Touch screen lost... - Shift General

Here's what happened so far:
For some reason while changing resolutions, the touch screen lost calibration so that it bacame unusable. Tried to recalibrate, but the calibration program didn't even start. Tried restarting Vista. Nothing.
So, I thought I'd unistall the HID and scan for new hardware, but no luck; Vista doesn't find such hardware even under restart. Legacy hardware doesn't help, either.
Any hints? Using a device such as Shift without touch screen is pretty dumb...

start windows in safe mode, then look at c:\windows\ntbtlog.txt
For the touchscreen to work, you must see:
Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\ecdrv.sys
Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\htcpen.sys
If any of those two is missing, the touchscreen will not work.... try to restore them if you want to keep your existing installation or reinstall your vista using Fn+F3.

Thanks, pof!
I guess it's time for F3 again. It's a damn shame if a clever device such as this cannot be trusted to run for more than a week between reinstalls

Screen Fading to White, Software Related

Hey guys, I have sat here looking at all the white fading, well I have a new one... that I know is software related.
Steps for me to cause it...
Flashed CRC full the other day, newest version.
Added some files from his update..
Added Palm Messaging on my own... forgetting I hate that program.
Got to work today, decided to remove Palm Messaging... errored out while trying..
Decided... must be running, need to kill processes.. No process found and application wasn't running...
Tried to remove again... failed.. got mad and tried to remove many times over... fail fail fail.
Decided to do a soft reset...
Shows the CRC loading screens... goes to show the animation and fades to white...
After 10 seconds or so... the holding the comm button causes the phone to go into vibrate.. so I know something is running.
Any Ideas?
my own reply
Active Sync tries to connect, windows recognizes something connected.. so does linux. Nothing succeeds so far, assuming active sync is not running on the device... meaning win mobile probably isn't able to boot.
Ok.. I have the vibrate on phone key press... and that works... even though it's a white screen... I'm assuming something to do with .net is screwed up.
Windows is definitely running, just shut off windows mobile via holding the power and hitting yes... even though i can't see anything...
But I am still convinced this is a software issue, because other than holding my phone and playing with it... I can't imagine that it was caused from hardware.
Gone into bootloader mode (power + ok + reset)... and it allows me to flash from there. Flashing OS 5.2.20748 (Build 20748.1.4.0 PV DVH) Black(Full) NoBS V22... see what happens.. 50%!
Flashing new Rom worked just fine, white screen is fixed...
Obviously a software issue.. I would only have to assume that .net was corrupted by palm messenger. Hope anyone else out there finds this information useful.
You could've just HRed the Hermes too... That would've reset back to "factory"... Just like re-installing a rom...
Cheers...

Huge activesync problem.

Hello guys and gals. I messed up the phone again, but this time hard reset is not an option so I need a way to fix it. I installed the activesync killer (I believe that app caused my problems) from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386948
At first i thought it worked fine, but then every time i disconnected my phone from the PC the phone froze. I uninstalled it, but the problem was still there.
Today it got even worse. I cannot connect to my PC neither via activesync nor using the x1 as a flash drive. !!!!!!
Has anyone of you encountered such a problem and is there a way to fix this without hard resetting the device. Maybe a way to reinstall the async on the Xperia?
Help pl0x???
did u try resetting it via the small button at the battery?

That is a restart of the phone. A soft-reset. I do it 10 times a day .
Anyone?
(hidden bump)
Ok, i got some development with it. I reinstalled wktask and the freezing is gone. Now the only problem left is that i cannot connect neither with the activesync (the phones says connecting forever), nor with the microSD (the PC says invalid location drive:I). I'm pretty sure i messed up some drivers. Is there a way to reinstall the connectivity drivers?

touch screen not working after restart??

Touch screen isn't workin after restart.
so i install the driver, and it's workin fine untill i restart.
I really appreciate the help.
More info needed if you want help - start with what OS you are using, what drivers are you installing, etc...
I left my crystal ball at work
More Info
I have windows xp tablet pc my drivers are from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=436982
and i also added the swapresolution and astray.
If there is any info you need tell me.
While writing the touchscreen driver for FreeBSD i managed to get the controller hanging somehow and it only worked in WinMo until i pulled the battery from the shift to 'reset' it.
I'm trying hard to get reproduce this problem again to try and find a software way to fix it.
You may wanna try this one.. chance is you got the same problem i had.

[Q] Help! HTC HD T8282 doesn't respond at the password screen

I just set a 4 digit password on my HTC HD T8282 a few days ago. Its worked fine for several days - when I turn it on and enter the 4 digit code, everything is fine. But a couple days ago I turned it on and the password screen shows the number pad, but when I touch the numbers, nothing happens (usually I would see an * for each digit I press), but nothing happens when I touch the digits now, however I can press the "Menu" button on the bottom right of the screen and get a selection of Reset Password or Cancel - but the only option that can be selected is cancel (the 'Reset Password' option is greyed out).
Any idea how I fix this, I can't use may phone now!
I'm trying to avoid doing a hard reset if I can.
Any suggestions???
it might be an issue with your touch screen calibration, have you tried connecting and controlling the device using a windows pc and mymobiler?
Interesting! I did notice that the screen calibration was off one day and recalibrated it and everything seemed fine after that. But I'll definitely give this a try! I'll let you know what happend too.
Thanks for the quick response!

