Weird Brick, Up all last night researching - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hey guys, I need some advice. My phone sound went out and when I shut it down (via holding side power button in and touchscreening) it came up in bootloader. Reset it and it booted to wm6 for a few, though still silent I reset/ battery removal/soft reset a few times. After a few minutes of tinkering it would only come up in bootloader.
I used mtty to set 14 0 it says and soft (stylus bottom) reset and still tribars so then set 16 0 , same
So I have tried to reflash it several times, with crcs newest rom and the official att rom, pays newest, a bunch of different one, it looks like it takes. I have flashed to all these as well as schaps before and never had a problem.
So anyhow the flash looks like it takes, the meter on the pc and phones slowly tick to 100% and it comes up and says CONGRATULATIONS! You have been successful" or whatever on the pc, but then the phone just stays at bootloader. Exactly the same.
So again I use mtty to set 14 0 and 16 0 and soft reset.....
same thing.
I used some other mtty commands i cant remeber, like the format nand command, info 8 didnt show any bad blocks the radio command, i think rtask a and rtask b returned bad command.
When it powers on, it goes straight to tri bar bootloader screen with
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.10.olipro
at the top and
serial at the bottom, which changes to usb when I plug in.
after it is powered on it wont respond to any buttons and I must take the battery out to get it off.
Mtty seems to connect but then I cant get to the radio menu, i tried rtask a, rtask b, and even rtask 7 all returned then same invalid command message.
One interesting note. When I do the set 14 0 it says
Write Nand Success
HTCST ÚÈÒHTCE
The 16 0 is a clean write nand success.
This the same string that comes up for the info command that returns the crypto string.
This phone was a stock att cingular 8525 that i upgraded. I never did anything to unlock it. Do I need to? Is that why the crypto comes up when I try to set 14 to 0....but it does say succesful.
Well my download of another "official" att rom is done, I tried the one linked from the htc page, now i am trying one linked from somewhere on the board. I am off to flash it.
Thanks everyone for your time. Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated. I know alot about pc's but not phone stuff like cid stuff...

Orange SPV M3100 not booting anymore

Hello, can somebody please help me?
I have an Orange SPV M3100 which worked "almost" fine until today (except for some problems receiving SMSes).
Today I've made several registry changes in order to unhide the GPS in Settings/System and to move the Internet Explorer cache, cookies and history to the MicroSD card. Nothing else.
I've also installed some software (everything was "official", i.e. no hacks): 3 or 4 applications plus RSAENH_ENG.exe - the "High Encryption Pack for Pocket PC" from Microsoft - which requested a reboot. I decided to reboot it myself later.
Half an hour later the phone was still connected with the USB cable to the PC and working properly. Suddenly ActiveSync on PC said it's "not connected" anymore. At the same time ActiveSync on phone said is was "connected" (!) I tried several times to close ActiveSync on the phone with no success, so I disconnected the USB cable and rebooted the phone.
Now the phone doesn't boot anymore!!! AAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!! :-(((
It just hangs forever with the Orange logo (NOT the Windows Mobile logo!) on screen immediately after reporting the numbers/versions. After some time (20-30 seconds) the backlight goes out but the Orange logo remains on the screen and NOTHING happens. Even if I take out the battery the Orange logo persists on the screen for quite a long time! Please note that this is neither a solid white screen, the Windows Mobile logo or the bootloader tri-color screen (to which I can get if I hold OK and power buttons and reset).
The phone does exactly the same after any number of soft resets :-(
I can _sometimes_ perform a hard reset (because most of the time it seems it does just a regular soft reset). I chose NOT to reset to factory settings because (and this is my problem!) I NEED TO SAVE the notes and the short messages database! I can discard everything else, but I really need to save those notes and SMSes...
Is there any hope? I searched and read the forum/wiki for some hours already but I have to admit I don't even know what exactly to look for! And I also have to admit I'm quite scared I may lose the notes & messages...
I honestly appreciate any idea as long as it doesn't imply losing that data! Please post your replies here, on the forum.
THANKS A LOT!!!
Regards,
Dan
Would you be able to return it to Orange under a warranty issue?
Do you have the Orange Care Insurance
Sorry if I'm not helpful
Sure, but not yet

