I have HTC Touch Pro 2 from Verizon and am moderately tech-savvy.
I now know how to teather (using one of the tutorials on the site for VZW phones), but at first I tried to install and run the MobilWifiRouter app for my phone. As I ran the .cab file (or whatever the instructions were), it said I had insufficient privileges.
Now when i try to go into the comm manager, it gives me the error "Comm Manager doesn't support "MobilWifiRouter"...", and once I click ok the screen closes. So I cannot access it and i cannot directly remove it through the remove programs function.
I would ideally like to have it work, but if I can't I can just uninstall it.
Thanks for any help in advance,
Axe
Edit: (I also tried installing the new version 1.1, even though it said that it couldn't fully delete the old version. It too says that it doesn't have sufficient system permissions and comm manager still doesnt support "mobilwifirouter"
Any advice?
Double bump...
install these and the program will be in your start > all programs
Although installing those does enable the wifi sharing, it still does not allow me go into comm manager. Should i just reset my phone and re-do it or is there a simple fix.
Also, is 6.5 out and supported by verizon wireless?
one of your prior cabs probably messed something up. i would start from scratch and install those two.
Will the above files work on a stock ROM?
(USCC and mobile 6.5 if it makes a difference.)
nvm it's running perfectly!
I use the windows internet sharing utility, hidden by verizon in the Windows folder.

Sorry for this stupid question but this is my third day of having a windows mobile 5 xda (the cingular 8125) and I'm having problems installing .cab files. I started with the "DJVW HTC Wizard Optimizer 2.0.cab". I moved the cab to the root directory of the device, tapped on it, and it went through the progress bar, told me that it had installed, but then when I went to look for the newly installed program, i couldn't find it anywhere. I also tried this with a few games and other apps. What am I doing wrong that it keeps telling me that it installed fine, but I can't find the programs. Thanks for your help in this.

You may have tried but have you used explorer to check if the files have installed under "Programs"? I've often seen cab files install but the shortcuts not get installed though the programs are there. If you find them then connect to your PC and use explore from Activesync, create shortcust and drop them in the windows\start menu folder.
Yeah, I have tried that... I even tried to a search for the files to no avail. Any other ideas? I really appriciate the help.
You've got me stumped. Personally I always drop the cabs on the SD card and install from there thats the only thing I can see different. Maybe it's a problem with dropping it in the root directory - have you tried dropping it under the programs folder and then installing?
correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the wizard optimizer cab just tweak a few settings/registey values? a cab of this nature will not show up in your programs list because it isn't a program, it just changes stuff. this is normal, the same thing happened when i installed some camera tweaking cabs. so the cab has worked fine, done its job, there is nothing else you need to do.
Hi
I've experienced lots of problems with the Wizard's midlet manager, especially when trying to use Opera Mini.
It sees I've got a working connection, but when loading any web page I get an error message - critical error kind of thing.
I hard reset my Vario several times hoping it would solve the problem... in vain.
has any update to the Midlet Manager been released? And where to get it from? I checked the TAO site, but no downloads are available from their site (they seem to ship direct to HTC and the likes).
Alternatively, what is the work around? I want to use the Midlet for Google maps and other midlets. Thanks
Download the attached zip file but DO NOT unzip it. Overwrite the one in \Windows on your PDA. Once your done, start up Midlet Manager then Menu -> About and confirm the following version numbers...
Runtime MIDP 2.0: v10.1.7.551 (Build 20060317)
That's the version I'm running and it works just fine with Google Local Maps and Opera Mini.
If after performing the above you still can't get Opera Mini working properly then I'd suggest uninstalling Opera Mini (tap and hold the icon and select uninstall) and then visit http://mini.opera.com in Pocket Internet Explorer and download Opera Mini again. If that page says something about recognising your device as an iPaq of some kind then just ignore it.
You may just want to scrap tao's manager and go for IBM's http://www.winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/IBMJ9MIDP.zip
I haven't used it, but some people like it. It displays satelite images in google local too.

