Hello everybody,
I just bought a Kingston 2GB MicroSD with miniSD and Sd converters. It doesn't work on my MDA Vario. I tried with 1GB microsd and there was no problem. Then i tried the 2GB card on my Charmer and it read it in a blink. I formatted the card numerous times and the vario can't read it. So I'm out of options now.
The first time I used the 2Gb card the vario read it and then i copied some files with a card reader (under Ubuntu 8.04), and then it stopped reading it
Can you guys think of something that can fix the card?
had the same problem
i also had the same problem with my 8125 and i did a lot of things to it like yourself.
but the only thing that got it fixed was to flash a rom back to my 8125. so i flash the same rom i had and my sd card worked like a charm.
i hope i have helped.
I have had a lot of trouble with memory cards in my Wizard. Sometimes they're read, and sometimes they're not. And some never read. Very frustrating! You can keep trying to insert and remove it; once it a while it will appear. But once it sees it, it doesn't "lose" it, so I'm always very reluctant to eject a memory card. I've got a 1GB micro-SD in a converter and it works most of the time. I wish I knew why it was so flaky.
Considering the sheer number of posts like these that I've seen, I'm inclined to think that the Wizard just has a crappy card reader. It's a shame, but then again, it's also a pretty old phone, by current standards (18 months is obsolete in phone lifespans).
Thanks for the responses!
I have an update.
I made a hard reset - nothing. Then I flashed the latest TNT WM6.1 ROM - still nothing.
Card isn't working (actually it is but only with power off/power on), although my Charmer still reads it. I made several low level formats, and formatted it with the charmer. Nothing happened. So i tried a friends 2G Kingston MiniSD. It works without any problems. Still he said he had some issues so he removes it only when the device is off. However this is not acceptable for me and i'm now using 1Gb microSD with adapter.
The thing that really bugs me is that the Charmer reads it with no problems. The hardware in the charmer is pretty much the same besides the SD slot and lack of wifi.
I would suggest that you don't use your card with ubuntu 8.04 + card reader. It killed my SD card once (on the Charmer) and i lost some information.
My guess is that the wizard has some problems with 2GB cards. As I know some SD card readers can't read 2G, because it was never intended for the SD standard to have such big cards. For this I would suggest that if you have any problems turn off the device put the card and power it on. It should see it then. I can't recall which FAT i used for format, i think it was fat32. I think the wizard runs a bit slower with the 2G, but it could be my imagination.
Until I can solve this problem with not seeing the card when it is plugged while the device is on I'm sticking to 1G.
Is your 2GB card SD, or is it SDHC?
SDHC cannot be read by HTC Wizard, period. There have been a few card makers that actually produce 4GB mini SDs, but they number in single digits (and low, at that). Generally, you can find 2GB miniSDs without too much hassle. I'd be very surprised to find a microSD over 2GB. If your microSD is SDHC, there's your problem, right there.
Also, the general consensus from these boards is that your SD card should be formatted to FAT, not FAT32, to be read by a Wizard consistently. It'll still be readable by other machines, but your Wizard will balk at reading FAT32 (not all the time, but most of the time).
Lastly, never bother trying to use your phone as a USB card reader. It's just way too slow. If you have a card reader, stick to loading/unloading with that.
And turning off the phone to jack in/out the miniSD is a very good idea. It may not be an ideal situation, but losing your data while you're away from your desktop isn't exactly optimal, either, is it?
It is SD, not SDHC. Kingston MicroSd with adapter, actually the one with 2 adapters.
I got the thing with the FAT, not FAT32, after I wrote the post, I formatted it using FAT.
The card reader and Ubuntu of course wrecked the 1Gb card I'm using (yesterday) - the wreck with the strange named dirs, so only Windows+card reader for now.
I don't care about the data on the card, it's not important (and I have a backup on the desktop). I would like to be able to put it in and out whenever I like, with the device on. It seems that this won't happen.
Thanks for the great input Myrddin Wyllt!

