How remove the "Do you want to go online?" warning - HD2 General

I have a t-mobile HD2 and everytime I launch the internet browser (Opera) it brings up this really annoying "Do you want to go online?" warning. This happens whether Opera is launched from the Sense UI or directly from the start menu.
I can not find anything in the registry to remove this. I have also noticed in the \Windows folder that there is a "BrandedBrowser.exe", which seems to be the cause, because if I run it (and Opera is not already running) then it brings up the warning and then launches Opera, however, if I run the OperaL.exe file directly then it doesnt display the warning.
How can I modify the Sense UI so that it launches the OperaL.exe instead of the BrandedBrowser.exe?
Any ideals peeps?

To launch OperaL.exe as the default instead of BrandedBrowser.exe just use a program like total commander to rename Brandedbrowser to brandedbrowser_bkp.exe (just so you have a backup copy should you ever need it), then make a copy of operaL.exe and rename it as BrandedBrowser.exe
Make sure it stays in the windows directory.
I just tried this myself and it worked.
The branding still appears but it doesn't ask me if i want to go online anymore

Thanks very much

I can't seem to do this. I have Total Commander installed but whenever I change the file properties to uncheck System and Read Only, it just reverts back so that I can't rename or delete it.
How do I do this?

Strange. When I did it, I didn't change any of the files properties. I just renamed it. Make sure the browser isn't running in the background. You can close it fully with the task manager. If it is running perhaps you can't edit the file name.

Perfect. I must have had the browser running in the background without realising last time. I've just had another go with the stock File Manager and it's worked a treat
Now.....I just need to find a way of switching off HSDPA (but keeping 3G) switched on in this T-Mobile UK 1.43 ROM

That's the easy part
Go to Settings, Menu, All Settings, Connections, and Advanced Network. It's the 1st option you'll see.

Unfortunately it seems to be missing from this ROM. In advanced settings I have 3 tabs: GPRS (authentication method), CSD Line Type and SMS Service. I think T-Mobile have removed it for some reason.
Is there a registry key I can change?

I had the same problem.
I thought it might've been because I was using an old version of Total Commander, so I updated that to the latest one but it still wouldn't work.
To fix the problem I copied the original read only files to my PC desktop, unticked the read only attribute, copied them to my SD card, then moved them from there back into the Windows directory on the phone, and finally changed the file names.
I rebooted the phone to make sure the changes had stuck, and they had.
Much rejoicing was made.

If I can find a way to switch HSDPA off and keep 3G on, and improve general stability I'll be 99.9% happy with the HD2. If only I could update the ROM without voiding the warranty
Come on T-Mobile, hurry up an release a 1.48 ROM!!!!! :

getting rid of the operator logo in th phone pad

Hello, I have set my T-Mobile Phone Pad back to the default skin of Windows Mobile 5 but unfortunately it still shows the T-Mobile logo in the upper left corner. How can I get rid of that too ?
Not sure if this works for the Universal but give it a try!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...postorder=asc&highlight=operator+logo&start=0
it seems that all I have to do is rename the carrierlogo.gif Unfortunately total commander does not allow me to. What do I need to do to rename it ?
Ok, I also try to replace the Logo but it does not work. How can I overwrite/change files, which are stored in ROM?
any clues?
you should be able to overwrite it I would think, many others have reported the ability to overwrite the file in rom, it just comes back on hard reset.
try using resco explorer and viewing files in rom.
you may also have to perhaps consider disabling the phone application (flight mode) to disable the launching of the phone application on startup.

Vodafone uk users only

Hi Guys,
As you are aware we are waiting for the HardSPL, but in the mean time, can you share what Theme you are using which has no issues on your TP2...a cab file would be nice.
This way we know what works on our Vodafone UK branded phones.
Thanks in Advance....
There are a few threads on here dealing with this. But the gist is:
Download this
http://www.4shared.com/file/109330961/b9be5561/TF3DIIBlack.html
Before installing it copy the "2330fc3c_manila" file from the windows directory and put it back after installation. When installing DO NOT let your screen turn off!!! and it takes AGES to install, about 20-30 minutes.
Once it is installed, reboot and you have the default HTC black TF3D theme, with white fonts. You can then install any theme you want without CFC compression

Thanks for That Stunno.
Anyone else use different cabs or use another method ?
Im using this:

Lets you install custom icon sets, font colours, clocks, sliders and shake to change wallpapers!
Its fairly easy to use and loads of different styles out there
Thanks for sharing that ashtemple.
Anymore Vodafone UK users out thier with thier TP2's ?
I know you arent using the crappy theme from vodafone , let us know what you use so that we can share each others themes...saves us all the time and hassle.
Sharing is good....
Let us know
Thanks for the people who have shared thier experience in this...come on people
Thanks Stunno, I have done this, but I think I have cocked up slightly, I did not re-install the manilla file before re-booting, my weather is in French, I assume this would have changed it? I am now unable to install as presumably this will not let you whilst touch flo is running? can I switch off touch flo to re-install this file?
NOW WORKING
how did you remove the file, and get it back? i get perms errors..? thanks.

