[18 August 08] SmartPhone Wars 2008: Specs, camparision Thread and poll. - XPERIA X1 General

I saw that there was like 20 post on XDA that had to do with either how good or bad Xperia, Diamond, Raphael or iPhone 3G were. So i thought of starting a thread that would, basically layout a camparision of all the major comtendors of the SmartPhones War 2008. If you have a preference towards any of these phones or would like to add more information to the thread pr just comments, go ahead or just drop by and say why you like the phone you picked or something..
And ya, if you voted for Others, then please reply in a post of which phone, specifically did you vote for.
And by the way, Mods, if this thread belongs in another forum, then feel free to move it.
Some people are really stuck between phones and just can decide, so i thought Customer Satisfaction could become a deciding issue, so here you go. HTC isn't in the list, sorry about that and just remember just cause somebody else didn't like it, doesn't mean you have to feel the same way.

What does it have over everybody else?
Even with all the buzz about the Diamond, there's really isn't anything that they Diamond has that's unique or better than everybody else, except the TouchFlo 3d INTERFACE, which the Touch Pro also has.
When can you officially get it? Q3 2008 for Europe and Asia, Late 2008 for US
What it's missing?
The Touch Diamond, like the iPhone lacks a micro-SD card slot, this makes it an undesired product for people who want to have more than 4GB of storage on their phone and the flexibility of a MicroSD card. Big bumper, this was one of the iPhone family's biggest downfalls, now the Touch Diamond shares it. Another downfall that the Diamond shares with the iPhone is the lack of a physical keyboard, this has been a problem with every phone in the Touch series with the exception of Pro and Dual. The keyboard is probably the biggest problem with the Diamond and makes it very Buissness and Texters repelant.

HTC Touch Pro (Raphael)
The HTC Touch Pro or Raphael is basically a Diamond with a some give and takes like keyboard and lesser ROM, etc. Read on for details.
Official Website: http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=49518
Alternate Names: T-Mobile MDA IV, HTC Tytn III and HTC Raphael

*Note: Because there isn't an official predecessor to this phone, we'll consider it to be the HTC Kaiser or ATT Tilt
Built-In Accelerometer
OS Upgrade from WM 6.0 to WM 6.1
UI Upgrade from Orignal Touchflo to TouchFlo 3D
Screen resolution upgrade from QVGA Screen to VGA Screen
Increased ROM from 256 MB to 512 MB
Increased RAM from 128 MB to 288 MB
Upgraded software for HTC applications
New Web browser Included, upgrade for P.I.E 6.0 to Opera Mobile 9.5
Included HTC TV-out
Data Speeds update from 3.6 Mbps to 7.2 Mbps
QWERTY Keyboard changed from 4 rows to 5 rows.
More powefull processor from 400mhz to 528 mhz
What does it have over everybody else?
The Touch Pro, with a 288 MB, has more RAM than any other phone in this war, this can be a big selling point for people who wanna' multi(over)-task their phones. The TF3D interface is also a much-awaited and usefull software.
When can you officially get it? Q3 2008 for Europe and Asia
What it's Missing?
The Touch Pro includes a Keyboard over Touch Diamond but Touch Pro, lacks the extra 4 GB of ROM that the Diamond includes. This is a major bumper since the iPhone and several other competitors include upto 16 GB of ROM, while all the Touch Pro has is 512 MB.

touch pro
im voting for the touch pro, it has all the spacs of the diamond, traded the 4gb storage for a sweet micro sd slot and added a full keyboard!!! cant go wrong with that

Apple iPhone 3G
The next phone in contender is Windows Mobile community's most hated and most American teenagers' most desired phone: The iPhone 3G

3G Support, upgrade from EDGE
Third-Party Application support (Big One)
Flushed head phone jack
"Dramatically" Improved Audio Quality
Improvements to the body materials

