Help...2 Gig Sandisk issue

Hi guys, I just purchased a 2 gig Sandisk for Jasjar. For some odd reason my device only reads it as 1 gig? But when I insert the card into my laptop, it's read as 2 gigs? So I reformatted the card and now it still reads as 1 gig on Jasjar with about 85% used up and my laptop reads it as 2 gigs with 85% used up as well?? This is without anything on it?! Please help.

You need a new card reader m8. I had same problem.....

So, do I just reformat via a new card reader? Does that solve the 1-gig read issue?

@evo8, I had the same problem on my Toshiba laptop because I used the Toshiba format utility instead of the XP one to format my 2GB SD card. If you can't get it to work return it to Sandisk for a replacement.

I have a Sandisk Ultra II 2GB SD card (actually 2 of them) and they work perfectly.
Do you by chance know of anyone with another HTC Universal device and/or someone with another 2GB SD that you can use to do some cross testing?
Have you soft-reset the device before inserting it?
Hard-reset? (I know . . . last resort)

How about installing Pocket Mechanic on your HTC Universal and let Pocket Mechanic reformat your SD card through your Universal.

I think the prob lies with the card reader. When I first bought my Kingston 2GB SD, I plugged it into my Exec and it read well. So I put it into the built-in SD card reader on my HP laptop and for some reason, it only read as 1GB, looking at the properties.......it showed up as partitioned with 0.9GB used!! And the card had only 1 MP3 song on it transferred from my Exec.
So i tried reformatting it and it became worse! It was totally unreadable by my Exec, while it still showed as 1GB on my laptop. So I tried a new card reader and it worked! Read as 2GB on my laptop. Reformatted the SD using the card reader, and thereafter, it can be used on both my Exec and laptop (with the new card reader)

i've got a 2GB "RIDATA" card - works perfectly in Jasjar.

You'll need a card reader to use it.

Having had the same problem with my 2 gig SanDisk card, I contacted SanDisk, they told me they suspect the card had been corrupted, this after it initially worked in my Jasjar, they gave me an address and contact details for a firm in the UK that handle their problems and they checked the card, found it had become corrupted and sent me a new one within three days or so. My tosh read the new card properly straight away and I have not had any problems since. Suggest you might want to do the same if the other suggestions don't work for you.

Thanks for all the feedback, but I gave up on the Sandisk 2 gig card and sent it back for a full refund. Does anyone know what brand would work though?

You probably have your money back by now and perhaps have bought another card already. However, as I said SanDisk sent me another 2gig card and it works fine in both the Universal and in my laptops card reader.

Problems with cards over 1GB... what's the cause?

Hi All,
I have had numerous problems with my 2GB card such as files and directories disappearing; files showing up on Windows when I plug my SD card in, but not on the PPC.
Anyone know the cause of these issues? Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? I don't think it's the new high speed format card either. It's a corsair brand.

I have the same problem. its a known issue in the trinity. no solution yet.
waiting for a rom to fix that..

I have no problems with files and directories disappearing and I'm using sandisk 2GB mini sd. It seems like sandisk 2gb doesnt have any problems in TomTom either.

Also using a 2GB Sandisk and no problems whatsoever with any rom version.

No problem with my Sandisk 2G MiniSD too!
Sometimes my phone do not detect the card when it was inserted, but no problem when I insert again. It won't "mssing" or lost data as long as it was regonized.
I think it may related to the brand.

my 2gb minisd corsair card became unreadable yesterday and my phone asked to format it. ( after the phone format i only have 1Gb free space. does anyone knows how to format this card with my phone as a 2gb card, because it seems that my phone format it as a 1gb card?

My 2GB sandisk is working OK too. I think make sure the mini sd card is not a high speed one. Mine is x66

Try reformatting with your desktop PC using a card reader.

Have no problem with my 4GB miniSD card at all - everything present and running

Which Brand do you have?

I have a Kingston 2GB card, and it works great, except Media Player seems to screw things up. There are about 1GB of songs on it, and when Media Player creates the library, it creates a hidden folder on the card called MSMETADATA. Inside the folder it creates some kind of MediaLibrary file, which appears to get corrupted. When it does, trying to play anything from the storage card's library results in a media player error. But deleting that folder and running an Update Library works fine. Selecting a song to play directly also works.
The first time this happened, I couldn't figure out what was going on, and a hard reset didn't fix it. Sticking the card into my PC's media card reader showed me the hidden folder, since I didn't have "Show All Files" turned on on the device. It's happened a couple of times since then. But now that I know what's going on, it's a quick fix. I think removing the card might be what messes it up.

