Brand new WIzard today. Upon insering a SIM I get a "Message From Network" notification which lists the three nearest STD codes. My own, and two other surrounding areas.
I'm reasonably sure this is not a carrier thing - does anyone recognise what it is and can tell me how to get rid of it? It's pops up whenever I switch the unit on.
Thanks.
click start > settings > phone > more
then take the tick off broadcast channels and it wont bother you anymore
Cheers boss - unfortunately, broadcast channels isn't checked.
Tried enabling & disabling but still getting the notifcation.
its a cell info message from the network, similar to what you can have on my old nokia phones, use windows explorer to explorer your wizard with your pc and go to my device>windows>startup and see if there is anything loading at startup that you dont recognise. Not sure how clued up you are on ppc's but if you list whats in the startup directory ,myself or someone else will let you know what they are doing. Also state what network you are on?
Yeah mate - I remember the cell info on the old Nokias.
Startup directory has:
CapNotify.lnk
elatepushservice.lnk
Init_Tray.lnk
poutlook.lnk
sddaemon.lnk
Cheers for the help.
Just noticed after switching it off and back on again, the date restes itself to Novermber 2005... Hmm.

I think elatepushservice.lmk is the culprit, remove elatepushservice.lnk, better cut it from there n paste it in other location for backup.
Cheers for the help - no joy I'm afraid.
CapNotify.lnk - wouldn't let me cut.
elatepushservice.lnk - No difference
Init_Tray.lnk - wouldn't let me cut.
poutlook.lnk - wouldn't let me cut.
sddaemon.lnk - No difference
Strange...
Look here for your date/clock reset problem. It is the internal battery. Look for explanation on how to replace by me (Nandaly - second page).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316622
regarding your other items. the elatepushservice is for direct push email. The other items are generally there for all Wizard OEM roms.
CapNotify is for activating an indicator on your screen when you are using your keyboard (tells you if you have Caps on or off and/or symbol on or off)
Init_Tray is to start the tray along the bottom of the screen with the power icon and comm manager indicator.
The reason you cannot cut some of them is that they are in the ROM memory of the phone. The others that you are able to cut are ones placed there during the customization of the phone (Extended ROM) added by the branding carrier of the phone (in your case TMo)

Hello fellows,
When there's more than one "pending" icon near the clock, such as: new message arrived, phone call missed, speakerphone ON, etc. -- they are (expectedly) replaced by one icon that looks like a bubble with some lines in it.
It's great way to see there are many notifications waiting for you. When clicked, this icon displays another row with all the constituent icons.
However, with O2 1.72.187 image (without Blackberry support as I don't need it) there is a permanent O2 icon displayed. And the worst about it is -- it is treated just like it IS one of "pending notice" icons! So if you get a text message, you don't have cute envelope icon, but you have a BUBBLE already!
Previous versions allowed to move the O2 icon (centre or left), and it didn't count as notice, so "new message", or "Missed call" icon displayed as is - and only when you had let's say "new message" AND "missed call" you used to get the "composite" bubble icon. Now you can not do anything with O2 icon (it used to display connections menu), and it's just a piece of ****e sitting there for no reason.
That issue really ticks me off as I can't instantly see on the screen - what exactly has my XDA II received! The red LED on the top right corner is very helpful to indicate waiting things, and if I could somehow make that O2 icon to NOT count into pending icons -- or may be just bump up +1 the wrap limit for that place, so it would accomodate one more icon before wrapping into bubble icon, -- I'd be a happy camper.
Can it be done via registry?
Thank you for your attention!
Speach Bubble
I have the same frustration. Hoping that some wiszzard out there will be able to help

