Access storage card from wifi? - Networking

All,
I have setup a WiFi router on my PDA and want to connect a WiFi camera to it. When pictures are taken I want to be able to store them on the PDA.
I have successfully got two PDA's connected by the router.
I can do this with a laptop but I need to be able to map some form of drive to my PDA.
Can I do this?
Thanks,
Sam

install resco explorer and map a network drive, within resco you should then be able to see the drive via wifi.

Thanks for your suggestion but I think that this is going the other way than I need to go.
I may have found my solution as I can run an FTP server on the PDA and the camera can do an autosend via FTP client to the IP of the PDA FTP server.
Not ideal but at least it is a start.
The Rescoe approach I thought would only allow me to connect TO a destination and not share my Storage Card out. Am I right?
Thanks for taking the time and interest, I was beginning to despair that anyone would respond at all,
Kind Regards,
Sam.

The only thing I have found so far is the FTP route.
I was using mocha FTP server and it's default set for anonymous login.

I haven't found anything other than that.

How to set up a WiFi network?

Hi,
I have a WiFi Netgear DG834GT 108 Mbps Router. No problem with internet access...but I would like to share files with my PC. How can I do? What SW should I need on my JJ and hoe to set router and JJ both to get them work?
THX so much for any help!
the easiest way is to use something like Resco File Explorer, an advanced version of the bundled file exploroer in WM5.
It costs about 20 dollars i believe.
Once installed, map your network drive to your home network and it should see it and file transfer will then be possible, as long as your shared folders are correct etc, as per any network

Thx for your reply,
I just want to use Resco File Explorer plug in called "My Network"...but it doesn't map any drive. I also have tried to change JJ setting in "configure network Adapters/My network card connects to" from "the internet" to "Work", but coming back to RescoExpl. and trying to Map Drive option, it didn't find anything once again.
Please help me with config if you can.
THX a lot!
ok, you have resco file explorer, so open it up, hold your styli on the My Network tab on left, and select map drive. A new window will open as it searches for your home network/pc shared foler etc. if it fails to find it like that, check you 'Hive' PC's name and make sure you have a folder selected to Share. Try that and let me know. (PS make sure wifi is on first on both exec and router!)
Thank you very much I DID IT!
Well Done!!! Thats great glad to help, now enjoy streaming your music and videos to your exec whilst in the bath/garden/sofa!!
My good friend...
can you help me to let my JasJar print via WiFi??? In other words, is it possible to launch a print from JasJar via WiFi, by shareing my PC printer?
Am I asking too much?

Hey hey!
aha! The only way i have ever done it unfortunatley is through terminal services client. So, open say, a word document from either your server PC or on your pocket PC, and save back to the shared on your desktop on your server PC and then via Terminal Services remote desktop and open the doc from your JJ screen and send to print from you server PC!
Long winded I know, anyone else got a better solution?
Hope that helps!
Uhm..I still have not tried your solution...but do you think there is any third party software that can do it, simply shareing printer via WiFi?
ill have a look, never really had a need myself, but ill have a look around, might be a good thing! Ill post if i find anything ok
Ok, thx...I'll take a look around too. I thought it would be useful for example if you receive an email on jasjar and you should print it to have it like a document...without further steps, directly from JJ...
HP has printer drivers for PPC!
They even support some Canon printers..
uhm..I have found Print Pocket CE, but it doesn't support WM2005 Office files, and PrintBoy...but I don't' know if it is compatible...
Any suggestion?

Accessing Laptop from Cingular 8125 via Wifi !

Hi All,
Its been a mystery to get this working. I just upgraded my Cingular 8125 to the officieal AKU 2.2 Rom from Cingular. Before that i tried a couple of products like V-Mobile Network browser, NetUse, Pockt Hosts etc and nothing helped me access my laptop from my Cingular 8125. Then i was trying out FilePoint Exchange and it works but doesn't allow two way transfer of iles as i wanted. Then i uninstalled it from my Laptop & PDA and BOOOOM.. I could setup File shares using Resco File Explorer and V-Mobile network Brower on my Wizard. I didn't do anything different.
Now after upgrading to the new ROM the sharing no longer works. I have tried the same trick on installing and uninstalling filepoint but of no use. Has anyone been able to get this working.
My laptop has a Default workgroup and using NetUse and V-Mobile Network Explorer i have made that workgroup as the default workgroup of wizard. Also using pockt hosts i have setup the Hostname and IP mapping. Still it doesn't work. Can someone please help me please please please......
Cheers

well no neo replied but i was able to figure it out on my own.. lemme know if someone needs it..