Multi-Language support
What does it have over everybody else?
The iPhone 3G, just like it's predecessor features a 3.5 inch screen, which is bigger than anybody else amongst the competition, big feature for those who wanna' use it as a Multimedia and Internet device. Also the iPhone, arguably, features the easiest to use, UI which makes it more desirable for people who want a smartphone but don't really want to spend a lot of time on customization etc.
The Omnia also is tied with the iPhone when it comes to internal storage, with both of them offering 8 or 16 Gigs of storage, unparreled by anybody else.
When can you officially get it? July 11, 2008
What it's missing?(Limitations)
Physical Keyboard
Micro-SD Card Slot
MMS Capabilities
Video Recording
Copy/Paste
Several other software related limitations
Has to be bought with a expensive contract

Sony Xperia X1

Arc slider instead of the Tilt.
Data Speeds update from 3.6 Mbps to 7.2 Mbps
More powefull processor from 400mhz to 528 mhz
What does it have over everybody else?
The Xperia has the best resolution screen out of all the reviewed phones, with a 800 by 640 screen it features an unrivaled screen resolution prefect for watching movies or browsing the web, overall Look and Feel will also be better with a higher quality screen.
It also features a Arc slider design with will make the screen more easily viewable when the sliding keyboard is in use.
When can you officially get it? Mid September for US (Unlocked)
What it's Missing?
The Xperia X1, like the Touch Pro lacks a respectable amount of internal storage, with only 512 MB it makes a very weak case against iPhone's 8 and 16GB or the Diamond's 4GB.
The Xperia, like most of the phones with a physical keyboard, is not very "Slim", so if you do care about your being silm and pocket fittable then Xperia loses the battle to phone like Diamond, Omnia and iPhone.

Samsung Omnia
A lot of people have shown enthusiasm about this phone on the thread, sorry for the long time it took to put up the specs put here it is. Samsung Omnia
Website: http://www.samsungomnia.com
Alternate Names: Samsung i900 and ATT i907
Manufacturer: Samsung Inc.
Predecessor: Samsung i830
Operating System: Windows Mobile Professional 6.1
Screen Resolution: 240-by-400-Pixels WQGA Screen

Processor Marwell 624 Mhz
Camera: 5 MP with geotaging, auto focus, image stabilizer, face detection etc etc...
GPS Included
User Interface TouchViz UI
Data HSDPA 7.2
Major Improvements over predecessor
*NOTE: I'm not aware of any official predecessors of this phone but chronologically i830 was the last one in line, name wise, so we'll consider that as the Omnia's predecessor
OS Upgrade from WM 2003 SE to WM 6.1
Resolution upgrade from QVGA to WQVGA
ROM(Internal storage) upgrade from 128 MB to 16 or 8 GB.
Data upgrade from EV-DO to HSDPA 7.2
Increased Physical screen size from 2.8'' to 3.2''
UI change from Standard WM Interface toTouchViz UI
Weight depreciation
Slimmer and Sleeker Design
Wi-Fi included
Included Accelerometer (or some other means of Auto-Rotation)
Processor upgrade from Intel 520 MHz to Marwell 624 Mhz
What does it have over everybody else?
The Omnia is tied with the Blackberry Bold for the most powerful processor with a 624 Mhz Marwell.
The Omnia also features a 5 MP camera, which is by far the winner when it comes to Camera resolution.
The Omnia also is tied with the iPhone when it comes to internal storage, with both of them offering 8 or 16 Gigs of storage, unparreled by anybody else.
When Can you get officially get it? No Official Word yet.
What It's missing(lacks)?
The Samsung Omnia has the least resolution screen out of all the phones in SmartPhone wars 2008, this is a major bumper and a shame that a 3.2 inch screen gets lesser quality than a 2.8'' screen, and this means that the picture compared to the Xperia will be 1/2 as good.
Another major feature the Omnia misses out on is a Physical QWERTY keyboard, this is something that it's predecessors all had but i900 fails to inherit.
And there are also reports of the Omnia, not being a full touchscreen phone but uses some sensors, this is a super setback and can pausibly be a navigational problem.
The Omnia, unlike the Diamond and Touch Pro, lacks a magnetic stylus infact it lacks a stylus in general, some people consider this a drawback, since some find a stylus more comfortable than finger.