I have a hermes and there i was using a 2 gb sandisk micro sd card for some 5 month...and recently i brought a trinity and then hence im using that micro sd card with a minisd adapter in the trinity...and for last 1 week it worked flawlessly...last night all of a sudden the minisd card disappeared...no sign of storage card like that there has no card inserted...although in the about window it says expention slot in use..but in memory window no storage card installed!! and resco explorer or any other program cant detect the card...
firstly i thought my card is currupted so i inserted it (the micro sd) in my hermes and it worked there without any glitch...even then i formatted it in both fat16 and fat32 in the pc with a card reader but my trinity cant detect the card....
then i thought my mini sd adapter is broken...so i tried the memory card with the minisd adapter in the nokia 6280 and its working there without any probs....and then i tried the 64mb minisd card that came with nokia 6280 in the trinity and WTF my trinity can detect this card and also working with it..that means the card slot of the trinity is ok...
after all of this experiment then i flashed 3 types of rom in the trinity to see if it can detect the card... one is the lsvw edition with gps...(that i was using for a week before this thing happened) then a original htc rom and the dopod australia rom that my set had when i purched it...but all this three rom has same result...can detect 64 mb card (which is nokia oem minisd) but cant detect the 2gb sacdisk (wich is a micro sd to mini sd converted)...
now do anyone have similar kind of problem...or this is a new issue...i dont have any other card to try in this moment.... just ordered a oem 4gb minisd...will get it in next week...
and finally to let you know that my micro sd card is perfectlly working both in hermes and in nokia with the mini sd adapter and i also did a rough test on it with a card reader in computer with the mini sd converted inserted...and no sign of a probs there...
any comment or suggestion would be helpfull...
and a final thing as i brought it in plan from 3 australuia..and im still in that 14 day period...do you thing if i go to a 3 store and told them the setuation will they replace my handset..??i have the dopod australia rom installed so i dont hink they will be able to detect that i had flased other roms...??

it does not support anything higher than a 1gb memory card, i have had this problem to with a 2gb card, i have now put a 1gb card and it see's it fine!

Sorry but I disagree. I have been using a standard Sandisk 2GB miniSD for 4 months now without any problem.
i got told it will only support a maximum of a 1gb mini sd?????
Using a 2 GB SanDisk without problems.
I've been using a standard (non SDHC) 4 gb card for 3 months with no major problems. Never had the card 'disappear' completely - only minor file corruption like losing a picture or a ringtone (but it always comes back on soft reset). Only have those types of issues occasionally anyway (like maybe 1 a week - device should be soft reset that often anyway!) Overall, very pleased with the performance of this device.
G'day,
Perhaps you could try formatting the card in the trinity using an OEM tool. My card (1GB Sandisk miniSD) "disappeared" a few weeks ago after using it OK for a month. I used a card reader in my PC to back it up then formatted it using Spb Pocket Plus in the trinity. I was then able to restore the data from the PC using activesync. Worked OK for me and no problems since.
Good luck.
minisd card problem
Dear Customer,
Thanks for your email regarding your P3600.? The issue you describe is something we are aware of and are currently in the process of rectifying.? It seems to be linked in some way to the latest updates to Windows Mobile 5 and as such we have also enlisted Microsoft's help in solving this.? It seems that the device is accessing the memory while it is in an idle state.
We are currently still investigating the matter with the help of our engineers in Taiwan, but in the meantime, to workaround the problem you can set the device to turn itself off after 1 minute in the power options, then let the device turn itself off instead of pressing the power button.
Once we have fixed the problem, I have no doubt it will be released in some sort of ROM update in the near future.
Thank you for your patience in this matter.
Hong Kong's D810 now officially shipped with a 2G miniSD as a gift
Ok,
I also asked HTC europe supoport about the specifications and got an answer per eMail that the P3600 supports mini SD up to 2GB and does NOT support 'ultra' or SD HC-versions.
So perhaps give it a try with a regular (and unfortunately slower) 2GB SD??

A strange developement that i thought better to be share...firstly my 2 gb sandisk micro sd card (converted to mini sd with a adapter) still doesnt work after updating to latest dopod rom and to latest aku 3.3.1 htc rom...setting>memory still says not installed...but if i boot into bootloaded mode and use the trinming.nbh trick to flash my trinity with a nbh file..it does detect the sd card instantly and start flashing without any problem..so it also prove that the sd card slot is ok and it also detect the card in hardware level but it cant recognise in software part...its strange as the same card worked for the 1st 1 week after i brought the d810..!!!!
now does anyone one have more ideas??
and hopefully im getting my topram 4gb card in a days or 2 to test more furthur...in this mean time im really frustated for not able to use tomtom as no space to keep the maps....