Well, my Sandisk Ultra 2GB was fine until sometime in last couple of weeks.
Now it does not appear at all desipte multiple reinsertions. Need to but another adaptor before I can test in reader. But nothing changed on Trinity - now new apps installed, card never removed from slot - just vanished (not unrecognised - no prompts to format it - it just isn't there).
Any thoughts?

Hmmm, very strange, I'm sure you tried soft reset. If it works in card reader, I guess you can copy everyting off of it and reformat it, maybe that will help. All this card disappearing stuff with the Trinity is very strange, it never happended with my 4gb SD in my Prophet in over a year. Mind you, I haven't had any problems with my current 4gb mini SD either but it hasn't been that long yet.

standard sandisk 2gb seem very reliable, maybe its the high speed ones that cause problems, i ordered 2gb ultra2 & had major problems, ie not detecting & when did it wanted to format then giving me only 968mb,

Think my SD card has gone tits up!

Not sure what has happened here as everything has been running fine. All I have done today is try and install that stupid connections database (which failed) and also the VGA fix so that I can run skyfire.
Now when I try and start either File Explorer or Total Commander they are taking ages and ages to start, like 5+mins!! Also when I try and connnect to the PC it sometimes freezes the phone or if I do connect it takes ages to transfer a file to the SD Card. For instance I tried to transfer 2 files, one 5kb and one 10kb it took like a minute to transfer.
Is there someway I can test if my SD card has gone tits up? Also will that SD card tuneup I have seen be worth installing?

Well I assume that their isn't any software that I can use to test my sd card then. Think I will use the 128mb micro card I have at home to test the 8GB card I have. If that doesn't work I think a hard reset is in order as its getting rediculous now. I can't use File Explorer or Total commander now

Run the VGAfix and start PocketMechanic. It's the best SD Card application for PPC i know. Including checkups, defragment, format, speed-up and a lot others.
But the PMechanic needs the VGAfix. Without that he will not work correctly on the HD.

could you just remove it from the mobile and see it operates normal without delay!

Thanks hazem77, I did as you suggested (not thinking today as you can tell!!!) and the phone is miles faster!!! File Explorer and Total Commander come up instantly showing the phones files. And the whole phone feels snappier.
Would a format of the SD card be worth a try or should I get a replacement? Also what do you guys use for installing things? All on the card or a mix of card and phone? I have been installing most things to the phone apart from hacks for say the battery icon etc.

I've just RMA'd the 8GB card that came with my touchHD. The 8GB was working fine, now its just not recognised in any of my devices. No other drama's just not able to browse to it, format it etc...
Luckly my old 2GB card has come to the rescue until I get a replacment from Expansys.

Did you have to send the broken 8GB card back? And I assume you will get an exact replacement, so another class 2 card? I am tempted to phone expansys and see if I can be cheaky and ask for a 16gb card with a bit knocked off for my defective 8GB one.
I have also been told to format the card from my pc, might try this first.

Hi, the 8GB card is sitting in my out tray here at work.. should be with Expansys within a day. No idea how long it will take for a replacement. I had heard Expansys were not the best in this department....?
I'm expecting a like for like replacement. As the 8GB was bundled by HTC not Expansys I didn't think I'd get much joy trying for a larger card with a little extra money.

I had the same problem before. Just format the SD on the PC and it will work fine. copy all data on the SD to the PC and after you finish copy the same back, Any file that gives you error Skip it.

considering purchasing an 8gb memory card for my htc herald, have any of you tried this sucessfully??? the storage memory for the internal memory is not that great as you know and even things that you store in the memory card take up shortcut room in memory...what do you think?? are any of you running the phone on 4 GB memory stick? thanks ...

I have no problems running a cheap 8gb micro-sd from a no-name brand in my HTC P4350,
However, mine does feel a bit slower (yes its possible), since the upgrade from a 2gb card.

