[Q] Planning to buy... - Optimus 7 General

Hi, i have been using WM 6.5 and Android for quite a while (HTC TyTn II and LG Optimus One), i recently decided to try an WP7 phone... so Optimus 7 seems to be a good choice.
I just have one question, how many finger touches does it support?? i cant seem any info regarding this (or any info regarding this on any WP7 phone) other than it simply being listed as 'multi-touch'.
Thanks a lot... and sorry if its a stupid question but i cant seem to find the answer anywhere!!

The screen apparently supports more than 4, but the software is limited to 4 points of contact, and that is what you get with Optimus 7. There are many games in the Marketplace that demonstrate this. I must say, as a Optimus 7 owner, and having tried the other WP7 devices, the Optimus 7 probably has the most ... Optimal touch experience of them all ... HTC ones are far too sensitive.

Screen support up to 10 fingers , I don't have more fingers to try

thanks a lot... guess i will prob go with this phone.. but have to save up for a while..

I bought it unlocked on ebay for 165 euros!
http://cgi.ebay.de/LG-E900-OPTIMUS-...00625220083?pt=DE_Handy_s&hash=item2eb631e9f3

Wow for that price is incredible even in USD it comes to $238.82 according to Google. The best I could find in the ebay us site was in the $400 and $550 range!
Next time I'm hunting for a phone I'll come here and ask for advice.
Also, pachuau86 if you're planning on saving to buy a new phone why don't you wait for the new Nokia Windows Phone 7? They'll kick the ass of any WP7 to date so you better wait and see what the other brands will bring to the table, its all dual core now baby.
Google Nokia windows Phone 7 since I can't posts links yet due to being a noob.

This is my first wp7 phone and it is really good. Solid to hold and very good build quality. WP7 is very good and will get better with mango. If your in the UK try the expansys website i picked mine up from there brand new sim free for £185.

I don't know about any Nokia WP7s as those are rumoured NOT to be released in North America this year or early next year anyways ...
But ... if you are interested in this phone, I have it on good authority that the same body will receive and update, which includes the latest SoC (1-1.2Ghz from what I heard), as well as a front camera and gyroscope, with a better battery life and screen, called the LG E90X (Note that the 'X' refers to a digit between 5-9 depending on location of release) ...

thanks a lot for the replies... will save up and try to get this phone

Bye Bye Nokia,Hello Htc

After 10 years of nokias the n97 finally pushed me over the edge and i am expecting my new hd2 in the post today.Just a question about updating it.After installing the new 1.66 rom do i have to install any other htc official updates or are they all included in the new rom?
Is there a way to check for new updates on the device or do you have to check the htc site all the time?
Also whats this i read about updating the radio. What does this do?
Haha just like my story, my last Nokia was the N97 .. look what they did, they made us nokia users divert to another phone company.
Welcome aboard
Im not sure about the last question, but regarding the first, a fellow good user told me that you most likely not need the official updates, but you can check in the HTC support for the versions they support. Most of them are 1.59 or below, so in that case you dont need them
I think you need to check their support page, or the RSS feed there. Dont know if there is another way.
Hope I helped a bit.
1. First of all congrats to your decision to leave Nokia and move over to HTC - you'll never regret this, I guess...
2. Please use search-function in the future. You have only to install hotfixes that are needed for your ROM-version - so if e.g. on the HTC-page is written sth. like "needed for version <1.6" then you haven't to reinstall these hotfixes again with ROM 1.66 (installation wouldn't work anyway).
3. To check if there are new updates availabel, you have to visit HTC-website (support section) - you can put an RSS-feed onto your phone to check it also - this is my solution. Better it is to visit this thite here XDA-Developers often, and you'll get also informed and beneath this lot of feedback according the updates.
4. RADIO is the firmware for the receiver unit aso. - it is responsible for reception (GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS etc.), very important for battery consumption and also responsible for a couple of other things like sound (not sure about these other things to be honest).
Hope this helps for the beginning.