BlackBerry Bold (9000)
Official Website: http://www.blackberry.com/blackberrybold/
Alternate Names: Blackberry 9000
Manufacturer:Research In Motion (RIM)
Predecessor: Blackberry 8830 (chronologically)
Operating System: Blackberry OS 4.6
Dimensions :4.5" tall x 2.6" wide x 0.5" deep
Processor 624MHz Intel PXA270/Marvell Tavor PXA930 processor (reports differ)
Camera: 2 MP with flash
GPS Included
User Interface (New) Blackberry UI
Data HSDPA 3.6
Screen Size ???????
Screen Resolution 480 by 320 Pixels HVGA
Major Improvements over predecessor
OS Upgrade from BB OS 4.2 to BB OS 4.6
New Blackberry UI
Screen resolution doubled from QVGA Screen to HVGA Screen
Software updates for RIM applications
More powefull processor from 312 MHz to 624 MHz
What does it have over everybody else?
The Bold is tied with the Omnia for the most powerful processor with a 624 Mhz Marwell.
And eventough it's screen is only HVGA, it looks great on a it smaller physical size, so good that CNET called it the best looking screen ever on a cell phone.
When can you officially get it? Summer 2008
What it's Missing?
This is, according to many, the biggest bumper in the Bold, lack of a touchscreen, this closes the door to a lot of functionality and possibilities otherwise present in touchscreen phones.
The Bold, like the Touch Pro lacks a respectable amount of internal storage, with only 512 MB it makes a very weak case against iPhone's 8 and 16GB or the Diamond's 4GB. The Bold infact has the least amount of internal storage of all the major 08 smart phones.
The Blackberry Bold also includes a front keyboard, widely considered as a eyesore, this also means that it has the smallest screen size of all the major 08 smartphones, big time bumper.

those phones with a full keyboard in the front like that never seem to get that popular outside of usa and blackbarry country
personaly i think it's an eyesore

Samsung Omnia
I voted for the Samsung Omnia: http://samsungomnia.com/
Notice the speed of this device in opening applications from youtube videos. The screen may not be as responsive as we like, as it takes 2 to 3 taps for an application to open, but the processor speed makes up for it. If you are to compare it with the speed of the SE Xperia, it just blows it away. The Xperia needs MAJOR improvement in speed, it would have been better if they put in a 624 MHz processor in it. It is so disappointing to see such a nice device crawling like that in opening applications.

eventough i didn't vote for it, the Omnia does have it's stregnths, like the 5 MP camera and the real powerfull proccesor. Sucks for me, it's CDMA and not availble in the US. By the way, both SE X1 and Omnia, descriptions are coming up, currently reaserching more about Omnia.

touch PRO!
- keyboard
- SDcard Slot - what the hell shall i do with internal 4GB if i can get 32GB via SDHC??!!!!

really, do you have a link to this????

In both the Touch Pro, and X1 reviews, you said the bad points were that neitehr could stand up to the iPhone's 16GB, or even the Diamond's 4GB.
For me though, the thing is, you can get an 8GB card for less than £20, so for £20, you nto only have removable, but a larger amount of memory than the Diamond. Plus, I dont need anywhere near 16GB of the iPhone, because I have an iPod.
Thats why I voted X1 and Touch Pro, I'm really torn between the two.

ya, i know what you mean, and that's why i also said in the Diamond and iPhone reviews that they did'nt have a microsd card slot and that was a very weak point on their part, plus not every body had an iPod(I don't). I personally didn't vote for any of the phones with the huge internal storage, beacuse they didn't have a mc slot.

key boards
id go with any with a keyboard and definitly not the iphone apple sucks for programming, and it may be thicker for a keyboard but atleas then u can actuall use all programs instead of just special touch screen programs that have buttons on the scren then u can use ur keyboard for things like emulators and is alot faster for typing and still has touch screen so yeah, and why do u need a massive 16g storage anyways u can just get unlimite with sd slots,