Have you reformatted the card using a card reader with XP?
Now...I have maintained many times that my TopRam 4gb works just fine in my Trinity while many others have complained about problems with cards from many different manufacturers, both 2gb and 4gb cards. It may not be just a coincidence that mine has no problems. I always do the WM5 performance tweaks on my devices and yesterday I saw in the Hermes Wiki a reference to a known problem with the storage buffer settings. The fix that it recommends is one of the settings that I always change with my performance tweaks. It cetainly won't hurt, and for all of those people that are constantly complaining about their miniSD cards, maybe you should try it! The other performance tweaks might also help.
Quote from the Hermes Wiki:
Missing/Corrupt SD Card?
This mod seems to make the SD Card more stable, and avoids the problems encountered by some members where the SD Card either disappears or the card 'loses' information until it's ejected then re-inserted.
There are two issues to this. One is that SD Cards that are made in Taiwan seem to have more problems than Japan made cards. Kingston SD Cards are made in Japan, so, they are a relatively good bet. Sandisk and Crucial are made in Taiwan, so seems to have more problems. The second issue is the registry; the default values are just too low.

Yeap i tried that performance tweak in both way increased it to 8196 and also decreased it to 1500 nothing helped..
and sure i did format it with two diffrent card reader and also using some other tools like panasonic sd card formater or hp formatting tools...and just a hour ago i tried pertitioning it into two part 1gb/1gb hermes do recognise the card so do the pc in 2 partition mode but trinity cant detect it even now...
and finally as i told you my trinity detect the 64 mb nokia oem minisd card so i also tried partitioning my micro sd into a single 64 partition to find out if it has something to do with the capacity but same result there...
so im bit of confused here...really confused..

Ok now there i have just got my 4gb topram card and the best of all is my trinity can detect it and show the size as 3970 mb!!!! hey..at last....even though i didnt test it throughly yet (that will be done in next couple of hour) but im happy that the problem i mentioned earlier with 2 gb micro sd card now seems was related to the mini sd card converter or with the card itself atlist not have to deal with the phone warrenty and stuff like that...
thanks to all who tried to help me out..

i have also verify that in my QTEK 9100 the regystri was:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]"PNPUnloadDelay" = dword:1500[HKLM\System\StorageManager]"PNPWaitIODelay" = dword:1500
i put this values in HTC P3600.... still not regonized. i try whith 8196 but nothing apenned too.....
in anytime, if i put my miniSD in the QTEK 9100, he work's whith no problem....
i already read all this tread, but i can't find the solution to this problem.... maybe i search badly, but can anyone indicate me , if exist, the rigth method to format/resolve this problem.... please help....
hi to all again...
when i'm to format my miniSD in my PC, i can chose the cluster size.... in the tip above, it was referring to change two value to 8196.... but in my PC the cluster size is 8192..... i try whith both value, but still can't get my miniSD recognized....

hi, pls cd u link the other tweaks u reccommend?
Ordered a Sandisk 2GB Ultra Mini SD card earlier today..
After reading this perhaps a 1GB would've been a safer bet... Still, worth a try. Would prefer to have the complete EU maps on one card.
Today I noticed that the 2GB SD card in my Wizard is not being detected at all. So I tried re-flashing it, and there was no change.
On the About screen, it says "Expansion slot: In use", I'm not sure if this refers to the SD card slot or not. In the Memory screen, it says that there is no SD card installed. If the backlight is off, and I put the SD card in, the backlight will suddenly turn on.
Unfortunately, I don't have a miniSD card reader to see if my computer can pick it up. But is there anything I could try to get the Wizard to read the SD card, before I go out and buy a new one?
did you figure this out? i have the same issue
miniSD card woes
Fellas,
Since one of you mentioned that you don't have an external miniSD reader for your PC, I would recommend trying out Pocket Mechanic Professional. This PPC software will diagnose/format your miniSD cards in your phone.
One very important notice...make sure that your phone doesn't go to sleep while Pocket Mechanic Pro is formatting your miniSD card. If this happens, then the only way to revive your miniSD card would be to format it using your PC...trust me, I learned the hard way.
By the way...this software is not freeware, but I believe you can use the trial for 30 days or so.
Good luck!

