Hi,

Flashing fails with Parallels .. Have not tried Vmware to flash.
You should try HSPL... ...use SD card to flash, works flawless !
Fusion and Parallels were not stable enough (XP/W7).
Having a G5 you need to install HSPL on a friends PC, all the rest can be done with yours.
I have tried ( on my iMac and MacBook Pro ) to flash thro VMware Fusion ( use both XP and Window 7) - mostly unsuccessful - hang midway. So I still use my desktop PC when I need to flash rom

Just flash the rom via your storage card. Search the forums for the methodology I have a Mac and use Boot Camp, so I can't give you the details, but it involves switching your device into boot mode and then installing the rom file (the nbh file) from the storage card..
Good luck
Ok guys i have tried everything Parrales, Vmware, Virtual PC 7 and i have failed miserably everywhere. Soo how do u do the HSPL and can u update phone through that as well? And my friends will not allow me to install XP on their mac for even 2h so i cant do anything..... Except HSPL and what is it exactly?
PC
considering most of the world uses windows surely you have at least one friend with a pc?
The programs are small and don't actually even install on the computer so guess worst case scenario you could do it at a internet cafe. but flashing ROM's is kinda addictive so having access to a pc is good so you can backup your data to outlook. considering you have a g5 maybe time for an upgrade anyway. You seem technically minded or at least willing to learn why not build yourself a cheap PC using the same components in a mac that way you can run snow leopard for your day to day and have windows 7 when you need to flash and backup plus it will save you round a grand.
Well i actually i do have a kick ass Windows 7 pc builded it my selft the only problem is that its in the other country XD... So ur best bet is to do it in the internet cafe?
That would work but...
That would work but given that from my experience the majority of ROM's on this forum are a little to cutting edge for day to day use and you need at least a couple of days to give a new one a fair go you could end up with something you hate till you can next get to a computer.
but yeh, you need active sync, hard SPL and the ROM image all of which can be downloaded on your mac to a USB stick. You would have to install active sync though. then connect the phone set to sync (doesn't matter if you dont set it up to sync with the with the internet cafe computer) run hard SPl 2-3 mins, run new ROM image 10-15 mins and your done. Dont forget to backup off course..
when u hard spl your device with PC machine, u could just use SD card method to flash rom next time... but u have to hardspl first

there are many mac users out there(me) and we have to be using bootcamp and parallels to flash out roms when it would be much more efficiant if we could flash in mac OS X so i was wondering if there are any talented programers out there which could make a utility for us

That would be cool. I use parallels without problems, but a native OSX utility would be great. Maybe we could just flash the iPhone OS onto the Hermes
(NB: For the humor impaired, that was a joke.)
i doubt we could get the iphone os onto the hermes but the utility would be a start plz programmers just a alpha or something that kinda works so we can be happy
If you can get a memcard in your hermes to be seen as a mass storage device on your apple, you can put the ROM on it and after a reboot the ROM should get flashed automagically
yh i got 4 gig but some ppl dont have mem stick when they buy hermes and they want to get a 4 gig but 4 gig dont work without wm6 and the mem stick thing (back me up here )

It isn't that we NEED an OSX native flashing utility. It is just that we would LIKE an OSX native flashing utility. And it would be cool too, and that is what Mac users are all about, after all. Coolness.
HTC probably realizes two things:
1) The Mac market is very small and not likely to grow that much, if at all, anytime soon.
2) 99% of the time that an HTC device is flashed, it's not to an official ROM.
For these two reasons you can bet that you'll never see any official Mac flashing utility from HTC.
The likelihood of the hacking community programming a Mac flashing utility from scratch is also very small, if not completely out of the question.
Flashing from the memcard is arguably the safest way to flash one of these things anyway, just consider yourself blessed.
"If you can get a memcard in your hermes to be seen as a mass storage device on your apple"
I can easily see my TyTN II storage card through bluetooth. Can auto-flash happen on all WM devices or just the Hermes? So where on the do I have to put the files to pull this off? I want to upgrade the radio only.
try this