I don't NEED it right this second, but it would be nice to know in case I do in the future. Could you tell us what you did?
Well you need a couple of programs as i mentioned in my 1st post. After that you need to change the settings on your card to "Connect to Work instead of internet". also please be sure there are no proxy settings on your Connection settings. Do add your laptop as a host with hostname & ip mapping. I thik you shouldn't have any problems loking up your laptop with Resco explorer or Netuse.

File Sharing over a Network

Does anybody how i could access my Pocket PC from my PC over the network. I could do it vice versa through Resco but i can't do Pocket PC from PC nor Pocket PC to Pocket PC. Any ideas? I would like it to happen just how the PC does it, with no major add-ons. I don't want to have to deal with VNC, FTP, etc. So if you know, i'd really like to know the answer. Thanks
I was looking for the same thing and haven't been able to find anything.
(I know you said u didn't want to use FTP)
So far the only thing I have been able to find for this is an FTP solution.

I can access the local network from the phone, but apparently there is no SMB server available for Wm6
Why can't you just use the explorer function of ActiveSync?

There are multiple reasons for wanting to access your device from the network. I myself am using multiple machines and would like to drag and drop files from my phone without having to get a bluetooth dongle and install active sync on every one of those machines.
If anyone has setup a smb server for wm6 i'd love to know, also if anyone has any other recommendations for a good ftp server that mocha one doesn't run in the background properly and the bottom toolbar for it stays on my today screen.
Not exactly what you're after, but I've seen a web server for WinMo around somewhere...
Or maybe something along the lines of a VNC client?
Yea, there are reasons for the networking thing. I have several devices on the network and i would life to get a NAS device. I don't want to go to the trouble of setting up ftp/vnc. Mapping the device using Resco works GREAT. For some reason, my laptop can't find my Tilt when i search for devices on the network and i was thinking maybe it was because it didn't have the same workgroup name?
useful for sure
Assuming you're on the LAN with WiFi, what happens when you port-scan your device's IP?
Not sure what you mean by port-scan but when i go to file explorer on my laptop and type \\ip of tilt, it gives me some error. I'm really trying to look into this and most advice is using vnc and another program which i don't want.

I don't think you're understanding when i said wm6 doesn't have a SMB server running.
Basically, it isn't running the microsoft networking services to access the file shares. You wont get it to work unless you get some sort of SMB daemon(server) for the phone, which to my knowledge doesn't exist.
look up SMB in wikipedia and u will understand what im talking about.
If using Resco to map shares, will you be able to play media (music, movies) over the wlan then, or will it not be fast enough?
I'm assuming that mediaplayer in wm6 won't have a problem playing from shares...or am I wrong?
/Pilot1
I kind of got this resolved. Not the way i really wanted it, but now i use Pocket Controller Enterprise and it does this. Really nice features, i could connect to anybody in the world, just need their host name.
Doesn't the desktop version of total commander do this? The only problem is the desktop version isn't free...

File transfer using WiFi (WLAN) - is it possible??

Hi everyone.
After searching through the forums, I couldn't get any satisfactory answer.
1) I have THD and Elfin - both WM devices. My question here is, how can I transfer files ( like Fotos, M$ office Documents, Music etc. ) using WiFi or to be precise WLAN? I do not wish to use Wireless internet to send files....I mean to say, without using any thrid wireless device, how can I enable file sharing between these two devices??
I have checked out Resco file explorer and Total Commander. None of them provide option of FTP over WLAN/WiFi.
2) Similarly, how can I transfer files between my WiFi enabled Laptop and THD/Elfin???
Is there any setting to be changed in existing devices, any 3rd party application?? or is it a call for Developers?
Big Thanks Ahead.

I preffer FTP protocol as there are many clients on Windows/Linux. On my blackstone I use Mocha FTP Server (freeware). Total Commander CE does support FTP (only as a client). Transfer rates are rather slow.

Thanks Guys....that was really quick. Just 1 question though - does this method solves my first problem - file sharing between two WM6/6.1 devices using WiFi ???
Thanks Again.

Well yeah, you can browse to a network share with e.g. Total Commander. So it should work once set up properly. Going to try this myself!!
Pardon me if I'm asking for too much.....can we have something like VoIP or to be precise, a radio communicator using such 'WiFi/WLAN between 2 WM devices'? It will be fun to communicate with friends in a 'trucker' style within WiFi range - 10-4 ?

