SD Card & screen alignment - Hardware Problem? - P3600 General

Hi all,
weird one this, whenever I insert an SD card in to my slot the screen alignment goes completely out of whack. All screen presses are shifted anything from 2mm to 2cm to the left. I have tried a variety of ROMs and memory cards and always the same problem!!! Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening or how it might be cured? I was thinking it might involve cracking it open?

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Hi,
I heard that several type of SD exist on the market, and are build of different kind chip "layers" (I don't remember the exact technical detail). Well, a lot of them are VERY SLOW and are designed to be cheap and for data storage only, and not realtime and CPU handling. So you can have a 2 GB SD with a low cost that seemed a good affair, but in reality is built of a single layer and it is very slow compared to another more expansive. The SD circuit refresh timing could influence the HTC, so that the video pressure are wrongly calculated. The point is that almost nobody write the SD layer info on the box.
- Did you try with a good brand SD ?
Regards.

Well I tried one from Moby memory that was working in my past phone fine and one from China. Turns out it was the phone in the end anyway as once I got a new Trinity everything works fine! Strange but I guess we will never know why it started being weird...
thanks for your response

Strange SD card behaviour

Whenever I soft reset the device the memory card is not picked up, or only half the directories are picked up, and I have to pop it out and back in again for it to recognise everything correctly..
I am running 1.72 and we have three imates here at my work and they all behave like this.
Sometimes the Storage Card just seems to vanish even when there was no reset and the card has to be ejected and reloaded to pick it up again! This occurs daily for me (only had the device 4 days though) and one of the other guys here says it hapens quite frequently to him too!
Is this common behaviour for the imate/xda2 ???
I had similar problems with my SD card in my XDA2 (1.66.00wwe), i took out the card and formatted it a few times in my PC and so far it dosent seem to have happened again. This problem originally occurred in my ipaq 4150 so im not sure whether it was card related or not. There's an application called Pocket Mechanic which can run tests on SD cards, might be worth running that to see if it picks up anything. If you need a copy of it you can "borrow" mine.
mmm, no problems with pocket mechanic test!
Might back up data on card and try a low level format through PocketMechanic and see if that helps, but it is strange we have multiple devices and cards here (my work) all with the same behaviour. My Card and imate are both brand new..
Might be of interest: what brand of cards are you using?
There ARE issues with SD cards, mostly related to data transferrate.
Some brands are fast (ie KingMax i read) some are very slow (ie Kingston/Toshiba i noticed)
I bought a Fujifilm 512MB SD card off ebay for a silly low price, originally blamed my problems down to that fact but it seems to be ok now.
It is a Sandisk card (256mb) so VERY slow
Not sure if it is related, but I had an issue with mine, where I could read the SD Card in my PC, but not in my XDAII, unless I pushed it very firmly down, holding it in place.
It turned out to be dirty connections on the Card. With a bit of a clean (with a Screwdriver), everything works again!

FYI - a pencil eraser is the best thing to use to clean contacts on PC boards, memory cards, etc. It is only mildly abrasive but does a great job of removing grime, etc.
HTH
Browsenow - excellent idea. In fact it comes close to my blue-tack inventions. Well done!
Jupiter - Thanks! I have adapted pencil erasers to another problem for which your solution was BluTack . . . the missing external aerial cover. I found a pencil eraser that was the same diameter as the aerial (antenna for those of us in the US) connector hole, chopped it off and inserted it. It has the added benefit of being firm and slightly longer than the hole, so it provides stability when the device is laying on the desk.
Oh well . . . I guess I need to find something more interesting to fill my days . . . like making my imate work as a TV remote so I don't have to wrench the actual remote from the Mrs.
Are you trying to say that the rubber solution is better than the blue-tack solution! I vouchsafed you the honour of saying that it came close. Dont throw that back at me. !
Blue-Tack is better because
1. Its sticky
2. Its blue
3. You can use it to stick things
4. In an emergency you can take it out of the XDA and stick a note to the fridge
5. In the event of being bored you can make a baby teddy with it
What can rubber do apart from rub.
It was a 'good' idea but lets keep it at that
First of all, you did not say it was a 'good' idea - in fact you said it was an 'excellent' idea. As for BluTack . . . if you use it too many times it will be neither blue nor sticky!
As for the eraser, it is better because -
1. It is firm
2. It is NOT blue
3. It can erase things
4. In an emergency you can . . . um, you can . . . :?
5. In the event of being bored you can use it to CARVE a baby teddy - well a really tiny one!
Ha! Long live the eraser 8)
Now your just being silly!
Where are my blue-tack buddies when I need them?
They have all abandoned you and are out searching for various sizes, shapes and colors (colours?) of ERASERS!
They should start their search here: http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/Sku.asp?PageType=1&Sku=507053

Too many defects?

Right so I've been snooping around and this phone seems to have 3 major problems that may or may not be confirmed issues as of now: Inferior quality screen on some models (no SLCD?); Slow loading times; and the screen defect that members have been talking about in here.
I reside in Spain currently and I was wondering if it is too risky to try the batch of phones that was handed to Vodafone?
Oh and can someone confirm this with this.
Is the USB cable a real indicator?
Hi..
With my first Trophy i'd definiately agree with you.
But after the I send it to repair to get the screen exchanged I was pretty much astonished. Something must have been wrong with the first series, as they exchanged the whole phone. (New IMEI).
Meaning: I got the phone back last Friday, and I haven't had to turn it off, because the Marketplace crashed or something similar.
As with the loading times - I'd say this is normal, as the phone is running of a Micro SD card and not the faster NAND Storage as in Samsung models.
Can't say anything about the USB Cable, as I only exchanged the phone, not the acessory.
Anyways: I think it is now save to buy a Trophy if you want to.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Screen is fine with these devices!
There however two slight issues:
* The loading of very big amounts data is a bit slower because it's not on-board nand memory. This can be fixed by putting in a better sd card.
* Camera is crap

[Q] Focus affected by static electricity?