I guess that would be no problem. But I want to avoid at all costs the reset to factory defaults! This is why I would like to try myself first.

tried the mtty.exe trick...
Somewhere on this page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems
it says "Open mtty.exe and select "USB" from the dialog box, then hit Ok."
Well, I tried that but I only have COM1 & COM2 as available options for "Port"...
Any idea?
Dan
mtty options
Choosing COM1 results in "COM1 port can not open"
Choosing COM2 results in the mentioned white screen but with no prompt. Pressing Enter does nothing.
Still no USB option - also tried rebooting the PC and playing with "Allow USB connections" & "Allow connections to one of the following"...
Any idea? At least some pointers... pleaseeee....?
Regards,
Dan
got usb in mtty
OK, if I first put the phone in bootloader mode and only then connect it to PC USB I get the USB port option in mtty. I do:
USB>set 14 0
Write Nand Success
HTCST ÚÈÒHTCEUSB>
USB>
then soft reset and it's exactly the same problem (stuck with Orange logo during boot)...
:-(((
some more info...
Hi!
According to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286755
my phone is a type 2b brick: when the phone boots, it stays in subslpash screen (htc or operator logo - Orange in my case)
I installed USB Monitor to provide a USB monitor capture in ANSI text format. However I see that in order to do that I have to "upgrade using the normal procedure (RomUpgradeUt.exe)". My question is: would that erase user data (i.e. notes & messages) from the phone's memory?
Thanks!
Dan
This is all the information I have for the time being. I am looking to find out how to extract the rest:
Model: Orange SPV M3100
NOT flashed at all by me
Bootloader: 1.04
Stuck In Bootloader: No
Stuck On Operator Logo: Yes
Stuck On Windows Mobile Splash: No
Can boot into OS: No
Tried mtty command set 14 0: Yes
Tried wiki problem number 5: No
mtty info 2 output: HTCSORANG008GܲHTCEUSB>
Current Device Status: unusable
mtty info 7 output:
HTC Integrated Re-Flash Utility, Common Base Version : 1.50a
Device Name: H, Bootloader Version : 1.04
Built at: May 26 2006 20:17:35
Copyright (c) 1998-2006 High Tech Computer Corporation
CPU ID=0x41129200
Main CPLD version=0x5
Upper CPLD version=0x4
Main Board version=0x6
additional info - is it any good?
I have no idea what these codes are, but at startup the phone displays on the bottom-left:
M 05
S 04
B 06 D 1.23
And then very briefly it also displays on right:
R 1.06.04.00
G 32.37.7010.01H
And then it just hangs with the Orange logo...
You still stuck??
I have something you can try but it will wipe all your data, but you wont have to flash another ROM
Ok, you gone offline now.
If you want to try, whilst Orange splash screen is there, press and hold both left and right softkeys and soft reset. Will be presented with a white screen with a choice to wipe or not. Use the corresponding button on keyboard to wipe phone.
By looking at your mtty readout i do not think your device is bricked. Just think you may have installed something that your device doesnt agree with. Saves having to reflash or replace under warrenty.
REMEMBER ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE WILL BE LOST
S.K.
Yes, it's still the same... But I'm going to bed now because it's already 5:25 AM here and I have to wake up in 1.5 hours
Please let me know what I should try (and the consequences if you are so kind)
Cheers!

To be honest mate, i cant see any other way. The only way to see what wnet wrong is to get into the OS and unfortunately that doesnt seem as its going to happen.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but many of us have had to go through with data loss, just another "undocumented feature" of a Windows Mobile device.
Best of luck, let me know how you get on.

Radio Rom messed up.

