OK So I have tried all of these and I have a few issues with each of them because they are all see to be missing something. I have rated them and I was wondering what you guys take is on them. Here we go.
Throttle:
- Finger Friendly: Yes
- Overall Rating - 7.5
- Visual Rating - 8.5
- Speed - 7.0
Throttle is cool but as far as space on you device is concerned it can fill it with a lot of short cuts and make it look very cluttered. it can also run slow on different devices and can be hassle for others who like a clean and quick running machine.
WAD:
- Finger Friendly: No
- Overall Rating - 8.0
- Visual Rating - 8.0
- Speed - 6.0
WAD was actually pretty cool. I downloaded it and played around with the Vista skin that was featured in this forum. I did find that WAD was very complicated to get the themes to work and there was not much help on the Lakeridge forums when I had questions and issues with it showing the wrong thing. Also when switching from landscape to portrait was a hassle and took a good long amount of time. Visually it was nice but many areas were hard to click on due to size of fingers and links.
Point UI:
- Finger Friendly: Yes
- Overall Rating - 9.0
- Visual Rating - 10
- Speed - 9.0
Point UI was a great program to use. Very fast. Plenty of options and allowed for control of sounds, comm manager, and finger scrolling. I greatly enjoyed this program. One Problem was it was not Alt Tab friendly nor were you able to make your own short cuts to help get to programs faster. I was very pleased with the speed and animation and highly recommend this.
SPB Mobile Shell:
- Finger Friendly: Yes
- Overall Rating - 9.5
- Visual Rating - 9.5
- Speed - 10
After all the programs I always seem to be going back to SPB Mobile Shell. the fact that is is finger friendly and highly customizable make it so much fun to use. Also the visually the effects are amazing as well as being easy to navigate. it is very fast and with its integration with SPB Phone suite it can allow to change sound volume and hopefully soon enable the comm manager from SPB Phone.
Now that I have that out of the way for now I am wondering what you think? Which is the best, easiest to customize, visually beautiful, and fun to use. Let me know? I am looking for something that will incorporate well.
WAD2 is the best..with WAD2 you can create the other design of the programs which you have mention for sure

What is your number scale based on? Meaning, you have to have to extremes that you consider amazing (10) and really bad (1 or 0 depending whether it is 0-10 or 1-10). Please consider two things when making a post like this one:
a) While it might be usefull for noobs, you want to be as clear as possible as to what your selection criteria was. Otherwise, you will end up causing more questions than answers.
b)Even though "Development and hacking" might be the best place to put this kind of thread (due mainly to exposure), I think that you should have posted this in the "General" section.
I know that you had good intentions trying to share your personal experiences with the rest of the community, which is why I am advising you to first check if another thread of this kind already exists (I have seen quite a few comparing virtually everything in this site). Maybe the person who started the other thread asking this exact same question is still waiting for an answer on his own post (and will not bother to check for new threads).
Besides, keeping new threads to a minimum makes the devs happy (and keeps CG away )
SPB Mobile Shell: (loved this, BUT battery draining issue). Also, the flexibility to mods the layout to suit my taste.
- Finger Friendly: Yes
- Overall Rating - 9.5
- Visual Rating - 9.5
- Speed - 10
Point UI: (tested (early version) it, but removed because of so many bugs)
- Finger Friendly: Yes
- Overall Rating - 9.0
- Visual Rating - 10
- Speed - 9.0
WAD: (great for non-touch WM based smartphone)
- Finger Friendly: No
- Overall Rating - 8.0
- Visual Rating - 8.0
- Speed - 6.0
Throttle: (have not test it, so couldn't give feedback)
- Finger Friendly: Yes
- Overall Rating - 7.5
- Visual Rating - 8.5
- Speed - 7.0
I'd add Ultimate Launcher to this comparison....
I hate SPB Mobile Shell for the simple fact that its program list only lists 9 at a time and I have to press next repeatedly to get the U and Z. Haven't found a way around that. I know it has some frequently used shortcuts but when I suddently want to use something, I don't want to press Next like 10 times to use it. I like everthing else about SPB Mobile Shell but that one problem makes me uninstall it.
PointUI is better because the prog list is scrollable and beautiful. So if I want the Z, I'll just have to swipe my thumb once or twice and it will vroom-vroom to the bottom part of the prog list. In fact, I'm currently using PointUI on my phone with Wisbar Advance (my own TuiFone theme with a "secret" close button ). For those who used 1.02b and earlier, there is a new 1.5a which is much better and less buggy!!!
WAD is confusing to set up and customize. Wisbar Advance (WA) is better in term of user-friendliness.
Throttle is slow on my device.