I looked into this thing with the O2 icon. Before the 1.72 release it used to allow selection of connection and to disconnect. It was also possible to position it elsewhere. Now all that is possible is to tap it and it brings up O2 Active. It sucks..
I found the registry entry that specifies the position of the icon, but altering it is useless because when ever O2 Active starts it changes the registry entry back to its 'middle' position setting. Sort of defeats the object of having the data in the registry in the first place! Even deleting the entry in the registry is no good as O2 Active re-creates it!.
I dont have the O2 Active burtton no more, i deleted it from the startup folder in windows and it doesnt load it up at start up, but if you click O2 Active then it shows up and you have to restart the xda2 again to get rid of it...
Thank you guys for your involvement.
I tried to just stop O2 app; it only could be cancelled with End Task, and the bloody icon still sat there, only this time doing nothing.
Seeing not much practical use in that "newfangled" O2 icon -- I thought I'll rather give up that interface at all.
Thank you dcs, it looks like they really deliberately locked things up to make it linger -- breaking the good thing and achieving the opposite effect. The old O2 app icon was a) useful; b) moveable between left corner & centre and c) didn't spoil the notifications count, so I didn't mind.
So I just went to add/remove programs and scrapped both O2 apps.
Then had to change background, as even after reboot there was ugly leftover on the screen (I think the right part remained transparent, ugh :evil. Finally it is all working fine now and I see what comes to my XDA2.
Enough time spent, mine and yours. It better be changed in next versions, or will be permanently kept out of my XDA-2.
<rant>Whoever designed that change just drove me off using the O2 app. (Talk about luring new customers?) I sincerely hope someone from O2 reads all the bitter words in this thread, and passes them to people responsible for packaging new OS versions. I like O2 as company, but the current state of O2 app is an abomination. (Also lots of referenced to paid services from the menu, but lack of free services)
By losing this app, there is no way I can subscribe to any of O2 "value-added" services. I have TomTom for realtime voice "satnav" and AvantGo for my news -- all with no rolling subscription fees.</rant>

Out of interest, just selecting a different theme in the Today settings clears the display problem (after uninstall) or prevents it from happening if done before uninstalling.

May be I had selected a wrong theme, (or may be the same theme and didn't realise it), but I had to also [x] "change background" checkbox. Then I selected the bright blue Default and that was it
Edit: "Change background" has nothing to do with background problem it's actually related to adjacent Browse button.
In fact there were only 4 Today themes that had this problem, all the rest of them worked fine. I presume they were old version or something.
Glad that you managed to solve the problem. However, mine continues as I use CommonTime mNotes to interface to Lotus Notes.
So whereas I has the speach bubble permanently on the today screen (sharing the frustration that I didn't know when I had received a missed call/SMS, revceived a new note etc), I now have a permanent 'M' symbol where the speach bubble originally was.
I really just want it blank and only to come up with a speach bubble where there is something new.
How do I get rid of the 'M'?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Hi
I followed the instructions of another user and cut and paste the active program from my windows mobile 5 startup folder elsewhere. This has eradicated the frankly awful O2 Active GUI but I am left with the O2 Connections Icon in the Start Menu Bar.
I noticed there was a shortcut for connections with the same O2 icon in the startup folder. If I remove this I expect it will remove the icon (that never worked as detailed in the manual anyway) but I am worried about possible knockon effects, like loss of connectivity.
Does anybody have any experience with this?
Cheers
Sean
So, I got impatient and thought why not just give it a go. I cut and paste the connections startup item into my personal folder then did a soft reset.
Low and behold the daft none working O2 item was no longer there and has been replaced by a nice text message notification icon.
YAY.
So is that it? Am I completely de O2 Active'd?
We shall have to wait and see, suffice to say my xda is far far quicker than it was before.
Sean
Yeah, getting rid of connections from your startup just gets rid of the o2 crap, there are plenty of posts about it on this forum.
I think I have sorted the problem on the new Imate Rom update showing the battery instead of the clock in the top bar.
I removed the file "Windows\Startup\Init_Tray.exe".
Now the Battery still shows on the Today Screen - But the clock shows on all other screens.
As the clock is shown elsewhere in the Today Screen thats works for me.
I just have to wait and see if removing the Init_Tray.exe creates any problems - if anyone knows, please let me know.
As an alternative, the clock is shown with other things if you use WisBar from here http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/products.php?prod=WisBar+Advance
You can do the same thing by applying a reg hack or using Tweaks2k. You don't have to remove the init_tray.exe.
heh.. most of the people would consider the Battery vs Time issue to -be- the fact that it disappears on the Today screen. You can still configure the date/time to be displayed in other applications by simply going through the date/time configuration settings last I checked on the status of this.
Go to Control Panel/System/Clock and Alarms
Click on 'More' Tab. Select 'Display the clock on the title bar in all programs'. Click okay
It does the the same thing as what pewe mentioned, but without the hassle. LOL!! I can not believe you didn't spot that!?
Bye
Clock Disappearing On Today Screen
The problem with the built in 'show clock in status bar in all programs' is that it woeks for everything except the Today screen. You can add it back in as part of the day date plug in for the today screen, but that takes up space. I preferred the old version where the battery was in the system tray at the bottom, the clock showed at the top and you could add the clock to all other programs. Why do we have to go backwards with these ROM updates? :x
Erm... I belive the problem is to get RID of the battery on the taskbar, and add the clock there for the today screen like it used to be in the older roms... Sadly I've moved back to using an old dopod rom because of this little issue, and i'm not upgrading again till this is fixed
I have install the new ROM and find out that the Battery icon will show on the top right corner, and the time (clock) will show on the same level as the date
I did not find this anoying ??
I will think it's nice to have the Battery icon on the TOP
I'm I missing something ? Is there other catch ?
let me know
thanks
Update : I guess I get it, having the Time not in the top bar, will then bother when you move to other screen then the Home screen. You will then miss the time
hum hum, I have to think and see in a long term if that bother me after all.

