahhh I see, well lets wait to see what Itxda and comnex have to say, maybe we can get this ol' baby fired up again!
It would just be nice to know where they got with thee SD card and fullscreen WM issue.
Dont give up , keep on trying to solve the sd card , bluetooth and the rest that is not done yet . U can do it . Just try n try again , u know u can do it , concentrate ...

1. money was spent on getting device, so it's not like we used it for our living or whatever
2. I don't understand some words, maybe typos? "reapiring", "promess"? please can you rephrase? thanks a lot.
2b. as for not delivering, I would disagree. we got a lot done, even if some of it was leaked by certain members before our group's release also, I can't vouch for what others said, but I never promised that BT or wifi even has a good chance for working.
3. anything else than the hardspl/radio/phone stuff is more work for sure. for example the WVGA mode enabling in ARM part works only half so far.

I got your PM so I'm replying here now
1)
a) I have mine. love it! as for the others, see below
b) well, not once a week currently... :S
c) PK is pawel062. but he left windows mobile scene for iphone :cries: (he never got a shift, tho)
2) you got the "official" members right other than that
3) you got that right too
4) see project thread, but a quick sumup, HardSPL, radio unlocking, phone funct. unlocking, GPS, cooked ROMs, and the low level/hw hacks (WVGA, SD... the others only if possible). I guess other than hw hacks that's been done for the most part
5) yes, those two
6) WVGA half works, I can enable it, picture no good yet. I found SD was disabled in the bootloader where I saw evidence for use of it, no further news right now
7) Shifts: I have one from the project, Olipro too, ltxda got one, which he wanted to send to PK to cook for it but he left the project. I do not know what happened to that shift, as ltxda got distracted by the death of a family member. I'll ask him what's up with that. there is no other money left in the Shift account.
7b) as for sending it to you (ltxda's device), I'd like to know what sort of experience you got, what sort of goals you'd like to try and achieve
by experience I mean: coding experience (and what languages), low level driver experience, reverse engineering experience, etc... but then, I'd like to first know what goals you have in mind as well
8) I have a few radios, ROMs, if you mean stock ones, then not terribly many.

what about BT and WiFi? I was able to check the virtual COM ports for them and tried to enable them and noticed something was blocking it. Were they too disabled at the bootloader?
Thanks

Vinokirk sweet thnx for stirring up this part of the community.
Our Shift is a 1 off. Keep it, caress it, nurish it.
After the Chinese debacle (Someone having a too large ego and hoaxing about SD) nothing much happened above the surface.
My idea would be that everyone start sharing his findings for making SD , headset mike, and BT work (in respective order)
Like CMonex staed that the WM bootloader disables SD it seems. This seems new info and might spur others to action.
Shift project has delivered beyond expectation in the early days.

cmonex! Many many thanks for your reply; your information is very valuable to me!
Yes I was devastated reading about Itxdas story, it was truly a tragedy and my heart goes out to him.
Personally my goals (in order) are:
1) SD card
2)'Personal calling' over BT or wired headset.
3) WVGA screen in WinMo
4) Cooking everything into a ROM
But I am very much a community person. If anyone has an idea they would like to see developed, I would try my darndest to make their wish come true!
I have some basic grounding in C++, Pascal (he he he), and Java. I have a friend and brother-in-law who are AMAZING programmers in many languages, so they will be my 'goto guys'.
I have in the past re-written a couple of drivers in windows, but that was a while ago and they weren't low level drivers.
I haven't officially reverse engineered something before, but I have taken loads of things apart to fix, so in a way I have been taking say a phone apart to find out what the problem is.
I have A-levels in Maths and Electronics (they are the UKs 16-18 yr old exams), but nothing at degree level.
I do however have experience with cooking. I have made a couple of my own ROMs for my Xperia X1.
But the main thing is, I have a passion for things like this, as you can see im asking a lot of questions, and posting in a few threads!! So with your guidance I'm sure I could deliver at least something! This would be a great first step into your world and I am really looking forward to getting the opportunity to do so

