Not sure if this has been posted in the Wizard forums before but i just found this in the Universal forums and now have a new Today plugin that displays the status of my Wireless connections. It seems to work for everything except GPRS
Just add the keys below to the Wizards registry.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Wireless"]
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004
For the full info on this, check the Universal forum here:

Chris

There is a photo in the Universal post but here's a screenshot of my K-JAM. The items only seem to activate on the Today screen when you enable the Particualr Wireless mode. As WiFi is disabled as soon as i connect ActiveSync i enabled WiFi in Comm Manager and quickly took the screenshot before WiFi was turned off, hence the unavailable status.
Note you cannot interact with this plugin. it is purely display only.
CHeerts,
Thanks puckster shows up on the list of the items list/today but not on the screen. I assume that is cuz I have no wifi connection right

When I added the entry, I had to go into the Today setting and uncheck, then re-check "Wireless" which made it appear. At a minimum you should see a bluetooth symbol that says on or off.
If you still can't get it to show up, double check the dword entries you created.
Btw - thanks for bringing this over to the Wizard forum Puckster..it's a handy little Today item.
Mine displays Carrier / Flight Mode & Bluetooth as well as WiFi status.
If WiFi is disabled it does not display on the today plugin however my Bluetooth is always displayed there even when turned off. The Carrier (Vodafone in my case) changes to Flight Mode when you enable it.
I would possibly re-check the registry keys. Also i just remembered i did add 2 extra keys to my registry that werent mentioned in the Universal thread.
I have attached a registry export of the key i created on my K-JAM so maybe you could use this as template as it works on mine.
NOTE: All of the keys are decimal dword entries except DLL which is a string.
Chris
Thanks for your help and I have rechecked everything and all seems ok. Phm reg editor can't seem to import the reg file you gave me ;(
It's nice to have the indicators...but I wish they didn't require the real estate of a whole additional Today bar. I would love to find a way to put indicators like that in the icon tray at the bottom (just above the Contacts soft key image).
this is exactly what i wanted much appreciated.
no go here, but I'm on an old, old ROM
Thanx Puckster, worked like a charm
Exactly what i was lookinf for ty again

which answers "meschle"'s question - assuming he's still on 1.6.7.1

Have the same on Himalaya
Hi,
I running WM5 on my Himalaya and I have it by default. However, when I tap in the area, it takes me to the Comm Manager or Wireless Manager.
Same on the Wizard or should I check potential differences in the reg?
Cheers,
Hal.
yes. please check the differences. When I click on it, it does nothing.
Thanks.
Having a friend check on his PPC 6700 once he finishes the upgrade.

ammar you are the best man, I have tried all other methods. yours only worked. God bless you.
I ran ammar's cab. The Wireless box appears in my Today screen, and I tried checking and unchecking it, tried soft resets, even tried a re-install of the cab file. I have a T-Mobile MDA, and I have SPB Today Plus and PHM Traylaunch running. I'm using the black theme.
Anything else I might try?

did a search on this once and if it's here, sorry i missed it:
what is the reg-locale for ensuring the Bluetooth System-Tray Icon is enabled to launch when bt is active. since performing the following reg-edits, it no longer appears.
Increasing font cache and screen performance:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE"
Change "limit" from "8192" (default) to "16384"
Increase general performance:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\"
Change "CacheSize" value from "0" to "4096".
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0x1000(4096)"
Change "EnableCache" value to "1"
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\"
Change "ReplStoreCacheSize" value to "4096"
Enable Cleartype in landscape mode:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings]
Change "OffOnRotation" to “0”
also... i did this one and then reversed it since i learned (after the fact) that cingular 8125 is already b/g:
Enable 802.11g:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Assign a value of 1 to dot11SupportedRateMask
Assign a value of 8 to dot11SupportedRateMaskG
thanks to anyone making time to reply!
can someone confirm that their actually is a bt icon that resides in the system tray (top bar) when bt is enabled???
maybe it was a fluke that i actually saw it there for a brief period today?
maybe i'm seeing things?
I have not seen that icon in WM5. But I would like to have it there.
Oh its there alright. In fact, in the online help somewhere on my 8125 it actually lists the icons and their descriptions. One of them is the BT icon.
Its beyond my why there isn't an application that can indicate with a headset icon to notify you if your phone is paired to a BT earpiece. Someone had posted once PhoneAlarm did it, but alas. It does no such thing.
If anyone else knows of a program that will tell you if you're currently connected to a BT device, please speak now!
Ok, found out where the icon is listed. Go to the main WM5 online help on the device and go to Personalizing your device>Over of the Today screen>What do these status icons indicate?
Towards the bottom you'll see the icon... IT EXISTS IT EXISTS!... sigh
it does because today... it appeared for a moment. it played peek-a-boo while device was bugging-out. glad to know i wasn't seeing things. i wonder if having the clock reside in the sys-tray has anything to do with it???
i have found this application http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1319 to at least show when the BT is on. It also tries to connect to a headset when there is an incoming/outgoing call. Not having a headset myself, I have not been able to test this function, but bt does turn on on a ring and turn off when I end the call.
i got this cab from somewhere here in the forum which shows the bt icon on the system tray, to allow you switch on/off bluetooth, i beleive it was designed for the universal but it works fine with my kjam (wizard).