Use Total Commander or the Resco file manager to copy the file
I copied a couple of times and also got the permission errors, but I think it did actually copy, when I went back into weather it was in English (may have soft reset in the interim)

Just to confirm to people that the above works like a dream. BUT FOLLOW / READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
For users that dont want to twinker to much in regards to copy this file, save this file, cut this file, paste the file...install another app etc.... USE THIS.
Simple install and a simple tweak and thats it. You are up and running.
I used MaxTT but for me I'm happy with Stunno's method.
Once again thanks for the guys who have posted !!
Thanks Stunno.
Works perfectly.
People might like to make a note of the programs they have on their quick launch "start page" as these need to be setup again.

I'm having trouble with reestablishing Facbook,
I can edit the first of the reg files, but the next two won't open for some reason. I'm using total Commander to edit them.
I've managed to change facebook.disable value to 0, but that's about it, any help appreciated!
I followed the instructions given in these threads, except I copied the manila file after installing. I disabled TF3D, copied the manila, restarted TF3D. It works beautifully.
I also installed from the numerous icon packs and different background from the HDwall collection and my TP2 doesn't look at all like the one shipped by VF.
Go for it guys. Just go for it.

I have removed the "vodafone-ism" and done the registry changes to enable facebook, but when I go into updates and events, and click on the "link profiles" it asks me to select my friends and save photo's /birthday, but when I click on done it just goes back to the previous page, and won't link to facebook.

I had this issue too, to work around this just go into the individual contacts that are not linked, select "edit contact" then scroll down to the Facebook link and select the contact from your list there.

Tried that but it doesn't give me the option to link to facebook, I thin there should be tick boxes, but these are missing.

HD2 certificate/component problem

Up until a few days ago, my HD2 was working fine. Then I tried to install Android. I used the one that you just copy to the storage card and run a file called zharet.exe ( !!NOT HARET.EXE!! ). I think it was Cotulla's ROM. First time, it crashed. Second time, meaning after I installed Radio ROM version 2.12, which is required (more specifically, 2.08 or above is required, but 2.12 was easier to find), it started and installed, then rebooted. Third time it worked and was able to send a text message to my stepfather. I switched back to WinMO to ask him if it got there, then I started Android again. It crashed, sending me to the boot screen of WinMO. Upon this start I was no longer able to run many files (executables), the running of which resulted in the message "The File *PROGRAM NAME* cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."
I have tried numerous fixes:
Soft reset
Reinstalling the applications
Seeing if .NET Compact Framework was installed; the phone claimed it was, but I couldn't find any trace of it and so I tried to reinstall it. I was not able to, so I "uninstalled" it from the phone, which still thought it had it; the operation took no time, so I doubt it was there in the first place. When I tried installing it to the phone again, it said that this version was already in the ROM. Also tried installing an older version of the CF, but it just said I had a newer version.
Switching memory cards (3 different ones)
Renaming the memory card and restarting, a fix recommended to some other people who had a problem with similar symptoms. It refused to cooperate and said that the memory card could not be renamed.
My next step will be to rename the memory card using a device other than the phone itself.
I don't want to hard reset as I wish to keep my messages and contacts, but if that's what is needed to "un-half-brick" this phone, I will of course do it. The way it acts now, I might as well have kept my n95.
It is worth noting that HardSPL should be installed, as it was required for the Radio ROM flash.
EDIT: HardSPL install IS verified, boot screen reads as follows:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.HSPL XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x30
In this thread, Gargoyle999 is describing my exact problem: forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1882858
Keep in mind that this phone is Norwegian with Telenor as its carrier, although the phone itself is not locked and capable of using any carrier.
EDIT: The files that may not be run are mostly third-party ones, like MorphGear, zharet, Google Maps and so on. Most programs that came with the phone, like Copilot, Footprints and Opera work.
I am not too familiar with XDA, so forgive me if I am posting in the wrong section or making some other rookie mistake xD
I am having the same issued on one of my HD2's...anyone??? Help!!!!
This is NOT and android problem.
I'm not exactly sure, but it's a security measure in WinMo that disallows unsigned programs from running after the system has crashed due to those programs running, probably to protect the system from malicious programs.
All you need to do is disable security on it. There are various thread on this site in different places that tell you how to. Personally, I found the mobile security configurations manager(windows) is the best way. Just plug in your phone in WinMo, using activesync, open the program, and load device. Then you can just select no security, and provision it. It'll overwrite all the proper registery settings and whatnot for you.
Also, GOOGLE IT. I found all this information myself just by searching "Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file" +windows mobile 6.5
Yes, yes Google it...I understand...But guess what? I did and found the same utility. And guess what? I got another error when it tries to install a cab file on the phone and for whatever reason the cab file errors out...I came here after reading and trying a ton of stuff and happened upon the OP's topic today.
Another thing is I realize it may not be an Android specific problem BUT prior to installing the mattcfroyo build and then attempting to test another build I didn't have any issue installing a cab file from the SD card. Also before anyone offers about installing another SD card I tried that also and no haps.
Weird and I am still searching for a solution but again XDA is the spot and researching here has not provided me with a working solution as of now....sssooooo...HELP!? Or not...

