i'm not sure what happened, comm manager is gone, when i lauch comm manager from program menu, i only see a transparent 'phone' in the background, and then what page freeze and nothing happens.
I tried to install a new 6 button colored comm manager, 10 button comm manager, it says 'install was unsuccessful, the program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permission.'
i'm not sure is wrong, can anybody help?
Yes you ****ed it up. you partially overwrote the original 6 tab comm manager with the incompatible 10 buttons comm manager. You screwed it up.
Try to identify all the files which belong to the comm manager and delete them out of the windows directory (a couple graphics files and an exe). This way you'll get the default one back which is undeletable in the ROM. Then, after that, install Schaps advanced config tool and use it to set your polaris to use the 6 tabbed comm manager. If this is too much and you dont feel like doing all that, hardreset your device.
In case you want to go the hardreset way and if you intend to do a complete system backup and put it back onto the device, the problem will be backed up as well and put back on the system with the restore. Only back up your personal databases and text messages and then hardreset. I recommend PIMBackup 2.8 for that task.

Is this the Comm Manager?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1400090&postcount=838
If I look the name I guess is only for Kaiser, maybe I'm wrong
which file control comm manager? and which function in Schaps advanced config tool control the tabs?
i'm using bepe wm6.1, the comm manager can hold 6 tab by default. I just tried 6 tab colored and 10 tab like the one mormy described in the post, they actually worked before it disappeared.
In Schaps tool it's under the menu softkey.
Use a file manager which can hide files which reside in the ROM (resco for example). Then have a look at the graphic files which reside in the windows directory and look like they belong to the comm manager. That way you'll figure out which files to delete. But honestly I think you'll end up doing a hardreset anyway because you most likely wont get it to work anymore. Registry is screwed up, files and filenames dont match anymore, the mess is probably too big to fix.

I can't seem to figure out how people restore their apps, data, ActiveSync, etc. after updating their ROMs. It seems like people on this site replace their ROMs a few times a year at least, and with all the cleverness required to follow all the ROM issues, surely you can't all be manually re-installing every single app every time, etc. Are there some tools I don't know about that are useful for backing up/restoring files before/after ROM burn? Every backup program I see says you must not use it to restore after ROM update (which I understand, since you don't want to restore old versions of many key files). But surely someone could create a backup/restore app which knows which things should NOT be restored.
Thanks!
I do rom upgrades quite frequently, now I can have my device back with my settings and programs installed in around 10 minutes, here's what I did:
1)Install registry workshop on your desktop computer, this program allows you to remotely browse / export the registry on the PocketPC and compare current regitry settings on PocketPC with a previously dumped registry file.
2) Install RegDiff on your desktop computer, it allows you to generate .reg files out of two exported registry dumps done by registry workshop.
3) Spend a few hours going setting-by-setting and exporting the registry after changing each setting, compare and generate .reg file for that. Keep in mind that sometimes you need to power off the device for a while or soft reset for the registry setting to be permanently stored.
4) Once you have all the .reg files for your settings combine them in a single .reg file
5) Use WinCE Cab Manager to combine the cabs of all the programs you install, set the registry settings, and put shorcuts to all applications into the right places. This is the most "time consuming" part of the process.
Finally I end up with 2 big cab files:
- First one is around 9Mb which I install on pocketpc memory, this includes all today screen plugins, plus Net CF 2.1 and some registry settings (mostly WM5 settings and preferences from the today plugins)
- Second one is around 25Mb which i install on storage card, this includes all the other 3rd party apps I like and registry settings for those apps.
What I do after hard reset or rom upgrade: Install the two cab files, setup mail accounts and mms manually and use directpush to sync all my contacts and calendar items again.
The process of exporting all the registry settings is a PITA, but it is worth spending the time if you're going to switch roms frequently.
Look for an app called Sprite Backup.

Yup, Sprite is the easiest. Be warned, however, that it isn't able to restore PIM databases over the AKU3 upgrade. See my Backup Bible, where I;ve explained this all.
Wow, thanks. That's a lot of work to get things set up! Clearly worth it if you can re-install everything in 10 minutes, though.
I started to investigate your recommendations, installed Cab Manager, and see how you use that.
How do you get the cabs if the install isn't directly via cab? In other words, if the install is initiated via ActiveSync, then are the necessary cabs always found under the Program Files\ActiveSync directory?
As for Sprite Backup, it looks great, and maybe that would be enough for me for now. I wasn't clear (I did search through and skim the Backup Bible and the WM5 backup software comparisons but couldn't find exactly where it talked about the issue regarding AKU3) is the PIM issue a known bug? Or some limitation/problem related to new security or something?

If it's installed via activesync you can find them there, but generally what I do is extract the cab files from the exe using orange in Linux, don't know if there's a windows equivalent.
pof,
Don't know if you ever ActiveSync since you use Linux, but is there a way to NOT break your ActiveSync by upgrading your ROM? I thought I tried once, years ago, to set the device name back to the original name and ActiveSync still didn't recognize it as the old partnership.