Hi, I just bought this phone off craiglist and the sell isn't picking up my calls anymore.
She sold me a corrupt radio rom phone and i can't seem to fix it.
I read all the guides and spent the whole night trying to fix it.
after failing many times, and desperate for help, I'm starting a new thread.
What i know:
this problem started when i tried to unlock my phone with the unlocker v3. the phone kept stopping at 0% and none of the recovery steps work.
I tried hard SPL and it worked. and OS only rom works.
so I have a type 1A brick.
My phone says:
Herm100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.10.Olipro
NO GSM on OS start up.
I tried this fix:
but the problem is, my MTTY, does not show USB, it says CMD, not matter how many times i press enter.
METHOD 1
Disable activesync on your computer by right click on activesync icon -> connection settings -> uncheck "allow USB connections".
Put your Hermes in bootloader mode
Connect device to computer using USB cable.
Open mtty.exe and select USB port, then connect.
Hit enter twice, you will see the "USB>" prompt.
Type the following commands (do not copy paste!!!)
USB> password BsaD5SeoA
USB> set 1e 1
USB> erase a0040000 c80000
USB> erase a0cc0000 c80000
USB> erase a1940000 640000
USB> set 1e 0
after i do all this, I press the ok (the one of the left side) button and power button and reset to get back into bootloader.
then i run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from Unlocker V3
and i still get 0%. whats going on?
any help would be great.
I don't know what i'm doing wrong, I read people are getting it to work with this method, but it's not working for me.
Thanks
Edit:
can somone tell me thats this means in mtty?

Ok, I was able to flash a Rom with Radio rom on it,
I tried to flash this rom on my phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371266
and it fails at 0%, then i use a att rom and flashing it to the phone works!
I got my radio rom back, but I only see the radio when there is no sim card inside.
But as soon as i put in a sim card, NO GSM comes back.
does anyone know why?
thanks in advance!

that rom u tried to flash is not made for the hermes
Yes, i know, But i read from barton on another thread, he used a Hima rom and it worked.
so it worked for me too. it doesn't really get to flash it. It stops at 0%.
I also flash it with active sync.
I just need to get the radio working with Sim again now.
maybe other should try what i did too.
oh oh.....its coming back to me now......installing the hima rom reformats the radio sector or something like that. i remember reading about this some time ago.....and i think pof managed to replicate that process, so you dont actually have to install the hima rom. the link is in the wiki somewhere
I tried most of the stuff on the wiki none of them work, but can you point me to it anyway? maybe i missed it.
thanks.
edit:
i tried fixing it using unlock version V3a, but it screws up my radio again.
going to try V2a next.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems#problem5
here's the link, but it looks like you already tried it. see the links at the bottom of that section, the "related forum threads"
thanks but i tried that.
Ok, i reflash hima rom. and this time, i did the unlockv3a flash.
now my radio is back with the sim in.
but i lose my sim connection when i try to call.
thanks in advance.
Edit:
WHAT THE HELL!!! ARGH I'm so close!!!
the No GSM thing is random, it comes and goes away.
how can I make it stay?
thanks in advance.
I get 0% flashing now too.
Had a hellish time, my radio seems to have been dying over weeks with more and more "no gsm" message regardless of the radio version.
Tried the official t-mobile uk wm6 rom and it crashed (no percentage dialog appeared on the mobile, only the "usb" connected tri colour)
Now when I tried to go to radio 1.50 it is stuck at 0%
Eventually disconnected it and I get the tricolour now and nothing seems to work
try using Mtty, and select USB in the drop down.
Then in the cmd> area, type "set 16 0"
should bring u back to OS with radio still screwy.
then try that Hima Rom link i posted 1 page back.
When flashing the hima rom, just stop it once it says there's an error.
then flash it with a normal rom with radio.
thats how i got my radio back, but it's still screwy.
I wonder if anyone here can help out.
Thanks