As far as I know, olipro and you weren't part of the shift project first, and they called you to the rescue. So again, I thing the shift project AFAIK, never released a think. They "rebranded" you as shift project because they didn't have a think to provide.
Also, I don't see the leaks you're talking about. Was the group about to release something? Do you mean your radio? Has it anything modified from a 1.27 radio? because otherwse, I think we are all doing the same job here, taking existing roms, modifyng files and releasing them. The trick is to find the right files, and I don't see where any work here is stealing or below somebody elses work. I don't think anybody took a rom from the shift project, modified it and claimed it as it's own.

some news???
Maybe it’s just me but I wanted air my views on current crop of cooked ROM’s. I have been an avid flasher since the glory days of cooked ROM’s from the Hermes (TyTN) era but recently I no longer feel the urge to flash, I guess the novelty has worn off me or I’ve just become a boring old fart whatever but to me it seems that a lot of talented chef feel the need or urge to release a ROM every other day with all the bells and whistle i.e. latest drivers, builds etc…. Quantity rather Quality!! The latest and the greatest does not always mean it’s the best!!!
Initially it’s great to have that choice and flash the ROM of the day until the next, just like a kid in a sweet shop all that choice but surely is it not better to release a ROM a few weeks or month down the line then to release it almost on a daily basis? At least that way one would be able to see significant improvements on the ROM!
I would like to make it clear there are very good cooked ROM’s here that would put some stock ROM’s to shame and with the recent advent of the 576 RAM hack it’s just another valid reason for novice to flash, all I’m saying is can we have more Quality ROM’s then Quantity it’s getting to the point “Too many cook spoil the broth”
well, there are many broths out there, not only 1 broth. So it doesnt matter to me.
i am inclined to agree, up to a point.
I used to cook firmware for LG phones (Viewty / Renoir) and often got accused of releasing too many, sometimes just days apart. My arguement then, and now, is that nobody if forcing you to upgrade.
However, the choice of cooked roms is mind-boggling, and there seems to be no definitive comparison table to easily show the differences between them, and the information supplied with each one is not always accurate. I have only had my HD2 for a week now, (and still loving it ) and i have flashed about 5 different roms, and keep going back to the same one, Leo Lite, by Mr Vanderlay. For me it is the best. And so far, seems to be the fastest for my own useage.
I do think there needs to be some collaboration between cookers to make comparisons easier. And perhaps slowing down releases, just a bit would make a world of difference.
Not naming names or ROMS, but some i have tried are indeed the latest and greatest, but some fundamental things remain broken and are therefore not useable in an everyday situation. This is a PHONE after all, and whats the point of reinstalling everything evry single day?
Find something you like, and stick with it
I think the section should be more organised, e.g. a WM6.5 and 6.5.x subsection with WM build and Manila build specified in tags.

Great idea. I'd love something like that as well. I feel overwhelmed trying to swim through all the choices sometimes.
Hi !
I think some chefs should work toghether creating the best rom ever ;-)Collaboration is the best !!
not wishing to sound elitist, cos im pretty noob at the whole cooking game, but do you not think the lack of a super simple join the dots scheme actually helps prevent accidents by forcing people to do a little investigation themselves?
if it were boiled down to "click here for best rom" people with zero idea what they are actually doing would be flashing like crazy, then complaining when they get a brick.