Same Problem
I had the same problem, my 2gb sandisk would not read on my cingular 8125 OR my computer... So I called Sandisk and told them what was going on. They ask you to do a ton of different things with you computer and your phone... At the end of it all they said they would send me a new one. I was very excited because I did not register it and I did not have any of the paper work. They have a kick butt customer service hot line
Same Prob. part 2
I forgot to add once I got the new card everything worked just fine.
hi guys your forum is great cant stop reading. But i have an issue i recently bought an 4gb mini sd card for my phone the card works but is like it works when it feels like if i put it in and wait for a while or just randomly turn the phone off and on it will work i format it using my card reader through windows on fat32 and all the thing is it works but i should not have to be going through all of this for the sd card to work.
My next problem is i recently upgraded to SNN Edition Version 3.0 LITE and i have to say i love it but before my phone could detect my sd card and from i did i upgrade its not detecting my card at all to be on the safe side i took out the card before the upgrade and now its not detceting at all please can any one help me is there a patch i can use or something HELP!!
i think try to format via fat16 option. i had earlier 2gb kingston card sdmini after formatting it works welll
i was doing some reading and i was told that 2gb is the highest for formating with fat16 i have a 4gb card so this cant work for me a even look in properties and the only option is fat32.any body else as any more in puts.
4GB cards are almost exclusively multilayer, and cannot be read by the Wizard's card reader. You are basically limited to 2GB, and it should be formatted as FAT, not FAT32, as was already noted. If there's a 4GB model that's single layer, that's great, but I don't know about it. (...not saying I'm the definitive authority, either...)
which program can i use in windows to format the card in FAT and not FAT32 and as i said before the phone could read the card before i did the upgrade the only thing its takes a while for the phone too detect the SD card and thats in FAT32 format but i will try the FAT format.
from my experience you can't put ANY 4gb minisd card into the wizard and have it work correctly since it uses double buffering which the wizard doesn't support.
you have 2 options.. either buy a 2gb one.. or format only half of the card in FAT ...as myrddin said.. this might use only 1 buffer..
if that doesn't work, you can look for a program which blocks clusters and block half of the clusters on the card. that would certainly work but you won't be able to get 4gb out of that card ever again.
i'd go with the first option.. 2gb cards aren't that expensive nowadays.
well guys i bought the sd card for my phone and i research before buying it and it caused work so there must be a way for this to work even if i have to split it in 2 partitions but i am at work now so when i get home i will work on it (good thing i bought that card reader) lol but i will give you guys an update soon i plan to format the card in fat16 all 4gb if that dont work i am going to split the partition in 2 but i would love a single partition but what ever works.
I have a 2gb SD Card...
Hey guys... i have a 2gb kingston card (micro SD with adaptor to miniSD), but i have the exact same problem... my wizard just stopped reading the card! Sometimes it reads, but suddenly wizard stops, i have to make a soft reset and.... the card is gone... i formated it to fat32 and fat... and it still doesn't work... any idea? thanks

Correct-o-mundo.
Another common problem (related more to card readers than just to Wizards) is that the reader contacts (and even the card contacts) can become worn, dirty, or corroded. Try removing the card and battery, and get in there with a VERY bright light, a magnifying glass, and some cotton swabs dipped in isopropyl. Clean the metal contacts on both card and Wizard. Be careful not to soak the chip. Damp, not wet. Soak the chip and you WILL be buying a new one soon.
Let things dry COMPLETELY before trying anything, or you'll be sorry.
sd card is not vissible
hi all i have 1gb memory card it is not visible in all device i tried in a cam mobile and computer can any give me a idea to use
My HD2 either doesn't discover the storage card, or loses it after just a few moments.
I have tried two different cards (the 2GB supplied and my 8GB microSDHC).
Has anyone had a similar problem?
Any ideas?
Or is my phone defective.... Help!
^2 options
either storage card is defective or phone is defective...
seems like you did a cross change...
try another storage card on HD2 and try your HD2 storage card on another phone.
then you know which one causes this.
Usually 95% of the cases its the storage card thats defective
My 8Gb card works in my Xperia X1 - the card is a Sandisk Micro SD HC. Whereas the card supplied is a 2Gb Sandisk Micro SD.
Not sure what HC is.
I assume the HD2 can take a 8Gb card - but unsure about the difference in the cards.