First of all thanks for including my app on a list with such awesome apps . Also I think you've forgoten (may be you haven't tried them jet) other really cool apps like UltimateLaunch or rltoday. For the apps you've included I'm almost with you in all your apreciations, but here's why I started developing ThrottleLauncher 6 months ago:
- PointUI: awesome but too fixed imo (at least the version I tested then). I don't know if it's possible now but it's not configurable at all.
- WAD: you have to pay for it so I haven't tested it.
- SPB MS: you have to pay for it. It looks really nice though.
- UltimateLauncher: I didn't knew this app six months ago... probably I will have had many doubts to start Throttle's development if I have seen it before . The drawback for me is that it's not completly free and that it's l&k configuration is limited to icons and animations.
- Rltoday: fully configurable (but complex) and it's functionality is too mixed with mortscripts (wich by the way is other really nice peace of soft)
As the first user of throttle is me I've designed it to match my needs so I will not do any comments other than there's still lot's of things to do.
Hope this other point of view is helpfull for people to choose it's XDA engine .

I will like to add few things:
MS: to much finger friendly.. i dont want to swipe or click next for like 10 times.. also its not that much customizable.. because of xda we have so many themes and skins.. but it is still PITA to customize it.. and its very costly .. atleast for me.. i think in general also.. ($30 is a lot of amount.. especially when you have already purchased pocket plus.. )
pointui and wad: never used them.. cant comment
RLtoday: first program which i used.. loved it and still love it.. have it incorporated in UL.. you have to make your own skins via xml... that can be learned in like 4 days.. only problem is you have to place icons by co-ordinates.. it does not automatically place them.. so you have to be sure where you want to put your icon and that means lot of trial and error.. but once you get hang of it.. you can do some amazing work..
UL: my current launcher.. provides you with everthing.. cube, sliding animation on today.. complete customization.. ...negative points will be only icons type used is .ico and you have to take care of size.. also you cant use UL all by itself.. UL is more dependent on other plugins to make it work better.. best used with RLtoday, Pocket plus and Vijay555 tools IMO (my setup uses these three)
Throttle: used its 0.5 and 0.6 version. Lot of potential in the app.. 0.9 version is very good.. installed it but still using default theme as dont have time to work on a new one.. picture thumbnail view is awesome and something new.. it is also a complete package.. inbuilt photo contact, system shortcuts, running programs, task manager... much more than any other single app but i think because of that memory and speed issues are there.. waiting for apbilbo to reach his target of ver 1.0 and then hope to see some major code changes which can make it run faster my gene .. .. or may be it will be much more faster when 1.0 is released... (no pressure alfonso.. )
personally i dont mind memory cause after this you dont need anything.. but speed is a issue..
I'm a WAD user. And I personally think that WAD has potential. It is a great software. Its flexibility is the best. The skinning thing is fabulous! But sometimes it cost a lot of time.
I can give WAD a full mark, but I won't. Its HUGE memory consume is its largest drawback, d'oh! I'm still using this software though
Waiting for WAD2! I think it's animated, and gesture enable...
Where is iFonz in your test??????
WAD2 has animation gestures, in fact I have tryed every beta (WAD2 beta 1 to 6) and they are really cool, try them!!
UL is another very good choice, but not as customizable as WAD2.
Agreed,
as I have mentioned before, WAD flexibility is the best! And if I may say, WAD is finger-friendly if you want it to be finger friendly, hahaha
here's for example, I made this as my programs launcher on WAD
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And yess, I believe WAD2 is going to be kickass
I have used mobile shell, ultimate launch and pointUI. Now I settle with pointUI after the new version is out.
I never liked the way mobile shell works, always uninstalled before the trial is over, even when I used the pointUI theme.
The old pointUI is too buggy that I have to soft reset way too often that's when I started using ultimate launch. However like someone else pointedout ultimate launch depends heavily on other plug in to look nice.
Then recently after new pointui was launched I started using again. There is only few complaint, which is because I don't use my phone for email or message at all and I can't replace those for anything, and occasionally the scroll won't work which I can always use the D-pad. Other than that this is perfect, works beautifully with open touch 4.0 lite black rom. To me poiintui is the way to go.
To each his own on which UI is better. I've tried them all and they all have there good / bad points so this debate could go on forever. I'm sure this question will be asked a million times more and then when WM7, Android come out, we will start over.
* MS2.0 is what I currently use *