Thanks
thanks a lot for your speedy and helpful commnets. I will try both.
Thanks again

The zip file came straight from a fresh install of a 2.24 ROM
I've now tried the first solution (the update to Tao's MIDLET) and the midlet manager freezes then crashes as a result!
No good...
Any idea why it does that, and any other work around to the problem?
Cheers
Ok perform this step as well, download this file...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=12426
...and overwrite the ones found in...
\Application Data\Tao\intent
and
\Windows
I've just done that, but in vain. the Midlet Manager still freezed then crashes. I can't even uninstall my old version of Opera mini and / or install the new one. The Midlet Manager crashes before I can do anything...
Any suggestion?
Maybe I should go back to the original Manager?
Navigate to...
\Application Data\Tao\intent\app\jam\midlets
...and delete the operamini folder and see what happens then.
If Midlet Manager still locks up then by all means replace rofs_target.zip and target.img.zip back with the versions you had originally... assuming you did back them up first
Just out of interest, what ROM version are you running and what Midlet Manager version did you have prior to all this messing around?
Thanks Keitaro.
My ROM is T-Mobile's UK ROM 1.6.2.4 - I am waiting for T-Mobile to release the new ROM.
Maybe that's why the updated Midlet manager does not work.
I did not backup the target.img.zip file unfortunately.
Could anybody on the T-Mobile's 1.6.2.4 ROM upload their Windows/target.img.zip file here please?
I could then downgrade my Midlet Manager.
thanks
You can always install the IBM Manager.
It's not as pretty, but it works.

gamescan - just done it, and it works great.
Thanks
opera mini
i screw up my midlet by deleting the target.img. i want to have a fresh installation of opera mini. How will i uninstall the previous mini in my xda?
I have a t-mobile HD2 and everytime I launch the internet browser (Opera) it brings up this really annoying "Do you want to go online?" warning. This happens whether Opera is launched from the Sense UI or directly from the start menu.
I can not find anything in the registry to remove this. I have also noticed in the \Windows folder that there is a "BrandedBrowser.exe", which seems to be the cause, because if I run it (and Opera is not already running) then it brings up the warning and then launches Opera, however, if I run the OperaL.exe file directly then it doesnt display the warning.
How can I modify the Sense UI so that it launches the OperaL.exe instead of the BrandedBrowser.exe?
Any ideals peeps?
To launch OperaL.exe as the default instead of BrandedBrowser.exe just use a program like total commander to rename Brandedbrowser to brandedbrowser_bkp.exe (just so you have a backup copy should you ever need it), then make a copy of operaL.exe and rename it as BrandedBrowser.exe
Make sure it stays in the windows directory.
I just tried this myself and it worked.
The branding still appears but it doesn't ask me if i want to go online anymore
Thanks very much
I can't seem to do this. I have Total Commander installed but whenever I change the file properties to uncheck System and Read Only, it just reverts back so that I can't rename or delete it.
How do I do this?

Strange. When I did it, I didn't change any of the files properties. I just renamed it. Make sure the browser isn't running in the background. You can close it fully with the task manager. If it is running perhaps you can't edit the file name.
Perfect. I must have had the browser running in the background without realising last time. I've just had another go with the stock File Manager and it's worked a treat
Now.....I just need to find a way of switching off HSDPA (but keeping 3G) switched on in this T-Mobile UK 1.43 ROM

That's the easy part
Go to Settings, Menu, All Settings, Connections, and Advanced Network. It's the 1st option you'll see.
Unfortunately it seems to be missing from this ROM. In advanced settings I have 3 tabs: GPRS (authentication method), CSD Line Type and SMS Service. I think T-Mobile have removed it for some reason.
Is there a registry key I can change?

