My friends on XDA2 reseller said that the hardware quality of newer XDA2 on the market is lower than previous...it was a missproduct
especially XDA2 with ROM 1.66.165 and bootloader 1.06, it had bad case, bad display and bad ROM chip that can cause restarting/resetting, causing XDA2 coma that require hard resetting...
HTC taiwan realized that XDA2 era will come to an end soon, and they wouldn't like to spent lot of bucks for XDA2 anymore, so, there is a bad quality of XDA2 hardware (LCD,ROM chips,CASE,etc), let us know, their focus is now on XDA3.
and, the ROM 1.66.65 was never on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/HimalayaExtromVersions lists
There's lot of people complaining and frustating about their XDA2 (1.66.165)
My second XDA2 is 1.66.165 ROM, it restarts many2 times, hard reset once (buy it for 3 days)...upgraded it to 1.72.126, the problem still remains, it was very bad bad product compared to my first XDA2 with rom 1.60.44
My new XDA2 as compared to my old one:
- The screen is bit brighter and a yellowish screen seen from left angle.
- My 3 days old XDA already had loose battery cover??
- The ROM chip is the main reason for our XDA2 to be randomly locked up.
The conclusion:
wake up guys! it was a hardware failure...not the ROM...
newer XDA II
Hi, Friend.
Kasihan deh lu !!!
My sugesstion : back to vendor, or sell it !!!!!
is there someone who have same problem ????, please posting here......
thank's
I'm not selling it yet, there's no alternative choice right now...
XDA2 > XDA = impossible
XDA2 > HP6300 = nah...
XDA2 > etenP300B = nope
XDA2 > SE P910 = not interested
XDA2 > Nokia 3310 = sounds interesting...LOL
Sell your XDA2, get the cheapest phone, wait for next PDAphone line up...
NO
NO !!
i very very love my XDA II.
My XDA II is the best PDA Phone in the World !!!. (bootloader 1.03, bought in april 04).
XDA II > XDA III -> i will never buy (very very not interesting)
XDA II > NOKIA comm. 9500 -> may be ?
XDA IV > XDA II -> i will buy (very very interesting)
I miss my first XDA, bootloader 1.03 ROM 1.52.00 hicks...
O2 XDAII
Darkcell I've buyed the XDA last month and had the same Rom like yours.
Never had, until now, the problems that you have. (Don't talk so loud Murphy is listening... ;-))
I flashed it to 1.72.00WWE with cooked ExtRom.
My suggestion is back to vendor for replacement... :x :x :x
I've flashed my XDA ROM, Reseller in my country wouldn't replace it...no use...
I'm wondering, how did HTC get these 'bad' parts ? You think they did extra shopping to find a worse part an d probably cheaper ?
I really don't believe it.
Like most things, getting the parts fast is a lot cheaper then getting bad, cheap parts...
Like the Intel CPU's, they don't setup the productionline for 1200, 1400, 1600 etc MHz. They just make a lot of CPU's, then test them at 1600.
If their stable it's a 1600Mhz. If it isn't, it's tested at 1400, if its stable, it's a 1400Mhz. If its not, it's tested at 1200, if it's stable it's a 1200Mhz.
If it's is not...... etc etc etc etc....
I didn't think and say that they did extra shopping to find a worse part an d probably cheaper, I said that the newer XDA2 products worse than previous...
XDA II Coma
Evening peeps, just adding my 2 pennies worth with the newer XDA 2, i have indeed experenced "coma" like symptoms which for some strange reason can only be corrected with a hard reset. Its most odd and usually happens when im doing somthing. I dont know if the OS is abled to be debugged so i cant say anything more spacific, It may be totally unrelated and i havent searched here if anyone else has had this issue to please forgive me if i am repeating something old, anyhow, i also seem to get audio issues in that the sound turns off, im unable to turn sound on or increase volume, vibrate does not work either, its like the "coma" cept it only effects sound
dazza, what ROM do u have?
darkcell is 100$ right...
not only an xda issue..
it's HTC related..