If it doesn't recognize it, just delete the old partnership and recreate / reconfigure it . It's just some seconds.
hey there. i have another question unfortunately . ive installed FtouchFlo 1.4.1 and then i installed SCLPF 1-62. of course i also installed adobe flash lite player v.2.1.7.2.14.99 before all that. i got everything to work, the only question i still have is how i can assign a few things like comm manager to the icon in sclpf. i did everything according to instructions where it was mentioned that you have to simply copy the program u wanted into Windows ==> Start Menu ==> Programs and then you are able to choose it in the cube settings. but with things like the comm manager it didnt work and also, can u actually assign a folder to an icon?

The registry values for the blackstone dialer, for some reason, have stayed in your registry even after you uninstalled it... Its no biggie, just open the cab you installed it with WinCE CAB Manager (or equivalent software) and check the values it entered in your registry. Then use a Registry editor to restore the normal values.
Same goes for comm manager.
sigh..
still cant work this out..
any more suggestions?
thanks
try using sktools to clean the registry
I have HTC Touch Pro 2 from Verizon and am moderately tech-savvy.
I now know how to teather (using one of the tutorials on the site for VZW phones), but at first I tried to install and run the MobilWifiRouter app for my phone. As I ran the .cab file (or whatever the instructions were), it said I had insufficient privileges.
Now when i try to go into the comm manager, it gives me the error "Comm Manager doesn't support "MobilWifiRouter"...", and once I click ok the screen closes. So I cannot access it and i cannot directly remove it through the remove programs function.
I would ideally like to have it work, but if I can't I can just uninstall it.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Axe
Edit: (I also tried installing the new version 1.1, even though it said that it couldn't fully delete the old version. It too says that it doesn't have sufficient system permissions and comm manager still doesnt support "mobilwifirouter"
Any advice?
Double bump...
install these and the program will be in your start > all programs
Although installing those does enable the wifi sharing, it still does not allow me go into comm manager. Should i just reset my phone and re-do it or is there a simple fix.
Also, is 6.5 out and supported by verizon wireless?
one of your prior cabs probably messed something up. i would start from scratch and install those two.
Will the above files work on a stock ROM?
(USCC and mobile 6.5 if it makes a difference.)
nvm it's running perfectly!
I use the windows internet sharing utility, hidden by verizon in the Windows folder.
I have a t-mobile HD2 and everytime I launch the internet browser (Opera) it brings up this really annoying "Do you want to go online?" warning. This happens whether Opera is launched from the Sense UI or directly from the start menu.
I can not find anything in the registry to remove this. I have also noticed in the \Windows folder that there is a "BrandedBrowser.exe", which seems to be the cause, because if I run it (and Opera is not already running) then it brings up the warning and then launches Opera, however, if I run the OperaL.exe file directly then it doesnt display the warning.
How can I modify the Sense UI so that it launches the OperaL.exe instead of the BrandedBrowser.exe?
Any ideals peeps?
To launch OperaL.exe as the default instead of BrandedBrowser.exe just use a program like total commander to rename Brandedbrowser to brandedbrowser_bkp.exe (just so you have a backup copy should you ever need it), then make a copy of operaL.exe and rename it as BrandedBrowser.exe
Make sure it stays in the windows directory.
I just tried this myself and it worked.
The branding still appears but it doesn't ask me if i want to go online anymore
Thanks very much
I can't seem to do this. I have Total Commander installed but whenever I change the file properties to uncheck System and Read Only, it just reverts back so that I can't rename or delete it.
How do I do this?

Strange. When I did it, I didn't change any of the files properties. I just renamed it. Make sure the browser isn't running in the background. You can close it fully with the task manager. If it is running perhaps you can't edit the file name.
Perfect. I must have had the browser running in the background without realising last time. I've just had another go with the stock File Manager and it's worked a treat
Now.....I just need to find a way of switching off HSDPA (but keeping 3G) switched on in this T-Mobile UK 1.43 ROM

That's the easy part
Go to Settings, Menu, All Settings, Connections, and Advanced Network. It's the 1st option you'll see.
Unfortunately it seems to be missing from this ROM. In advanced settings I have 3 tabs: GPRS (authentication method), CSD Line Type and SMS Service. I think T-Mobile have removed it for some reason.
Is there a registry key I can change?

I had the same problem.
I thought it might've been because I was using an old version of Total Commander, so I updated that to the latest one but it still wouldn't work.
To fix the problem I copied the original read only files to my PC desktop, unticked the read only attribute, copied them to my SD card, then moved them from there back into the Windows directory on the phone, and finally changed the file names.
I rebooted the phone to make sure the changes had stuck, and they had.
Much rejoicing was made.
If I can find a way to switch HSDPA off and keep 3G on, and improve general stability I'll be 99.9% happy with the HD2. If only I could update the ROM without voiding the warranty
Come on T-Mobile, hurry up an release a 1.48 ROM!!!!! :