Ive been using a 8GB for about 6 months now and havent had ANYproblems with it. I actually had more problems with my old 1GB. It runs perfect!

i have the 8 gb card from amazon and i used it in my shadow and now my wing, its awesome, i keep all my phone supplies there and music, movies, vids, ebooks...keeps on going, lol its worth it, will be looking into the 16 gb soon just to be able to have an even bigger collection for on the go

i've been using a 8gb card from kingston, don't pack it too full or else your phone will lag, i use it for mostly music and i find that when i fill it up all the way it gets a little corrupted
looking @ buy.com for the 16gb cards, 40 bucks...just needs to drop a little moer....

i got a sandisk 8gb loaded with movies, mp3s, ebooks basically everything and it runs smooth

ok..sorry for disturbing the hype, but I need to post this:
I upgraded from 1 to 2 GB and now to 8gb..since then I encoutered issues:
First I copy and pasted everything from my 2gb card onto my 8gb SDHC class 2 card and everything run smoothly..but after some days I realised that all my pivtures I took were gone..than I saw that all folder were weired named--re-named...BUT it changed again and besides that the pixx were gone, all run ok again..
but now..since Yesterday..it is the same..folders re-named..pixx gone and my display says please insert storage-card, but it is included AND I can see the content via file explorer or active sync...its the same with the 2gb card..displays shows the "please insert screen" but I can access via onboard file explorer (fyi all folders are ok..not renamed on the 2gb card)
My idea is, that my simply copy and paste from 2gb to 8gb card was not the proper way to do it..or??
Can someone suggest how to manage this? I have no card reader and I havent found a way to format the 8gb card..to do the copy paste or whatever again..
Any ideas are appreciated!

Did you try right-clicking on the storage card and re-formating it to deault thats what i had to do when i had that problem and havent had a problem since if that doesnt work then you will need to find a cheap usb card reader online....... and if that doesnt help let me know and i might have another solution to help you re-format it

hey phaze, right click within active sync does not allow "format" ..so i tought as well of the card reader thing..or where could I be able to use right click-format option?

do sdhc is correct to use for htc 4350? I hear dform mycard supplier that only sd is usable? so is that my mistake?

[Q] Copy error to storage card

Using an HD mini, latest ROM 1.36.401.1 fitted with a 32GB memory card.
Phone syncs fine and I can copy files to the storage card using activesync but as this is very slow with larger files I've tried to use the disk drive mode.
Problem is that the file starts to copy and after a few minutes of transfer I get the error message "The Parameter is incorrect" After this I have to disconnect the phone and reconnect to be able to try again.
It was one of the reasons I bought the phone and added the memory was to be able to load on some video to watch. I use it for music files and sysnc these using media monkey with no problems at all.
Any idea's....?
I checked the HTC site but found nothing, I've also formatted the card in the phone in case it didn't like it being formatted in the PC.

I use a Sandisk 8GB Class 2 SDHC card, never experienced that kind of problem. But I have to say I never tried any files larger than around 1 GB.
What brand do you have? And how big are the files?

The card is unbranded and the video files are 80 - 170MB. I have some other cards so I can try one of them to see if this fixes the issue.

might be the usb data cable ,have you tryed another microusb cable ? or try to load files to microsd using sd-(usb)adapter and see if you still have this error

When I tried it in the PC it ran with no problems it was just in the phone that I had problems.

Ordered from eBay but a supplier that sells them in original packaging plus gives a guarantee that they are originals.

So received a new 16GB card today, fitted to the phone, copied over some files, so far so good. But then TCPMP would not read the video files saying the MP3 codec is invalid and the other thing I notice is that the storage card is now called Card2. In explorer from the PC it shows two storage cards as:-
Storage card
Storage card2
I seem to be going backwards, powered the phone off/on numerous times, also with the card removed, reformated the card but can't stop it from seeing the card as card2.
Getting so pi$$ed off with this now.

OK a quick update, I fitted the original 1GB card, the phone recognised this as the first storage card and the card2 reference disappeared. I fitted the new 16GB one and all back to normal no card2 issue.
What I don't understand is how it happened and what changed it back. As I intend to load TomTom onto the card the last thing I want is this happening again in the middle of driving.

Never heard of this problem before. Can't think of a cause, maybe something with partitions on your SD card?