i think you misunderstood, what we have said is some sort of comparison chart / better named and layed out ROM section would make it easier for everybody. Nobody has stated they want a "click here for the best ROM" system.
eg:
ROM SECTION
--------------------WM 6.5
-----------------------------"Freds rom v1.1" 21889 Manilla 2.5.2010 WWE
-----------------------------"Marys rom v4.5" 21890 Manilla 2.5.1922 GER
--------------------WM 6.5.x
-----------------------------"Andys rom v1.0" 25315 Manilla 2.5.1921 WWE
-----------------------------"Janes rom v2.3" 24001 Manilla 2.5.2010 ITA
whats so wrong with that sort of layout? at least it makes it easaier to find the type of ROM you want rather than trawling through 3 or 4 pages of highly confusing rom names that get all muddled up. Its even worse where some chefs have WM6.5 and 6.5.5 roms with similar names.
Since Leo is currently the most powerful WM device, most cooks definitely would get one, and is understandable lot more cooked roms would be available.
You folks should feel lucky for that. (man, I am still waiting for the NA version...)
jackleung: import one from Australia! 850 3G compatible!
Also, someone tried to create some 'sense' of the ROMs by making www.xdaroms.com but it comes a bit short.
The concept is sound but some things need to happen to make the site great. Namely:
1) Chef support: Dedicated accounts where they can upload freely, add details, etc.
2) UI revision: It looks like the same damn mobile oriented sites we've seen for the past decade
I like the fact that there are many releases and so quickly. I also like the fact chefs are pushing the latest tech to us so quickly even if the rom is not perfect. release early get bug reports release fix etc.. its moving the platform forward and keeping it interesting imho. sure some better organization would be nice but the changelogs on the chefs pages for me do a good job of telling me what's inside the latest creation.
now I have just cooked my own rom I want more faster latest releases of dev branches to play with
I think too that there are too many choices without clear layed out differences between them.
I hope that there were some comparasion but I think its just a matter of variety
There is no substitute for real-life usage bug discovery, so I think releasing newer tech as soon as possible (letting people know that it is sort of beta and will contain bugs) means those bugs can be found and resolved quicker.
Actually, most chefs do tag the topics with WM6.5 or WM6.5.3 and mostly even include the Sense version.
After a while you realize what rom offers what. Personally, i stick with one rom that i am happy with, until the cook changes something that doesn't fit my needs anymore.
Also generally there are concepts to rom design: Some chefs cook roms with particular flavor, i.e. tweaks, hacks, design changes (such as custom task bar, backgrounds, boot splashes), and some just create "stock rom like" roms, that mostly offer either a stock rom with removed junk, or a stock rom with updated components. I prefer the latter.

I feel the same, in fact my new years resolution this year is to only flash stock ROMs!. My HD1 was the worst for it, every other day I would be flashing a new ROM, the pattern would normally go something like this:
Week 1
"Steve" finds a new way of improving speed and creates a ROM including the fix, I flash it but find that a few other things are broken.
Week 2
"Sam" then builds a ROM with the new speed improvement and nothing broken. So I flash it. But then realise that its blisteringly fast, because the ROM has nothing in it!
Week 3
"John" then builds a ROM that looks beautiful and has many applications, but lacks the new speed improvements. I flash, and am back to square one! And the cycle continues...
I don't think its anybodies fault, and I don't want anything to change, but I think that perhaps some of the more experienced users are feeling a little jaded now. Whereas the newer users are still in the honeymoon phase of being able to flash new, varied ROMs! I also think that there is more competition between chef's these days, and users demand the new discoveries in their favourite ROMs. (576mb / 1gz for example), meaning that the cycle is becoming ever shorter, as people are discovering new things almost daily!
it is very hard to flash rom every day this way you cannot keep any data on deice you need to inistall programms every day apply tweaks every day so so hard

