Does anyone know how to fix the voicemail notification on the Cingular 8525. I egt the intiial notification and it never goes away until after I chekc them, and it's annoying the hell out of me. I would also like to thank all of you for helping me out in the ppc world. I am definitely a newb and I am learning ALOT thanks to this site. One other question, I was reading wiki and what are the benefits of installing a different ROM. I constantly see that in threads and was wandering what the fuss is about. Thanks again for all your help.
Some people have found that calling yourself and leaving a message, then selecting the notification, calling the voice mail via the msg and then deleting the message fixes the immediate problem.

I've recently received two blank texts, the author of which is simply "Δ@", following which I promptly restarted my blackstone.
this isnt the first time i've received such a text. A little concerned, since I
read that receiving a blank text from dodgy places means someone might be
trying to hack into your phone.
Has anyone ever received similar texts before? Any advice / help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I got it a while back, but if I'm not mistaken, it was the iPhone which was vulnerable to this SMS attack.

Have you checked your Voicemail, if I remember correctly, I had this and it is your Voicemail. I think the way the voicemail icon is activated on phones is via the SMS protocol, and your phone should not show you an SMS message like that, but intercept it and show you your voicemail icon.
If you have a voicemail, read and delete it and you will probably get another text message, which is similar, to instruct the phone to delete the voicemail icon, again you shouldn't see this normally.
I am sure there is a patch to sort this out, but I haven't had any problems like this for ages, so maybe update to a newer ROM and see if it goes away.
Jason
Thanks Jason
I'll look out for voicemail in the future i think i did have some at the time.
However, I keep getting told I have voicemail waiting to be read when I don't actually have any, so its a little difficult (and annoying) determining whether I actually have voicemail or not.
As for my ROM, im using NRGZ28's latest ROM released in late December :s
Maybe its an Orange thing?

If I recall I was on Orange in the UK at the time, so I am not sure if different networks use different ways of forcing the icon to appear, and your phone does not support it. I would of thought it was something to do with the software, so the ROM is likely to be the problem, but I dont know for sure...
As I moved network, I cannot give any definites on whether my ROM would work for you either... You have not indicated your country, maybe if you advise, another person may be able to give you some assistance against that particular ROM.
Jason
I am on orange UK
I have a HTC Tytn with 6.5 (23060)
The Tytn gets the SMS strange symbols when I get Voice message
My HTC HD phone on Orange has Miri 6.5 (21876) V13
Voice messge icon works OK on this
so I would think it maybe win 6.5.3 / Orange problem
You should try calling your phone and leaving a voice message. Orange have a strange issue that I've helped people on xda with before in that if you hang up to soon after deleting voicemail the voicemail icon doesn't disappear. It could be that your phone isn't translating the sms that's sent to display the voicemail icon properly and the sms keeps being sent to you cos Orange thinks you've still got one.
1. Call yourself and leave a voicemail
2. Call you voicemail from your phone and listen to the message
3. Delete the message (option 3 I think) but wait about 5 seconds before hanging up
If you then stop recieving the sms and you're no longer told you got voicemail then great.
4. Leave yourself another message and see if you get the proper icon or a strange text
If you get the strange text then you'll need to do some research into it. I used to get it when I had a Prophet on Orange so take a look in that forum as there was a fix for it.
Guys
Hoping someone can help me out. Since I got my HD2 a few days ago, everything works fine, especially after installing lots of cabs from XDA, but since the thing has been switched on I've been getting weird text messages at random times. They'll have no content other than the "from" field will contain a small triangle and an @ sign, or sometimes it'll be an underscore like so: "[email protected]". In addition, on the RHS side in the conversation mode view for SMS, these messages will have a little picture of a SIM card above the time received. Anyone any ideas?
Thanks in advance ...

looks like someone is trying to reach you from another dimension.
By your description, it looks like someone is winking or looking at you. I wouldn't be shocked if the next text you'll get is something like this
[email protected] or
@[email protected] or
-___-
Don't be scared.

