I am really looking for a HSPL.cab if one exists anywhere, if not i would be grateful if someone (more clever-a than me) could make one.
Apart from the options of installing away from PCs I dont actually use windows / activesync on any of my machines (they are all linux), and as such I am pretty limited without .cab installs.
Thanks for the help, heres hoping!
You can install VirtualBox @ your distro and map USB port do Virtual Machine running Windows XP and ActiveSync.
Regards,
True, but its a fair amount of effort to go through just to get 1 app on my fone for this one time. I also was hoping a .cab might be useful for a few other people.
If there isnt the interest i guess i will have to go down he virtual box route and dig out my old windows xp cds.

hspl is not a "program", for what i know
you don't install this on running OS
it overwrite boot sector
then no chance i think

Its not an 'app' and you certainly cant install it via a cab. It can only be done via the methods explained in my flashing thread and can only be done via activesync (windows xp or windows7 32bit preferred).
If you cant manage to do it that way then im afraid you cant install HardSPL.
The effort is well worth it if you want to be able to protect your phone and want to flash custom roms

Nice idea, sadly it hangs/stops working just after the phone restarts to the bootloader screen. I guess it could have been worse, it could have hung about 1min in to the instal and bricked my phone.
I think im going to have to resort to using windows this once.

O.k. for everyone who's traying to Flash in Vista
Donwload the files from this link: http://rapidshare.com/files/38401715/Manual_and_files.rar.html
and extract them in a new created folder like for example your desktop. Extract the USB Modem Vista in a different folder on your desktop (easy to find)
- put your device in bootloader mode (press and hold power, light and softreset button)
- connect the MDA to your computer.
- open computer management (devicemanager) in vista, rightclick computer in startmenu and select manage (see step 1)
- in computermanager open devicemanager (step 2)
- follow step 3 and 4.
After step 4 browse to the folder where you extracted the USB Modem Vista and choose next.
It will install the active sync drivers to vista and you will be able to flash.
I attached a exit bootloader file to exit bootloader mode (you can also install drivers without flashing the device)
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO EXIT BOOTLOADER MODE!!!! EVEN BEVORE FLASHING!!!!
If you do it properly it will be done in less than 4 minutes.
Good luck.

Nope. In Vista with current drivers and updates the driver cannot be updated to an older one; neither in bootloader mode (uknown USB device) nor in standard mode (PocketPC).

Don't hate if you're a noob With Vista
Download my package and see for yourself mate!
I run Vista Business for almost 6 months and I'm flashing trough Vista for quite a long time now. Even now after upgrading the Windows Mobile Device Center.
So as far as I know your post is based on nonsence!!!
As I've said many many times, you have to do it exacly the way I wrote it.
Pro to noob
for your info, I've been using Vista for about two years.
building and flashing ROMs for 3 years now.
I do not argue with possibility to flash ROM in Vista.
I do argue with possibility to use your instruction universaly in all standard Vista installations.
I've seen and tried both possibilities myself.
Universal in boot mode:
"The best driver software for your device is already installed.
Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.
Uknown Device."
Have you ever seen this message? I doubt.
I've seen that message when you don't do it correctly.
I'm not going to discuss with you if it works or not. And as far as being a pro... been working at microsoft for 6 years. Cheers mate! and good luck flashing building or whatever it is that you do.
Nonesence Again.

I was using vista since beta1, and i have been using WMDC since its beta stages. And i do have to confirm the method with updating your drivers with AS ones works Perfectly. Try again, but dont search for drivers, update it manualy, AND, dont forget to untick ALLOW USB CONNECTION in WMDC before pluging in a bootloaded device. That really does work a charm.

nothing about a driver package for the shift?
noone have a collection of drivers for everething is in the shift?
like wlan, touchscreen bluetooth.
in way that we can install vista witouth the recovery partition..
please use the search function
If you'd use the search function, you would see that there are driver packages available for Windows XP and there's also a lot of postings about creating a custom recovery partition.
Guess, what, I helped you, I did the search for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386492
sorry
sorry but i use search function.
i don't need xp driver but i need vista drivers.
i well know that there are some instruction to extrapolate drivers from actual installation.
but nothting works for me.
i want to install vista ultimate and i need to install single dirver for every element in the shift like in a normal pc.
if is impossible to do peace but i asked for it.
i think will be usefull for who are not so able. like me.
if someone make that possible i appreciate but i doon't pretend.
Just do an upgrade rather than reformating your shift to keep the old drivers.