Harvard Professor Warns of Apple's iPhone Strategy
I haven't used any of the phones listed, but have been a long-time advocate of the WM platform. In my years, I've seen many PDAs come and go - Sharp's Wizard, HP's 100/200LX, Psion, and the like. And at this point, it looks to me like the Palm OS is dead. So when I read this in CIO Insight, it didn't surprise me at all:
http://www.cioinsight.com/c/a/Strategy/New-iPhone-Danger/
Many people lust after the iPhone, but Jonathan Zittrain sees danger in the device. Zittrain, a professor at Harvard Law School and co-founder of its Berkman Center for Internet and Society, worries that closed appliances like the iPhone and walled gardens like Facebook will stifle the creativity that has fueled the development of the Internet. Tools such as PCs and the Net itself, which are open by nature and allow people to hack and tinker, are “generative,” he says—capable of spinning off new capabilities from unexpected directions. Tightly controlled devices and services—not so much.

HTC Wizard: early photos and specs [ 02:00 ]
Source: http://www.pocketpcitalia.com/
The web site Pocket PC Italia has posted early photos and specs of HTC Wizard communicator, which is positioned to replace HTC Magician(the model known as T-Mobile MD Compact, I-Mate Jam or QTek S100 depending on the operator). The communicator is powered by Windows Mobile 5.0. Its QWERTY-keyboard is pulled out from one side in an unusual manner. Besides HTC Wizard has stereo speakers and a 2.1-megapixel camera with the flash. As this info appeared before the official release, the specs can still be changed.
The specs of HTC Wizard:
* GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
* EDGE
* Processor OMAP 850 by Texas Instruments
* Memory - 128 MB ROM, 64 MB RAM
* Screen – 2.8” TFT, QVGA
* Interface - Mini USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11b and IrDA
* Expansion slot for Mini SD cards
That'll be a shame if it only has a MiniSD hole. I'm sure the 4 & 8GB SD cards will start being available when the Wizard is released. You would have though 128MB too.
Oh well, fingers crossed
Here is the actual link -> http://www.pocketpcitalia.com/cms3/templates/PPC-NEWS.ASP?articleid=2222&zoneid=1
The Processoer seams nice:
http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wt...00&path=templatedata/cm/product/data/omap_850
Hope it also uses the complete 802.11a/b/g Functions and not only b.
The chip has also USB-Host!
Both together with Windows Mobile 5.0 and 128MB Rom would be enough for me to switch from my MDA compact to this baby.
But would prefer it without keyboard...
Not sure about the processor - max speed of 200MHz puts me off.
The IPAQ 6340 has a similar Processor (OMAP1510) also with only 200MHz.
In the OMAP1510 is a ARM925 integrated
In the OMAP850 its a ARM926
Only found this benchmarks:
http://www.ppcreviews.net/news_8130.html
But the OMAP1510 runs only at 168MHz so [email protected] should be a bit faster
XScale MHz != OMAP MHz

Ti seems to be pushing this mode of thinking, after all the processor has multiple cores dedicated to separate functions.
However in real life situations, OMAP MHz are exactly XScale MHz, look at the benchmarks. You won't be running FPSCE on OMAP any time soon. Just because it has separate cores for DSP doesn't mean that other devices do their radio DSP in software on the main processor, I can't think of one that does. The only special thing that the OMAP can do is parallel video/audio decoding, but then who runs something processor intensive at the same time as watching video? A 400MHz XScale makes a better job of it in S/W, and is not tied to specific codecs; plus many video chipsets/cores offer some form of video helper functions in hardware too (although it seems certain chipset manufacturers don't want developers to use the features )
The only advantage I can see for OMAP is the cost to manufacture, which of course isn't passed on to us consumers...
rough release date
How long do they usually take to release these things after the public find out about them?
Another link
Here's another link I found on the Italian website. This should also be the new HTC phone, but doesn't look exactly as the previous posted link?!? (By the way I don't speak Italian. So can't really understand anything else than HTC and the specs.) :?

It's a real pitty Google doesn't have a Norwegian to English converter!
How about a few details Oystein. How does it compare with the Magician and have the buttons been moved to better locations (camera, recorded and 'other' (above the volume slider). I need to know!!!!!!!