Dude this one dosent seems to be working with WM 6 (for my Elfin) [at least the link says so ] Can you please confirm?
Thanks ahead
True... I cannot install it on my blackstone...
Yes you can....I have installed it on my Blackstone and me Elfin too (after upgrading Elfin to 6.1). And it works.
However, I am still not able to transfer files (using WLAN) between my Elfin and blackstone. Any ideas on that??
Thanks Ahead
Hi guys,
I am extreamly happy to say that i have been able to share files from one windows mobile to another windows mobile that too at the speed of up 450kbps.
i had been trying to do this for atleast 2.5 months with no luck(u may check the related topics, nobody had a idea, Even using xda, google, bing, yahoo, altavista found that nobody has done it before...) but yesterday i made it to work the way i wanted to.
All you need to do is create a adhoc connection(e.g P2P) and download FTP server (Yes your mobile will act as a FTP server) and FTP client.
For FTP server download mochasoft and for FTP Client download resco.
**Once you install resco 2008, go to menu-->options-->addins--> then download ftp plugging(and it will make resco to work as a ftp client)
Mobile A
Start--->settings-->connections-->add new ->name it p2p-->select the option "this is a device-to-device connection(adhoc)...once it is done, turn on wifi on Mobile B it will detect this connections, connect to it.....Now two mobiles are connected with each other via wifi(Without router).....Till this point you can find it in google.
Now to share files open mocha soft on Mobile A(It will show that it is "online" with a specific IP address(Note down this ip address), Anonymous login will be on but preferabaly create a user name (File--->settings--> Add[*give it a read/write permission]) and the password.
Then decide for yourself what exactly you wanna share with the other mobile, in this example i am going to share my SD CARD. Go to file -->settings--> other--> and in the "Login Folder:" put in "\\storage card"
Once that's done open up resco ftp on Mobile B. Go to My ftp locations-->New ftp session--Give a name to ftp session (like abcd), In the host type in the ip address address that you noted down earlier--> let the port 21-->Login:ut in the username that you created-->Password: put in the password
and Hey there you go!!!, you will have the Sd Card of Mobile A and you will be working on it as if it is in your own mobile..
....Cont...
On mobile A moccha will notify you that a user has logged on to your server. You can use all FTP commands on mochasoft.
I downloaded the 700Mb movie which was stored in my frnds mobile while we were having beer and it got downloaded at the speed of 450kbps(it started off with 350kbps and was fluctuating from 380 to 450kbps), Just before doing this i tried to copy a 10mb file using bluetooth and resco showed the speed 20kbps........
So next time when you go out to meet your frnds you can transfer all their stuff at the lightning speed via WIFI file sharing......
Good Luck!!
If i got to settings connetions i can only create a modem or VPN connection..nothing with ad hoc..what am i missing?
If I remember correctly, you set up an adhoc network as if you were to enter a custom network with a hidden ssid. You enable wifi and go to the screen where it shows the available networks. There you can add a new network and tick this is an adhoc connection.
Also, since adhoc connections have no dhcp server, it is best to work with fixed ip addresses.

Wifi send recieve files

Does anyone knows can i send and recieve files over wifi like the iphone. My phone is a htc prophet.
not generic way iphones are very closed platforms
if you can find a program which does it and is available for both iphones and wm then yes
otherwise you can use dropbox or livedrive or gmail and using the internet as middle station
so does anyone knows where to find such a program.
Google it and you will gett the path
do you mean datatransfer over wifi without being connected to the internet?
yes to send files from one phone to other over wifi without being connected to internet
WiFi Remote Access will solve your purpose.

I think you can...
Lets assume, PPC1 has been configured with WiFi Remote Access.
Create an ad-hoc Open WiFi network from PPC2.
Connect PPC1 to this network.
Turn on WiFi Remote Access.
The PPC1 behaves as a server.
Open a Browser on PPC2.
Try opening the server address (as displayed on WiFi Remote Access Interface on PPC1. This is device specific).
A page should open.
Perform the password authentication on both devices, as will be prompted.
Try downloading the file from yor PPC1, the way you download usually through your browser on PPC2.
Its technically possible.
I don't have two PPCs with me to try this.
But, technically speaking, it should run flawless.
But, again you need lots of RAM on both the devices, specially on PPC2.
But, you must have a bit experience to use it properly.
And, only using it can help you know it!!!
Isn't that?
So please Use it, then reply back.
And, if this works, it can be used as a two-way protocol also.
Best of Luck guys.
today i tried it and it works perfect i transfer files much more faster than with bluetooth thanks for your help
