And what if instead of talking crap, you would actually help him? In case you haven't noticed, he is not a noob!
ather90: Probably you could start by asking pof the source code and see what needs to be changed to support .NBF files. About the Ubuntu connection, he already detects the device when you plug it with USB, we don't have yet is an easy way to interact with it. You can see the detection if you use "dmesg" output when you plugin the PDA to your computer via USB.

thanks for the support..yeah i saw that the device is connected..but then it also disconnects automatically..my device couldnt connect to pof's tool also..will PM POF for more info..any ways thanks
Edit :- after restarting my server..i tried again and this time the HTCFlasher Detected it..but could not identify it..

REQUEST PLEASE: HSPL.cab

I am really looking for a HSPL.cab if one exists anywhere, if not i would be grateful if someone (more clever-a than me) could make one.
Apart from the options of installing away from PCs I dont actually use windows / activesync on any of my machines (they are all linux), and as such I am pretty limited without .cab installs.
Thanks for the help, heres hoping!
You can install VirtualBox @ your distro and map USB port do Virtual Machine running Windows XP and ActiveSync.
Regards,
True, but its a fair amount of effort to go through just to get 1 app on my fone for this one time. I also was hoping a .cab might be useful for a few other people.
If there isnt the interest i guess i will have to go down he virtual box route and dig out my old windows xp cds.

hspl is not a "program", for what i know
you don't install this on running OS
it overwrite boot sector

Its not an 'app' and you certainly cant install it via a cab. It can only be done via the methods explained in my flashing thread and can only be done via activesync (windows xp or windows7 32bit preferred).
If you cant manage to do it that way then im afraid you cant install HardSPL.
The effort is well worth it if you want to be able to protect your phone and want to flash custom roms

Nice idea, sadly it hangs/stops working just after the phone restarts to the bootloader screen. I guess it could have been worse, it could have hung about 1min in to the instal and bricked my phone.
I think im going to have to resort to using windows this once.

Unrevoked doesn't see aria - Ubuntu 10.04

Hi there,
It's probably something simple, but most things are easy when you know how!
Unrevoked does not see my Aria.
Running Unrevoked 3.32 under Ubuntu 10.04.
The USB debugging is ON in the phone.
I have tried to run reflash from the terminal using 'sudo reflash' but it will not run that way, doesn't even start.
Any ideas?
(the last time I was here, I was getting the windows 6 hack for my Audiovox Starcom 6700! I still have it by the way and it still works as a pocket PC just fine.)
Ted
One more thing.
I upgraded the rom to 1.25.502.12 tonight, hope that didn't kill this method.
Oh, it's 32 bit Ubuntu.
First of all, I ran it on the wife's windows (yecch) machine and everything worked great!
Whooo Hoooo!
Second, I kept looking and found this on the unrevoked page:
I'm running Linux and it won't detect my device!
Either run the program with root permissions, or add appropriate udev rules to the file /etc/rules.d/51-android.rules. Instructions are available at the Android Developers website.
So, I probably would have figured it all out anyhow...
Maybe this will help someone else.

[Q] Unable to connect Fascinate to Linux Mint

Okay....I am the very definition of noob so please bear with me.
I've been trying to root my new Fascinate so I can get rid of the bloatware. My problem seems to be that I'm running Linux Mint rather than Windoze on my computer.
Does anyone out there have an easy (noob proof) way to root this phone on Linux Mint?
I'm not looking to do anything overly fancy with the phone at this point, just strip out the bloatware. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the option for dual boot? If not, try wine. I started getting to heavy into the programing of the phone and had to load windows on a seperate partition but you could attempt wine for simple applications. The issue will arise with drivers however.
I have Wine installed, and it starts the START ROOT bat file just fine.....it just doesn't recognize my phone I'm fairly sure it's the (windoze) drivers holding up the process.
Am I just crazy, or does it seem a bit silly that an Android (Linux OS) phone cannot properly connect directly to a Mint (Linux OS) computer?
Is there any hope to get my phone rooted without begging computer time on someones Windoze system?
BTW- When I say noob, I mean noob. My eyes start to cross when I read command lines.

I agree lol...linux and android should go hand in hand...afteral, our robot buddy came from it lol. Did you try downloading the drivers and executing with wine?
Amd fyi, you may as will work on a dual boot. It's addicting lol.
Yeah, I tried installing the drivers with Wine. No joy.

I've seen ways to root for the droid via pushing through the terminal however with the fascinate my searches yielded nothing :/ If I were you, I'd download the files you require to your comp amd transfer to your sd and head to a friends. Sorry bud.
Nothing wrong with telling me the truth
Better I bite the bullet and take that route as opposed to banging my head against the keyboard trying to do what can't be done.

Linix Mint used to be built from Ubuntu (now its from Debian which Ubuntu is as well) so those should work.
Both Mint buntu Mint Debian are still in active development.