I've been walking around with one in my pocket for a few days, it feels kind of plastic, and the keyboard does not slide out in a nicely straight way, it can easily go crooked.
putting it in your pocket always gets it half slid out.
messing up the auto screen switch between landscape/portrait.
and it feels slow.
...
looked inside, it is actually just like the typhoon/sp3 smartphone, same rom layout, and same type of protections.
there is also a smartphone model coming out later this year, that is the same device, but as a smartphone. no touch screen, phone keyboard. 240x320 screen, with wifi.
that, for a smartphone is a really nice device.

I would better think about waiting for the Toshiba TG01! It has a 1GHz Snapdragon Processor and a 4.1inch screen!!!
You can see some preview videos on yout...! The video playback is extremely smooth and programs are starting right after clicking on it.
The TG01 also has a special screen from the television branch for a really good quality!
I´ll sell my Touch Hd next week on ebay and on 29.June or 30.June I´ll buy the Toshiba TG01 exclusive at the German O2 shop.
Ok the homescreen panel is not so beautiful but I am using the SPB Mobile Shell 3 so thats no problem for me
does anyone actually know what the battery life is like on the tg01, that is one of my major concerns.
The processor will make a difference, but the main reason for me to buy the Omnia 2 is the camera.
You won't have Touchflo anymore (at least for some time) but the Samsung software seems to be pretty good, perhaps even better than Touchflo (though I'm not a fan of cube interfaces).
I think the Omnia 2 will be the perfect phone for me with the better camera, a bit more speed and good battery life.

I had already a pre-selling version of the white tg01 in my hands (damn is this a big device compared to my HD and iphone but has as half as the thickness of the HD!!!) but of course I wasn´t able to test the battery life. But I think it´ll be good because you can choose in the options menu of toshiba that the phone should itself automaticaly slow down the procesor if there is not much speed needed and the new screen should also use less battery life (so the man at the o2 store told me that with the screen so I don´t know if it´s real^^)
Does anyone knows any better facts about it?
very impressive processor speed, but how bout the ROM and RAM size. So far I have yet to see any device that matches HD's 512MB ROM and 288MB RAM (other than HTC own Window Mobile range). It may not be relevant but to me, I feel somehow that RAM/ROM play some part too..
I am also considering the Omnia 2. I like the faster processor and AMOLED display, which in theory is much better than HD, especially in outdoor.
However, there is no mention of its RAM or ROM. There is internal storage of 2 - 16GB but not sure if this is the same as ROM.
Also, HTC qualcom is supported by Coreplayer. Not sure if the Samsung processor will be. I know frame rate might not be a problem but if the hardware is not supported, picture quality will suffer.
I am concerned with the build quality of HTC HD as I have to service mine only after two months. A search on the net suggested there are a number of HD users with hardware problems also.
I just hope Samsung mobile phones have better quality.

i think that the type of the processor also is important not only its speed [like computer processors we have two processors have same speed but one acts faster than the other it depends how it is made and the compatibility of the programs with it

Rom and Ram size is nearly the same! 512MB Rom and 256MB RAM. (I´m talking about the Toshiba TG01
So I´ll wait till it comes out on the 29th this month in germany and then I´ll buy it...
Hey I found someting really interesting: The Acer M900!
What do you think about this device???
PocketNow said the acer felt cheap, and i think it has less memory than the HD, which is a bummer. The only upside about it are US 3g bands.
acer's soft ware sucks and no thing is like htc even the partially good samsung omnia 2

Did you see the videos of TouchWiz 2.0? Looks like it goes a lot deeper than TouchFlo. I think the Omnia II could be a lot better than HTC's phones.
Ok I´ll forget the acer...80MB Ram
So I´ll buy the Toshiba TG01 when it´s available in Germany at the 29.06. and than I will see how good it is. If it´s not good enough I can also sell it somewhere and buy me the touch pro 2 instead of it
I used to have the omnia and would never buy a samsung again. Apart from the excellent camera I hated it particulary because of the poor battery life...I had to charge it everyday. Plus the touchscreen wasn't that responsive and I kept losing the stylus because there was no storage on the phone. Im happy with the HD at present albeit it's not perfect.
I just bought and sold a Samsung i8910 (Omnia HD). Symbian just doesnt cut it as a touchscreen OS for me.
However, the AMOLED screen was gorgeous, even though it was lower res than the HD, it still looked that little bit crisper and more vibrant. Definitely a feature worth looking into for our next devices. Omnia 2 looks the part, but Samsung have notoriously poor resale value compared to HTC/Nokia etc as well as not having ROM cooks like on xda (unless im mistaken..).
The i8910HD would have been the perfect phone with WM (or Android) instead of Symbian....
It's a shame that they put such a bad OS on the only phone with perfect hardware... I hate Samsung for this (but I'll probably buy the Omnia II anyway...).
The i900 Omnia is/was probably one ofthe best-selling WM device ever and there is some ROM-cooking going on, e.g. over at modaco.com.
I think with the Omnia II and Omnia HD, the Samsung community will grow a lot.
What is AMOLED and is it possible to run word excel etc files on symbian?