I had the same problem.
I thought it might've been because I was using an old version of Total Commander, so I updated that to the latest one but it still wouldn't work.
To fix the problem I copied the original read only files to my PC desktop, unticked the read only attribute, copied them to my SD card, then moved them from there back into the Windows directory on the phone, and finally changed the file names.
I rebooted the phone to make sure the changes had stuck, and they had.
Much rejoicing was made.
If I can find a way to switch HSDPA off and keep 3G on, and improve general stability I'll be 99.9% happy with the HD2. If only I could update the ROM without voiding the warranty
Come on T-Mobile, hurry up an release a 1.48 ROM!!!!! :
Sorry if there is an answer somewhere already, but I have been looking around for 20 minutes and I'm giving up and posting a thread. I have like five programs that won't uninstall when I go into the settings-->remove programs application. It comes up with a message that says "XXXX was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?"
Has anybody had this also? How do I get it completely off my phone/get the memory back?
One more thing, I have a program called "AA AA" and I know for sure that I didn't install a cab with that name, so what the hell is it? I'm a noob with WinMo so sorry if it's simple **** haha.
Thanks in advance

For programs that say they didn't uninstall completely, the method I use to get them out is this:
1) run the cab again, the same one you used to install a/the app in the first place
2) when it gives you option or error dialogs, just click "ok" or "yes" to all of them, to allow it to go through what looks like another complete install process (yes, it's odd, but this is how to do it).
3) when it's done, soft-reset, and then you should find that there's no more trace of the app in your uninstall list.
Don't ask me how/why that works, but I've used it in many instances for just that reason, and it's worked every time I tried it.
As for that "AA AA" app, I've certainly never seen a cab that used that name (fyi, the name in the uninstall list doesn't necessarily match the name of the cab file...only if the person creating it set it up that way). So...I'd just say uninstall it, and see if any apps/links are missing then.
This thread is closest to my problem,so I'm asking here.
I cant uninstall ANY of my programs, I have tried the usual method from the remove programs section in Settings. I get same error as OP.
When that failed I then try to just delete the program folder from program files, using file explorer, but get an error saying 'Access is denied. Be certain the folder isn't in use and not write protected'
At first I thought I had a memory card problem, but its the same regardless of where the program is installed.
I also tried to re-install the programs from their cab files as described above, but get an 'unsuccessful' message.
I cant rename any files anywhere on my device either.
I know a little about write protection, but cant figure out what my problem is or how to fix it.
I hope I explained properly for someone to help.
Thanks.
It looks like that the installer process "wceload.exe" was not correctly quit and is still in the memory. Terminate the process wceload.exe with a task manager and try again.
Thanks ElectronX.
I did a search on my HD2 for the file you mentioned and couldn't find it. I have Duttys task manager installed and after a soft reset, the problem still remains. The task manager is empty of processes when I start the device.
Im sorry that Im a bit clueless to how to achieve what you suggest.
I have discovered that the problem extends beyond removing and installing programs. I cant do anything in file explorer other than open documents. If I want to move, delete, rename any file on the device I get the 'write protected' error message. I cant do it via active sync either..I connected to the computer and could browse my device, but if I tried deleting, moving or renaming, the message said it didn't have permission to do it.
Last resort is a hard reset, but hopefully someone will be able to help.
Use sktools to uninstall when windows fails. Best program ever...
Good luck
Thanks, but I cant install anything on my device...can sktools be run from my computer to fix the device?
Unfortunately not...
Good luck though..

