I am hopeful that someone can help solve a couple of issues(bugs) that I've found on the Verizon XV6800. A lot of you guys seem very skilled in creating new ROM's and many other things. So hopefully, one or more of you will find easy solutions to these issues.
First: On the XV6800(Windows Mobile 6), under the Sounds & Notifications Settings, "Repeat" is greyed out/disabled for EVERY NOTIFICATION setting. But, on the Notification Settings for MMS Downloaded, not only is "Repeat" greyed out/disabled, but "Flashing Light" is also greyed out and disabled. Can anyone tell me how to fix this please. (see screen shot below)
Second: Is there a way to prevent the XV6800 from repeating your voice tag for a contact "through the Speakerphone".
--Example: When I say "call xxxx", the phone repeats it back LOUDLY through the speakerphone! Duh....I'm sure no one around me wants to hear this and I don't want them to hear it either! What a really dumb setup. Can anyone help? Can these things be fixed??
Thanks for your help,
Mark

is it possible to lock the SMS inbox to prevent unauthorised access at all?
Thoughts and solutions as always welcome.
Thanks
Pete
suppose it could be possible with 3th party software
but why not just put a password on the whole pda ?
it's already supported and would protect your data much more
should anybody steal the pda
hear hear
password protecting the Inbox would be very useful - and other folders for that matter.
The scenario in my case is not resolved by password protecting the whole PDA since you may wish to give someone access to the PDA - to play a game for instance. If there is no way of protecting your data beyond that then there's nothing stopping them having a nose around or doing damage (accidental or mallicous) whilst 'playing'.
I'd be interested to hear more on this. I'll have a look for 3rd party stuff in the meantime.

This is a must have 3rd party tools but still have some bug and errors
getting it to work
this is brilliant!! ...but it doesn't work.
Has anyone been able to get this program working?
I've installed the two files into: \Windows on my phone
I then run the .exe file and the program starts. I've been able to set up a password.
I've set up a new Category for contacts: Hide
and set the contact's category (whose messages are to be hidden) to: Hide
I then go to SMSHide 1.0 and select "Hide Messages" from the Messages menu and a msgbox reports that "0 messages hided succussfully".
For what it's worth, a test to see if any of my messages have been protected goes to show that they haven't. No password is required, the messages can just be accessed as normal.
Also when I turn Autohide ON, the program interface becomes inaccesible - it just shows "SMSHide v.10 " in the title bar.
You kind of worry that, being this buggy, it'll go and lock all your messages and they'll be locked out for good!!
Pity cos we really need something like this.
anyway I've posted these comments to the developer and wait on them or anyone else here who's had success getting back to me.
me either.. its not working.
Hope somebody out there who can help our predicament. this is a very important utility and I know most of PDA users are needing this. In this way we can share our PDA to our friends without fear of letting them snoop in our small secrets...
possible solution
hi there:
have you seen the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23057
somebody else started it up and I found at least one answer to the problems I mentioned. have a look
You guys must be doing some serious adultry!!! I just have another fone for the ladies! Seriously, finding sms messages from other women seems to be no 1 reason for relationship breakdown these days!
I'd like a whole seperate hidden area of files and sms on my xda, away from prying eyes?
that site was already posted. I tried it and it seems to work. The problem is, if you happen not to hear the message tone, you will not know that you have a message so you have to hide and unhide all the time for checking. You also have to set all your contacts to private and hide category.
Maybe in the future, there will be a new software that will just hide the whole things easily.
Hi People!
I simply don't know what to do. Somehow, my SMS sound disappeared -- too, there is no blinking, no vibration, nothing. can please somebody help me and somehow tell me where the error could be. it's set right in the alerts dialog, when i do a preview there, it works. but a new sms seems not to launch the alert. i remember fiddling around with the regkeys that manage the messaging accounts - maybe there is a naming error?
any help is greatly appreciated...
thanks a lot,
keep posting