+1 here
after tons of nokias, and painful waiting 7 months o release date of n97, i said googbye to nokia.
i gues they would need to make space shuttle in a phone to get me back
For me it's the same, too. After Nokia N70 and E90 Communicator, I also went to HTC. But I had two Pocket PCs more than ten years ago (Casio Cassiopeia), so finally meeting Windows Mobile again.
Same here.. My last phone was n97.. Didnt regret after changing to this phone and i just love my HD2 more and more as time goes by..
I was a devoted Nokia man for years, until one day I saw the Touch Diamond and was overcome with lust. I had my Diamond for a while, then a HD, and now the HD2. I can't imagine ever going back to Nokia now, but I'll always be fond of them.

My story almost the same. I had some Nokias, the last one was N95 and I then I bought a HTC Touch Diamond which... I generally hated . But it had a great GPS receiver and was very small so I was using it quite a while (for a year I guess) and now I'm using HD2 and I'm very happy with it although at first I was a little bit sceptic as I wasn't happy with my Diamond. Anyway in general HD2 is a great phone and I didn;t have some irritating problems with it so I would recommend it to anybody.
Same here, After years of Nokia and Symbian.. The N97 made me Mad ..
So here im HtC HD2
And i Love the Phone..
You've all been slow, look below at how long ago I did that move
hello guys i've beeen a hard core nokia user and after 12 yrs of nokia marriage i divorced it when there was no sign of a new communicator.....
same story here. From the N97 to HD2. Best choice ever. Nokia user for about 10years, but its very doubtful that i will ever go back to Nokia again after the N97 experience. The new flagship after the N95 failed bigtime.
Add another one to the list. I was using the Nokia 5530, and I just sold it on Saturday (literally) to help finance my HD2 purchase. I'll soon join the ranks, and as my wife just said to before I saw this post, "I don't want to ever buy another Nokia phone."
I agree. Symbian drove me crazy. None of these models have enough system memory to function well enough. The N97 is a disaster.
I'm glad I found this forum, because otherwise I would not have known how customizable the HD2 really is, and the fact that it runs Windows Mobile would have caused me to shy away from it.
just settings up the new phone . I have got a major problem hope someone can help

He he this is turning in to an Ex-N97 owners convention.

Omnia 7 coming to India?

This is after a lot of search and research that I am posting this thread.
I was thinking of buying the HD7..but honestly it was overly priced. Then I hit upon the Omnia 7.
Now I live in India, Mumbai.
Was thinking if its gonna ever make it here??
Any help is greatly appreciated.
This is slightly unrelated to your post. I bought my Omnia 7 in Switzerland.
I have been on holiday in India, using my Omnia 7 --- no problems. I have it linked to my live account, in which I think I have enabled the US locale.
No problems with any of the services. I am using BSNL's 3G (Chennai circle).
Please check out with people using WP7 in India, to make sure there are no silly limitations.
I love WP7 and Omnia7 is just phenomenal. I thought HD7 was a bit too big to handle conveniently as a 'phone'.
Besk,
Karthik

Hey Karthik,
Thanx for your reply...I am wondering where you got your Omnia 7 from? Its neither available in India NOR EVEN THE USA....this is pretty strange...And my uncle is coming down from the US..so was thinking of asking him to get it for me...but again, ITS not even available there...And yes, I also agree with you...the HD7 is too big for a regular use of phone...Omnia 7 is just perfect...
Thanx again.
Hi,
As I have mentioned in my post, I bought my Omnia7 in Switzerland. Omnia 7 was released only in the UK/Europe. The US equivalent is Focus.
Focus is pretty similar to Omnia, and you might seriously want to consider it. I think Omnia looks cooler, but Focus has an SD slot to make up for . Focus is also crazy light (ppl have said it feels like a fake phone even ).
But the issue with Focus is, you may not find an unlocked version.
If you don't see yourself playing too many games, and can compromise with a ~10% speed reduction, you might want to consider the trophy (which I think is coming to India?). I was sold on the trophy, till I read about some of the slow down issues... which I think may not have mattered in the end. Of course, Omnia has a G O R G E O U S screen!!
Bottomline, try to find someone in UK (I hope they get unlocked phones there, like in Europe)

