Wizard suddenly doesn't see miniSD card - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Today I noticed that the 2GB SD card in my Wizard is not being detected at all. So I tried re-flashing it, and there was no change.
On the About screen, it says "Expansion slot: In use", I'm not sure if this refers to the SD card slot or not. In the Memory screen, it says that there is no SD card installed. If the backlight is off, and I put the SD card in, the backlight will suddenly turn on.
Unfortunately, I don't have a miniSD card reader to see if my computer can pick it up. But is there anything I could try to get the Wizard to read the SD card, before I go out and buy a new one?

did you figure this out? i have the same issue

miniSD card woes
Fellas,
Since one of you mentioned that you don't have an external miniSD reader for your PC, I would recommend trying out Pocket Mechanic Professional. This PPC software will diagnose/format your miniSD cards in your phone.
One very important notice...make sure that your phone doesn't go to sleep while Pocket Mechanic Pro is formatting your miniSD card. If this happens, then the only way to revive your miniSD card would be to format it using your PC...trust me, I learned the hard way.
By the way...this software is not freeware, but I believe you can use the trial for 30 days or so.
Good luck!

Same Problem
I had the same problem, my 2gb sandisk would not read on my cingular 8125 OR my computer... So I called Sandisk and told them what was going on. They ask you to do a ton of different things with you computer and your phone... At the end of it all they said they would send me a new one. I was very excited because I did not register it and I did not have any of the paper work. They have a kick butt customer service hot line

Same Prob. part 2
I forgot to add once I got the new card everything worked just fine.

2Gb MiniSD not recognised by phone, recognised by Windows

Hi there,
I bought a 2Gb Mini SD memory adaptor from 7dayshop last week, which arrived today.
I've just put it into my phone, and it isn't seeing it. Windows is seeing it. I've formatted it to FAT, and FAT32 within Windows, and the phone still doesn't see it.
I've downloaded the "Storage Tools" application to see if that helps, but I'm not getting anything. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks,
Jon "The Nice Guy"
(This post has also appeared on www.htcwizardweb.net)
I bought a 2GB mini SD from 7dayshop and havent had any problems at all with it (worked without requiring formatting).
Works on my EXEC, mini S and PC.
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_6&products_id=100991
is this the one you ordered?
Andy
Yehr, that's the one. I've contacted their tech support and they're sending me a returns label.
Regards,
Jon
Make SURE you format the card with the "StorageTools" utility for PocketPC. DO NOT format the card with Windows.
hmmm, i don't know if it helps, but i ended up formating my 2gig (sandisk) in my camera (kodak easyshare v530). i suppose i should have thought of the phone having the format feature... the sd card adapter got stuck in the camera, and it took a pair of pliers to get the adapter out... i didn't really need the sd slot to be spring loaded anyway...
It wouldn't even recognise it as being a valid volume - so I couldn't
I did try and read it with the phone first, which didn't work, then found it worked with Windows (in a card reader), then put it back in the phone (didn't work), then back in the PC (worked), put in a friends phone (worked, then didn't), then back in my phone (didn't work), then back in his phone (didn't)... the only consistant thing was that the PC recognised it
Hey Jon, I TOLD YOU to format the card with STorageTools. The 2GB MiniSD problem is a known bug. You have to format the card in the PocketPC.
Can I get it formatted on another phone which will run Storage Tools?
I'd already started to use it on the PC prior to putting it in the phone.