Thanks. I try. I am a stickler for making my stuff banging. At the moment aI am using hte prerelease version of the MS Carbon skin and I love it with the 3 tabs. ALong with S2U2, S2p, S2V, and some other great stuff.
WAD is my favorite out of everything I've tried. I'm loving the flexibility of the skins
for me the best applications are:
about today plugin :
1 Ultimate Launch
2) Battery Status and rlToday
iphone like:
1) iFonz ( very easy to customize)
2) Itask (very beautiful but it seems developpment is stopped now), not easy to customize but reall we can do many things
3) PointUi (not easy/nearly nothing to customize)
4)Throttle Launcher (not used , seems to be complex and not working for all on my P3600, even if I like the concept)
Video appli :
1)TCPMP (work perfectly on my P3600)
Others:
A_c's suite (S2U2,S2P, S2V)
Background applis:
- elias killer appli
- shantz today theme changer
I had another application tobe able to have 9 different desk but it doesn't work anymore (probably after instally BatteryStatus) it is V2R Multidesk : if I had not this problem it will be the best plugin but not now anymore (it is the only commercial program I have)
Cheers

iFonz is what I currently use right now, I have tried Mobile Shell, and some other ones, but I like iFonz because it has animations for when you are opening a program, and is very iphone like (almost exact copy). I only wish that it would use less RAM, as with the Mogul, if i try to open Opera 9.5 while iFonz is running (to use my iphone web browser) it will close iFonz, since it runs out of RAM, this will probably not be a problem on a future device with more RAM (like Touch/Tilt)but for my use with my sprint mogul, it is the only downside i see to ifonz.
PointUI 1.51a is honestly one of the coolest UI's out there. I love it because of its simplicity and the fact that it just works. It could use customizations (like wallpaper) but it still looks sharp and runs awesome with my HTC Touch. I use s2p and s2u2 with it and they work very well hand in hand. One minor issue with pointui is the Red Button on the htc touch takes you to the windows home screen, but a simple mort script eliminated this issue. The best part of pointui is the speed. The new contact list is far superior. Now if only they would give you the option to reverse the scroll direction...

Great product!!
I've been using it for almost 24 hours now and I'm hooked. It's FAST, stable, and works like WM5/6 should work. My only complaint is that it needs to be a little more customizable (and maybe it is and I just haven't figured it out yet.) I would love to change the color theme. The blues are great and all but I like to keep my WM6/Tilt/TyTn2 theme black/grey.
Trying it out, but dissatisfied with the way it keeps hopping back into my regular interface. Is this just supposed to be a skin, or a total OS wrapper?
It acts like a wrapper in many ways, but when you open apps & whatnot, you get your default .tsk or in my case, the last Wisbar skin applied, which isn't really very useful to me, since it looks nothing like the PointUI skin.
It's a very pretty today replacement, but it still needs work, to be sure. Improving user reconfigurability should be number one on their to-do list.
point ui on imate k jam
I also installed this program.I think WAD and SPB mobile shell are better.i made a you tube video on how it looks on my imate k jam.you can check it out on below link.