[Q] OMNIA 7 Replacement Alternative

I have had 5 replacement OMNIA 7's now and quite frankly I have given up with it!
Orange said that they would give a completely different device but I would have to wait a week for them to decide which ones they could offer me. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what sort of alternate device they would offer me, apparently it can be up to three different ones.
Thanks for any responses
What was wrong with your Omnias? Sounds weird since I haven't got any problems with my Omnia7
test the lastest rom if you have your omnia yet.
All of my OMNIA's have had the same defective screen problem. Basically the screen brightness is reduced to that of low even though it is on high, and the colors on the screen all appear to have been reduced almost like a whitewash.
I am yet to try an alternate ROM but I'm not sure if thats the issue here
Are you sure thats Omnia 7, cause the screen is its best feature, besides if you really want to change it then go blindfolded and pick up HTC Mozart7.
Sadly yes it's definitely the OMNIA 7! I don't particularly want another device I just want an OMNIA that actually works for longer than a week. Due to the fact that I'm tied into my contract with Orange there is only one other WP7 device the HTC Mozart obviously. But does anyone have any idea what other devices Orange might offer me?
Thank You for the replies

Orange seems to have Mozart, LG Optimus 7 and OMNIA7, this info is according to microsoft. Here follow the link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-gb/buy/7/phones.aspx
Strange... A few years ago I had no end of troubles with K850i's and after around 5 replacements they just offered me an alternative right away... I didn't have to wait.
I'd guess you will be offered the Mozart / Optimus 7 and probably something like the HTC Desire or an Android phone of equivalent value.
Orange have some deal with the Mozart so will want to push that if at all possible.
I forgot about the LG!
Either way I'm hopeing they offer me something worth while after all I did choose the OMNIA for its screen. Although it is Android I might enquire about the Motorola ATRIX
If you are interested in getting an android then I recommend that you ask Orange to give you XPERIA NEO. http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_neo-3734.php
Thank You I will check it out
5 devices?
You must be drop kicking them ... Seriously not being mean but if some one came into my shop after their fifth broken device id tell them to turn around.
Its not possible to have 5 defective screens in a row...

[Q] Should I buy a HD2?