I downloaded mymobiler v1.25 and intalled it. My PC is running Windows XP and I use ActiveSync v4.5. ActiveSync is able to connect to my pnone when its connected to my PC but I can't get mymobiler to connect to it.
I see the mymobiler icon in the system tray but it gives a "not connected" message if I place the mouse cursor over the icon. Also, if I click the icon and get the menu, even if I click "Connect" nothing seems to happen.
Also, the mymobiler screen doesn't show when I select "Open Mobiler".
Anything I'm doing wrong?
that reminds me of the question i should have asked in the first place:
did you set the password with the windows mobile built-in security feature or using a 3rd party software?
background: the windows mobile's own security is meant to prevent proper activesync connections, because, without entering the password, you are not supposed to be able to sync data or access the phone, in that case, activesync should ask you for your 4 digit password, before the connection is really established.
also, if i remember correctly from my blueangel (which had a password bug with cooked roms), a hard reset wouldn't even be enough to unlock the phone again, because potential thieves could do that as well and had a brand new phone on their hands. so only flashing the device with another rom did the trick.
assuming that, as a reasonable windows mobile user, you create regular pim backups, either using pimbackup, MS myphone or outlook sync, you might be better off, just flashing the rom again, performing a hard reset and start over. after all, as of now, your phone is only a useless brick and being able to use such a great device again should be worth more than a few sms or the 90-120 minutes it takes you to flash the device and set it up again and install your apps.

Its the Window's built in security feature.
It seems as the activeSync works to update my Microsoft Outlook with information from my phone while connected to my PC. But Mymobiler doesn't connect to the phone.
I wouldn't even know where to start for flashing the rom - never done that, looks like I'm going to have to do some reading on the forum...
UPDATE: I did a hard reset on my phone and now after booting, it shows a screen alignment screen and I keep pressing on the screen where the marker is, each time the marker moves to the next location (center then each corner of the screen). After I finish with each location, the process starts all over again - it just keeps doing this.
Any idea what is wrong now???
if it just keeps starting over, the points you pressed were too far off the regular grid, so the device "doesn't believe it". you should have a look at your screen, whether somewhere there might be a tiny peace of dirt or an air bubble under the screenprotector or something like that. since the blackstone lacks multitouch, when it detects 2 display touches, the relative center of the 2 points pressed is the touch point it recognizes. say, you have dirt pressing your display in the top left, you are aligning the screen at the bottom right, it will determine the relative middle of the display as touched point.
so what i'm trying to say is:
either your screen has some hidden peace of dirt somewhere, which would mean, clean it thoroughly, OR your display is starting to fail due to a hardware defect, caused probably by the device's age and everyday wear and tear. in that case, have a look at ebay for the digitizer+lcd combo, download the blackstone service manual and exchange the display. also, in case you need to buy spare parts, be advised that the price for a used blackstone, depending on your location, might only be as high as 80-180$ (which makes some spare parts heavily overpriced in comparison to the price of the device itself).
Thanks again Chef Tony! I'll give that a try.
I was just looking at ebay for a digitizer+LCD combo and saw this but also saw a digitizer only which was much cheaper. Since my LCD screen appears to be fine (image on the screen visible), do I need the Combo, or will the digitizer only work (or is it much easier to install the combo, etc?) Since I've never done this, just wondering...
i believe there are a few other threads on this forum dealing with both the installation of the digitizer only and the combo. the problem appears to be that the lcd and the digitizer are glued together, which makes it very hard to separate your original unit and there is a risk of harming your lcd in the process, which makes the repair more expensive. personally i'd go for the combo for more convenience.

Thanks - that make sense. I'll look at getting a combo. I found the post with pics about replacing it on the forum and hopefully that does it for me. Thanks so much for all of your help!
Thanks Chef_Tony! Got the combo unit and installed it today - phone is back up and running! Thanks for all of your help!
I found a good video on disassembly and reassembly on the web, just in case anyone else needs it, here's the location:

[Q] Touch is not working

I do have HTC Touch with Windows OS 6.1. My Touch screen is not behaving perfectly. It is getting disabled and not allowing to do any thing there. Some time it starts working but touch event is not performing action at right location. Please let me know how to resolve it. Because of this it is not Syncing with My Laptop. Also let me know how can i backup my SMS and Phone book from my cell and restore then after.
You can use My Mobiler to control your device from laptop but only if ActiveSync is connected. If not, backup to your SdCard with Pim Backup, then try a hard reset to see if you have a better touch response. It's also possible your digitizer is faulty and has to be replaced.
It should most probably be a digitizer problem. I have changed them myself twice.

i guess its already been solved, but i had the same problem a few weeks ago.
actually the lower half of the screen worked well, anything upper was made its action on the bottom area, so it was hard to tap on anything but i could navigate to the calibration menu somehow - i thought that would make it work, coz i knwe at first that it must be a software problem besides a hardware thing.. so the calibration didnt worked ive made a hard reset and everything is working just like before.
i hope it can help to others..