yrgo - the most customizable user interface
Hi,
my name is Lukas Haraga and I've developed new user interface for Windows Mobile devices. I believe this product can be interesting for lot of people.
Check www.2daysoft.com and see the presentation video there. Believe me - you will like it .
Thanks,
Lukas
it looks very solid, its a shame that you have to pay for it though.
Keep working on the graphical flashiness of it, and do you have any numbers on memory usage (storage and program)
Memory consumption
In storage, it takes about 2.3MB, but there are two dlls - one for 320x240 (about 750kB) and one for 640x480 displays (about 1.1 MB). You can of course delete one of them after the installation.
The memory consumption: Task manager shows 180kB after the start (without any gadget on desktop) and it grows depending on number of gadgets, contacts, SMS messages, etc.
this is so awesome!! and really desktop grade software for windows mobile
congrats on a really great tool.
its great to see that it supports adding other today plugins as gadgets to yrgo!
folks, do have a look, its wicked awesome! (and yes, don't miss the design mode in video!)
Thanks. I'm glad you like it.
Guys, can you help me with my problem? I believe the software could be useful for lot of people. But almost nobody knows it.
So, how to make yrgo the most famous UI software in the world?
Thanks for advices.

Really cool software. Have you considered linking with websites like Handango where people can buy yrgo??
That's a good way to promote your product, IMO...

Handango wants 70% of the product price and this is too much for me. Imagine, the software price is $10 and you will get just $3.
But I'm going to release a free version with limited functionality and this version I'd like to have on handango and such servers.
Thanks for advice.
Lukas
i think you have to change the name of your
interface
yrgo- yoghurt
something more exotic
Only my opinion.
I just installed it though, and thus far it's quite good, going to play around and see if it works out. Design mode is definitely something I am for, as I hate editing XML files to change the smallest thing.
Suggestions:
Custom clocks
Custom fonts/images
I played with it a bit and it works fine on a 96dpi i780 in 320x320.
but i removed it quickly, because it doesnt support the hardware keyboard. when i start typing, i would like to go to the yrgo contacts list that starts filtering, like the built in dialer does from the today screen.
other than that it looks promising. very.
feature requests:
start searching contacts when you start typing on the hardware keyboard
support keyboard shortcuts. user customizable, so that when i add gadget to launch something, or to open my sms inbox, make it so that we can assign hardware keyboard shortcuts like "win+s" for the sms inbox, etc.
this is definitely a very promising UI program - runs quite smooth on my HTC Trinity, where other programs like throttle launcher are sluggish.
I'll post it in the Development and Hacking forum, because it certainly needs more work and improvements, especially graphics, and the gurus are always there
Is is customizable? Can u skin it easily??
Here is the thread I started on the Development and Hacking forum:

[New UI software] 2daysoft yrgo - very promising.
Hi everyone.
The trend of finger-friendly UI programs is known to all of us now, every week we hear about a new program like Lifetoday and others.
I stumbled upon a new and rather promising program called yrgo from 2daysoft
http://www.2daysoft.com/yrgo/index.html
I advise you to check the video in the homepage.
The programs has incredible potential IMHO - I would describe it as similar to UltimateLauncher , but less memory consuming, more finger friendly, and most of all - the extreme ease of configuring it through the design mode.

Obviously, there's lots of room for improvement, so I'm posting this thread for feedback and possible customization by the forum gurus in here
Pros:
1) low memory consumption - this is the main +, on my HTC Trinity it takes less than 1 MB, compared to the several MBs other UI take.
2) works very smooth even on my HTC trinity.
3) The ability to add ANY today plugin to the UI - which is an awesome feature.
4) customization is very easy
Cons and suggestions:
1) Full screen mode, since it basically replaces the taskbar.
2) Customization I don't know if it is easy to customize and whether there is a possibility for themes etc. This program definitely needs work on its design to compete with SPB mobile shell and ThrottleLaunhcer
3) Better design of the contacts page.
For now, It doesn't really replace the stability and extreme customizaation of ultimate Launcher, but it's very promising.
Enjoy
i just tested it. some comments:
-fast,
-no fullscreen,
-my screen flickers when a new page or something is drawn.
- not skinnable in any way, you can´t event change the wallpaper !
- doesnt work with Thumbcal.
- contacts scrollist flickers and is slow. they should take a look at pocketcm.
The look and feel overall isn´t my world, but thanks for posting. i