it would be better in some things but not in all hd is bigger in screen touch flo is bitter and easier hd has extra rams to be used for graphics acceleration and enhance speed as said by gsm arena
Well, 0.1" doesn't matter, and it still has the same resolution. It has a faster processor, thus the RAM also won't matter, graphics acceleration will probably be faster.
TouchFlo is nice, but I think the Samsung interface is at least as good, it goes a lot deeper than TouchFlo (but doesn't look as nice).
I'm still undecided, maybe I'll stick with the HD and wait for something that's even better than the Omnia II.

Why is this phone so slow despite having Hi-end hardware features?

I noticed that my HD has so much RAM, precisely 288 MB's of it. Then why is it slower than an Iphone 3GS which only has 256MB while having a similar speed Processor speed of ~600Mhz?
By slow I mean, really basic functions which this phone is meant for... like the Manilla picture tab taking forever to rotate to Landscape mode, same with the music tab, its so choppy when you try to flip pictures/albums.
I am saying all this because I recently played with an Iphone but as much as I don't like it, I was so mad that my phone having better hardware was so much slower that I had to hide it.
Any insights?

Hi ajrox,
Maybe one of the reasons for the slow response via Landscape mode/Music tab may be because of the time it takes to load data (pictures, songs) from the MicroSD card. In contrast, the IPhone has built-in memory (with possibly higher refresh rate).
When running more than one function though, it's understandable that the Touch Hd may sometimes perform slower than an IPhone because of it's multitasking capabilities - being able to dynamically save application state while servicing other applications, which I believe the iPhone OS cannot.
The qualcomm 7201a isn't high end by any stretch of the imagination, it's slower in cpu intensive task's than ancient intel PXA 263/270 cpu's, let alone similar gen samsung S3C cpu's, or new gen A8 cortex cpu's fitted in the iphone 3Gs, HD2, acer neotouch.
I like my HD, but would like it a lot more if it didn't operate on such a turtle cpu.
Ram is HTC's way of trying to speed up the response of these device's fitted with 72** series qualcomm's,[you can tell this by how apallingly slow it is after a soft reset] my acer F900 had less than half the ram, but is a lot faster with rendering web pages, video's or multitasking.I sent the acer back to expansys because they halved the price before I'd even taken delivery of it, plus it had some GSM issue's which I would have worked through if they hadn't shafted me on the price, also the snapdragon powered neotouch came out and was far cheaper than what I paid for the F900.
I haven't ordered a neotouch yet, but probably will, as it's the closest thing to the HD with new generation hardware.
The struggling HD Performer
Also keep in mind that the horizontal picture orientation is intensive graphically which HTC's devices notoriously do poorly on.
Also keep in mind the fancy 6.5.3 (leo builds) are meant for the HD2 which has double the resources on a CPU and Memory front that the poor HD doesn't have. Until the brilliant chefs here tweak these builds (and they have and continue to....), however, there is a limit, hardware wise the HD have reached.
As the famous saying goes, "where is a will, there is a way!" as they chefs here on xda press on which make this community and it's supporters invaluable.
Hope this helped....
I think it is a good time to move from HD to Omnia II
I dont use Manilla and instead i use SPB 3.5 , have the same problem
I'am willing to sell my HD and buy Omnia II and remove samsung interface and apply SPB 3.5 on it
I think it would be amazing
The following reg tweak does speed things up a little
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCAlbum -Edit the "rotate" entry from "1" to "0"
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCScroll - change "velocity_factor" from 10000 (dec) to 40000