Look up all of the google registry fixes, and try every single one of them.
If none of them work and the program I recommended doesn't work, backup and hard-reset.
then, when it's done first thing use that program to disable security.
Also, most custom ROMs have security disabled by default.
Well I just went ahead and flashed a new rom and I am good to go...
I have tried your application. Got the same results as lstrike, error when installing CAB file. Also, how am I supposed to edit the registry when I can't run third party programs?
Will flash Miri's ROM soon. Any idea of whether or not that one has security disabled by default?
sigh i got the exact same problem after trying to run andriod.... any luck?
same problem here, did anyone face the problem then resolve it?
I found the solution !
When the error appears just go to marketplace, download the free version of Resco Explorer
(Resco was the first official registry app I found but if there's another in marketplace i guess it will do just fine)
After this open Resco Registry (included in Resco File Explorer) and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies
Then go to 0000101a and change DWORD Data value to 1
Now every thing is perfect and you can open all of your apps
Good luck !
Thank you, this solution saved my day!

[Q] Advice sought for flashing Hermes 200

Hello all,
I am running a 64 bit Win 7 PC and an unlocked Hermes 200, with Win 6, which I wish to upgrade. I have used the Easy Hard-Spl v7 and the Hermes bootloader is showing an IPL 0f 1.04 and a SPL of 2.10 olipro. I have not flashed a phone ROM before and I wish to be safer than sorrier having bricked the Hermes.
I have the HTC_TyTN)WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108.exe file which I wish to flash to the Hermes. I have renamed this file as a .zip file and extracted 8 files including RUU_Inside.exe (55,490kb). Again, I renamed this file as a .zip file and extracted another 8 files icluding RUU_signed.nbh (93,566kb). I am assuming that this is the file I need to flash.
To flash the Hermes ROM, I need to do:
1. have a 2Gb non-SHDC microSD card formatted to FAT32
2. rename RUU_signed.nbh to HERMIMG.nbh and copy this file to the root folder of the SD card
3. insert the SD card into the Hermes and start the bootloader
4. comfirm flashing on screen by pressing the power button
5. wait about 30 minutes
6. once flashing is confirmed as complete, do a soft reset
I am hoping that somebody that knows more than me, which is all of you, will confirm that my sequence of actions is correct or else point out my errors.
Many thanks for your help and advice,
Crag345
That is ok.
I think in step 4. that you will not confirm with power button, but with other one. Doesn't matters, it will tell you whitch one to press.
First flash AT&T ROM and than ROM image that you want, it is told on almost every [ROM] thread.
Searched high and low, can't find ROM
Before anyone bashes me for asking this, I've searched this forum and many others all evening and through the night and several times previously -- and EVERY SINGLE download link for any ROMs is broken. Can anyone help me locate a WM6.1 ROM that should work on a Cingular (now AT&T) 8525 (HTC Hermes)? By the way I'm no noob, I have successfully flashed ROMs to my HTC Wizard (AT&T 8125) and my HTC Apache and even cooked ROMs for it.
crag345, I'm in about the same boat as having thoroughly researched and being prepared to install a ROM for this thing (except still needing the ROM...hahaha) -- in general your approach seems solid, and those are the steps I've found too for flashing the Hermes from SD card.
Additional steps you might want to take, as found in some forum posts --
0. Make sure you have a ROM version that is compatible with your phone (you probably already did this, but extremely important so worth mentioning).
1.a) scan the SD card to verify integrity. Some have done this using a WM program called Storage Tools (I found Storage Card Tools, I think it is the same they were talking about, for $15). But in the wiki it says you can just use Properties, Tools, Error Checking (I found this on Windows desktop PC by right-clicking the drive letter first - they didn't mention that). I think the point of using Storage Card Tools was this guy had no access to a PC.
2.a) Copy or write down all the settings you can find in the phone, especially MEdia Net (this is from my own experience, after flashing you can't get internet, picture messaging, and similar stuff to work until this is re-entered). You can get there using Settings, Connections, Connections, and under MEdiaNet tap on Manage existing connections (might be called something else if you are with a carrier other than AT&T). Tap Edit, and go through each screen, capturing or writing down the settings.