2.0 Gig Micro SD card problem with Wing

Hi Guys
I don't post much here and I tried doing a search on this before so if I missed it, PLEASE BE GENTLE WITH ME
My question/problem is that I bought a SanDisk 2.0 gig Micro SD card for the Wing. I started to add stuff to it via the ActiveSync program for the Wing. After awhile though, I received a "not enough memory" type of error message, saying that the "disk is full" and to remove programs before I can add anymore. I checked the storage on the card and I didn't even use a quarter of the storage on the card. I remember that this happened to me with the MDA when I bought a 2gig card and T-mobile told me that they really didn't support 2gig at the time. So I bought a 1gig and the same thing happened.
I figured it was a problem with the MDA. But it's happening on the Wing as well.
I go Tools> Explore Pocket PC> Mobile Windows Device. From there, I click on the Storage Card folder.
I'm only trying to add stuff to the storage card, not run any programs. I am storing themes and 30 second mp3 clips to use as Ring tones and pictures.
When I try copying one of those files from my computer to the Storage Card folder, I receive the following error message:
"Cannot copy xxxxx: There is not enough free disk space.
Delete one or more files to free disk space and then try again".
I called T-Mobile and they could not figure out what was wrong.
Then they said that it could be because I am using a SanDisk card.
Can someone tell me if this is true? Also, how are you guys doing it?
Any info would be greatly appreciated
Any suggestions? Hints?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Robert
I have a 2 gig micro sd on my wing as well (though it is a Transcend brand) and it has been working fine for me all the time.
Try the card on a card-reader and make sure the card is fine.
Try to use a Card reader! i do not have any solutions if you wish to leave the card in your herald though..
Had the same problems with my 2GB SanDisk, suddenly the free space kept on shrinking.
I deceided to backup my XDA and did a hardreset.
So far I have no problems anymore , but I still can't read the SanDisk with all my cardreaders in the PC on Windows.
Out of 6 (including the built-in in my Notebook) only one can read that card. With Linux I had no problems at all.
Where did you buy Sandisk Memory from is the real question. If you got it from Ebay then chances are you've been had.
No, I bought it from Best Buy. Stupid thing cost me $75.00
I'm going to try that Linux reader and see if that does the trick. If not, what about reformatting the card?
That was another thing. T-Mobile tried walking me through that, but when I tried to reformat it via ActiveSync, I did not have that option when I right-clicked on the Storage Card folder.

Holy Crap! You paid alot for that! Newegg.com for like $25.00 and 3 day shipping sometimes it comes faster. I would order from Newegg and return that one.
I came across the same issue the other day, but unplugging and then plugging my Wing back in solve it.
In case you're interested Transcend is the memory I'm using and so far I'm happy with it. Just wish the Wing had more on-board memory. Program memory gets eaten up so fast.
Hi
I know. I have SUCKER written across my forehead. LOL!!
How did you get the files on the card? I know that might sound like a stupid question, but I am running out of ideas here. Im going to look into the card that you have.
Thanks
Robert
Try different card readers (ask your friends or maybe you neighbors). Those xx-in-1 readers should work well. Those USB-Stick like card readers didn't do the job for me as long as I use them under Windows.
try re-formatting the SD card ...then see if that works .. if not, return it ... go buy a Kingston 2gb MicroSD ...it works fine on my wing. .. i bought mine for $40 ... never had a problem with it.
Patriot 2gb card
I've been having the same problem with a Patriot Micro SD card. I've had to pull the battery or soft reset it and it works fine after that. This is also using Activesync through USB and Bluetooth.
I've never had this problem - and I spent $13 on my 2gb A-Data card (during a sale) Quick browse of NewEgg shows $20 now

No MiniSD card found in explorer

Hi there,
you may think : "not another one with MiniSD card problems !", but I bought my HTC P3600 yesterday with a Kingston 2Gb MiniSD card and it just won't see the card. I have the original, latest WM5 version and didn't try to reformat the card (because I don't have a card reader here) yet, so could that be the problem or is it hardware-related ?
Regards
you can see more info in the memory setting
for sd cards
otherwise it could be a hardware issue had it happen before
with various flash cards
and of cause it could be the phone's sd connector if no minisd cards work :S
It doesn't show anything there, it says "not installed"......couldn't it be the card that only has to be formatted ? Or do you think it is hardware-related ?
just yr luck tt yr kingston 2gb is not recognised by your trinity.
happened to my friend as well.
solved when she got a sandisk instead.
You need tio try one of 2 things
1) Try your card in another device
2) Try another card in your device
If either work OK, it points to the culprit and the solution
my best bet is that the card is dead
happent to a 512MB kindston i had too
1 day it just stop'd working
kinda odd too when they say that sd cards are very resilient
saw a clip where they placed a digicam on a bridge and blew it up
and the sd card still worked
and a cam fell into the sea and washed up and the sd card was still working so they could get the pictures out
but i have many kingston sd cards which work just fine
Well, formatting the card had the desired effect !
It is now found by the P3600 and I was able to install the TomTom maps
I'm glad it worked !!