This is a voicemail message notification. You'll get another one when you clear VMs - it has a triangle I think.
+1 It's a voicemail notification!
Another one of many bugs mate, you dont get an icon on the task bar just that gobbledygook SMS
haha...thats scary.
it might be messages stored in sim card???...
Well, it depends on your operator. On mine it works fine and I get the little cassette tape icon for a voice mail, but my Tilt used to give me the text messages. Funnily enough, reading some of the taskbar threads some people were getting the right icon but had never seen it before!

LOL same problem here. Texts with just "∆@" and "[email protected]" as the title with no body are received instead of a proper missed call notification from Orange.
Any fix available to stop this occuring? Is this anything to do with the first SMS hotfix?

You can change your voicemail notification by calling your voicemail and going through the options on there. Most providers allow you to change it, but one or two only allow notification or no notification. I didn't believe this at first, but I set mine to just show a notification icon and it worked.
I recently flashed my phone with the energy rom that doesn't have any htc sense, instead comes with spb shell. The issue that I'm having is when ever I call my voicemail I get a text message like this "129 //vvm:SYNC:ev=MBU".
This is really annoying and I want to get rid of it some how. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I noticed that too.
However, I use Google Voice, so I never call my voicemail.

Its just something that shouldn't be happening. I definitely appreciate all of the work that the developers do on this site but some of the little stuff that doesn't get checked for bugs is annoying. Its almost like microsoft releaseing things even though they know there are bugs and relying on the users to point it out. Just frustrated :/
I get the same thing and I have Miri ROM. It would be nice to know how to fix it.
vvm:SYNC:ev=MBU
visual voice mail. i assume the roms you are on dont have it included.
You could perhaps hide the problem by turning off network messages, or can you turn off vvm on your t mo account? or you can probably download and install vvm as a cab. (Its certainly there in my kitchen, so i assume someone will have made it into a cab by now)
Hey guys,
As previously stated, I'm a noob, so I'll be posting some dumb questions (after searching and reading stickies, obviously...) over the next few weeks/months as I get used to the Legend (aka the JesusPhone). One of the things that sucked most about having an iPhone was the fact that there's no real community around apple products, and having people at XDA help you out is one of the best parts about WinMo/Android ownership.
My question concerns an app called SMS Popup which somebody in this forum recommended. It's great - wakes the phone on SMS, gives lots of settings and options to customise the popup that appears, etc. I'm having one really annoying problem with it though.
I've got the app set to mark the message as Read when I hit Close on the popup that appears upon receiving a new SMS. This way, when it's a short message that I don't need to reply to, I don't need to both going into the messaging app to read/delete it.
Except it doesn't work.
Whenever I try to do this - whenever I close a message, or choose to reply to it - the messaging app on my home screen has the notification badge for 1 unread message.
Has anybody else encountered this problem/could anybody suggest a solution?
Not a big deal, but kinda annoying, as I have to manually go in and either read or delete each message to make it stop reminding me that I have a message I've already read.
Cheers
Try reinstalling. If it still occurs, the problem might be in the settings or it is a bug.
Try Handcent SMS...
This is a known problem with phones that use HTC Sense UI, as HTC does not offer an API to tell the home screen icon to "refresh" itself. The message itself is still likely being marked "read" if you go into the actual messaging app.
There is an FAQ covering this on the SMS Popup google code site (search for "sms popup android faq" (sorry I can't post links as it says I'm too new).

Thanks Adam, I'll just have to get used to it
Hi!
I use the Cyanogenmod ROM, been using it since the nightlies of the 6.0-version, but one thing has been bothering me..
I don't have a full plan for data; I pay for what I use, so I have data disabled - and enables it whenever I need it.
However, when someone sends me a MMS, my phone recieves it (with a "download now"-button) like it's supposed to do, BUT! There are no way of knowing this. It doesn't notify, no sound, no flash, nothing in the notification area, I have to randomly open the app and suddenly see that I've recieved an unread message from someone..
Anyone else experiencing this? Any settings I've overseen? Thanks in advance!
Poke around in the settings for the messaging app, see what you find It could be that Android only notifies when it's downloaded the message
Thanks for tip, but I've already poked around in the settings :/ Just wondering if it's a bug, or if it's the SMS/MMS-app itself. Thanks for replying, though!
Hmmm. I don't use mms stuff, so I can't be of much more help. Sorry