Well said, I couldn't agree more!
All true and all the different choices don't make it easier but I do notice I usually stick to a few cooks having my favorite roms...
I mean, I like a certain windows build, certain looks (default white clock, no transparent stuff), some basic apps and functionality, no need for a document tab, etc...
As a result I stick mostly to the Miri roms (and every now and then I try another, now running energy since I really liked that on the touch pro) so once you have your mind made up about what you want in general a number already drops out of the picture.
Wouldn't it be better to ask some of this enthusiastic "chiefs" to help developping Android instead for developping redundant versions of windows mobile in different "flavours". It is just waste of time. We need Android, where the real fun is!
Damn , I checking everyday, looking for official ROM update for my HD2 ( Poland )
This time ( this HTC phone ) I wont to try "normal" way to rom flash, without different 'home made' ROM'S
What a freaking policy the have ?
Fake announcement's , almost official rumours, giving rom update only for some country's - damn !
After my third HTC phone I sad Enough !
There's always something - sms issue or other issue, lack of something, no drivers, no compatibility ! damn !!! It's like fighting with the wind.
But...I'm still here with my new HD2 - I'm giving last chance to HTC, they have my ultimatum 78 hours to release official ROM update for Poland !
If not......well , I know where thay have office, and where's a nearest gas station
I think that almost everything is because current market - new mobile every week, new OS every 3 weeks, new..new...new, where's that time's when producers release only 1 phone in year, but relay improved ! and with 99% working and stable functions !
HSPL is your friend

I also said "This time I'll only use stock ROMs". I lasted 1 week before flashing a custom one again
Exactly ! I use it 1.5 week, and I will give HTC time till Friday 11:00 , then I will flash some unofficial ROM.
( and I will send email with picture of my butt to chief of HTC )

bwahahahahaha : -)
They don't read this forum so I doubt this 'threat' will even register with them - just flash a custom ROM and be done with it. They're better than stock anyway!
They have spy's here.... to read about every issue and then they can say that "it will be fixed"....someday, when they release 11 new pda's before end of the next month, of course with 6 different OS, on 3 different ROM's
They do read it. They said at MWC that they listen to forums and stuff to get feedback.
I feel your pain man, Eastern Europe seems to be ignored in regards to 1.66 update. I don't care about it that much, because its working fine, but i want an official rom with opera 10 full version and with pinch to zoom.

It has been almost one month without any support developement for any HTC device (last was Released 2010-01-28 for HTC Magic) so it is not HTC HD2 specific
And the reason is probably mobility trade fair season, so I guess they were working on new product to have something to show and here comes your "11 new pda's ..." complain
So basicaly you are right
Well, that's why we have this site and cooked ROMs... I definitely wouldn't have had all the HTC devices I've had (seen signature pic) if it wasn't there.
HTC do follow, with mixed feelings obviously as people here are for sure abusing their phones, but at the same time they buy them, thousands of them...
Their devices are great, and it's not really their fault if WM is flawed as it is. They've already done quite a bit to try and improve it, then well there's so much you can do... at the same time until now nothing had WM's versatility, diversity of apps while staying open, which is why we stick with it even with the drawbacks... even if android is now slowly overtaking.
HTC Give us HD2 1.66 rom update for Poland !!
Hey !!! Guys from HTC !!! I know that You reading this !
!!!! 21 hours left !!!!
I already had take picture of my hairy butt ! It's ready to send.
On last two hours I will be ready , with my finger on the mouse pointed to "send" button.
You do know that all ROM updates for the region will come via SunnySoft -
http://wwww.sunnysoft.com/htc/
?
I would hazard a guess that if it has not been released yet, that they are still working on the localisation?
I know about localisation form Sunnysoft, but it's not about language - I want official 1.66 rom for east Europe , I want them (HTC) to go to work and threat their clients like they should to. I want patch's for all leak's in HD2 rom, and I want suitcase filled with $$ and plane to country without extradition
so why don't you install HSPL and flash to ROM for your region?
But there is no difference between official and cooked ... why moan?
I have my HD2 from 2 week's from now, I know that sooner or later I will flash some cooked rom, I always do it with my previous HTC's, this time I though about giving HTC a chance to be "on time" with ROM update.
They have been, just not for you
What ROM do you have at the moment? Is it a vendor locked one? If so, it's them you should be venting at NOT HTC...
EDIT: Just checked their site and there's not even a 1.66 ROM. Think you should contact them directly as you'll get a quicker response than on here...
479.1
I'm waitig for 479.1 rom too.
Leo is my first HTC device, so i want to flash official way for the first time, obviously Still got some patiance...
afropolak, good luck on your mission, make sure to write feedback what HTC CEO thinks about your hairy one
Ok, time's up ! Right now somebody in HTC headquarters look at picture of my hairy butt and try to understand why ? Why somebody send it.
I flash Laurentis ROM yesterday, I must to say nice , but - few application that works well before, now crash every times ( mTollbox 0.3.0 ) but it's a other thread case.
I will still try to catch official ROM , because for my new bug-less rom I cant install semi-official Polish localization from SunnySoft.
Like I sad On the first post - DAMN..!!! THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING WRONG WIT WM DEVICES AND OS.
Yes, I know, I'm moaning again...
Hi all
Love my Nexus One
being a heavy user of many winmo and android devices feel like the ROM development on this is very dull
any reasons?
I noticed that too, then again...most of the nexus ROMs out are near perfect...and don't require as much hackery as the G1 Roms did...I dunno whatsup with any ports as of yet, but I'm sure things will pick up.