Heres how to get BT5 working on your HD2
1. Go here ---->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=15324216
2. Download the links and follow the instructions
(changed this to point at my pseudo-development thread, its much more informative )
Excellent work z3nful
can confirm working on my HD2
couldnt sort out the resolution fix
vol. down+6 is help
vol. down+7 is delete
vol. down+8 is tab
vol. down+9 is down
vol. down+5 is right
Although looking at above all I need is 9 5 and 7, will try this tomorrow
also when i exit with #stopbt it says "stopbt: command not found"
Looking good though, well done!
lol oops, thats supposed to be "sh stopbt" changed it in there...
for the vnc screen, i was using the default keyboard in Hyperdroid (not sure which one you got) and holding down vol. down and pressing 6-9 (switch the keyboard over to numbers and symbols). in android terminal, you can press menu and select special keys to see the help for it.
I'm working (very slowly) on getting as much as possible working with backtrack (loving the idea of a laptop in my pocket i can do security work with)
for starters, i got the full image file for arm up and working over here ---->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15324216#post15324216
Any insight or comments are strongly encouraged!
resolution is sorted and is much better now.
This seems faster than ubuntu and debian builds I have tried previously.
There is plenty here to try to get my head around, being a BT newb.
Not sure about using the web based Office suite for starters.
BT5 forum search button, meet Robbie P!
Come learn from thanks! ! !
I think this looks awesome! If I could only get touchscreen and WiFi to work on my Magdlr Ubuntu I would love to try this
Guessing nobody has gotten this to work fully with Magdlr? If not I will have to try and fix it myself ^^

Flashtool / SEUS working in Virtualbox (Ubuntu)

Just wanted to post a notice of success story of getting SEUS and Flashtool working under Ubuntu 11.04 with Virtualbox installed from the repository running Windows XP. This means that it IS possible to use both of these tools just fine under Linux (with Windows running as a guest). Looking around the web a few weeks ago led me to believe that it couldn't be done, as some people (Mac users IIRC) were having issues getting Virtualbox to properly handle the X10 when it is in flash mode. Here are the steps that worked for me:
1. Install Virtualbox from Ubuntu Software Center
2. Create a Windows XP virtual machine and install Windows
3. Add your username to the group "vboxusers" in Ubuntu (this will allow the VM to use USB devices) and reboot to apply the change.
4. Create a blank filter under USB in the settings of the main Virtualbox menu so that all USB devices can be picked up automatically.
5. Run SEUS and check for updates, first time doesn't work because it installs the drivers for flash mode, second time worked fine for me.
6. Use Flashtool, etc. as you like - fully functional.
It was just nice to realize I didn't have to look around for a Windows machine to borrow for the amount of time it takes to test out different basebands and custom ROMs/kernels, so I thought I would share here.
Post a link to this thread in the Flashtool thread...
Should be helpful for others...
sent from x10 CM7 (FreeXperia Project)
Amazing how i was told Vbox cannot do this.
Well done.
This is awesome. My SATA connector on the mainboard just broke and the disks attatched to it was my Windows 7 installation. Now that that is gone (until I get it fixed) I'll have to use this method because I had my Linux running on the reserve/backup PATA disk (just in case **** happens, and it came in handy now).
And I really don't want to re-partition those disks, reinstalling Windows, reinstalling Mint (Fixing possible GRUB or MBR issues etc.) So this is gonna come in very very handy.
As I'm writing this I'm installing XP in VirtualBox.
I had to reboot linux after adding the username to the vboxusers group before it could pick up my USB ports.
But else it's working flawlessly...
Original post updated with reboot instructions, thanks! Glad to hear it's working for you too.

I suppose reboot is not exactly necessary for linux. You just need to logout and login again to update the granted groups.
I didn't create a blank USB filter, because I don't want to catch every USB device.
Instead I created a filter for all devices with just the VendorId '0fce' to catch all states of my X10.
Amazing great work ,,Well done.

Hmm... Not working for me with virtualbox, a mac host and a Win XP guest.
First tried manually adding. Next, I put a blank USB rule at the top of the USB filters. This time, it successfully captured and the hardware install wizard popped up. FlashTool did not recognize the phone.
Soooo.... are drivers from SEUS needed (unclear on that)? Sony pulled SEUS for x10, by the way. If needed, has someone mirrored it somewhere? USB drivers are installed - FT and adb work fine when phone normally booted.
I'm using parallel 7 on osx lion
windows 7 runs very smoothly and it can read my phone's sd card
but x10 is not recognized in flash tool
i thought virtual box and parallel are similar
so how to create a blank filter under USB in the settings ?

I figured out my problem. It was just as I expected. A different set of drivers is needed to use flashtool to flash when the phone is in flash mode. It seems that many people take this for granted, since they've had an xperia for a while, it isn't explicitly mentioned in the flashtool posts.
The flashtool folder will something called gordons gate (IIRC). If you didn't install that and try again.
Does it really work? I just found out there is a problem for ADB working under windows 7 as a guest. It is also documented as a bug
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/6620
Given problem with that, I am very leery to even want to flash anything with that even though it is using a different driver.
Very good! After a lot of research. I was already trying fastboot, unsuccessfully, when I found this. Worked perfectly on Ubuntu 11.10 32b & VirtualBox.
One point I'd like to mention is that even creating the blank filter, besides flashing worked on first try, adb was not finding the device. I had to manually attach it, and more than once while rooting it. Pretty easy, but was unexpected and I wasn't waiting for something like that. May help others.
I still have to try filtering by verdor ID as suggested by User Name in post #10.
Thanks!