I have 2 Wizards and found that the 'Clock on every page' worked on one but not the other, whereas removing the Init_tray.exe worked on both.
Put the file back on both this morning, and now they both work. Weird!!!
what if............
8) 8) What if someone uploads an older init_tray.exe from an original rom and we try that inplace of the current one?? 8) 8)
Can someone upload please and let us know the location?
csian, replacing the init_tray with an older version would likely only give the battery icon in the tray, if that is desired. personally i don't want ANY battery indicator (already use the battery indicator from Pocket Plus) but with the Imate rom, i still get the top bar battery indicator (ugh)... tried all the reg hacks, even with new values just to see how it responds, but didn't find one that removed the battery from the top bar... (sigh)
Just FYI.
So sorry

8) 8) Just thought it was worth a shot because the battery indicator in the tray was really only a link to power settings and not really an indicator. Getting rid of the current battery icon and putting the clock back in the top right corner is what I really want. 8) 8)
I noticed something while resetting my 9100. The clock doesn't disappear from the top bar. It is only covered by the battery meter it seems. It was on my screen for a minute before the battery meter showed up. THis makes me think that some program has been added that may also be able to be deleted.
How about it..............
8) 8) Anyone got an original init_tray.exe they can upload. (Someone with clock still in upper right hand corner of Today Screen) PLEASE. 8) 8)

Here it's and I hope it will help you to get the time back in old style!!!
This file is from T Mobile NL version!
init_tray.exe from Tmobile US MDA original ship rom
here's the init_tray from my Tmobile MDA US (prior to updating to latest kjam).
hopefully someone has some success getting that battery meter off! might scan my older registry from the Tmobile rom to see if perhaps its an entry that was added by tmobile's customizations perhaps?
peace
Edit/Note: just copied init_tray.exe from the US ship rom and all it did was add the battery meter into the tray area and the battery on top stayed.. but that migth be because init_tray.exe is in the rom and still runs... also, even by just disabling init_tray.exe from starting up (i moved the init_tray.lnk from teh startup folder and soft reset but still had the battery meter but didn't have the tray icons showing my wifi connection..) so init_tray might not be the one.. but i could be wrong too.. hehe.. still a new w/wm5 and my mda..
Thanks guy's
8) 8) Ya I tried the older init_tray files and it didn't work for me either. It must be in the registry or a dll somewhere boy I wish we could figure this out. If anyone has a registry dump for a wizard with the clock still at the top I would like to compare to my current registry and see if I can find the culprit. 8) 8)
'd get you one, but I still haven't gotten around to getting a nice clean hard reset.. so mine's littered with crap from botched installs and unclean uninstalls. If anybody else wants to try it - TRE (Tascal Registry Edit) will export the registry to a file.
Not sure if this has been posted in the Wizard forums before but i just found this in the Universal forums and now have a new Today plugin that displays the status of my Wireless connections. It seems to work for everything except GPRS
Just add the keys below to the Wizards registry.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Wireless"]
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004

There is a photo in the Universal post but here's a screenshot of my K-JAM. The items only seem to activate on the Today screen when you enable the Particualr Wireless mode. As WiFi is disabled as soon as i connect ActiveSync i enabled WiFi in Comm Manager and quickly took the screenshot before WiFi was turned off, hence the unavailable status.
Note you cannot interact with this plugin. it is purely display only.
CHeerts,
Thanks puckster shows up on the list of the items list/today but not on the screen. I assume that is cuz I have no wifi connection right