This is exactly it. The fact that there aren't constant updates to ROMs is a success I think...it means nothing is horridly broken. This is the first phone I've had in a long time, that I've been so satisfied with, I'm not flashing a new ROM every other day.
We have the latest version of android out there that is accessible by the public or the ROM devs (that they can release).
We aren't trying to backport features because of the above.
The only real (I say real in a non "thanks bro" way) ROM porter we have is without internet (I assume on vacation).
As stated above, most things already work as they should.
While development is slow compared to the G1, also remember that all of our devs also do work on other devices and don't just devote all their android expertise to just one phone.
There isn't any new material to work with. Until Google releases FroYo or new beta updates we're at a stand still.
If you worked in the software world, you would be seeing this as a good thing

Here you go!
http://android.git.kernel.org/
Hope to see some awesome ROMs from you.
Enjoy!
Its a good thing because there are no major bugs in existing ROMs. They only get updated when google or some dev introduces new features...
This is my first phone which is still running stock ROM. With all my earlier devices...something always seemed broken or felt like it lacked something.
When I had Touch.. Touchflo was launched by HTC and all the ROM development was diverted to getting Touchflo on Touch. And with lack of enough RAM, there were always choices to be made on what you want and hence many ROMS
Then I got Diamond. It was good, but again had less RAM than Touch Pro. Again race was to get Touch Pro features in Diamond and again choices had to be made to cramp up things in the limited storage.
Then I got Touch Pro... and within few months, Diamond II and Touch Pro II was launched. Cooks started scrambling to get new touchflo 3d on Diamond and Touch Pro.
Then I got Diamond II, and sure enough HTC continued there trend of backstabbing it's customers and launched HD2 with new touchflo aka Sense. Cooks then started to figure out ways to get Sense UI on diamond II.
So you see, there were always things lacking... which forced cooks to figure out things that HTC should have done for us. HTC's first Touch phone was launched along with iPhone... but touch hasn't received any updates for past 2 years.... and Apple is still supporting iPhone (although no OS4 for them).
N1 on the other hand is Google's responsibility. We have the latest OS and features. There is not enough "to-do" things here.
Regardless of that, our Chefs are doing amazing job at giving us the features which AOSP is still finalizing.
With all due respect to you.. I think it is a bit unfair to say that the chefs aren't doing much.