I've already done an upgrade to vista ultimate but no way to make work touchscreen. everything goes ok but nothing about touchscreen upgrading to vista ultimate.
Tried to search wacom's drivers but nothing in winupdate but nothing works.
i'm hoping that someone in the future will make a driver collection for vista like those one are in the clio-wiki for xp.
if some of you can share the .exe file for installing touchscreen in Vista i would appreciate..
Many thanks.

if you are using bootcamp then it can be done and if you are using parrallel or any other virtualization then it can be done but you must first put your phone in BOOTLOADER mode and then connect to mac via USB and then flash your phone.

Hum, then how comes I just Flashed my cruise with wm6.1 through parallels? Would my beloved mac actually be a PC? omg.....
Nah, it CAN be done, I do it almost daily But, it's true that some CustomRUU.exe's sometimes act weird...
@approved101: depends on your ppc...
You can also flash through SD card. That way, it doesn't matter what OS you use.
Bootcamp will work fine obviously as it just makes your Mac a Windows machine. I found that the latest Parallels didn' work properly, flashing wouldn't go all the way to 100%. The latest VMware worked surprisingly well though.
There is an open source flash tool called HTCflasher that can be compiled for OS X. It doesn't seem to work though as it doesn't use Linux style paths to usb devices. There is a possibility we might get it to work someday though.

Hi all,
It's been a while, but I am back with HD2. I have a problem. I have win7 business on all off my computers, I instaled latest activesync, but I keep getting error connection. When installing drivers, I get the unknown device, so instalation failed.
Not even bluetooth recognition works.
Any suggestions, please?

If you are using Windows 7 Business, I would guess you mean you are using Windows Mobile Device Center, yes? In Windows Device Manager are you set up to automatically download drivers? Are you getting any errors in the Sync Center? There is a lot of information you have to supply before anyone can troubleshoot the problem you are having.
There are a lot of steps you can take, most of which you can find by doing a search of XDA. If that fails, then come back with a more detailed explanation of what you have done, and people will try to help troubleshoot for you.
Thanks for looking,
and yes I have been searching a lot for information allready before I made a new thread.
I have win7 business and yes it does download drivers automaticly.
I will try and search for manual driver setup, but would be very thankful if any of you could give me some hints.

In Device Manager you can click on Portable Devices and see if you see your HD2 there, if you do, then right click on it. You can find options to manually install drivers. If that does not work, in the Mobile Device Center you can configure how the center is supposed to connect to your HD2. Have you tried that yet? Also, make sure you are not using a USB hub for connections. You can try changing USB ports to try to reinstall drivers.
I am trying hard, this is the error I get:
P.S.: in activesync all options are on, so no problems there, but I have tried all of them.
In that case, try uninstalling the device in Device Manager, and starting over again. It does seem to be a driver problem. Another trick you can try is on the HD2, under Settings, USB to PC, try unticking Enable advanced network functionality, and then try to reinstall the drivers.
Another thing you can try is deleting the partnership in Windows Mobile Device Center and creating a new partnership.
Is there a wa I could find the driver somewhere and install it myself?

In the Leo ROM forum the thread on MTTY has some Windows 7 drivers you can download I believe, but that will take awhile.
Are you using Win7 32 or 64 bit?
win7 32 bit. I tried to download them through windows update, but I got an error as well.
So I am on a quest for drivers....

If you are familiar with computers, you can try this with Win7 drivers you download for HD2.
You did try uninstalling your device in Device Manager, and trying another USB port to install it on? It seems really odd that Win7 is not finding the right drivers for you, and that persists even after you uninstall and reinstall the device.
No luck so far, any more ideas?
Update:
I tried the same thing on another laptop, same specs, same win7 business, worked like a charm.
So must be this win7 problem I think. Any ideas what to do? I can't remove mobile device center, so I could try and reinstall it. The icons stay in my control panel.
Anybody?
I just can't imagine this is only happening to me.