HC = High Capacity IIRC
The HD2 can take an 8gb card.
The cards don't seem to be faulty (that is assuming that you've tested the 2gb also).
Try a reset/hard boot. I have had this issue before with other phones and that sometimes fixes
indeed SD stands for Secure Digital and HC for High Capacity...
the next generation will be SDXC (with eXtended capacity)...but thats coming 2010 or 2011..
anyway seems like your phone has an issue. Because HTC devices of the last few years are all capable of SDHC memory cards and they support either 16 or 32 GB.
I would make use of my warranty. But before try a hard reset.
Thank you all for the information.
The HD2 doesn't like that 8GB SDHC Card. When in the memory section of the phone, it recognises it, displays it used/free space, then shortly afterwards states no card is installed!
A hard reset, if no luck, I'll return it... fingers crossed.
Crap!
Hard reset didn't work! Why do I always get the duff unit!
I find it strange that it detects the card for a while then loses it...
Sending it back tomorrow for exhange....
thats the only reason I'm not such a big fan of online orders...in warranty cases everything takes a little longer.
but don't be discouraged...worse things happen in life. keep your head up
At least in the UK you are covered by Distance Selling Regulations. Hope you get it sorted soon mate!
Did you try to format your SD card?
I faced a similar situation with Diamond 2 where the SD was faulty until I did a quick format Fat32 and it worked perfectly
faced this issue in my touch hd AND x1. try formatting the card - helped me twice.
Did you install SD tune up? I also had the same problem. I uninstalled SD tune up and reset and storage card was found again. also I installed s2u2 but believe it was the former app that caused the problem.
Ah-haaaaaaaaaaa!
Formating to FAT32 has fixed the problem - thank you all for you help and suggestions.
I also must say thanks to HTC tech guru's too who experimented with various memory cards too.
Now to start a new thread on Bluetooth - Car Kit...

I had the same problem with my 16 Gig card. I made a backup of the card on my pc, formatted it and inserted in my HD2 and from that moment I had no problem anymore
My Yoga Book always says that my SD card is missing and I need to reinstall it. I install it as part of the internal storage, this might be the issue. I have gone through three different brands, Samsung microsd card does not work at all for me. Simply will not read, says it is incompatible. The other two work for about a couple hours but then I will reboot and sudenly it will not read and say it is not inserted, when it is. So frustrating. Also when the microsd card is unreadable, I have the second issue of the Book not coming back on after it sleeps or when the screen times out. To get the screen to come back on I have to take out the microsd card and the screen will come right on, but than says " the is no sd card, please insert." Any one else having this issue? I really want to like this little machine but it seems REALLY underbaked.
I have an idea of what is happening with my cards. I have a very good Samsung microsd but the machine first said "This card is too slow" !!! I set up the microsd card as "internal" storage not media storage. Well, the Book formats the card, uses it but on reboot it looses the card and says the card is either "not in" or, the card is "not compatible". So I try to reformat but the Book will not format it and neither will my PC or any other device. I keep getting that the micro sd card is now "write protected" or "cannot format raw data", so now I have two expensive micro sd cards that are completely useless and I am very very upset. I have one other card I can try to use in the Book and format it as "media" instead of "internal" but Im afraid it might raw format it too and Im stuck. AAARRGGHH. Any ideas on how to re-format these micro sd cards?
Hi! Any update regarding the issue? Would be really glad to know if you have resolved it as I am currently experiencing something similar with my Yoga Book (Windows). I have a 128GB microsd and sometimes it suddenly stops recognising it. I've never had the too slow error though. My card was formatted using NTFS.
Wondering whether the card tray design is bad, and if the card gets displaced when moving around. I'll try another card, and will update this post later.
Android must be formatted to fat32, although the best way is to format it in a Android device like your phone if needed. Not sure about your other issues. Is there an update from Lenovo maybe. My card reader is just fine. #knockonwood

Sadly I ended up buying a new microsd card. My two cards that I started with are still un accessible and useless. I format it to Fat32 and inserted into the YogaBook and designated the card as media. It's been working great ever since. Still annoyed that I am out $100 worth of micro SD cards
Good luck to you. I have the Android version.