New SE on WM leak

http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=191503&start=270
Oooooogh! SE is definitely running further and further behind the trend. I mean Q1 of 2K10 is all about amoled, 1Ghz, multitouch screen, 5M and above pixel cam, etc... and SE gets leaked an aparatus to be released somewhere in 2K11 (maybe) that's already by todays standards a piece of cra*. And it goes the same for the X10... by the time it releases it will be twice slower and three years behind every other phone out here.
...or is it just me, who gave up on SE beeing a ground breaker in mobile world?
it's not just you, jondalar. The X1 was good in time but since they are lagging behind, absolutely.
But I thought they'd have so much potential. I mean it's SONY! But well, I don't see a future for them. Blackberrys kick that phone if it was that what you wanted to show us @to?
I like the X1 still, though. Havn't found a alternative hardware keyboard wise. I don't know what you're thinking about that...
ummmm, correct me if im wrong, but isnt that the new design of the Xpanel button on that ugly piece of SE device?

yep it is the new panel button
lol cool, this is ugly, no wonder i never owned a nokia E series or blackberry (even though the storm looks nice)
look at this post from the forum:
"MSM7227 Chipset (the one used in SE Faith):
The new MSM7227 chipset includes a 600 MHz application processor and also sports a floating point unit. Moreover, a 400 MHz modem processor, 320 MHz application DSP, hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, integrated Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS capabilities, an 8-megapixel camera and 30 fps WVGA video encode / decode and display support are also included.
Best of all, Mobile Station Modem MSM7227 chipset, has been designed to aim at the sub-$150 smartphone area of the market."
that means this has a faster cpu than the x2?

Yessir!
obviously trying to cash in on the success of the nokia E and blackberry market...but about 2 years too late! why such a small screen with huge border?? i can appreciate this kind of phone is aimed at a certain market but they could at least maximise the space available.
* just found a picture from a different angle
http://techtickerblog.com/2010/01/13/sony-ericsson-faith-winmo-qwerty-phone-leaked/
the top kind of has a p1i look to it... maybe in all black or better colours it might be slightly more aggreable to look at.
loads more pics here, must admit it looks better in some of these shots.
http://dailyiphoneblog.com/2010/01/12/gallery-sony-ericsson-faith-first-leaked-pictures/
I'd like to think that it has a bit of P1i heritage, with its touchscreen, so it isn't just a blatant Eseries copy. I'd get it if I couldn't get X1, X2 or X10.
And they are breaking from trend with their green heart movement, so its not all retreading tracks.
I kinnda like MotoBackFlip!
I kinda like Inbrics M1

[Q] fake or real?

So, here is the thing, i bought my father a phone from one of those chinese imports, at the time i didnt quite check the autenticity of the product, i looked at the price and purchased, well, my father will never figure it out ir its real or not, im just asking out of curiosity
Here is the link of the item i purchased
www . aliexpress . com / snapshot / 100404380 . html
(remove spaces)
Sorry, it seems i cant post links, but its sort of necessary for this question
Its funny that even the box looks real, what caught my attention were the sound holes in the back
Anyways, looking for some expert eyes on it, its payed already, im not going to regret my purchase or anything, its just out of curiosity, the link above is filled with imgs of the phone.
Thanks in advance.
By looking at the 6th and 8th pictures (bottom of the phone; open back of the phone) in the description, you can easily tell it's fake. The 3.5mm headphone jack is missing from the bottom of the phone, the hardware Home Button (should be between Call and Start) is missing, and the back of the phone does not have that layout. Heck, the provided battery is 1500mAh, whereas the stock HTC HD2 battery is only 1230mAh.

The internal storage and RAM are pretty low. If I was buying a clone, I'd at least get 1024 storage and 1024 RAM. And preferably the snapdragon CPU.
EDIT: But the key thing to realize is that it will probably NOT work with the standard custom ROMs in these forums; it has different hardware. So whatever you get is what you have for an OS.