Did you have any luck yet in solving the problem?
Nope my dear helper,
I found out this is windows7 problem. I still get the first error can't install device driver, because the device is not installed on the computer.
Something must be wrong, but I was getting a head, network driver installed fine, windows mobile device program runs fine, I made a clean install with register delete etc...
I just can' seem to find this to work.
i had some problem the first time i plugged my HD2 on win7 64 ultim.
nothing happened, no activesync, no nothing...
i opened sync center, nothing...
windows updates found me windows mobile device center with upgrade devices, the thing installed but all still worked bad, impossible to activesync, no driver for my HD2, and i know nothing about phones and windows, it's my first windows mobile.
so after hours of fighting, i decided to DL the app windows mobile device center on microsoft download website, then i installed the thing and oh miracle, my HD2 was detected, the app Win M D Center was asking me now with the pic of my hd2 in the prog to chose between settings as the first thing installed by windows update always froze at win mob device center splash screen...
i resume here but it took me the all afternoon to finally resolve this problem.
something went wrong with windows update install and to reinstall the all app was the easy way to fix the activesync problem.
If you did already re-download Windows Mobile Device Center and that did not work on the one recalcitrant computer, maybe you might need to update your BIOS or download the latest drivers for you motherboard. Sometimes problems can crop up if the computer does not have the most updated BIOS and motherboard drivers. How old is the computer you are using?
Well, after calling microsoft support and HTC support and doing for 36 hours nothing but trying I finally reinstalled my hole system. So new clean install of windows 7 business and it works like acharm. Where did it went wrong, I don't know, there had to be some register issue I think. Windows mobile center worked ok, the connection with the phone worked, but just not recognizing the device. Well I would of done the instalation sooner, If I knew this one is gonna be so hard to do.

Well, glad you finally solved your problem, and that this time the blame was not just placed on HTC or the Leo. Sad though that you had to go through so much to get the darn thing to work. I just installed a new operating system for my neighbor, and there is still more work to do on it. Not a fun thing to do.

Flashing fails with Parallels .. Have not tried Vmware to flash.
You should try HSPL... ...use SD card to flash, works flawless !
Fusion and Parallels were not stable enough (XP/W7).
Having a G5 you need to install HSPL on a friends PC, all the rest can be done with yours.
I have tried ( on my iMac and MacBook Pro ) to flash thro VMware Fusion ( use both XP and Window 7) - mostly unsuccessful - hang midway. So I still use my desktop PC when I need to flash rom

Just flash the rom via your storage card. Search the forums for the methodology I have a Mac and use Boot Camp, so I can't give you the details, but it involves switching your device into boot mode and then installing the rom file (the nbh file) from the storage card..
Good luck
Ok guys i have tried everything Parrales, Vmware, Virtual PC 7 and i have failed miserably everywhere. Soo how do u do the HSPL and can u update phone through that as well? And my friends will not allow me to install XP on their mac for even 2h so i cant do anything..... Except HSPL and what is it exactly?
PC
considering most of the world uses windows surely you have at least one friend with a pc?
The programs are small and don't actually even install on the computer so guess worst case scenario you could do it at a internet cafe. but flashing ROM's is kinda addictive so having access to a pc is good so you can backup your data to outlook. considering you have a g5 maybe time for an upgrade anyway. You seem technically minded or at least willing to learn why not build yourself a cheap PC using the same components in a mac that way you can run snow leopard for your day to day and have windows 7 when you need to flash and backup plus it will save you round a grand.
Well i actually i do have a kick ass Windows 7 pc builded it my selft the only problem is that its in the other country XD... So ur best bet is to do it in the internet cafe?
That would work but...
That would work but given that from my experience the majority of ROM's on this forum are a little to cutting edge for day to day use and you need at least a couple of days to give a new one a fair go you could end up with something you hate till you can next get to a computer.
but yeh, you need active sync, hard SPL and the ROM image all of which can be downloaded on your mac to a USB stick. You would have to install active sync though. then connect the phone set to sync (doesn't matter if you dont set it up to sync with the with the internet cafe computer) run hard SPl 2-3 mins, run new ROM image 10-15 mins and your done. Dont forget to backup off course..
when u hard spl your device with PC machine, u could just use SD card method to flash rom next time... but u have to hardspl first