Hi! (In my case) I think it was due to the "thickness" or dimensions of the microSD. I had one that was slightly thicker than the original card I was using for the Yoga Book. I swapped them, and haven't had any problem since then. Sorry to hear that you had to shell out another $100. That really sucks. Mine was sheer luck. (Thanks to the added "chunk.")
Hope this bit of info will be useful for other YB owners.
Unfortunately I can confirm that ;/
In my case I observed the same...
I have a model with windows. It's EXTREMELY slow! Generally, no just the SD card. Almost impossible to work on it. Lenovo sucks!
According to the SC slot I've tried many different SD cards and always the same... Time of copying 2GB file, calculated by windows, about 672 hours... Only...
This is my second computer from Lenovo, and the last one.
If you're migrating files, try doing small amounts and copy not cut and paste. Otherwise just take the card out and do it on a more robust pc.

I'm using an SD card and it seems to be running fine. Are you using it for something that needs regular access to your SD card? Like, installing Windows or a program on it? Because that will make transferring to and from the SD card very slow, or at least a lot slower than what it would usually be. The technology in the Yoga Book's SD card slot is old, so it can't handle stressful situations.
Hi, Thanks for your answers,
My main HD has 64GB, its not a lot of, so I thought about changing location of My Documents and all my files on the SD card. But after setting of paths to SD the computer froze due to it couldn't read SD fast enough.
So, I decided to move my personal folders back and tried to move files manually.
But the situation is the same :/
Don't you think that transferring of files on the another computer to SD card has no sens??
It is needed for me to move files from YB to another computer, so while I can't do it than the SD slot and whole Yoga Book is totally useless for me.
Do you think, guys, that it is possible to install Android on it?? There is a possibility to boot from the external USB-CD or just USB, but I couldn't find the Android version for YB.
Maybe with Android it will work??
Did someone of you tried to do it??
Thanks

I did delete Windows 10 and try install Android, however, I was not successful in getting it usable. So right now, Android is a no-go for those who have the Windows 10 version (although, you can install emulators that allow you to run Android apps). I usually try to minimise how many things I have on my Yoga Book - keeping apps to a minimum, and I've got my Downloads and Documents on my SD card and it's fine. Maybe your SD card is an old one?
Believe me, I've tried all possibilities, which came to my head
I bought three different SD cards (actually I have SanDisk Extreme microSDXC UHS-II, 128GB, formated in exFat) and nothing.
I tried also to run linux, and I noticed a small difference in relation to Win10, that in linux the copying process is pending all the time, while Win10 is breaking the process every time and ordering me remove the write protection.
Hi guys,
I found a solution!!!
I don't know why, but I created two 64GB partitions (almost, just 50% and 50%) on the card and formatted as a fat32 and.... Suddenly it works!
Thanks for your attention!
Has anyone tried the 200GB or 265GB micro SD cards yet? google search seems indicate that it might work but not able to get any concrete proof.

Yes, I use a Samsung 256GB micro SD card fine in my YB. Insert it and format it using the YB and it'll format it as FAT32. Only problem with that is I need to convert/compress my larger than 4GB movie files to something smaller.
thanks to PPC_Ed's confirmation, I ordered a 200GB drive and was able to get it working on my Yoga Book Android.
512GB SD card

I bought a cheap 512GB sd card on eBay for less than $12 from China. I have stored tons of stuff on it. Downloaded a 1080p movie onto it using the adapter on my laptop and the lap top wanted to fix issues. It did, and everything still is fine. It actually might not be 512gb, but I have more than 200gb on it and it works fine - no speed issues at all. Android still reports 512gb total capacity (499 gb). I couldn't be happier with the $12 spent.