2.b) Be sure your battery is charged, or phone plugged into charger.
7. Some forums on very similar HTC WM devices also advocate doing a hard reset after flashing a ROM. Not sure how necessary but it can't hurt. Possibly also of interest, if your carrier's ROM includes bloatware, you might be able to eliminate it by RIGHT BEFORE IT INSTALLS their customizations, hit soft reset button. Worked great for me on one phone, but on another phone it failed to stop the carrier customizations.
8. If pic msgs do not work, try going to MMS Options (in Messaging app), Menu, MMS server. (Menu and option names may vary depending on WM version). My notes are for AT&T -- Server name: type in anything. IP address: wireless.cingular.com. Port number: 80. Server address http://mmsc.cingular.com. Connect via: MEdia Net. send limit is 600KB.
---------- Post added at 08:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:13 AM ----------
also, 2.a)1. Obviously, back up any data you have in the phone's internal memory. My Documents, and anything customized you've saved at the \ root level or another subfolder in internal memory. Also back up calendar and contacts -- if you are using Google exchange sync this won't be a problem, it will all come back when you re-establish the account settings and sync -- but if not, you might want to use a PIM backup utility. SK Tools is my favorite.
2.a)2. If you have a registry editor, you might want to use it to export some customized settings for your programs, then you can much more quickly restore those settings after flashing or hard resetting the device. I use an app TaskMgr.exe in the RegEdit screen for exporting subtrees, especially in HKCU, Software. You'll see folders the correspond to apps you've installed. One to not overlook if you customize button settings, is \Microsoft\Shell\Keys. You can inspect items to see if the data is something you care to quickly reinstall. Tap and hold and you can export. This way you can restore PORTIONS of the registry. The new OS will have a registry that is sure to be different in many significant ways so you don't want to export the whole registry and reimport it all. Once you have flashed &/or hard reset a device, you'll need a program that reads .reg files in order to easily reinstall your preferences. If you have SK Tools, even the lite version, once it is installed the system will recognize .reg files.
2.a)3. A few apps don't seem to store their settings in the registry or anywhere that can easily be saved. WkTask (an EXCELLENT task manager and task switcher program) is like this, and also TCPMP (awesome media player). So, look through the various settings and write down how you like it set up, makes restoring much easier later.

Problems with Folder view settings and file association in Windows 8.1

My Windows 8.1 64 bit started forgetting the view settings from a folder. So if I go in a folder and I set it to List-View for example, whenever I close that folder and I reopen it the view is set automatically to Details view. And this applies to every folder in my computer except Desktop. It drives me crazy, especially in my pictures folders.
Also with this problem another one came.I can't set a program to open some files,so the file associations for some files is broken. For example i can't set qTorrent to open torrent files. It just won't open them and the files apear as white documents just like I hadn't had a Torrent program installed already.I find it weird that both problems appeared together.
I previously had to reinstall windows on my machine, because of this problems. It worked normal at the begging, but today these problems appeared again.
I tried scanning SFC Scan with no result.
I hope I will get a fix here.
Thanks.
Unless your install image is corrupted somehow, an issue like this (which is entirely too specific to be hardware, so it's got to be caused by software) is probably the result of either a problematic app or setting change (registry tweak?) you made somewhere. Do you have/use any registry cleaner or system optimizer tools? Weird security software?

Hey thanks for the reply ,but I got a fix for everything.Apparently the problem is in the registry.
So If the problem began recently, I can try this to fix it like this :
1. Press +R to show the Run box, type RSTRUI and press enter.
2. Choose a recent date and time from before the problem beginning (such as the day before yesterday) and click Next.
3. The system will restore registry settings from that day, and restart.
If you do this however, all the programs you had installed after the restore point date will be DELETED,so be sure to backup things.Hope this will help someone someday.
Cheers.:cyclops:
Otherwise known as "use a restore point". Glad it worked for you. Odd that it should come repeatedly yet so unpredictably.