Hello! I've currently got an HTC Desire and I'm not that happy with Android. I'm tired of the laggy, inconsistant and boring UI of both Sense and stock Android. I've had an iPod Touch and I've got an iPad and I'm a big fan of iOS, but I want to try something new.
I've been reading about WP7 a lot and it looks very interesting, I've also tried different WP7 phones in stores and I fell in love with the smoothness and consistant Metro UI.
The phone that I'm thinking of at the moment is the HD2, I think that it would be a good choice for me because it is able to run a various number of platforms (I like modding my phone and trying new stuff). So I've got a few questions about the phone:
The phone is almost 2 years old, is it hardware good enough to meet todays and tomorrow's requirements?
How is the screen of the HD2 compared to the Desire's (WVGA, 3,7", AMOLED)? Does multi-touch gestures work well? Is it dual-touch or does it support more than two fingers?
Is Spotify available for WP7 yet?
Are any key features missing in the WP7 port for HD2 (such as camera, headphone jack or WiFi not working?)?
What other platforms than Android, WM 6.5 and WP7 does the HD2 run? I saw that there are sections for Ubuntu and MeeGo here at XDA, are those platforms stable enough for daily use? How well does Android run?
Should I buy a used one or a new one?
How is the battery life?
What are your opinions? Would you buy a HD2 today? Opinions and recommendations about other phones are welcome as well!
Thanks in advance
1. I'd say yes. It might get a little more outdated when two core or even quad core processors roll out. One the other hand, there is no operating system that could use more power than HD2 has.
2. Screen is the weakest part of HD2, AMOLED technology is a lot better in terms of picture quality as well as power saving. I'd say it is just OK.
3. No idea.
4. No idea.
5. HD2 can currently run WM6.5, WP7 and Android - all stable and all working. Meego and Ubuntu are rather proof of concepts and not useful for daily use.
6. Now this is up to you. If you're short of money, go for used one. If you can afford a new one, get a new one.
7. Depends how much you use the phone, what operating system you're running etc. I managed to get about 4 days of standby(stock battery!) on Android with automatic internet connection and mail syncing every 30 minutes and 3G off. I consider it pretty good for a smartphone.
However, the most important thing about this phone is the number of supporters here at XDA. There are hundreds of ROMs to choose from, you can try a new one every day And well, I do not think there are many phones that can multiboot two systems(there are some that can handle different systems, but each change requires reflash).
I am a person who can afford any phone any time. If someone told me that there is a HD2 with amoled screen, quad core cpu and 4 gigs of ram and (it still can multiboot) for $2000, I'd buy it right away. Back to reality - in my opinion there is no better phone out there.
Well, it's hardware is now pretty old compared to most of the phones out there. But it still works I haven't seen any place where I'd be like oh crap I wish I had another phone this is just too slow.. Never.
Screen = Big Let Down. You won't be all that happy with the screen rest assured
Multi-touch works well but not so well in WP7. I believe it is dual touch.
Spotify is available on WP7 last I checked it will take you a spotify wp7 google search.
Meego, Ubuntu not for daily use development has as far as I remember become extremely slow.
Key feature missing in WP7 for HD2 is camera gives green tint when used with flash. And imo camera quality is never as good with android or wp7 than with WM6.5 for hd2.
Take a used one from craigslist. Should be good enough.
Battery life not as good due to the aforementioned screen and 1250 mAh battery.
But, I still personally love my HD2 and won't part with it till the development from this community stops and I honestly believe WP7 would surely work perfect on the HD2 in the near future. Peace
Thanks for the responses! The only thing that makes me doubt atm is the screen.. Really love the blacks on the Desire's AMOLED display, but I guess that I'll get used to the HD2's display.
Anyone done the jump from AMOLED/S-LCD/S-AMOLED to LCD?
Kinda.. My bro has a Galaxy S another has a S2 a friend has Sensation.. So seen many pretty nice screens must admit my hd2 looks pretty sad in front of those displays.. But, when I show them Android CM7, Sense, WP7 and all.. They all say please tell us how to do it
Go get an hd2 it will be the best thing that ever happened to you cell phone wise
I won't make another topic for the same question, so I just reply to this one. I hope it won't call as digging up...
After XDA threads answering 90% of my questions, I still have one:
I will be able to afford an HD2 in March-April 2012. That said, I don't want to end up thinking "Gosh, why did I buy it?" after 3-4 months; is this phone still able to survive another year of support here, at XDA? I don't have enough cash to buy another $400 phone after half a year, so it is quite important.
Thanks in advance.

to be honest, it is a guess at this time. i mean in 6 months from now, there might be some new amazing things on the market. i would just come back and check in 5 months or so. and nicely done, not starting a new thread!
If i were u i wont even think of getting this phone.
Ya in 6 months from not there will be more new stuff out there. So talking of the current market i think compared to other newer phones the HD2 is really good. 4.3 inch display, capability to rum multiple OS's. And it's blazing fast in wp7 and android
BUT...
Just google the number of HD2 users suffering with the same fault it has. I'm a victim of the same and i feel like dashing this crap on the floor. I'm sick and tired of this. Even after performing a mtty still it restarts.
So..
Either u have to be really like others to get a good phone without any faults or you too will be suffering like the rest of the HD2 owners. WHY TAKING THAT CHANCE? IF I WERE YOU I WOULD NOT EVEN IF IT CAN RUN 1000 OS's..
I am really happy with my HD2 & it has been faultless for me on my personal setup WM6.5.x, but if you are likely to be going Android you are better looking at newer devices that are native Android.
Most hardware failures & bugs are on those users running Multi OSs or Nand Droid/W7 .