I have a Sandisk 32GB MicroSDHC card in my Focus and I have a problem with it resetting itself every few days. I understand that there is an issue with instability with SD cards but I am wondering if, in some cases, it may be related to static eletricity. When it resets, it happens when the phone comes in contact with a surface such as my nightstand or the leather case I am using. It has never happened while I am holding and using the phone. It is a known problem that the touch screen does not respond properly when the phone is sitting on a surface. Last week it completely locked up with a black screen when I handed it to a coworker. I had to remove the battery to get it back. When is resets itself it comes back up with all factory settings. It doesn't prompt me to set it up like it does upon first boot. If I power cycle it, it comes back with everything intact and I have no problems until the next time it reboots. Perhaps this issue only occurs when an SD card is installed. The back case has a raised ridge that corresponds with the position of the SD card. I just put a piece of electrical tape on the inside back cover where the SD card is located. I will post again when I know if makes any difference.
Is anyone else having similar problems that look like it could be static related?
The tape made no difference. The phone reset itself again today. Sigh....
its your sd... it is not stable... theres many many scenarios that the bad sd cards cause... 3/4 of the info in the working sd list thread is good... so far not seen a 32 that is stable... still waiting for the samsung that was supposed to be released last month... a 16gb thats solid till then is the samsung...

[Q] Device overheats and reboots after screen replacement

Hi mighty community,
My device (galaxy s4 gt-i9505) was working perfectly until one day I found its display cracked inside my pocket. No idea how it happened but the phone appeared to be working as I continued to receive calls (though I was not able to pick up).
I left my phone and a local samsung dealer for repairs and today I got it back. After 10 minutes of normal use (browsing, updating some apps) the phone started auto dimming and then increasing its brightness uncontrollably. I have the auto brightness turned off and brightness manually set at max. When I went to check the brightness setting it said "max brightness reduced to prevent device overheating" or something along the line. The device then rebooted and I had no problems for another 10 minutes when the same happened again.
Could this be a faulty display? Could they have changed something else on my phone that could have screwed that? My device software seems intact as to the state I left it. Nothing is lost and no changes seem to be done.
Any opinions?
Display replacement is a fairly simple process, that is if the whole lcd+digital was replaced. If that is the case then all I can think of is that the new display for whatever reason is hotter than normal and adding the heat to the logic board causing overheat.
If just the surface glass/digitizer was replaced then this is a more complicated and risky process, involving heating to remove adhesives and slight force to remove glass from oled screen. This is more risky and taxing on the life of the phone which is why I dislike this method and prefer just a entire screen replacement. There are other problems too that make this method not ideal such as bubbles and improper application of adhesives, its just a hassle sometimes.
Anyway with that said it is possible that what was done with the repair is likely or possible to be the cause, just hard to know what exactly without having hands on.

The entire screen has been replaced + the digitalizer and everything. I have the old broken one as well so I can verify that indeed a new lcd + digitalizer has been installed. What I was able to verify as well is that the overheating is only happening when I have an sd card plugged inside. Only then my cpu goes to constantly being under 90%+ load even during idle. A quick glance at the battery drain shows that the Media process is just killing my battery. I did a fresh wipe data and I will format my sd card shortly (right after I get everything off there). Hopefully that fixes the problem.

Seems there is an issue with an app which is accessing files from your SD card. I had the same issue. I deleted unnecessary files, formatted and transferred the remaining files onto my SD card, which did the trick.

At the end formatting the sd card did the trick. Its funny because I did a full data wipe and deleted all apps and the issue was still occurring until I formatted the sd card from the phone itself. After I did that I copied back exactly the same files I had when the problem was happening but this time everything worked as expected.

X Compact loose randomly sim card

Hello
On my XC with LOS 16 Android 9 sim card is randomly lost and need to reboot to get back online.
I suspect an OS issue because no specific situation ( shaking, falling, shock...) make this happen. Most of the time, no event is clearly is guilty.
As someone meet this behaviour ? do exist a way to fix it ?
Thanks
Try cleaning it's contacts or replacing it.
A cracked mobo solder joint or trace do it too.
So you think it's a hardware issue than software. I will do.

If it's not a new phone assume phone hardware last otherwise return it.
Try clearing sim card tool kit data.
Clear system cache.
Try replacing the sim card; they can and do fail usually from ESD damage due to poor handling.
Always treat a sim card like a stick of ram. Follow ESD safe handling procedures.
Nobody does and that the #1 reason for failures!
A failure can happen on the spot (a mercy) or days, weeks, months even years after the ESD exposure. Don't let some goofball in leather soled shoes walking on carpet in a dry ACed store even touch it
In over 10 years I only ever saw one tech handle a sim card correctly. Like ram sticks they leave the manufacturer fully functional... until they are mishandled.
I've never had a blown ram stick or sim...
ok, how to clearing cache ?
what is ESD ?
it's an used phone in good condiiton ans the simcard was in other phone before but environements are so differents that is not a reliable comparison point.
thanks