That has worked so for, thanks.
FYI I have a bad block (638) which "task 2a" seems to do nothing too.
What is the proper output of a successful task 2a?
Will try the rom soon.
I downloaded the rom but neither exe works.
Sorry a bit of a noob at this.
What I do now?
did u enable active sync and use the NO-ID.exe?
note:cross post
sorry for the late reply
i have been dealing with this for 3 days and finally managed to run official AT&T rom for 4 days wout hard reset.
there is a method dumping an official himalaya rom to hermes. az pof explained in one of his posts all commands except radio commands are different in himalaya so it is safe to use dumping method.
it basically deletes everything in radio rom so you can install official rom.
PS: at first install official rom stucked %12 i said damn but in second try %15 third try; success
i am at work now i dont have the link of method but try googling or searching my posts (not too much )
i hope it solves your problem
bartan
does NO GSM still appear once in awhile?
thanks
Hi
I am back. I have been trying to rom update but no luck so far. It just stalls at 12%.
I gave up on this.
it cost 270 ish to repair it from HTC.
so i drew my phone against the wall and it felt a lot better.
still works tho.
for 270 ish, I can get a new phone.
It lives!!!!!
I used the official HTC rom including radio.
Firstly I put the phone in bootloader mode.
I then ran MTTY and executed:
Code:
USB> password BsaD5SeoA
USB> set 1e 1
USB> erase a0040000 c80000
USB> erase a0cc0000 c80000
USB> erase a1940000 640000
USB> set 1e 0
I then ran:
Code:
USB> info8 (which returned a bad block - 638)
USB> task 2a
I then closed mtty but did not reboot my phone.
I then ran the rom update utility with the rom and the phone flashed fully (give it plenty of time).
Who knows how stable it will be but damn it feels good to have my phone back.
Calls out are confirmed working so far.
Good luck all
CONGRATS!
for me None of those commands work.
I kept getting errors.
hey zero when you're in bootloader how did you get mtty to work? it keeps saying "usb port cannot open" when i try

How to repair/reformat damaged mDOC chip?

Hi,
I have HTC Artemis (P3300) ARTE100 which is CID locked and SIM unlocked.
Phone was making some strange problems, would not show battery charge status even if battery was charging (checked with voltmeter), vibration would not stop on received SMS etc... So I decided to reflash it. I have used original ROM from HTC site based on device serial number. It was "original" HTC_P3300_WWE_3.13.405.1_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship_R.exe
Flashing completed with 100% and "rebooted" but did not came back. After 15-20 minutes I tried to turn it on/off, reset but did not worked. So I pulled the battery out. After this I can't turn on the device anymore on power button. It will not respond to it.
Then, I have tried to hard reset the device. It showed the confirmation screen but after reboot I get green screen as in attachment. Even then/after it will not respond to power button.
It responds and want to enter into boot loader. Tried to do "plain USB" flash again but it did again as first time. Also SDCard flashing did not worked, just shows something like "checking sd card" but will go into tricolor boot loader.
Then I did something very stupid. In MTTY I was testing out different commands I have found. One of them was "doctest 1". I have found later that you should NEVER run that because it will overwrite CID/radio/security... section in mDOC chip.
Now if I try to flash with ANY ROM it will report different things.
* ERROR 244 (Invalid Model ID)
* ERROR 270 (Update Error - The image file is corrupted)
* ERROR 294 (Invalid Vendor ID)
After this I have tried MANY things which can be found on this site... but for most of them I MUST be able to boot WinCE to be able to flash new USPL/CID unlock trick.
Also, I have found that some models can be reflashed with JTAG but not this model. Am I correct?
So, my question is. Is there any way to reformat or reprogram (with JTAG) HTC P3300 and how to do it?
I have another (working and completely CID/SIM unlocked) P3300 which I could use as "donor" but I do not know how to "copy" the chips.
Any ideas?
i have a same problem help please