all the new htc devices are of less quality..
we have three i-mate devices in the house..
mine was bought about 8 months ago..
the other 2 was bought about 3 months ago..
and what??
well as darkcell said.. the new devices have really worse screens than the already not so good screen of my device..
really annoying high contrast, yellowish, you can see nothing but yellow light when you look from even a little angle...
these symptoms do not exist in my device..
and believe it or not..
the 2 devices(my brother and my sister) are now useless since the headphone jack problem which i dont know how can we mend it(any one for help??)
im really sure that HTC are producing less quality devices and that's the cause of the price fall in i-mate(mine for 950$.. and after 6 months and in a very short time 570$)..
Shame...
I have a new release of the XDA II with the 1.66 ROM. So far it's been very stable. Only had hard resetting problems when I installed Battery Pack Pro 1.1.1. Aside from that, no porblems whatsoever.
Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones.
I wanna buy XDA II next week. With this kind of information I get, I have to consider back again my choice. Can someone give me advice. TQ.
I noticed that my XDA2 speakers sounds cracked when used for call, both in speakerphone on and off...
The stylus pen holder is loose...
metalz, wait for XDA3...
I'll buy an MDA2 within 2 weeks i hope i won't have any problem with it
When this XDAIII or MDAIII expect to launch in the market? If middle next year, I rather have XDA II because I cannot wait much longer to have a hand on my dream device.
My friend said that the XDA3 will be available on the market on Desember...
not perfect
my two cents worth:
ALL devices are not perfect, have you had OS software that worked perfectly?
remember bill gates when he presented at that time the NEWEST and most ROBUST windows OS? BLUE SCREEN right in his face? hehehe, that was the biggest irony in sofware industry.
Ok, XDA 2 is used with MS not-so-perfect software and HTC no-so-great cost cutting measures. PLUS sometimes, WE force the ISSUE by installing products wherein XDA2 is not even in the LIST of supported device and expect it to run perfectly.
My XDA2 has experienced 2 HARD resets, one on its own and another i did on purpose. YES, it has its limitations, BUT i still LOVE it coz IT works fine MOST of the time. I would say 95%.
Compare with other PDA-phones in the market today, XDA 2 still ranks best.
Nothing is PERFECT, show me a device and we'll find its defect.
With this kind of information we have, somene who want the XDA II will think back about it.
Hi,
now I have an old Nokia 6230 in combination with Mio P550. Nokia is pretty old, but so far ok for me (only thing I really hate is that I cannot sort my contact list in groups as I want to) and I'm using Mio mainly for navigation (i-Go) and synchronization of my calendar and tasks. Now the time has come to change my mobile phone.
New phone will be from Orange (under contract) and consider two possibilities.
1. sell Nokia and Mio and buy Orange M3100 (SK)
2. stick with Mio and buy Nokia 6233 (or maybe E50, but not sure I want Symbian, WM is better)
Pos:
1. all-in-one, WM platform, keyboard
2. built-in GPS, all my phones are Nokia, so I have all equipment I need, price (difference is 450euro, but something will come back if I sell Mio)
Neg:
1. no working built-in GPS, need to buy BT GPS receiver, price
2. two devices and Nokia has now really troubles to get out some no-bug fw for this phone
I have read all topics related to M3100 on this forum. This is great device, but there is big chance, that something will go wrong (e.g. loosing GSM signal and muting issue). I'm confident I will not update the ROM in this device in first few months because Orange will not allow me to do it without loosing warranty.
So the big question. Shall I buy M3100? How big is the chance I will have really big issues? Are there some S/N ranges, revisions, that I should not buy?
Thanks for any info .
buy it
.
Very tempting to say
Don't buy it!
But that would just put you back to a bit of a dilemma.
Bear in mind that the majority of posts here are from those that have had problems. Very few people make posts to say hey my e-mail is working or I always manage to take a good picture etc etc. So reading here would make you believe there is hardly a device that works properly.
Most folks probably get along just fine, but I would say that there are a number of tweaks and settings that should be done as standard on this device and then a full backup so you can restore at the drop of a hat as and when you do face a problem.