Mini Sd card not recognized in my wizard

hi guys your forum is great cant stop reading. But i have an issue i recently bought an 4gb mini sd card for my phone the card works but is like it works when it feels like if i put it in and wait for a while or just randomly turn the phone off and on it will work i format it using my card reader through windows on fat32 and all the thing is it works but i should not have to be going through all of this for the sd card to work.
My next problem is i recently upgraded to SNN Edition Version 3.0 LITE and i have to say i love it but before my phone could detect my sd card and from i did i upgrade its not detecting my card at all to be on the safe side i took out the card before the upgrade and now its not detceting at all please can any one help me is there a patch i can use or something HELP!!
i think try to format via fat16 option. i had earlier 2gb kingston card sdmini after formatting it works welll
i was doing some reading and i was told that 2gb is the highest for formating with fat16 i have a 4gb card so this cant work for me a even look in properties and the only option is fat32.any body else as any more in puts.
4GB cards are almost exclusively multilayer, and cannot be read by the Wizard's card reader. You are basically limited to 2GB, and it should be formatted as FAT, not FAT32, as was already noted. If there's a 4GB model that's single layer, that's great, but I don't know about it. (...not saying I'm the definitive authority, either...)
which program can i use in windows to format the card in FAT and not FAT32 and as i said before the phone could read the card before i did the upgrade the only thing its takes a while for the phone too detect the SD card and thats in FAT32 format but i will try the FAT format.
from my experience you can't put ANY 4gb minisd card into the wizard and have it work correctly since it uses double buffering which the wizard doesn't support.
you have 2 options.. either buy a 2gb one.. or format only half of the card in FAT ...as myrddin said.. this might use only 1 buffer..
if that doesn't work, you can look for a program which blocks clusters and block half of the clusters on the card. that would certainly work but you won't be able to get 4gb out of that card ever again.
i'd go with the first option.. 2gb cards aren't that expensive nowadays.
well guys i bought the sd card for my phone and i research before buying it and it caused work so there must be a way for this to work even if i have to split it in 2 partitions but i am at work now so when i get home i will work on it (good thing i bought that card reader) lol but i will give you guys an update soon i plan to format the card in fat16 all 4gb if that dont work i am going to split the partition in 2 but i would love a single partition but what ever works.
I have a 2gb SD Card...
Hey guys... i have a 2gb kingston card (micro SD with adaptor to miniSD), but i have the exact same problem... my wizard just stopped reading the card! Sometimes it reads, but suddenly wizard stops, i have to make a soft reset and.... the card is gone... i formated it to fat32 and fat... and it still doesn't work... any idea? thanks

Correct-o-mundo.
Another common problem (related more to card readers than just to Wizards) is that the reader contacts (and even the card contacts) can become worn, dirty, or corroded. Try removing the card and battery, and get in there with a VERY bright light, a magnifying glass, and some cotton swabs dipped in isopropyl. Clean the metal contacts on both card and Wizard. Be careful not to soak the chip. Damp, not wet. Soak the chip and you WILL be buying a new one soon.
Let things dry COMPLETELY before trying anything, or you'll be sorry.
sd card is not vissible
hi all i have 1gb memory card it is not visible in all device i tried in a cam mobile and computer can any give me a idea to use