Device shows NO GSM when booting - R NONE

Hy all,
I have an HTC Advantage X7500 and i have this problem, the device shows R NONE when i am booting , and i don't have signal for phone.
I found this solution on hermes wiki.
The phone is unlocked and it have SPL 1.20
ROM : Athena Project Black Dual by PK 3.0 (SPL 1.2)
Problem 5: Device shows NO GSM when booting
* The radio stack is screwed, you don't get GSM signal and the phone says unknown SIM status
* Device won't start after trying to unlock it with HTC Universal Unlocker (HTC_Uni_SIM_Unlock_v1)
Here is how to fix it:
METHOD 1
1. Disable activesync on your computer by right click on activesync icon -> connection settings -> uncheck "allow USB connections".
2. Put your Hermes in bootloader mode
3. Connect device to computer using USB cable.
4. Open mtty.exe and select USB port, then connect.
5. Hit enter twice, you will see the "USB>" prompt.
6.
Type the following commands (do not copy paste!!!)
USB> password 0000000000000000
USB> set 1e 1
USB> erase a0040000 c80000
USB> erase a0cc0000 c80000
USB> erase a1940000 640000
USB> set 1e 0
7. If the password does not work, try password BsaD5SeoA
8. Reset your phone and put it back in bootloader mode
9. If your bootloader version is different than 1.04 then Flash Bootloader version 1.04 (if you can't flash the bootloader version 1.04 (for what ever reason) and you have KITL enabled Rom, then there is final solution - PB_KITL_HERMES))
10. Flash the patched radio used to simunlock the Hermes
11. Your phone should be alive again
Can everyone tell if that trick works on x7500? i should try this?
Sorry for my english...
I also had problems with radio and my x7500, however during my forum research I did never encounter your advice as a possible solution.
Are you sure that another radio upgrade with r1.57 or 1.58won't help?
Setting something on a different device without even knowing its effect or even worse erasing data...I wouldn't do that.
Last radio that i instaled on device is 1.58 and nothing was happening.
I had exactly this problem on my hermes/tytn. Suddenly after a reboot it showed No Gsm message and had no signal. Tried other wm5/wm6 rom, tried flashing other radio roms but no effect. When I was flashing radio even though the process was reaching to 100% and the device rebooted, same message occured.
As a final and hopeless solution I tried a SuperCID ( even though my device was already supercid half a year ago)... and this WORKED!!! don't know or how but this definitely solved my problem. I then realised that the Cid process downgraded the radio to a very old version. After that I flashed a newer radio version and my device came back as before.
Isn't there a SuperCID tool for Advantage? I don't recomend you to use the tool intended for hermes, don't mess too much with the radio rom or you will get a brick instead of ppc. As a consolation, your problem is almost 100% a software error, not a hardware malfunction (as long as you din't dropped or smasshed your device), so if you'd have the appropriate tool you should be able to fix it at home
Only supercid prog for the Athena I'm aware of is the original unlocker (thread found here). Tough choice, since you'd have to hard reset too...:-(
Perhaps you should try to send a pm senior member cmonex, if anyone can help you with the bootloader and mtty commands then its cmonex.

A problem about my elf

hello, I am a new here. and my Elf got a serious problem, I don't know what to do. About 5 days before, my elf fall into water, and I send it to repair. When I got it back, the repairman said your software maybe broke, so he advice me to flash the phone again, and I never done it before. so I try it myself today. now, this phone cannot boot the system, it enter a page tell you startup failed cause suddenly loss power and let me press ok to continue, but when i press ok, it turn off automaticlly.
There is some imformation below:
my CID is not cracked yet.
IPL:2.24.0002
SPL:2.24.0000
I can enter bootloader and connect to USB
I make a goldencard already and it's seems working, mtty shows:
Unlimited time!
g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0
I tried so many different roms and they are all stop flashing at 2%
So, now I don't know what should or can I do?
plzzzzz, i don't have spare mobile to use, thx a lot for help.
I am sorry something forgot to post
Device ID : ELF010052
CID : DOPOD601
I can't find my rom in here so I try goldencard and try to match the Device ID and also doesn't work.
Hi
First go to the stickies and find how to Cid unlock, then you can flash any rom, provided there's no physical damage to the device.
Good luck
first try a hard-reset