I have been having problems on XP(not regarding flashing). I am just tired of XP so i was thinking on using Ubuntu. Im going to get to the point now, Is there any software that i can use to flash my phones on linux?
I dont think so really. I have been using linux for a few years and not really seen anything for flashing wm phones. One option i was thinking of was setting up an xp install in a virtual machine and then trying that. I guess you could also try using the windows flashing app via wine but i just havent had time to do this yet.
If you do find a solution please can you report back here as it would be useful to know.
try microSD instead
well actually I am running a Gentoo OS here and tried flashing in XP in virtual machine in VirtualBox, but it did not work for me (after a certain time a timeout occured). From now on I will always flash via microSD card, I have a spare one I can always use for these purposes. Already flashed two different ROMs and works OK, so no need for XP anymore.
I am really looking for a HSPL.cab if one exists anywhere, if not i would be grateful if someone (more clever-a than me) could make one.
Apart from the options of installing away from PCs I dont actually use windows / activesync on any of my machines (they are all linux), and as such I am pretty limited without .cab installs.
Thanks for the help, heres hoping!
You can install VirtualBox @ your distro and map USB port do Virtual Machine running Windows XP and ActiveSync.
Regards,
True, but its a fair amount of effort to go through just to get 1 app on my fone for this one time. I also was hoping a .cab might be useful for a few other people.
If there isnt the interest i guess i will have to go down he virtual box route and dig out my old windows xp cds.

hspl is not a "program", for what i know
you don't install this on running OS
it overwrite boot sector
then no chance i think

Its not an 'app' and you certainly cant install it via a cab. It can only be done via the methods explained in my flashing thread and can only be done via activesync (windows xp or windows7 32bit preferred).
If you cant manage to do it that way then im afraid you cant install HardSPL.
The effort is well worth it if you want to be able to protect your phone and want to flash custom roms

Nice idea, sadly it hangs/stops working just after the phone restarts to the bootloader screen. I guess it could have been worse, it could have hung about 1min in to the instal and bricked my phone.
I think im going to have to resort to using windows this once.
Hello,
Ive been on this site for some time now and have flashed countless roms from windows roms, sd android and now, of course, nand roms. I have always had windows on my home pc, but after the experience of going from windows to android, I started looking for something better for my home pc. I ended up wiping windows from my computer and installed Ubuntu, which is smooth, fast and I love it. However, one thing has me stumped. I cant figure out how to get the tools, ex. SYNC, installed on my computer. I am trying to use WINE to accomplish this... anyway, im not an expert, but if someone could just give me a little help, I would appreciate it!!!
I hope i opened this in the right place...
I dont think I need the SYNC program, but when I try to use the DFT flash program, ubuntu says it cant be opened... I dont want to use microsoft windows anymore... help me obi wan...
VirtualBox and install a Windows image. That should probably work.
Not sure about sync, but for flashing, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
quote
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
Although you probably know about this already
I flashed this phone to WP7 and it works fine but can't access market even after activation code. I have tried to flashe back using the sd card method but device not recognising sd cards also phone does not allow me to use windows activesync anymore so cannot do it that way either im basically stuck with a phone that does not work 100% any help will be greatly appreciated
you must change sdcard and find one which work (you must reflash or hard reset when insert new card).... HD2 dont have enough memory for WP7 and must use SDcard for this... but major problem is find good and compatible sdcard
for activation you must ask Microsoft support for live activation code for HTC HD7....
for this and others read install tutorial from my signature
I have done all that but still nothing. Every tutorial I see they are saying when usb plugged in then activesync should work but im getting nothing and I can't think of what else to do. So far my phone is done now I get no mobile data either just wifi I can't access facebook unless using browser. I was looking forward to using this phone but now its pretty useless
Which Windows you have on PC??? if you have XP then you must have ActiveSync... for Windows 7 and 8 you must have WMDC (windows mobile device center)

i never have any problems with sync on my (old) HD2... maybe some problem on your device or drivers
Check in Device Manager if anything shows up or needs drivers.
Does the device show "Serial" in bootloader when connected?
Turn on the phone into magldr and then use the usb mass storage option. It should allow full access to your microSD card and let you backup any files from there. Then format the card (FAT32, 4096 allocation size) and you should be able to reflash stock now.