Your other consideration might be to wait for the Kaiser say, though that could be a while and initial pricing could be very high. Also newly released devices are a challenge for the ROM Gurus but everyday users should wait for several months after initial release and problems are ironed out.
I've got mine working just fine now, but I still get the odd freeze every couple of weeks - I backup a lot so not a great problem in my view.
Mike
Thanks mikechannon.
I'm around on Internet for some time, so I know that mainly complaitns can be found on boards. Satisfied users are not searching boards like this to tell us that everything is ok. They have no need. That is why I asked "How big is the chance I will have really big issues?". Guys here are working with this device on advanced level and can tell me more in few words as an regular user.
At this moment I'm 80% sure I will take it. I feel in me something like "dream comes true" . And I don't know why, it's missing working build-in GPS and big screen with 640x480 (joke). I have still one week to make final decision. Today I sent email to Orange to know more about the device (ROM version, etc.), hopefully Orange will responde quickly. If there is big chance (nothing is for 100%) nothing will brake down I will buy it
I decided to wait couple of months since I was not entire sure.
After two weeks I finally received reply from Orange. There will be probably no official update to WM6 and I'm not allowed to use any unofficial firmware without loosing warranty (so nothing new). There was only one useful information in entire email. Software in M3100 is version 14.123.8.783. But I was not able to find anything with this number. Is this real or Orange sent me something that is not useful?
I have my M3100 for four months now without any issues. You can check these faulty batches here. Only problem I have had so far is low in-call volume, but I think that is dependant on the OS. If you are sure that is what you need then go for it. Veľa šťastia.
I went from a xda 2i to hermes and not regretted it. I plucked up nerve to install black 2.0 (very happy with it) and if it goes wrong just put original wm5 rom back on it.
As for the gps thing, ebay has some cheap bt recievers and you can use them on any other phone you buy in the future (on my 4th phone with same reciever)
Orange SPV 3100 straight out of the box isn't that great.
I've totally customised mine, and everything works great. My biggest problem were the usb headphones/handsfree, which I have now hacked to accept 3.5mm headphones.
The biggest problem, which is out of my hands, is the camera. Completely useless at night time/poor lighting. Other than that, I am very happy... size, weight, battery life and speed are just fine.
Go for it if you think you can customise it.
(BTW, I am using the OS straight out of the box, so no firmware updates (although I will be unlocking it soon))
if you can wait a little bit then i'd look at getting the kaiser once that's out.
if not get the 3100 now and with the help of this place you'll get it working the way it should. imo wm6 is a must
KarhU - what was the original ROM version in your device?
DeanJ - well, I can wait (till Xmas) . But what will be the price and will Orange have its own clone?

I do not know for sure (it did not stay there for long ), but I think it was that ROM (it has the same Radio I had and the same bootloader as well, also OS version is the same) and this Ext ROM. All the versions of Hermes available in Slovakia are not localized.

well its expected to be released june/july by htc from the last i read but if orange will brand it who knows, it seams a logical step and it just depends what built in gps and a thiner device means to you really. as for the price it'll prob be the same as the 3100 when it was first released, i dont know what that was as i got my hermes from t-mobile
Out of the box experience for the m3100...had to kid myself everything was running ok, it was slow and pretty sluggish, not amazing by any stretch! Quite a bit faster upgrading to WM6, however you're always on your toes anticipating the next crash/freeze!
I would recommend getting one. I always have mine with me and I couldn't be without it. It really is the best device on the market!!!!
Had my M3100 since December last year. Best handset I have ever had from Orange. Add this to www.xda-developers.com and you have powerfull combination. I have tried just about all the english WM5 roms and most of the WM6 ones too. If you follow all the tips, instructions & advice etc in the WIKIs you can't go far wrong! Take time to read and search! I am currently running Black Version 2.0, personal and company IMAP e-mail setup on it, along with TomTom 6 and various other apps. Bottom line, go get one!!!!
i have been using a 3100 now for months with no problems at all,,,i have upgraded to black version 2.0 with i only did for fun and everything is great...
go buy one now !!!