Those of you suffering WP7 restarts/freeze etc, get yourselves a new SD Card. There's plenty of data on this in the WP7 forum.
Thanks for answering, it really means a lot to me.
Ok, time to explain my history (which is a long and complicated one):
I am 15 years old, so I just have to rely on my parents' money. I got my first mobile when I was... 9? Something like that. I remember, how everyone in the school was excited by color screens! And l was proud of having a camera, even though the quality of the photos was pretty bad. But, hey, it was a camera! In the mobile!
In 2007 I got my first "smartphone". It was Nokia 6120 classic with Symbian. But I was scared about losing the warranty, so I didn't do much with it (that is, I didn't "hack" the Symbian, which is still nothing compared to modding Android). Still, I was happy with it for 2 years.
But then comes 2009 and "touchscreen time". God, how the prices of those phones dropped then! I bought a Samsung Corby. Yeah, it was a downgrade from Symbian, but at least I was able to get used to the touchscreen. I sold it in March 2011 for an acceptable price.
And here comes the "smartphone age". I bought my Galaxy Spica in July 2011. I know, probably You haven't heard of this phone, but in Poland and Russia it is quite popular. I bought it simply because of the mods - right now it is considered "The slowest phone ever" on some Polish Android forum, but, guess what? I am happy with it. It is running CM6 right now and is currently lying on my left, charging happily.
If I'm happy - why should I replace it? Well, first of all, the battery got klilled. One day I can go through 8 lessons and the phone will still be at 100%, and next day, without even touching it - bam, drops to 52%. I know, replace the battery and so on, and so on. But it really sometimes makes me mad when I have to do a "battery reset" for the third time, because it won't unlock...
I remember how I was scared before the first root of my Spica... And it went great, start to finish! Everything goes great when You follow the guides, that's what I learned in the past few months. No phone can be compared to HD2 when it comes to modding (at least IMHO), and it gives you the "WOW" factor among your friends, hehe! Nothing better then coming to a group of people showing off their 199$ Android phone and showing them the HD2's dual-boot!
What really made me excited about the HD2 is not only a modders paradise it offers, but also the wonderful support here. Heck, the HD2 Android board has more posts than most other phones section added up! And more, and more posts are coming up everyday. I would really like to have, like, 4 smartphones in my house - Android, iPhone, WP7 and probably another Android... But I just don't have the money for it. (*blames his country for its poor wages*) I do not demand every new version of Android or WP7 being ported to HD2 (because it's just too much), but I'd be happy with, let's say, one-two next major versions of Android and the next major version of WP7.
In one sentence: I definitely enjoy modding everything, I love the big choice of ROMs available here and I just hope the development doesn't stop on Mango and Gingerbread - if it's so: HD2, here I come!
If You really read the whole story (written in a very poor English - sorry, I'm a native Polish speaker), then congrats, and I hope You will be able to answer my question: Will HD2 as a multi-OS phone satisfy my needs, which are not connected to display or dual-core, but tot the software only? And sorry for the chaotic post, I shouldn't have replied in the midnight. ^^
Get one. I broke mine and am currently looking for another HD2. I could go get the new GSII but I don't really want it.

It is a great phone & if the price is right then still a trenendous bit of kit.
The flip side : if you are not likely to want WM6.5.x or multi-boot & are paying high end price then it is not the best option.

My mum says it is quite expensive, but, hey! Many phones nowadays have similar, if not worse, specs, but they are being sold with a higher price tag, simply because "they're new".
And I do want the multi-boot and I do want to play with OSes. Actually it's my #1 reason. ^^

Buying a HD2 now?

