TyTn Annoyance!!! - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I am trying to remove the bottom bar that is normally removed by deleting wifiinit.lnk and init_tray.lnk from startup...problem is they arent in startup. And when looking at the remove programs list there are no programs. Any suggestions?

Tell us what you have in windows\startup and post copies of the link files if possible, then some bright spark in the forum may be able to work it out for you

Looks like all the usual links have gone now except poutlook - which many say can be deleted anyhow. They must be using another initiation method - have you checked \windows to see if you have init_tray.exe if you have try a trick i use with clear storage. Make a text file with any text in does not matter - save as init_tray.txt then rename to init_tray.exe and paste it into windows using total commander. Result init_tray.exe will not work. Works with clearstorage.exe and I get no error message. If you do get an error message replace with an exe that does nothing - I hope you get my drift
EDIT Possibly you could replace it with dcinobar.exe or inclose mobile.exe i.e. rename the exe's and then remove the startup link to the app as this app will be started instead of init_tray.exe

Actually I thought of something similar to that already, but guess what... no init_tray.lnk or .exe and no wifiinit.lnk or .exe anywhere on the device according to resco explorer search. Thank you for the great idea though. Do you or anyone else have any other ideas?

Maybe something to do with it?

TyTN now uses services
The bottom tray icons can be removed by making the following registry changes...
1. To remove the Battery Icon:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Power]
"ShowIcon"=dword:00000000
2. To remove the Wireless Manager Icon:
Delete the registry key...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\WirelessMgr]
3. Soft Reset
Tray Icons should now be gone.

You are awesome! Do you have a TyTn or is that for other phones also?

Just received my TyTN today.
The first thing I did was figure out how to get rid of those tray icons!

Actually, if you look at the following post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41968) you will find many hacks that are not restricted to the Universal but work on all WM5 machines, inluding the TyTN. I am using a few of the myself on my TyTN

i'm about 200 to $250 short from getting one feel free to donate! I go to This ebay posting every day and just DROOOL over it... again, donations welcome..
better yet, i got a deal! For the amount of that device with shipping which is $779 + $29.99 which comes out to $829.99, (lets just make it $830 flat) I'll throw in my working wizard which has 2 scruffs on the front(comes complete with box, i-mate warranty, headset, case.. basicly everything in the box except the extra stylus), a wizard with a damaged screen, an xbox 360 premium. (just the xbox360 itself, no power supply, no hard drive, no controller (i'll give u a couple demo discs)) AND.... a like new Sony PSP with like 3 or 4 games (i maybe played the thing 10 times since i bought it, its been nesting in its oem case for god knows how long.)
PM me if you'll take me up on that offer

I don't think that just removing the icons removes that space that the bar takes up, does it?

Looking at the "HIDEWIRELESSMGRICON.cab" in that link, it shows that you can disable the Wireless Manager Icon by simply changing a single registry entry instead of deleting the whole WirelessMgr key.

Intellisync 7.0 and Tytn
Hi,
Since I've installed this new version of this software I've been using for a long time now each time I soft reset my device I got stuck on the windows mobile blue background. I can get pass it!!!
Now the good news is via activsync I can still connect to my device and explore it. I can also remove the software (intellisync) and this will let me regain access to my device.
The problem is I can't live without Intellisync so I end up reinstalling it evrytime.
The problem is link (I guess) to the security screen which replaces the default winm 5 one.
Questions :
1 where can I find a step-by-step description of the boot process ?
2 What is the name of the security app object ?
3 Who could help ???
Many Thanks

REMOVE bottom tray on 8525 (mobile 5)
I seen lots of articles about how to remove or turn off bottom tray, but none work. I have similar problem as this user: No intTRay of anykind is found, my startup folder contents are similar to his. I've removed the individual icons like battery, etc, but I need to get rid of the animated today icon, the the Animated Today program puts on the tray, so the tray will disappear...
any ideas?

I may be wrong but the last time I checked, the 8525(TyTN) is not a Wizard.

Yep, you are correct. The Tytn is the big brother to the Wizard, which is known as the 8125, not the 8525.