Try to go through:
Start - Settings - Sounds and Notifications and then set the sound/vibartion as you like.
thanks, but ..
.. i already tried that, like a hundred times ..
the problem seems to lie elsewhere, as for example in the SMS account name.. fiddling around there may have caused this problem..
BUT i am planning doing a rom upgrade, so the problem will be gone, i think..
btw, is there a generic (HTC, german) ROM version that includes the internal gps-chip? my version: 1.16.407.2 and external rom: 1.16.407.101
Solution found on www.pocketpctweaks.com
as i pointed out the problem started after tweaking my messaging accounts. i now restored them (from a backup i intelligently did) and my sms sound is here again. the "ActiveSync" and "Hotmail" Accounts need to be there in order to have a sms notification ......
\\HKLM\\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\
this is _not_ what i call good programming ..
Does anyone know how to fix the voicemail notification on the Cingular 8525. I egt the intiial notification and it never goes away until after I chekc them, and it's annoying the hell out of me. I would also like to thank all of you for helping me out in the ppc world. I am definitely a newb and I am learning ALOT thanks to this site. One other question, I was reading wiki and what are the benefits of installing a different ROM. I constantly see that in threads and was wandering what the fuss is about. Thanks again for all your help.
Some people have found that calling yourself and leaving a message, then selecting the notification, calling the voice mail via the msg and then deleting the message fixes the immediate problem.
I have gone to Notifications/Messaging: New e-mail message, and unchecked the box "Display message on screen." But I still get a notification message on the screen whenever there is an email. How do I stop this? (I've already searched this forum and could not find the answer, although I've seen the question asked before.)
just going to bump this up i have this issue also
yup, same here!
The more annoying one for me is the SMS sent notification.
What OS/ROM are you people using? I have never had this issue with any of the stock or WM6 ROMs I've used.
As for the SMS Sent notification, there are myriad apps that you can use to disable this. SK-Tools is one, but it's not free. HTweakC also has this option, and it is free, but you need to register with the DL site in order to get it.
If you have a Reg Editor, you can set it yourself with the following excerpt from the Wiki:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings]
"SMSNoSentMsg"=dword:00000001 ->0 to enable, 1 to disable.Note ... the Wiki page I'm referring to is here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry

And it also has information about, and a link for HTweakC.

[EDIT] As an afterthought, I realized that I DO have phoneAlarm installed, and I believe that I get better control over the notifications with that tool. Maybe this is why I don't experience this issue? [/EDIT]
Pvs, thanks for your reply. I have a Cingular 8525. It has had this problem from the time of original purchase--two months ago--using the stock configuration that comes out of the box. I recently upgraded to the new ROM on the HTC website, but I am not using WM 6 or anything like that. I still get a notification message on the screen whenever there is an email, even though I have unchecked the box "Display message on screen" under Notifications/Messaging: New e-mail message.
@Tim1234: FWIW, I used Sounds & Notifications to turn my screen notification for emails off (I typically leave it on), and it worked as its supposed to. At this point, I'm not sure how to solve your (and obviously others) problems with this.
Just to make sure ... you ARE talking about the bubble that appears at the bottom of the screen, right? You are NOT referring to the icon that appears on the top command bar. If it's the icon at the top, I don't think there's a way to disable it...though I may be wrong.
FWIW, I am currently using one of the WM6 ROMs, but I don't believe that is the issue.
Maybe someone else will chime-in with some other info. Sorry I could not be more help.

Yes I am talking about the bubble that appears at the bottom of the screen.
bump.........

Have you found a solution for your question?
Ciao,
DeepThought
no I have not!
hello all,
i am looking for the registry entry (or any fix) to enable the Repeat checkbox for Voicemail Notification Alerts.
I am aware of phonealarm, but do not want to use it...
Why in the world is this option greyed out anyway!!
Thanks
I'm looking for the same thing. My old Sanyo phone repeated voice mail alerts, and I would like this on my mogul as well.
Check out Jason Langridges blog - blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan
Last month he blogged about a solution his colleague came up with for this.
Its a reg hack which enables this greyed out option.
I found it. Here it is -
http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/arch...curring-audio-notification-of-new-emails.aspx
Thanks Chris, I'll try it tonight. The comments say it doesn't work though, but I guess it's worth a shot.
I have been using Jason's fix - it did enable the checkbox, but its been hit or miss, alert working sometimes and not others...
anyone have more info?

I'm thinking it's greyed out for a reason..enabling it on mine causes mine to repeat the alarm in an infinate loop even after I've acknowledged it...finally forcing a soft reset.