Thank you, KamaL,
it is nice to see that people like the software. I'm surprised how amazed are all of you .
At this moment, you just can change the color of the desktop. There is lot of work on the software and I'd like to spend as much time as I can on developing, but I also have to promote it and do some marketing.
I will implement background desktop images soon. I also would like to implement complete skinning ability, but it takes time.
The more people like it and want it the more motivation I have .
Thanks.
Lukas
Not bad, I think it will be good for those who would like to skin there own app. Just drag and place where you want. The bad is it is not that skinable meaning changing icons etc.
Seems like low memory usage, I notice some flicker in some screens as well. The good is you can access all phone functions with finger. No need for stylus. The scroll while not as good as others is better than using a stylus. No way to configure Menus.
For people looking for a software which is normally not supported by non standard screen resolutions this can be a option. I modified and set it up on my i780 320x320 screen in about 10 min or less.
Will keep my eye on it, but not sure if I would want to buy it just yet. Will wait to see what changes they will offer in the future development.
I tested it also :
- no fullscreen
- no calendar...for a today use...not so good
- no possibility to use third applications as link from today yrgo plugin
- no SMS threading like in pocketCM
- no help to understand way of working (multi desktop ?)
- not so fast
- very good design mode to change

Strange, I notice only a minor flicker while getting to te different menus, and nothing more.
also the contacts page is very smooth for me. my only complaint is the font size used - not the best one imo.

Hehe, I also had problems with this - simply use the DPAD left/right buttons to bowse through the 4 desktops.
I agree with all other suggestions - customization and use of 3rd party programs like thumbal is a MUST.

You're welcome.
As I said, check the thread I started in the Development and Hacking forum. Some experienced members already tested it and aready posted their quick reviews as I did. I suggest you keep an eye on that thread
Consider checking all major finger-friendly appz out there, especially PocketCm for optimizing your contacts and SMS gadgets, and UltimateLauncher and SPB mobile Shell for overall usage. If you can find a combination of all those programs' features while keeping the memory usage so low, I guess you'll get many good reviews. For now - there's lots of work to be done, and the members of this board are always ready to give feedback.
Good luck;
Kamal
I think your no1 priority is to make it fully skinnable. If it's skinnable, people will make skins for it and release it here, and there's no doubt that many people will consider buying your software!
I saw the video, it looks nice, but for me personally there's no chance to even try it unless I can skin it
I have a nice name for it
Cruid
It sounds kinda nice and mysterious in my opinion
Just a suggestion
Choose you favourite version!
iFonz 2 is King!
Yes, I do not understand people, who like better iFonz 1. Yes, it was very good, but iFonz 2 demonstrated improvement, is faster and more sensitive and also intuitive.
Thank You.
I love the bottom bar and button press animation in iFonz 1, but I like the speed, settings, and ability to have the task bar in iFonz 2. For me, if those features could colliade into one release it would be perfect. Just my opinion. Thanks for all of your work!!

Same for me. Also, i did like ifonz1 continuos pages (as i have already told you). And mostly, the ifonz1 smoothness: speed was low, it's true, but with ifonz1 i never (never) launched an app for mistake, while with ifonz2 i launch a bunch of apps sipmly swiping to change pages.
Also, i'm not sure, but seems the new iFonz is more memory hungry than the 1st: i never happened to see #1 closed by autokill (the f***king thing shuts down apps also when disabled), while ifonz2 is regularly shot down when other apps are running (and i'm on HD, with 64mb free program memory)
but
Mostly both. At once. The thing is that the real Iphone menu works and look great for a phone but not for a smartphone. The iphone emulating menus make my phone look good but feel stupid. Kinda like a dumb blonde.
Sorry man but none of them felt like the real thing and if the Iphone feel is the goal here, none is quite "there". The iphone sells because of its looks, not the functionallity. I wish that you kept the idea and changed the icons and designto something of your own. To continue comparing this to the real thing will make you loose. Take away the iphone look and add your own. Put the "functionallity" above the "look" if you get my point. I got/had an idea for a layout the first time I saw your app. I'm an educated designer and would share my idea with you if you want. use the PM for that
I like Ifonz2 better
Ifonz2 is a beautiful piece of software, and the speed is so much better than in ifonz1
Hey this Ifonz2 has come along great... Im sure a few config options will come along, but its excellent now... The thing that is best about this kind of a program, is that you're getting the best of both worlds, the iPhone look and feel, but still get to be on Windows Mobile... and better than the iPhone still between the clock, shortcuts, and notifiers (including the windows titlebar ones) on one screen and still other screens of icons for additional apps... You can't beat it... I like the power of a smartphone and the business OS behind it, but I love the eye candy too...
ifonz 1 for me
Hi, iFonz 1.1.2 is my favorite for me because
1) it's more polished (since iFonz2 is still very much an early in-progress project)
2) It's a simple interface that just works, and that's what I was searching for
3) unlike iFonz 2, it supports square screens without me having to configure anything
I tried iFonz 2 a few times but unfortunately I could never get it to fill in the whole screen of my Samsung Epix (whether I was running RealVGA at 96 or 128dpi).
There are a few bugs (the minimize animation seems to kick in and loop once in a while) in iFonz 1, but until iFonz2 works well with my phone or an alternative interface that runs well on my phone arrives, I'll be sticking with iFonz 1.1.2.
Thanks!
Acknowledgement: Infinity is in a very early development stage,it's not yet a finished application, this review doesnt reflect the final completed software, the purpose of this review is to let devolopers and would-be users to contribute ideas in order to make final completed software more perfect.