I tried it on my k-jam but unfortunatelly... nada
I downloaded the cab file to my pc through the link, then copied the file to my devise and run the installation therein...
Am i missing something?
Weird
I installed this, and nothing happened, so I deleted the program, using "remove program" from Settings/System, and it started working. Go figure.

Hi,
Is it possible to create a shortcut to the today screen?
And while I'm at it, is there a way to create a shortcut to the (active sync) BT connection that connect my device to my desktop?
TIA,
Cheers
Cacti
there is already a shortcut to the today screen-
start--> today!
PHM Key tools will do this, I imagine the built in button settings will do this, and I've got an app called TodayButton that might help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27357&highlight=todaybutton
V
Thanks vijay,
It's no shortcut but does exactly what I want
Any chance your will ever make a VJBlueSync version that is WM5 compatible?
Cheers
Cacti
Why do you need to install an application?
Pressing the red phone key will take you to the Today screen from anywhere.
le_cactus: TodayButton isn't even VJTodayButton - one of my earliest apps, but I like it... if you really need a shortcut to Today screen, do check out PHM Tools etc. TodayButton will be updated one day.
VJBlueSync - I released it as is just because I'd done the work, but am certainly not satisfied with it. I'm going to have to directly interact with the Bluetooth ActiveSync menu extension, which will take time I don't have right now, but hopefully, yes, I'll fix it and then try to make it compatible..
V
Excelent!
Where would we be without you
As for today, I want the Button 5 to switch to the today screen. On that screen there is a link to the Comm Manager so I got everything I wanted. Maybe PHM Tools can do what I want too, but this is working as it should.
@talkingbollox: I just extracted the TodayButton.exe with CabManager and copied it to my device. No need to install it if you don't want to.
Cheers,
Cacti
LOL
Just found the ButtonManager has a link to the today screen....
Why am I always looking for a difficult way to do things when there is an easy way?!?!?!
Anyways, cheerz,

Looks like all the usual links have gone now except poutlook - which many say can be deleted anyhow. They must be using another initiation method - have you checked \windows to see if you have init_tray.exe if you have try a trick i use with clear storage. Make a text file with any text in does not matter - save as init_tray.txt then rename to init_tray.exe and paste it into windows using total commander. Result init_tray.exe will not work. Works with clearstorage.exe and I get no error message. If you do get an error message replace with an exe that does nothing - I hope you get my drift
EDIT Possibly you could replace it with dcinobar.exe or inclose mobile.exe i.e. rename the exe's and then remove the startup link to the app as this app will be started instead of init_tray.exe
Actually I thought of something similar to that already, but guess what... no init_tray.lnk or .exe and no wifiinit.lnk or .exe anywhere on the device according to resco explorer search. Thank you for the great idea though. Do you or anyone else have any other ideas?
Maybe something to do with it?

You are awesome! Do you have a TyTn or is that for other phones also?
Just received my TyTN today.
The first thing I did was figure out how to get rid of those tray icons!
Actually, if you look at the following post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41968) you will find many hacks that are not restricted to the Universal but work on all WM5 machines, inluding the TyTN. I am using a few of the myself on my TyTN
i'm about 200 to $250 short from getting one feel free to donate! I go to This ebay posting every day and just DROOOL over it... again, donations welcome..
better yet, i got a deal! For the amount of that device with shipping which is $779 + $29.99 which comes out to $829.99, (lets just make it $830 flat) I'll throw in my working wizard which has 2 scruffs on the front(comes complete with box, i-mate warranty, headset, case.. basicly everything in the box except the extra stylus), a wizard with a damaged screen, an xbox 360 premium. (just the xbox360 itself, no power supply, no hard drive, no controller (i'll give u a couple demo discs)) AND.... a like new Sony PSP with like 3 or 4 games (i maybe played the thing 10 times since i bought it, its been nesting in its oem case for god knows how long.)
PM me if you'll take me up on that offer

Intellisync 7.0 and Tytn
Hi,
Since I've installed this new version of this software I've been using for a long time now each time I soft reset my device I got stuck on the windows mobile blue background. I can get pass it!!!
Now the good news is via activsync I can still connect to my device and explore it. I can also remove the software (intellisync) and this will let me regain access to my device.
The problem is I can't live without Intellisync so I end up reinstalling it evrytime.
The problem is link (I guess) to the security screen which replaces the default winm 5 one.
Questions :
1 where can I find a step-by-step description of the boot process ?
2 What is the name of the security app object ?
3 Who could help ???
Many Thanks
REMOVE bottom tray on 8525 (mobile 5)
I seen lots of articles about how to remove or turn off bottom tray, but none work. I have similar problem as this user: No intTRay of anykind is found, my startup folder contents are similar to his. I've removed the individual icons like battery, etc, but I need to get rid of the animated today icon, the the Animated Today program puts on the tray, so the tray will disappear...
any ideas?
I may be wrong but the last time I checked, the 8525(TyTN) is not a Wizard.