So, I have an offer for SPV. The s/n is starting with 357. How old is it? In wiki I found only 6xx and 7xx.
It's home . Now I need to search for some good applications to work with phone, contacts and messages .
Hi there
I'm a bit new to xda's, I've just inherited an o2 exec. After playing around with it for a while it's flaws start to shine through quite brightly. From what I have read on here I need to flash the rom as a starter, but before I turn this thing into a brick I just wanted to ask a few questions.
1. From the guide I read, the imate 30 September rom is the best one to use, but that guide was made some time ago. Is this still the case?
2. If so is there anything different that I can expect installing on the o2 exec or is the only difference between the devices the hardware.
3. Any tips on where I might be able to pick this up from would be well received.
4. I live in China, apparently there are now all three types of 3g phone networks available, does this device work better with one type of network and not with another?
Much Gratitude

Welcome to the forum
1. The best ROM is the one that fits your personal needs, try several till you find the right one! (Personally I recommend Tomal 8.5)
2. If oyu have your original ROM is wm5, on this great forum you can find fantastic ROM´s 6, 6.1 and even 6.5 beta, so yes there aremuch different!
3. First of all please READ the Wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
Then search for the ROM you want on Universal forum, if you don´t know which then READ the members opinions
4. Uni has 3G for europe and Asia, so I don´t think you´ll have a problem with this
Good luck,
thanks so much
i have had a good read of the wiki but i am still a bit unsure about a couple of things. once i have these cleared up i'm gonna jump in.
so any rom will work on any unit (ie xda, dupod, jarjar)? Is there no difference whatsoever between the different brands?
also how does the speed of windows mobile 6 compare with 5?
thanks again
ignore me.....bit the bullet an went for it, every thing is fine and wm6.1 is running about 6 and a half billion times faster than 5 was
After 10 years of nokias the n97 finally pushed me over the edge and i am expecting my new hd2 in the post today.Just a question about updating it.After installing the new 1.66 rom do i have to install any other htc official updates or are they all included in the new rom?
Is there a way to check for new updates on the device or do you have to check the htc site all the time?
Also whats this i read about updating the radio. What does this do?
Haha just like my story, my last Nokia was the N97 .. look what they did, they made us nokia users divert to another phone company.
Welcome aboard
Im not sure about the last question, but regarding the first, a fellow good user told me that you most likely not need the official updates, but you can check in the HTC support for the versions they support. Most of them are 1.59 or below, so in that case you dont need them
I think you need to check their support page, or the RSS feed there. Dont know if there is another way.
Hope I helped a bit.
1. First of all congrats to your decision to leave Nokia and move over to HTC - you'll never regret this, I guess...
2. Please use search-function in the future. You have only to install hotfixes that are needed for your ROM-version - so if e.g. on the HTC-page is written sth. like "needed for version <1.6" then you haven't to reinstall these hotfixes again with ROM 1.66 (installation wouldn't work anyway).
3. To check if there are new updates availabel, you have to visit HTC-website (support section) - you can put an RSS-feed onto your phone to check it also - this is my solution. Better it is to visit this thite here XDA-Developers often, and you'll get also informed and beneath this lot of feedback according the updates.
4. RADIO is the firmware for the receiver unit aso. - it is responsible for reception (GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS etc.), very important for battery consumption and also responsible for a couple of other things like sound (not sure about these other things to be honest).
Hope this helps for the beginning.

+1 here
after tons of nokias, and painful waiting 7 months o release date of n97, i said googbye to nokia.
i gues they would need to make space shuttle in a phone to get me back
For me it's the same, too. After Nokia N70 and E90 Communicator, I also went to HTC. But I had two Pocket PCs more than ten years ago (Casio Cassiopeia), so finally meeting Windows Mobile again.
Same here.. My last phone was n97.. Didnt regret after changing to this phone and i just love my HD2 more and more as time goes by..