O2 User Interface

Hi,
I have a sim-free XDA II which as it happens is on 02. How can I get rid of that User Interface though - I really hate it, and want to remove it?
Can anybody help please?
Thanks
Rich
goto ad remove programs and remove anything o2 related, then soft reset. Change the dialer skin then all your left with is the boot screens and the o2 logo on the case
I'd recommend chaning the dialer skin back to the default before uninstalling o2 active; there are some images stored in dlls that are difficult to find, but can be changed via the phone skinning applet in o2 active.
The correct order (IMHO that is), is as follows...
1 - Firstly, while you still have the Active interface, use the menu item on the navigation bar, I think it might be listed as 'view' to go in and change the dialler skin to the default one.
2 - Then soft reset.
3 - Next up, now go into File Explorer on either the phone, or via ActiveSync, and go to the Windows/Startup folder, and delete the shortcut for "Active"
4 - Reboot again, to get the phone to load without Active running.
5 - Go into Settings > System > Remove Programs, and remove the Active app, the V2R stff, and O2 Xmail if you never use it. You will get warnings that some files or folders still remain - no problem, this gets resolved later...
6 - Another soft reset.
7 - Now, go into File Explorer again, to the Windows Folder itself, and delete the folder for the V2R stuff.
8 - Change your Today theme to something better looking, do a re-boot, and voila...
If I have missed anything that I think of, I will come back and editt this post, but that's it for now...
EDIT - even if you change the dialler skin back to default before removing the O2 stuff, you will find a strange quirk with the talk/end button, whereby even with the default skin, after ending a call, the old flat red O2 style button will display.
This can be resolved by downloading the XDA Phone Skin Chooser application available from DesignLab (do a google), and then setting the skin to use (even though you might already be using it) to the Default Skin, and then resetting the device. This is the only way I have encountered, other than hard fiddling with hard to find .dll's, to get ALL the buttons to use the default skin, and thus have a proper 'pressed in' appearance when touched.
XDA Phone Skin Chooser will work on my xda2 ?

Better than just uninstalling it?
Will removing it in this way stop all o2 related programs reinstalling after a hard reset?
Not sure. I've never tried to uninstall everything.

No, not by a long shot.
As the installation files etc, are stored in 'hidden' extended rom, and all a Hard Reset does is clear your phone, and then set about running and installing any files in the extended rom.
To remove it so that it is not installed after hard reset, is kind of achievable, but only if you know what you are doing.
You would have to use the Extended Rom Unlock tool on this site, to unhide and unlock your extended ROM, then you would have to remove any of the CAB install files from this folder for the O2 stuff you don't want (and its up to you to know what's what).
And then you would need to edit the config.txt file that 'calls' all of these installation routines, so that it no longer references any that you have deleted.
Then you could lock and hide the extended rom.
Thus, on a hard reset then, only the stuff you have left gets installed.

Today Plugin - Wireless (Universal tweak, works on Wizard)

Not sure if this has been posted in the Wizard forums before but i just found this in the Universal forums and now have a new Today plugin that displays the status of my Wireless connections. It seems to work for everything except GPRS
Just add the keys below to the Wizards registry.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Wireless"]
"DLL"="netui.dll"
"Order"=dword:00000000
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"Type"=dword:00000004

There is a photo in the Universal post but here's a screenshot of my K-JAM. The items only seem to activate on the Today screen when you enable the Particualr Wireless mode. As WiFi is disabled as soon as i connect ActiveSync i enabled WiFi in Comm Manager and quickly took the screenshot before WiFi was turned off, hence the unavailable status.
Note you cannot interact with this plugin. it is purely display only.
CHeerts,
Thanks puckster shows up on the list of the items list/today but not on the screen. I assume that is cuz I have no wifi connection right

When I added the entry, I had to go into the Today setting and uncheck, then re-check "Wireless" which made it appear. At a minimum you should see a bluetooth symbol that says on or off.
If you still can't get it to show up, double check the dword entries you created.
Btw - thanks for bringing this over to the Wizard forum Puckster..it's a handy little Today item.
Mine displays Carrier / Flight Mode & Bluetooth as well as WiFi status.
If WiFi is disabled it does not display on the today plugin however my Bluetooth is always displayed there even when turned off. The Carrier (Vodafone in my case) changes to Flight Mode when you enable it.
I would possibly re-check the registry keys. Also i just remembered i did add 2 extra keys to my registry that werent mentioned in the Universal thread.
I have attached a registry export of the key i created on my K-JAM so maybe you could use this as template as it works on mine.
NOTE: All of the keys are decimal dword entries except DLL which is a string.
Chris
Thanks for your help and I have rechecked everything and all seems ok. Phm reg editor can't seem to import the reg file you gave me ;(
It's nice to have the indicators...but I wish they didn't require the real estate of a whole additional Today bar. I would love to find a way to put indicators like that in the icon tray at the bottom (just above the Contacts soft key image).
this is exactly what i wanted much appreciated.
no go here, but I'm on an old, old ROM
Thanx Puckster, worked like a charm
Exactly what i was lookinf for ty again

Hi,
I running WM5 on my Himalaya and I have it by default. However, when I tap in the area, it takes me to the Comm Manager or Wireless Manager.
Same on the Wizard or should I check potential differences in the reg?

Anything else I might try?