I was wondering if buying a HD2 in 2012 would be a good choice.
I don't want to spend a lot of money and I've found some offers for the hd2 and the xperia play.
I would go for the htc hd2 but i've a lot of questions:
1-I've seen a lot of video with hd2+wp7 and colors are quite dead...it's a screen problem?
2-The activation code for wp7 is necessary?
3-Does wp7 work perfectly?
4-Is the adreno 200 too old?
5-I've seen a lot of topic about touchscreen and lcd problem, are there particular problems?
I'll add some new questions
I recently sold my HD2 and honestly, in every way possible avoid it. Yes, the last time (I had it) WP7 worked and really good at that and the community has been the best I've seen, but it's just so outdated, it's time for the crutches to be put up. I've seen the nexus s 4G, atrix, LG GX2 around that same price. The nexus has official ICS too. Well, it's your choice, but I highly advise to find an alternative. The xperia play??? Only if you are a hardcore gamer. If not, then no.
To add, the LG and atrix are both dual core.
Oh yea 2) I think you can work around not needing a code and 4) yes, it's too old. Even dual core is old now. "/
#Sent from my God given Atrix 4G
I recently bought one about two weeks ago and I'm really happy with it. I tried using windows mango it looks nice and is smooth but in my opinion I'm not a big fan of the OS so I switched over to a android rom and I love it.
as far as I know you do need an activation number to acces the marketplace in Windows
1. Yes the screen does not have full colour support so everything looks a little bland.
2. Agreed I believe there are work arounds
3. Short answer last time I checked no.
4. In my opinion that graphics processor is far too old, as I put on another thread simple games struggle to run to different degrees e.g Random Mahjong and Angry Birds. However the rest of the chip is still good for everyday uses videos etc.
5. For me they never were but people have had issues with the digitizer not sure about the LCD though.
1-I didn't noticed
2-It's good to have one. There is really nothing to be scared of, and life is so much easier with fully functional WP7
3-Still have problems with battery drain (if you perform "battery trick" it can last even 3 days in standby, but with WiFi or data usage on one day is maximum), and with camera (photos are nat so good). Other than that its great
4-YES. But in WP7 it doesn't really matter, because there are no as such demanding aps as GTA3 for android. If you want to use it under Android it is bad.
5-I dont' have such problems
HD2 is good option ONLY if you want to test different OSs WP7, Android, Ubuntu, etc..
If you want gameing device, then go for something with dual core processor and buy PS3 pad. Xperia play is also a bit old nowadays. LG GX2 is very good choice for its money.
1-actuly stuff looks better on my hd2 than on my pc moniter wich happens to be brand new lg 3d autosterio 1080p.
2-yes and its free.
3-yes it dose now!
4-idk
5-not having that problum
I realy wanted a verison trophy when wp7 came out i was with verizon for 6 years with 3 2 year contracts.
When I learned that I could buy a 2 year old hd2 used chep and off contract and put xbmods wp7 rom on it I was siked i just had to try it out and so I bought a hd2 off cregslist used for 160$ and its by far the best moble device I have ever owend some time later teh titen and nokia luma came out titen haveing a biger screen buy 2 inches and lumia haveing some other nice fetures but still those phone are 500$ & 700$ and cant do 1/2 of what the hd2 can with wp7
Unlike alot of the newer phones that have a 8mp camira the hd2 only has a 5mp camira but still take great pictures and
to make a long story short i love my hd2 so much i want to buy one for my sis.
and on top of all that im off contract and now on t-moble prepayed plan and my bills are much cheeper everymonth
finding a low monthy payment service provider was the most inportent thang to me but i also wanted a nice phone and I see the hd2 going from around 250 to even 800$ online
I got mine for a steal and its the best 160$ I ever spent
Its the most populer device hear on xda for almost 2 years running!
Im sure thare is alot more that can be sead about the hd2
Its a nice device with alot of developers supporting it!
Curently dule booting latest android and wp7 roms!
You should get one! as far as my cell phone is conserned i live in a free world Ware everyone else is in jail!
go for it
I would def recommend for a cheap phone, mine cost £100
I'm thinking of getting one hd2 myself. I could exchange an Iphone 3gs for it...
What do you think, would it be a good deal?