Holy crap, this works.
Up until a few days ago, my HD2 was working fine. Then I tried to install Android. I used the one that you just copy to the storage card and run a file called zharet.exe ( !!NOT HARET.EXE!! ). I think it was Cotulla's ROM. First time, it crashed. Second time, meaning after I installed Radio ROM version 2.12, which is required (more specifically, 2.08 or above is required, but 2.12 was easier to find), it started and installed, then rebooted. Third time it worked and was able to send a text message to my stepfather. I switched back to WinMO to ask him if it got there, then I started Android again. It crashed, sending me to the boot screen of WinMO. Upon this start I was no longer able to run many files (executables), the running of which resulted in the message "The File *PROGRAM NAME* cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
I have tried numerous fixes:
Soft reset
Reinstalling the applications
Seeing if .NET Compact Framework was installed; the phone claimed it was, but I couldn't find any trace of it and so I tried to reinstall it. I was not able to, so I "uninstalled" it from the phone, which still thought it had it; the operation took no time, so I doubt it was there in the first place. When I tried installing it to the phone again, it said that this version was already in the ROM. Also tried installing an older version of the CF, but it just said I had a newer version.
Switching memory cards (3 different ones)
Renaming the memory card and restarting, a fix recommended to some other people who had a problem with similar symptoms. It refused to cooperate and said that the memory card could not be renamed.
My next step will be to rename the memory card using a device other than the phone itself.
I don't want to hard reset as I wish to keep my messages and contacts, but if that's what is needed to "un-half-brick" this phone, I will of course do it. The way it acts now, I might as well have kept my n95.
It is worth noting that HardSPL should be installed, as it was required for the Radio ROM flash.
EDIT: HardSPL install IS verified, boot screen reads as follows:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.HSPL XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x30
In this thread, Gargoyle999 is describing my exact problem: forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1882858
Keep in mind that this phone is Norwegian with Telenor as its carrier, although the phone itself is not locked and capable of using any carrier.
EDIT: The files that may not be run are mostly third-party ones, like MorphGear, zharet, Google Maps and so on. Most programs that came with the phone, like Copilot, Footprints and Opera work.
I am not too familiar with XDA, so forgive me if I am posting in the wrong section or making some other rookie mistake xD
I am having the same issued on one of my HD2's...anyone??? Help!!!!
This is NOT and android problem.
I'm not exactly sure, but it's a security measure in WinMo that disallows unsigned programs from running after the system has crashed due to those programs running, probably to protect the system from malicious programs.
All you need to do is disable security on it. There are various thread on this site in different places that tell you how to. Personally, I found the mobile security configurations manager(windows) is the best way. Just plug in your phone in WinMo, using activesync, open the program, and load device. Then you can just select no security, and provision it. It'll overwrite all the proper registery settings and whatnot for you.
Also, GOOGLE IT. I found all this information myself just by searching "Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file" +windows mobile 6.5
Yes, yes Google it...I understand...But guess what? I did and found the same utility. And guess what? I got another error when it tries to install a cab file on the phone and for whatever reason the cab file errors out...I came here after reading and trying a ton of stuff and happened upon the OP's topic today.
Another thing is I realize it may not be an Android specific problem BUT prior to installing the mattcfroyo build and then attempting to test another build I didn't have any issue installing a cab file from the SD card. Also before anyone offers about installing another SD card I tried that also and no haps.
Weird and I am still searching for a solution but again XDA is the spot and researching here has not provided me with a working solution as of now....sssooooo...HELP!? Or not...

Look up all of the google registry fixes, and try every single one of them.
If none of them work and the program I recommended doesn't work, backup and hard-reset.
then, when it's done first thing use that program to disable security.
Also, most custom ROMs have security disabled by default.
Well I just went ahead and flashed a new rom and I am good to go...
I have tried your application. Got the same results as lstrike, error when installing CAB file. Also, how am I supposed to edit the registry when I can't run third party programs?
Will flash Miri's ROM soon. Any idea of whether or not that one has security disabled by default?
sigh i got the exact same problem after trying to run andriod.... any luck?
same problem here, did anyone face the problem then resolve it?
I found the solution !
When the error appears just go to marketplace, download the free version of Resco Explorer
(Resco was the first official registry app I found but if there's another in marketplace i guess it will do just fine)
After this open Resco Registry (included in Resco File Explorer) and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies
Then go to 0000101a and change DWORD Data value to 1
Now every thing is perfect and you can open all of your apps
Good luck !
Thank you, this solution saved my day!