I was a devoted Nokia man for years, until one day I saw the Touch Diamond and was overcome with lust. I had my Diamond for a while, then a HD, and now the HD2. I can't imagine ever going back to Nokia now, but I'll always be fond of them.

My story almost the same. I had some Nokias, the last one was N95 and I then I bought a HTC Touch Diamond which... I generally hated . But it had a great GPS receiver and was very small so I was using it quite a while (for a year I guess) and now I'm using HD2 and I'm very happy with it although at first I was a little bit sceptic as I wasn't happy with my Diamond. Anyway in general HD2 is a great phone and I didn;t have some irritating problems with it so I would recommend it to anybody.
Same here, After years of Nokia and Symbian.. The N97 made me Mad ..
So here im HtC HD2
And i Love the Phone..
You've all been slow, look below at how long ago I did that move
hello guys i've beeen a hard core nokia user and after 12 yrs of nokia marriage i divorced it when there was no sign of a new communicator.....
same story here. From the N97 to HD2. Best choice ever. Nokia user for about 10years, but its very doubtful that i will ever go back to Nokia again after the N97 experience. The new flagship after the N95 failed bigtime.
Add another one to the list. I was using the Nokia 5530, and I just sold it on Saturday (literally) to help finance my HD2 purchase. I'll soon join the ranks, and as my wife just said to before I saw this post, "I don't want to ever buy another Nokia phone."
I agree. Symbian drove me crazy. None of these models have enough system memory to function well enough. The N97 is a disaster.
I'm glad I found this forum, because otherwise I would not have known how customizable the HD2 really is, and the fact that it runs Windows Mobile would have caused me to shy away from it.
just settings up the new phone . I have got a major problem hope someone can help

He he this is turning in to an Ex-N97 owners convention.
I'm in too and on a brighter note my wife loves it
Hi, i have been using WM 6.5 and Android for quite a while (HTC TyTn II and LG Optimus One), i recently decided to try an WP7 phone... so Optimus 7 seems to be a good choice.
I just have one question, how many finger touches does it support?? i cant seem any info regarding this (or any info regarding this on any WP7 phone) other than it simply being listed as 'multi-touch'.
Thanks a lot... and sorry if its a stupid question but i cant seem to find the answer anywhere!!
The screen apparently supports more than 4, but the software is limited to 4 points of contact, and that is what you get with Optimus 7. There are many games in the Marketplace that demonstrate this. I must say, as a Optimus 7 owner, and having tried the other WP7 devices, the Optimus 7 probably has the most ... Optimal touch experience of them all ... HTC ones are far too sensitive.
Screen support up to 10 fingers , I don't have more fingers to try
thanks a lot... guess i will prob go with this phone.. but have to save up for a while..

I bought it unlocked on ebay for 165 euros!
http://cgi.ebay.de/LG-E900-OPTIMUS-...00625220083?pt=DE_Handy_s&hash=item2eb631e9f3
Wow for that price is incredible even in USD it comes to $238.82 according to Google. The best I could find in the ebay us site was in the $400 and $550 range!
Next time I'm hunting for a phone I'll come here and ask for advice.
Also, pachuau86 if you're planning on saving to buy a new phone why don't you wait for the new Nokia Windows Phone 7? They'll kick the ass of any WP7 to date so you better wait and see what the other brands will bring to the table, its all dual core now baby.
Google Nokia windows Phone 7 since I can't posts links yet due to being a noob.
This is my first wp7 phone and it is really good. Solid to hold and very good build quality. WP7 is very good and will get better with mango. If your in the UK try the expansys website i picked mine up from there brand new sim free for £185.
I don't know about any Nokia WP7s as those are rumoured NOT to be released in North America this year or early next year anyways ...
But ... if you are interested in this phone, I have it on good authority that the same body will receive and update, which includes the latest SoC (1-1.2Ghz from what I heard), as well as a front camera and gyroscope, with a better battery life and screen, called the LG E90X (Note that the 'X' refers to a digit between 5-9 depending on location of release) ...
thanks a lot for the replies... will save up and try to get this phone