The Infinity v0.2.1 is apparently not compatible with WM6.5 very well, I even cannot set background picture for the desktop,so there must be some buttons missing.
Generally it looks very promising, compared to Touchflo 3D,it’s much more customizable, you can put any shortcuts and widgets in anywhere of the desktop, this is the feature millions are looking for;Compare to SPB Mobile Shell, the Infinity looks very similar but more agile and you can set everything neat and usable immediately.
Like SPB Mobile Shell, the Ageye Infinity let you do two most important things:
One,you put all your most important shortcuts and widgets on the desktop,NOTE any location of the desktop. While for Touchflo 3D,you basically cannot do much about the desktop, this sucks badly and I am suffercating every time I see Touchflo 3D.
Two,you put less important or less frequently used shortcuts in Favorite Folder (in SPB Mobile Shell,it’s called Launcher,in Infinity,it’s the middle button I saw when I tested it in my HTC Pro2 with WM6.5 rom).
As I didn’t see the Infinity Manual,it took me about 15 minutes to figure out how to use it, I should say it’s more or less close to SPB Mobile Shell when it comes to customization of desktop and Favorite Folder.
The difference is,for example, you want to place Contacts in the desktop, first you need to add “Shortcut” in the desktop, this Shortcut is an empty icon, then you click on this Shortcut icon to find the path of the Contacts.
If you are interested to try out Infinity v0.2.1,please download(probably need registration):
http://forum.ageye.de/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1369
Install to your main memory, then in programs you can find a Infinity program icon, click to run.
Suggestions to developers:
1. how to set the background for desktop, the default background is not-so-good-looking,there is no button that can set this, please update based on WM6.5.
2. where is the general configuration? How to set Infinity to replace Today? How to change language? How to set the number of pages of desktop?
3. how to change the size of icons in the desktop? In SPB Mobile Shell,it got this feature, you can make the icon small, big, professional, transparent etc etc.
4. about the right and left soft key configuration,it seems that the option is very limited, can we assign any programs and widgets for the right and left soft key?
5. For Infinity own widgets, I suggest you to add Task Manager, this is most often used tool,In addition,if we can put this Task Manager in the right soft key, that will be very convenient! I saw SPB Mobile Shell has a great Task Manager widget, users can use Shell extension tool to put it beside the Launcher.
Looking forward to your great update soon!

Exactly! And it's already pretty amazing.
This UI seems to be alot like PointUI.. I dont know a lot about coding but it seems like a very early version of the same UI
I dont doubt that it is entirely different that's just my two cents from screen shots of Infinity.
Pointui you can use tons and tons of different themes and wigets etc as well.
ie:Pointui Sense, Nexus One, Mac OS... the list really is endless.
Just some food for thought. If you like Infinity you should definaly give pointui a try. That said...... if you're the developer and just trying to spread the word about Infinity.. My bad! I looks promising!