I'm sorry, we'll get right on it, boss.
It is "slow" because the phone and the ROMs are so damn fast and good already. You can't port 1.5/6 ROMs over because we can't map the buttons without having a 1.5/6 Kernel made for the Nexus One. That is never going to happen.
As well, really? What is slow about the development? We have tons of new apps coming out all the time, the ROMs we have a super fast and super stable. New Kernels every day or two pushing battery life and CPU power even further.
There is tons of development going on. Just because you aren't seeing new ROMs every day doesn't mean a lack of development, it means the ROMs we have are super solid, and development has shifted to making the other aspects better, like apps themselves, and so forth. That is one of the best things about Android, you don't need to flash a new ROM just to get some new apps, like HexiLauncher and what not, all you need to do is install the app, and voila you have a new home/launcher option on your phone.
Or, you don't need to flash a new ROM just to get a new kernel, you can flash the kernel yourself (if you know how to follow simple instructions) that gives you the newest features, and features that mean more to our phones running super fast than a new ROM would mean... actually by ROM I am talking about system.img...
Anyways, if you really think things are just way to slow, then either learn how to do it yourself, make a huge donation to your favorite developer on the basis of them picking up the pace (and by huge, I mean 50k+, so they can quit their day job), or just accept the simple fact that there is a ton of development going on already, you (and many as of late) don't seem to understand enough to realize that kernels and apps are more important, at this point in time, than a ROM update every other day.
LOL another one of these threads curious as to what else can you ask for? All the tweaks that are available and possible for this phone has already been done.
thanks to all those who replied.
i am not blaming any chefs. they are doing a highly respected job and i respect them and their work very much. thanks to all of them
i was just telling that the no.of chefs on this device are very less but maybe the reasons are diff as everyone told
like king personally coz he does experiments like blur and others
personally i like experimenting with diff roms , so only felt little jobless as compared to other devices but happy with almost perfect device.
Now this I would agree with you. The number of ROM devs are a lot less compared to the G1, :-( the phone is fairly new though.. But the ones we have working on the N1 are all great nevertheless .

ahh.. so you are suffering from what I call XDA syndrome. It's when you start feeling uncomfortable when you haven't flashed a new ROM in a week. I had that too... back in WinMo days... fortunately N1 has helped and I have resisted so far!
re: above post..
hahahaha... "XDA Syndrome"
Seriously though, Modaco has been gone for awhile. Got stuck cuz of the volcano issue... it's been weeks since he has released even an update!
We are a little spoiled with the N1 I think... on top of that with 2.2 coming out shortly I think a bunch of cooks will be kinda waiting for that to come out before they do any more major tweaking.
The main thing I personally am waiting for is a fully working SenseUI on the N1.... I kinda thought it would materialize much quicker once the DESIRE came out.

LOL... i think i have the same problem im feenin for another enom rom but as he stated he was on vacation which i can respect cause im going to Miami soon. I have no complaints to the rom development but i'd love to see more themes like motoblur style X10 style i miss my motoblur theme on my magic
[edit] And before your go saying i should make one myself i tried and it was to difficult for me for some reason.
Coming from winmo myself it was a change not having a dozen or more roms to choose from but in reality looking at it objectively most of the roms are either adding something that came in a newer device or more or less a rehash of what was already done in that they didnt do anything new but they did it in a different way. Not that the latter is a bad thing, the improved layouts people came up with greatly eased, speeded up, reduceded the number of clicks, etc. in getting where you wanted to go and I at least was happy to see them coming down the pipe. As an aside when winmo was as youthful as android is now there was a lot less rom activity than what you see now as best as I can recall back.

lol, I had that like 2 weeks ago...kept flashing and flashing and flashing...finally I settled on my highly customized 5.0.5.3, still haven't jumped to 5.0.6 due to wifi issues (and me being suspended until payment next week)
I had 'XDA Syndrome' with my Magic.. I found myself flashing something new (ROM or theme) every week. Now with my Nexus, I have no desire to do so. Like others have already said, I think it's a testament to the stability of the ROMS out there coupled with the fact that 2.1 is already kick ass. We already have the best software on our N1's people. Believe me, once 3.0 or even Froyo comes out we will see an increase in ROM development.
Also, there may not be many devs for the N1 as of now, but many of the absolute best ones have a Nexus so I'm not worried about future development.