Yep, you are correct. The Tytn is the big brother to the Wizard, which is known as the 8125, not the 8525.

Thnx a lot man. i've been thinking that this thing is impossibla on my cingular 8525. but U proved that there are still people who know good methods on how to work w/ registry!
Files include the default WM6 alarm wavs, the original ringers including oldphone, Schap's purple theme (thanks!), the "no sounds" wavs to stop those menu clicks, Smartskey copied to \Program Files (but not activated), startclean to \Startup to remove program history and the green welcomhead.95 splash screen.
Reg tweaks include..
Notifications - removed "Connection Established" and set "Incoming Mail" to Alarm3
Sounds - disable annoying beeps when changing call volume or dropped calls
Inbox - disabled account selector, empty deleted items set to manual, return to inbox when deleting.
Pocket IE - temp files, history and cookies stored on storage card, Cleartype and search set to google.
Sleuth's google tweak for Windows Live Search
Screen size set to Largest, ClearType enabled including Landscape.
TimeZones tab displayed and enabled.
Battery removed from Today screen and replaced with clock and clock displayed on all screens.
Backlight changed from 30 seconds to 1 minute
Also, glyphcache is set at 32768, file system cache untouched, IR Beam turned off.
Cingular keyboard settings
This isn't for everyone, just wanted to share!

edited 10-30-2007 DP_WM6 with Vibrate is a slightly modified WM6 cab with AT&T Splash removed, Security Policies modified for unsigned cabs and RAPI access (Mobile Registry Editor won't give a "access denied", HSDPA icon (when available) and also, with Schaps' permision, his neat looking com manager vibrate file. Schaps Vibrate is renamed to allow installing this into a ROM that already has Vibrate. Delete either my Schaps_TrayIcon_MannerMode or TrayIcon_MannerMode from \Windows\Startup. BTIcon, latest XMMobiResetter and Landscape Cleartype are included. This is the same cab as the DP_WM6 with Vibrate & Batteryguage without the RandomAccess and Batterguage.

Also, Schaps Vibrate is renamed to allow installing this into a ROM that already has Vibrate. Delete either my Schaps_TrayIcon_MannerMode or TrayIcon_MannerMode from \Windows\Startup.
Also included is a barebones registry and clean 3G cab, no files except for the clean 3g file.

My findings for settings
Nice job !
In between multiple flahes of various roms I found a big relief in skipping the first windows dialogs with date, mail, touch calibration etc. by adding a blank file "welcome.not" in the root of the storage card and add the touch settings [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH\CalibrationData] in my own settings cab.
It works very well for me, so I thought I'd share it.

Then all you need is a today screen shortcut to his prog with the right suffix. cLaunch should do it if you want it on the today screen instead of the tray, or even create a drop-down menu controlled by a hard key with something like WM5NewMenu. All these are free, but I'm sure the developers would love a donation!
Theres a registry hack on ppcgeeks that enables that and wifi on your today screen if I find it i'll post it
BT on today-you find it???

I have been searching for this for a while now. I have started using phone weaver and turned everything else off but BT. See cab and thumbnail. In thumbnail look in bottom right corner of today screen for activated BT! I would like this to happen without running Phone weaver, seems to take up a little more memory than I would like for this type of app, but it works great and I am happy with it. Just what I wanted, if I could actually get rid of the few little icons to the left of the BT I would be VERY happy thats my main gripe here...
Cheers!
Efcomm.cab is what you need

ciclebt.cab.... and assigne to hardware button. or use as app via applauncher programs.
You can use btIO-mini (see attached file). In this zip there are 2 files.
I made this for 2 reasons. The first is to have a quick toggle via HTC Home integration, and the second ist to be able to turn on/off BT via voice command.
1. bluetooth.lnk -> put this in your \windows\startmenu\program files\ folder
2. btIO-mini.exe put this in \program files\btIO\
3. Make a shortcut from your favorite launcher today-plugin to btIO-mini.exe
Make a softreset, after that you can use voice command to turn on/off bluetooth.
There is no visible indication, like pop-up or message box that tells you which state BT is. The program just looks in which state BT is and if it's off it turns BT on in connectable (invisible) mode, and if it's on it simly turns BT off and exits.
So this is not exactly what you asked since it is not a today plugin but maybe it will help you.
Cheers
EDIT: Be warned! The program icon is ****ing ugly. Will have to find a better one...
Thank you guys for your response ....
But I'm asking about the plugin in the attached picture ...