It's not really like PointUI - it doesn't crash as often
No, I've tried (bought) PointUI and other than the PointSense theme (which has been abandoned by its developer) there's nothing much about PointUI to get excited about Add to that the fact that PointUI hasn't seen an update from its developers in a very long time...
I think that Infinity shows more promise than both SPB Mobile Shell and PointUI combined. People are forgetting that what they've seen so far is only an ALPHA version!
About the task manager, try to press on the top bar...
The HD2 is a remarkable device. It's one of a kind. It is sad that even with such hardware, the manufacturers have limited its customizability...
Here are a few things which will enable any new owner to bring out the best in the phone without the fear of bricking...
Of course, there are more out there, but I have listed the most essential apps and tweaks. Feel free to add more as they come out.
1) Cookies Home Tab + Editor. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633590
2) cleanRAM (from Omarket). Excellent tool for freeing RAM memory. http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-cleanram.html
3)BsB Tweaks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305
4)Opera Mobile 10 (get it from the official site)
5)Core Player
6)G-Alarm
7)Glossy task bars http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642832
8)Resco Photo Manager
9)Battery indicator in % http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584772
I'm sure there are more out there but due to lack of time (okay...so I'm a bit lazy...) I couldn't list them.
So here are the 8 essential things!
first to click yes!
A thread like this has already been made, here.
The problem with most people who voted anything but "no" is because:
1) They stupidly fell for the 4.3 inch screen
2) Tinkering is not for them
3) Neglected to realize that it "just (Doesnt) work" like an iphone
4) They have too much problems because they stuck with the stock rom
5) They simply got a crappy HD2 from a horrible batch.
I give the benefit of the doubt and say, you got #5.
"Glossy task bars "
You feel that is essential?

Well, I guess its just me, but having two black bars at both ends of a big screen didn't quiet appeal to me...
esstianal things i couldn't do with out on my HD2?
Well there is the speed tweaks. If you have a decent task amanger you have no need for cleanram so dutty's task manager (or something similar). Chainfires 3D driver is a just, as is LCS.
I couldn't go with out office 2010 either but i am intrigued by the choice of opera 10. last time i checked it didn't support pinch zoom so i'd have to say opera 9.7 (but i don't use flash sites that often)

do you think the Chainfire driver is necessary for the US version of HD2? WHat is LCS?

Yes and i'm bored of explaining what LCS is so find the search button and you're question will be answered.
opera 10 sucks big hairy donkey balls compared to 9.7
In my opinion anyway.
I think you should have included a registry editor in your list too.
Id find that far more useful on a daily basis than g alarm or resco photo manager, not saying they aren't worth having I just don't see them as essential.
to a certain extent i do agree with yur there, conantroutman, but i think that most "normal" users wouldn't need it. I do use my reg editor a lot but i'm a techie and a tweaker so i find it useful.
I did think of another essential program. The facebook v1.2 app from MS marketplace. It's much better than the stock one. I also missed out wifi remote access but it's at this point i feel like i'm covering out ground.
as already been told, duttys task manager is essencial... really... the first thing i would isntall is:
hotfixes from HTC
duttys taskmanager
enchansed TUrnOFF button
Core PLayer
Navigation Soft
Microsoft Net Framework 3.5
some custom BAR (already includes battery lfe in %) dependes again...
social network tools... (depends what u really use)
thats it.
I know this is shameless self-promotion, but the guide in my sig has what I consider must-have tweaks and apps.
- LMT. Using gestures to start programs.
- *A decent task manager.
- Norton Commander pocket, the freeware finger friendly beta (including ftp and registry editor)
- Uzard or Skyfire as backup flash browser.
- BSB tweaks. I love the 'add program to auto rotation' function amongst others, bringing rotation to many more programs.
- DroppedBoxx. to send to and store cabs and other files between my PC and phone.
- BatClock, display battery, signal strength, time and much more in the top bar.

Isn't Remote Access a standard built-in app?
essential software

Since I`m listening to music a lot I consider SRS WOW HD absolutely essential. It improves the sound quality and is a must especially while using A2DP profile.

that's remote desktop. this little app allows you to make file transfer, registry changes etc over the wifi. no need for the cable.