Memory card problem

Hello everybody,
I just bought a Kingston 2GB MicroSD with miniSD and Sd converters. It doesn't work on my MDA Vario. I tried with 1GB microsd and there was no problem. Then i tried the 2GB card on my Charmer and it read it in a blink. I formatted the card numerous times and the vario can't read it. So I'm out of options now.
The first time I used the 2Gb card the vario read it and then i copied some files with a card reader (under Ubuntu 8.04), and then it stopped reading it
Can you guys think of something that can fix the card?
had the same problem
i also had the same problem with my 8125 and i did a lot of things to it like yourself.
but the only thing that got it fixed was to flash a rom back to my 8125. so i flash the same rom i had and my sd card worked like a charm.
i hope i have helped.
I have had a lot of trouble with memory cards in my Wizard. Sometimes they're read, and sometimes they're not. And some never read. Very frustrating! You can keep trying to insert and remove it; once it a while it will appear. But once it sees it, it doesn't "lose" it, so I'm always very reluctant to eject a memory card. I've got a 1GB micro-SD in a converter and it works most of the time. I wish I knew why it was so flaky.
Considering the sheer number of posts like these that I've seen, I'm inclined to think that the Wizard just has a crappy card reader. It's a shame, but then again, it's also a pretty old phone, by current standards (18 months is obsolete in phone lifespans).
Thanks for the responses!
I have an update.
I made a hard reset - nothing. Then I flashed the latest TNT WM6.1 ROM - still nothing.
Card isn't working (actually it is but only with power off/power on), although my Charmer still reads it. I made several low level formats, and formatted it with the charmer. Nothing happened. So i tried a friends 2G Kingston MiniSD. It works without any problems. Still he said he had some issues so he removes it only when the device is off. However this is not acceptable for me and i'm now using 1Gb microSD with adapter.
The thing that really bugs me is that the Charmer reads it with no problems. The hardware in the charmer is pretty much the same besides the SD slot and lack of wifi.
I would suggest that you don't use your card with ubuntu 8.04 + card reader. It killed my SD card once (on the Charmer) and i lost some information.
My guess is that the wizard has some problems with 2GB cards. As I know some SD card readers can't read 2G, because it was never intended for the SD standard to have such big cards. For this I would suggest that if you have any problems turn off the device put the card and power it on. It should see it then. I can't recall which FAT i used for format, i think it was fat32. I think the wizard runs a bit slower with the 2G, but it could be my imagination.
Until I can solve this problem with not seeing the card when it is plugged while the device is on I'm sticking to 1G.
Is your 2GB card SD, or is it SDHC?
SDHC cannot be read by HTC Wizard, period. There have been a few card makers that actually produce 4GB mini SDs, but they number in single digits (and low, at that). Generally, you can find 2GB miniSDs without too much hassle. I'd be very surprised to find a microSD over 2GB. If your microSD is SDHC, there's your problem, right there.
Also, the general consensus from these boards is that your SD card should be formatted to FAT, not FAT32, to be read by a Wizard consistently. It'll still be readable by other machines, but your Wizard will balk at reading FAT32 (not all the time, but most of the time).
Lastly, never bother trying to use your phone as a USB card reader. It's just way too slow. If you have a card reader, stick to loading/unloading with that.
And turning off the phone to jack in/out the miniSD is a very good idea. It may not be an ideal situation, but losing your data while you're away from your desktop isn't exactly optimal, either, is it?
It is SD, not SDHC. Kingston MicroSd with adapter, actually the one with 2 adapters.
I got the thing with the FAT, not FAT32, after I wrote the post, I formatted it using FAT.
The card reader and Ubuntu of course wrecked the 1Gb card I'm using (yesterday) - the wreck with the strange named dirs, so only Windows+card reader for now.
I don't care about the data on the card, it's not important (and I have a backup on the desktop). I would like to be able to put it in and out whenever I like, with the device on. It seems that this won't happen.
Thanks for the great input Myrddin Wyllt!