Remove System Tray From Today Screen

Hi,
Does anybody know how I can get rid of the system tray from my XDA Exec's Today Screen?
I have read in other posts about removing the link to it from the "/windows/startup" folder, but there is no such link on my device.
Is there a way of doing it through modifying a registry key or something?
Any help greatly appreciated,
Thankyou,
Paul.
To remove the system tray you need to remove the items in it. If you remove them all the tray will dissapear. The registry keys you need to change are detailed in the wiki.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry
Many thanks for the speedy reply DanT, that is exactly what I needed.
Now, does anybody know how to stop Pocket Informant putting an icon in the system tray (and thereby making the system tray visible again) when it is running?
Cheers, Paul.
This is EXACTLY what I am trying to find out about the Pocket Informant Icon. I hate the taskbar. Anyone? Thanks
The system tray will show running services that elect to display an icon. Pocket Informant registers as a service, rather than a program. The same is true for applications like TomTom or iGO.
The only thing you can do is not run Pocket nformant.
So PI Doesn't let you disable the icon? This really sucks...
Of course it does.
Settings:
Either Full list
- or -
Interface (second icon) - Advanced
Enable System Tray Icon
I'm using 2005, Rev 5, Build 568.
GREAT Find. It works and the PI Tray icon is no longer there! Thanks a bunch!!
I remember Vijay created an app that actually hides the TOP and BOTTOM taskbar for our Universal, so we don't have to remove any of the icons on the BOTTOM taskbar to make it disappear, thus making our screens bigger. Here is a link to that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...postorder=asc&highlight=alpha+togle&start=200
I tried downloading it from this post, but it seemed he took it off. Anyway I was wondering if anyone still have it?
cktlcmd: apologies, I never removed the link, but moved from a Windows server to a linux server some time back, and now all urls are case sensitve. Generally, if you find any broken links from me, just convert to lower case and it should be fine.

VJToggleToday II (for WM5) doesn't hide the tray yet. I've not had time to work on it for a while (new baby, move house, go to Modaco last weekend, find new job etc), but hopefully I'll be able to make some progress on it again, finally.

Lower task bar

I want to remove the battery8 icon and connection manager from the lower taskbar so did a search and came up with this thread

So I use my trusty total commander, go to HKLM, go to the services directory but then don't see anything resembling ShowIcon or WirelessMgr. What am I missing here?
BTW, I have a Cing 8125 with Summitters 2.3 test2.

Hi
as already told, you can remove Init_tray.lnk from startup. but be aware - this will make slight problems with software, which places icon in tray (CardExport, Pocket GPS Pro etc).
in addition you could gain more place by eliminating lower bar (with contacts and calender). they will be still accesible through soft-buttons, but will not take place on today screen.
i prefer dciNoBar
http://www.google.ru/search?hl=ru&q=dcinobar&lr=
(sorry, some links are in russian, but i think you will have no problems with finding download link).
if you like the result - you may add this program to startup folder so it will restart automatically after softreset.

Thanks for the updated file.
Find enclosed a screen capture program - you can assign to a hard key.
through settings\buttons
Its only drawback is that it saves in bmp format
EDIT version 0.02 does not seem to work so well - on my device - the soft keys often don't seem to work, i only got them to work once - I go back to the other version.
No soft key buttons
I have put dcinobar into a cab for easier installation.
Copy cab onto device, click on cab, install to device and then soft reset.
VJToggleToday
For those using dcinobar - I have tried Vjtoggletoday and would have to say it works better. You can remove soft keys only, soft keys and start bar or startbar only - have it just the way you like it. Does not have the glitch dcinobar has where you need to open and shut the keyboard
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27331
download here http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
Thanks vijay!

Wm6 System Tray modification

I would like to know please if it is possible to change the Tray shortcuts like Removing the battery icon or modiying it . I know that Tray launcher can add application to tray but it cannot remove the default ones . If someone would guide me on HOW to do it i'll be thankful
Tray icons reg settings.
"dword:00000000" - disable, "dword:00000001" - enable
Power icon
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\Power]
"ShowIcon"=dword:00000000
Rotation icon
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\Rotation]
"EnableTray"=dword:00000000
And wireless icon
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\WirelessMgr]
"Keep"=dword:00000000
Use WIKI and search

Dang, it's busted for me.
I get a DirectoryNotFoundException when I launch it and I can't seem to find the reason for it.
Worked nicely for me, thanks!
It also works nicely for me. However, I am looking for a way to disable the System Tray and so far, nothing. Have tried most of the reg hacks mentioned here and run into a brick wall as my Dell Axim x51v doesn´t have those reg entries (?!?!?!)
All I want to do is remove the WiFi & BT icons so that the system tray will close. Any ideas folks?
That is because your device uses different drivers for it. However it should not be too hard to find the correct registry entries for your device. Try playing with entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\ dir.
Thanks Wexx. Even with the extended ROM visible I only get as far as "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\" before I lose my way. What really *isses me off is that I HAD managed it a while back but cant for the life of me remember how!!!!
Anyway, thanks!