When I added the entry, I had to go into the Today setting and uncheck, then re-check "Wireless" which made it appear. At a minimum you should see a bluetooth symbol that says on or off.
If you still can't get it to show up, double check the dword entries you created.
Btw - thanks for bringing this over to the Wizard forum Puckster..it's a handy little Today item.
Mine displays Carrier / Flight Mode & Bluetooth as well as WiFi status.
If WiFi is disabled it does not display on the today plugin however my Bluetooth is always displayed there even when turned off. The Carrier (Vodafone in my case) changes to Flight Mode when you enable it.
I would possibly re-check the registry keys. Also i just remembered i did add 2 extra keys to my registry that werent mentioned in the Universal thread.
I have attached a registry export of the key i created on my K-JAM so maybe you could use this as template as it works on mine.
NOTE: All of the keys are decimal dword entries except DLL which is a string.
Chris
Thanks for your help and I have rechecked everything and all seems ok. Phm reg editor can't seem to import the reg file you gave me ;(
It's nice to have the indicators...but I wish they didn't require the real estate of a whole additional Today bar. I would love to find a way to put indicators like that in the icon tray at the bottom (just above the Contacts soft key image).
this is exactly what i wanted much appreciated.
no go here, but I'm on an old, old ROM
Thanx Puckster, worked like a charm
Exactly what i was lookinf for ty again

Same on the Wizard or should I check potential differences in the reg?

Thanks.

ammar you are the best man, I have tried all other methods. yours only worked. God bless you.
I ran ammar's cab. The Wireless box appears in my Today screen, and I tried checking and unchecking it, tried soft resets, even tried a re-install of the cab file. I have a T-Mobile MDA, and I have SPB Today Plus and PHM Traylaunch running. I'm using the black theme.
Anything else I might try?

Looks like all the usual links have gone now except poutlook - which many say can be deleted anyhow. They must be using another initiation method - have you checked \windows to see if you have init_tray.exe if you have try a trick i use with clear storage. Make a text file with any text in does not matter - save as init_tray.txt then rename to init_tray.exe and paste it into windows using total commander. Result init_tray.exe will not work. Works with clearstorage.exe and I get no error message. If you do get an error message replace with an exe that does nothing - I hope you get my drift
EDIT Possibly you could replace it with dcinobar.exe or inclose mobile.exe i.e. rename the exe's and then remove the startup link to the app as this app will be started instead of init_tray.exe
Actually I thought of something similar to that already, but guess what... no init_tray.lnk or .exe and no wifiinit.lnk or .exe anywhere on the device according to resco explorer search. Thank you for the great idea though. Do you or anyone else have any other ideas?
Maybe something to do with it?

i'm about 200 to $250 short from getting one feel free to donate! I go to This ebay posting every day and just DROOOL over it... again, donations welcome..
better yet, i got a deal! For the amount of that device with shipping which is $779 + $29.99 which comes out to $829.99, (lets just make it $830 flat) I'll throw in my working wizard which has 2 scruffs on the front(comes complete with box, i-mate warranty, headset, case.. basicly everything in the box except the extra stylus), a wizard with a damaged screen, an xbox 360 premium. (just the xbox360 itself, no power supply, no hard drive, no controller (i'll give u a couple demo discs)) AND.... a like new Sony PSP with like 3 or 4 games (i maybe played the thing 10 times since i bought it, its been nesting in its oem case for god knows how long.)

Intellisync 7.0 and Tytn
Hi,
Since I've installed this new version of this software I've been using for a long time now each time I soft reset my device I got stuck on the windows mobile blue background. I can get pass it!!!
Now the good news is via activsync I can still connect to my device and explore it. I can also remove the software (intellisync) and this will let me regain access to my device.
The problem is I can't live without Intellisync so I end up reinstalling it evrytime.
The problem is link (I guess) to the security screen which replaces the default winm 5 one.
Questions :
1 where can I find a step-by-step description of the boot process ?
2 What is the name of the security app object ?
3 Who could help ???
Many Thanks
REMOVE bottom tray on 8525 (mobile 5)
I seen lots of articles about how to remove or turn off bottom tray, but none work. I have similar problem as this user: No intTRay of anykind is found, my startup folder contents are similar to his. I've removed the individual icons like battery, etc, but I need to get rid of the animated today icon, the the Animated Today program puts on the tray, so the tray will disappear...
any ideas?
I may be wrong but the last time I checked, the 8525(TyTN) is not a Wizard.
